I’m a couturier and I take around 180+ measurements of my clients. Everything is measured from the nipple width to the distance from wrist bone to finger joints etc. I take anywhere from months to years and everything is done by me by hand. I source the best not the cheapest and I run EVERYTHING by the client. Christine is a dream client.
@ireniaks
@ireniaks 14 дней назад
Are there any 'rules' or agreements regarding weight gain/loss and cost? If the client goes up/down a significant amount, will they pay extra for all the work, or do they sign some kind of contract? Lol, it sounds weird, but English isn't my first language, but I hope you understand what I mean.

Growing up in a few African countries, custom-made outfits were much cheaper than prêt-à-porter clothing. To this day, my siblings and I regularly send our measurements back home to get some outfits sent back in a few months.

Thanks for sharing that. I'd rather have custom made clothing over almost any high end label. (...not that I would know, lol) The most I ever spent on a piece was a long wool, winter coat. Trench style. That was almost 40 years ago and I _Still_ wear it. (paid $800 back then) I don't think the designer is around anymore.- Irving Samuel

I have been leaving comments on some videos telling people to get their clothes made or customized. No sense in wearing a designer if it doesn't fit. Lmao. I would rather have hand crafted, impeccably fit, flattering, unique, ornate, stunningly impactful pieces any day than a flipping designer label for waaaaay too much. Also would love a closet tour from an African. Bet it's amazing.

I have been through Fertility treatment for 5 years and it’s awful. So many memories are suppressed bc of the trauma, physical and emotional pain. But the moments when you find people who share stories of being supported and cared for are surprisingly healing. There may be tears but it’s like that experience can be yours too. It does not matter if it’s a couture dress or someone making you a cup of tea. It’s the moment when someone saw you in pain and let you know you were not alone in your suffering.

I saw a few people comment already, but getting custom-made outfits is still a norm in Southern India. Often when going to the shops they will show you fabric pieces for a certain type of outfit ( saree, chuthithar, skirt + blouse, etc) and then you take it to the seamstresses (they're everywhere) to be cut and stitched to your specific measurements. Admittedly, the skill and reliability of the seamstresses depend on how long they've been in the business. Still, shop recommendations come from our many family members and other close-knit members from the surrounding community so the shops always strive to do well.

Many wealthy people now ship their suitcases and trunks rather than having to deal with traveling with their own luggage...maybe that's why it was stuck in customs? Also lending anything to a Museum or for an traveling exhibition tends to add more monetary and/or cache to an item...whether it is a gorgeous gown, painting or vase.

My mom and I sew clothes together. And I agree there is nothing better than clothes that actually fit. Imagine the simplicity of your sleeves being long enough and your cuff fitting your wrist perfectly. Your clothes are always the right length. And you can add any embellishments that you want. You just have freedom and it's cheaper then buying because you have control of the fabric. There's some expensive clothes made out of cheap fabric. But imagine if you can get the same style with quality fabric that lasts. So from year to year your collection grows. You carefully make decisions so your wardrobe is timeless. People think you're spending a lot of money but you're actually spending less than they do. I'm about to do a linen wardrobe. Full of custom dye work an embroidery. Might even bring light reactive dyes to the mix and make shadow art.

Tailors and seamstress do exist outside of haute couture and yes people are not paying millions of dollars to have a garment tailored to fit them. What I love about haute couture are the beading and stone work details. Additional, when they play with unconventional materials and make it seem like fabric. Basic tailoring not so much.

Ivf is absolutely miserable. The hormone treatments are horrible for your mind. We got my miracle boy so it was worth it. If you do it, just prepare

Hi! Watching back your videos since I went to ICU with COVID ( what an era right) I usually have my clothes done by a local taylor here in Brazil and it's the closest I can get to couture, but I can't get enough compliments in how elegantly the clothes fits on me( and I try to bring some new design also) it's wonderful have clothes made to measure, a true beautiful way of dressing. BTW Greetings from Brazil 🇧🇷
