I have so enjoyed the world of Doug, your videos are inspirational. I am glad that I had an opportunity to contribute. Looking forward to seeing your next project!
To put $1500ish into this $6k beauty is nothing, and especially with such a great result. Many thanks for all your videos on each of your mods mate, a lot of what I’ll be doing to mine will be based on what you and Doug have been through. Take care, all the very best on your next project and many thanks from us all.
I absolutely love what you’ve done to Doug, and what you’ve done WITH Doug. Your final walk around, coinciding with the last year of production of the 500’s...I don’t know man, it’s almost poetic. The end of an era. I’ll be following whatever comes next, every step of the way. Take care, ride safe 👍🏼
Wow, If I could hit that like button multiple times I would. Doug is looking great. What a fantastic job you have done and thank you so much for taking us along on the journey. Well done.
It's been great watching this build, Doug has come along way during this time. I like the exhaust wrap it breaks up the chrome, but chicken wrap is my fav 🐔 hahaha..... You should be proud Doug looks awesome m8. Until next time take care : )
A shout-out from Brazil! Thank you for the videos. I bought my Classic 500 about a month ago and your videos have been extremely helpful as I mod mine. I love what you've done to Doug. Almost makes me wish I'd bought the Chrome version instead of the Squadron Blue that I got. I look forward to watching videos of your new project and I hope it doesn't end up influencing me into buying another bike. Thank you!
Having followed all your vids, watched many of them more than once (and having done some of these mods myself based off your suggestion), I really thought this final vid would only summarize everything I thought I knew about Doug... and yet, still a couple very handy tricks and insights (should I have expected any less?) . All the best, mate. Seeing this wrap up felt like the heartbreaking final episode of a great TV show. Look forward to the next chapter.
Finally catching up with watching videos mate. Personally, I think you did a fantastic job with this bike mate. It’s a head turner for sure 👍. Be safe mate.
I bought a 350 classic a few months ago and knew I would have to put a bigger front sprocket than the stock 16T. I went 18T and it was way better gearing. Saw a 19T on ebay for AUD$34 and thought Id give it a go. Perfect now ..... comfortable at 90 to 100 now ..... but on hills I do have to change down ..... but even then its a sensible gear change now.
Thanks for all the vids you done with Doug, Badger followed suit with quite a few of the same mods :) Just this weekend I had a look at the rubber "snorkel" that sits at the back of the air filter box - it looked to me as the main restriction to air intake so I made a little mod to prevent it narrowing even more due to suction and make is a bit wider for air intake - big improvement on throttle response and pickup. I might go for the pedestrian slicer as well and as you know - I got the Carberry plate ready to mount at the next oil change.
@@iRidetas Today I got rid of the snorkel entirely - even better pickup. Unfortunately no camera handy today, but I got my GPS log to show I got Badger up to 141km/h! I'm not going to be in the habit of driving her that speed for sure, but it feels like something to boast about :)
@@iRidetas Yeah. Meant Armstrong shocks not filter dog! The carberry mod seems a good idea. Will have to watch your vid on this as didn't quite get what you meant by a "tube". Where did you get the pedestrian slasher from?
I was with you mate! Knew what you meant. The vibration reduction plate comes with a centring tube which doesnt really work. Its to make sure its aligned but found it aligned easily without it. 👍 pedestrian slasher from ebay!
Hi IRidetas congrats for the bike, the chrome one is my preferred. I've bought a Classic 500 2016 second hand. No ABS drum rear Brake. EURO3 with some modifications: Hitchcoks kit 535 cc, Oil cooler, free flow filter, Dynojet V5 and a custom exhaust, but aesthetically the bike hasn't changed much. Anyway RE is an easy bike that allows constant custom evolution and you gave me inspiration to do that. I subscribed your channel. Help growing the channels with RE contents. Keep on like that!
Thank! If you want, take a look to my RE Classic modified and restoration videos. If you like, please consider subscribing my channel ... Enjoy and ride safe!
Lovely job Taz!Enjoyed the whole journey!I won't comment on the wrap ?Each to their own as they say!Love the golds tar pipe and shocks! The video seems imply you're selling Doug?Hope I'm wrong mate.Great journeys around Tasmania. To us on the top of the planet, you've put Tasmania on the map mate and what a lovely place it is!
Hey Paul thanks so much. at this point no im keeping doug but long term who knows so many bikes out there!! Im not sure. I have a gaggle of bikes at any point so im never sure. Yes each to their own mate! Some people forgot that when commenting about the wrap 🤦♂️ Cheers looking forward to the next 😃👍
My Thanks IRideTas. I picked up my new 2018 Classic 500 in Blue (not the Airforce Blue military model) in October of 2019. I was able to get 500 Km’s to the 1st oil change before it was too cold to ride anymore. I may live on southern Canada but ice and snow are far from nice and safe to ride in. The bike spent all winter in my living room. With Covid, spring riding has been pretty light until recently. I have made a few mods but nothing like you have done with Doug yet. I am running about 75% of run-in and I am starting to try some hard run-in rides. Vibrations are a lot less than new but it still has a lot of shakes. I tell my friends it does not vibrate. It is from India
Sorry! My bike is from India. This is Canada. It is cold here. My bike just shivers a bit. I will miss your rides even with no other audio than just the engine sound in my long winter months. Ride on! Take care! I’m out.
