My daughter has moved to a farm in central Vermont, USA. She has 2 boys who have quickly become farm boys, immensely curious about the world in which they live. The would LOVE to watch and identity the birds on their farm. I adore how free you both are with your boys, allowing them to free range and learn about their world. My family, in particular my mom, have always enjoyed having birds in our garden! So much so that we have regular birds who have even figured out how to get my attention on my security cameras or by tripping my perimeter alarm when I’m a bit later to bringing their food out! Birds are absolute characters and have always appreciated seeing the personalities and habits of my garden birds! I would gift this to my mom, she is the queen of keeping her garden birds healthy and happy, offering them a wide variety of options! The need for their creative play area is very real. Their exploration area with the tree will be wonderful. Dad used to tell us that thunder was the dwarfs bowling in heaven.

As someone who loves birds (I know I can’t take part in the competition as Australia isn’t on the list) I love both the boxes you made and the concept of the bird feeders. In Australia anyone can help every October with the National Bird Count, by noting which birds and how many visit your garden in the space of ten minutes. The results are then shared with all that have helped out. 🥰

Lovely video, how adorable are Crusoe and Sawyer! Just one advice concerning birdboxes: Make them with a lid that you can open to clean them after the birds have flown out. You can do that with a piece of burning paper to kill all fleas and mites and other vermin and take out the old nest. I found a dead chick in mine, and you and the birds wouldn't want that to remain inside for a next breed.

I just loved the way Crusoe checked out the wood, whether it was straight or not. The little Handyman. Loved the birdboxes. Those modern boxes are amazing. I'm thankful for birds, they helped me during the 'Work from Home' period, as I have no street view from where I had to work, but just a tiny garden. I loved to see them play and grow. You are amazing people. Thank you for sharing.

This is so much fun watching you building the bird houses. In California where I lived, there was a pond and every year Wood ducks would come and raise their babies. I wanted to build some houses for them too. It is very similar to what you did except the door has to be a specific size. You can put cedar chips inside for their nest, and use some wire mesh for them to climb up to their hole. What you did, works also by roughing up the wood. Actually the ducks like a house up in the air to keep away the predators. Google it!

During COVID my husband and I spent all the beautiful days of spring, summer and fall outdoors watching the wonderful birds who came to our yard to eat and enjoy the various birdbaths. It was enchanting and we learned so much about the various species. Watching Jon and the boys build bird houses was such fun.

Oh my goodness, I have loved this episode. Such fun watching the boys. Looking back on Caruso playing in the mud puddles. Oh, I could hug them through the screen. awwww another lovely family video, it is so nice to see the boys get along so well, I love to see Crusoe chatting away and already has vision in his head of things he would like to make, it's great that you both are showing the boys true life skills, I love how the boys just go and pick themselves fruit and veg to eat, is there any thing they don't like? well done John on the bird boxes they are very good and strong, I love watching the birds in my garden this year a got a few new ones that have never been before, I changed my bird seed to sunflower hearts and in no time at all i had gold finches, green finches, chaffinches, every year i love watching the antics of the robins and blue tits they are my favourite, my husband made a bird box for me and put a small metal circle on the outside, he said that was to make sure the hole was only big enough for the blue tits to get in and out the sparrows and other birds would be to big to get through. I stand at my kitchen window or sit outside on the wooden bench my husband also made for hours watching them feed and build nests, I take photo's nearly every day, the blue tits have gone to the same box my husband made every year, the only thing is I would sit for hours watching the mother and father feed their chicks but never managed to see them fly away, but this yr I got photographs of the babies cheeping for the parents to feed them and then a few of them climbed out of the nest and onto the clematis tree, ohhh they were so cute and tiny I never moved all day watching them, I was scared a cat or a sparrow hawk or something would get them, I'm glad to say that 3 of the babies flew off sadly one was so tiny he didn't make it. but I felt blessed that I witnessed that this yr, My husband died suddenly 8 yrs ago and he would have loved to see the babies fly away. I am so glad he made me the garden bench and the bird box as it has brought me hours of happiness and a legacy of pleasure, and I know it is him making me smile when the Robins come to visit, it would be wonderful to watch them on a monitor so close, I wouldn't need to watch t.v when I could sit and watch all the antics of my little feathered friends. what a delight. ohh and getting back to telling Crusoe all about the rain, my mam would tell my Twin sister and I that when it was poring down it was God emptying his washer! hahaha and when it was thunder and lightning my dad would tell us it was the cowboys and indians fighting in the sky!!! hahahahaha, the things parents told their kids. any way Thank you all for another lovely video, and until next time, Love and Blessings. It is sooooo nice to see the little one already following his big brother! But now I can imagine you have to have eyes on your back, too! With Saywer getting mobile you sometimes need five hands and ten feet to be quick enough to prevent him from getting hurt! The cutest thing was... we are going to Joao, bye bye!🤣 So lovely! fabulous birdfeeders with ID function, but sadly out of this pensioners funds. Agree with Tara, the bamboo one looks very smart. My method of identifying birds, since my eyesight faded a bit, is to photograph them with a zoom lens, then Google the bird if I didn't know it already. Cumbersome, but still fun! This way I discovered that it was Dunnocks which came to the feeder, not Sparrows 😁 Greetings from Ireland!

Oh! Crusoe made me laugh! He's a mini-John. I believe that testing the wood by climbing on it is an essential part of preparing it to make a bird box. It looked like a laid back project, very restful and smiley to watch - especially as the boys led by Sawyer took off to do their own thing. The Birdfy feeders look amazing - I'm going to share that with a wildlife group I belong to, they've started wondering what would make a good Christmas present and already have the usual stuff. Yes, I'd like one - I'm putting it on my Christmas list anyway.

Wow! That bird feeder is amazing! As a homeschool mom what fun we would have to learn about all these different birds! Using this to learn and EXPLORE 😉 more about birds that we see would bring on a "hands on" eyes on experience that my kids will talk about forever! my heart would flutter with this! Would bring whole different meaning to bird watching!

I would absolutely love one of these feeders! I'm a big nature lover, from an early age it was something my parents instilled into my brother and I on a walk. They would get us a little nature book with images that we could tick off whenever we saw something on our walks. But bird watching is especially precious to me as it was something I shared with my paternal grandfather (that and animals in general, since he lived/worked on a farm, my first words upon arriving at his house was always "See cows! See cows!"). He built his own bird table and feeders which sat directly outside the dining room window. Whenever we had our breakfast, he would make sure the birds had theirs too (including the excess fat off our bacon sandwiches, and crusts of course) so that we could sit and watch them. I miss him daily, but my love of watching the birds and feeding them is still with me, and now my husband, James, gets to listen to me witter on about what birds we have in the garden! ❤

This year I have been working solely on my garden trying to make it more bird friendly and one of those would look great in the garden especially as I'm also trying to pass my love of birds over to my daughter. Seeing your boys, headed to the neighbors, reminds me of my girls. When I lived in the country, my neighbors adopted my daughters as their grandkids. My husband and I didn't have any family close by. They spoiled them. Luckily our neighborhood was like a small town/village. We all owned about an acre or two each, but the houses were close. No fields to go through.

Wow; you see, my husband stopped feeding the birds because he said the seed created such a mess. I just think he's be amazed by your birdfeeder!! He loves anything with feedback and I know there have been many times when a bird in our yard has escaped his finding out what it is. This vlog was adorable. It is so awesome that Joel and his mom and dad are like family. That is how I grew up. We lived away from our grandparents too, but we all adopted grandparents of our own. I agree with the saying that it takes a community to raise a child. Great job on the bird feeders. The birdfy looks very neat. I would love to have one, but the darn rats are a problem in our area. Love watching the boys help, I'm amazed you manage to get anything done. You are creating a wonderful future for them there. Those bird houses look amazing, though we are more likely to build something simple, it would be wonderful to one day have an intelligent one. The land here is dry and was abandoned for years, I'm hoping through permaculture to show how we can bring it back to life with the goal eventually of opening up an education centre. I'm looking forward to seeing the wildlife that creating a food forest in a desert region can attract. I hope you find another family with small children who can benefit from the gift you can give.

In my older years I have come to appreciate the variety of birds in my area. I’m alway trying to identify which ones they are, and this feeder would be so helpful! Love seeing your family work on the farm projects.

I would so enjoy one of the feeders as I have recently lost my best friend that I spent many hours watching the birds in her yard her feeders. She passed in May at 101. I currently only have a few bird baths at my house and I am sure they would enjoy snacks after splashing away! Watching them always makes me feel closer to my dear friend whom I miss terribly. What neat bird feeders. There are many times a bird will fly through or rest on a branch and I can't place what type of bird it is. This would be awesome for my husband and I as we are both senior citizens and don't ambulate well. I just had major back surgery about three weeks ago so am not able to get outside much due to the surgery.. It would be nice to have these feeders tell you what you have passing through the neighborhood. We will have to wait though as have too many medical bills at this time due to my surgery and back issues. Your videos are fun to watch as usual and the boys are really growing. What patience dad has with the boys! Amazing.