I’ve taken a lot of inspiration with what you have done with Doug and done most of the same mods with my classic 500 in military green. Even used your videos as a step by step tutorial especially with the piggyback ecu! Just got to get the 19 tooth sprocket then I believe I will be done building my bike. Thank you iridetas for making excellent videos about Doug and looking forward to the next build!
I've enjoyed watching this build. While I don't agree with every change (de gustibus non est disputandum, as they say) I bought my 2020 Trials Replica based on the experience you documented, and I couldn't be happier with it. I intend to make a number of the changes you did, and I'm looking forward to a "Hitchcock Inside" video, with a 535, 570 or 612 performance mod. Thanks for the fun and the education!!
Well said, i love that saying and couldnt agree more and im sure stuff you do to your bikes isnt my cup of tea and thats great cause it yours 👍👍 Enjoy your trials my friend they are a great bike. 😃👍
@@iRidetas 19t coming soon!! The 17t on the Trials Replica feels like it would go up a tree, but lower revs at highway speeds might make things more comfortable.
iRidetas I’d be interested to hear how that goes. The forum chatter is that the most recent 500 engines have lower vibration out of the box, due to the new production line. Certainly the handlebars on mine would provide the same reduction in vibrations as the mods you made with the bracing bar. It’s winter in Oberon, and daytime temps above 10oC are getting rarer, but I’ll see how the bike runs in come August.
Watched your RE 500 video last year when I was planning to get one Sadly the 500s have been discontinued so I went with the interceptor 650. Have AEWs on her too. Greats sound quality and overall build quality. The AEW workshop is actually Just 9 Kms from my place
I love what you have done with this bike. Well done and thanks for sharing... So please do the Big Bore kit I really want to see how that goes and I think you want it... you know you want it... you gotta have it ... it's ok let your conscience be clear and be free,, 535 cc freer and show us how it goes ;-) Good luck with whatever you do
This has been a really great series and although I'm probably NOT now going to make this my next bike, because if even with all the mods you can only cruise at 110kph/68mph that is just not enough for U.K. Highways. However if I ever accrue enough money for two bikes it will be at the front of the queue. Another reasonable point is; this is how they should have come from the factory. Finally have you dyno'ed Doug as I'm guessing with the mods he now makes in the 30s for BHP?
Valid points, i love doug as a second bike, but if i had one bike only to do everything im not sure it would be an RE C5. But i do love it. I havent but i would guess at low 30 ish HP 😃
Could you perhaps do a short video showing how you wound the belts around the battery- and carb/fuel-injection cover? I really love the look of it and am currently uncertain how to properly attach the belts and am looking for inspiration. If a video is too much work, a picture or two via dm would be highly appreciated :-) Cheers mate!
Sorry mate you literally wrap them around, do them up! Here is another video with them in ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2VGwnUuQf7g.html
Thanks mate for all the wonderful ideas and i'm planning to do the same on my RE Thunderbird 500x 2018 model. Guessing there won't be a lot of change btw classic 500 and Thunderbird 500x right???
Great video. I'm not long into ownership of a 2021 500 classic, and this has taught me lots. Mine came standard with a 17t sprocket, so I swapped it for 18t, maybe will try 19t as I'm guessing my engine is no different to yours. Do you still have Dug ?
Gday - did you replace the handle bars ? I'm a shorter rider 169cm and want to get the higher scrambler bars for mine... would be great to have your feedback:) thanks for your videos...by the way Im in crazy Balmain / Sydney - would be great to be out and about in Tas !
I don't understand the negativity towards the plate. I installed it , i feel a little vibrations on the first two gears, but from third i simply feel no especially at the revs above 3.5k. At the same time used ngk sparkplugs, the bike has another level of pickup from 3rd gear 2.5 k RPM. i also changed oil to a semi synthetic one and the bike runs on butter. Looking to get a windshield today from carbon racing as above 80kmph the wind resistance fatigues the body too much. The only downside i feel about the bike is there is no power after 110-120kmph. The bike takes a lot of time to reach 135 . I have no idea what to do here.
With all the work my top speed is still 135. Just gets there quicker than the glacially slow stock bike. By product of high torque single. All the power down low and little top end. Could be worked on but talking some significant investment!
@iridetas hey, something strange has happened. Post ~300kms putting the vibration plate(with oil change and new spark plugs), all the vibrations returned back! Do you have any idea what might have happened? Its really unbelievable how smooth it was and now i feel vibrations at all reva.
@@iRidetas yeah i did, seems like the cone was not tight enough in the first place, the shaft must be wobbling. The loose fitting in the first place got loosen more over 300kms and failed the purpose of the plate. The representative was helpful, he will call my mechanic and help him fix it really tight without any movement on monday. Fingers crossed!
