I personally like the weapon durability system in both BOTW and TOTK! The fact that the weapons break means I have to go out and find new ones and be resourceful, use the fuse mechanic, etc., because if they never broke I would only have one sword the entire game and I would never touch anything else lol

When it comes to some of the 5 points rating but with a very good written review, maybe the same happened to those reviewers that almost happened to me. I was doing the first time a review on Metacritic, and I was using my mobile phone. Due to the small window, you only see the ratings 0 to 5. So, at first I thought 5 is the highest rating and chose 5. I only later realized that I could scroll the screen to the side which showed me the ratings 6 to 10, and I could change my rating to 10. Maybe not everyone realized this and gave the game a rating of 5 thinking it is the highest one.

I feel like the weapon durability system is probably the main contentious thing for people about this game. In breath of the wild the problem would often be that you would waste 2 to 3 weapons on a single enemy to hopefully maybe get a decent weapon that they drop in return giving you a net loss of two weapons. With fuse allowing you to take a garbage tier weapon like a branch and turn it into a viable weapon with monster parts not only completely fixes this problem but actively incentivizes you to go fight more monsters to get more parts to fuse to more things.
@awfulpancakes
@awfulpancakes Год назад
@Falcon-um7vo Yeah, I feel like it was just more of a mindset thing. A lot of the time I felt more hesitant to go fight a monster camp or a boss because I knew I would probably end up losing some of my good weapons and wouldn't always get equally good weapons in return

Lifelong Zelda fan here. I actually agree with the negative reviews. I’m all for an open world Zelda game but they need to do it right. If they slapped a different title on the game then fair enough, but as a Zelda game, it’s not great. I appreciate the attempt to do something different but it falls flat. I bought BOTW and skipped TOTK - I refused to endorse it. I see videos of link flying through the air on what looks like a hover craft and flapping around these random contraptions in mid air and I’m like wtf is this. Why would I explore a map when all the chests are filled with breakable weapons. There’s nothing worth exploring for. If you’re doing open world, at least make it feel worth while and give me rare items that I can actually keep and feel like my exploration and completion of side quests actually meant something. Witcher 3 does this perfectly. You feel like you find items that other players may not have found - and something about that feels brilliant. I just hope they don’t copy and paste another BOTW and keep this shit going. I honestly feel like a lot of people are kidding themselves with this game - I seen a commenter who claimed to have played through it 5 times and I couldn’t help but think what was wrong with them.

I understand what you’re saying as a general gaming and Zelda fan. I loved BotW, it took 20 yrs for them to create something as compelling as Ocarina of Time to me. I actually wasn’t excited for Tears at first as I wanted to 100% complete BotW on Master Mode. Currently 40+ hrs in on Tears and it’s def something different despite its dna. There’s almost too much to do which is overwhelming + unlike Elden Ring where they hide a lot of the content, Zelda gives clues and stuff to where caves or ‘secret’ areas are (eg. bats fly into or out of caves). I actually like the weapon durability although I would like to make permanent/semi permanent weapons as well. It fixes how The Witcher locks weapons behind lvl but is not like Elden Ring where you have specific stats to wield (then progressively upgrade). Anyways I also hope they do something different for the next one but I also hope you give this one a whirl.

I want to last at least 2 lynel fights with the same weapon. >"will last multiple fights" If you're fighting against blue or red enemies, then yeah. But once you're fighting against White/Silver enemies, and you will eventually fight them at higher levels, you'd be lucky to lose only 2 weapons, let alone 1. I have all of the Legend of Zelda amiibos and they grant me fantastic weapons, but they don't last long. I wish I could keep using my White Sword of the Sky longer than 1 or 2 fights. The weapons breaking may be annoying. But just because they break, doesn’t mean you can’t get them back, and you will always encounter a new enemy later in the game. Defeating that enemy can give you better loot. For example, lynels, when you defeat a silver lynel, you get better horns that you can fuse to your items. Making it way better.

Old comment I know, but add to it the fact that you can repair damaged weapons via the octoroks on Death Mountain and I don't see why so many people bitch so much about weapon durability. The experimentation is fun, and at the beginning of the game it adds an element of risk and reward for fighting stronger monsters in order to get the stronger parts to make better weapons. That's fun to me. 🤷‍♀️

@@musicismylove92 The shrines and towers being in different places does nothing to change the gameplay loop of the original. You're still looking for towers and shrines, just like 6 years ago in BotW. There are like 2 "new" enemy bases and they're barely different from the old ones. The sky islands are extremely sparse, and the depths are literally just the overworld flipped upside down, and the only thing to do down there is collect zonite and bomb flowers. The argument about how the weapon durability incentivises variation… what variation? There’s only 3 types of attack animations for sword, spear and axe. Would a permanent melee weapon discourage the player from using the ultra hand abilities or ranged? Is that really the argument? The actual variation in melee combat is minimal and does not require such a system to enforce said lack of variation. As egoraptor once said. “It’s bad fucking design. You missed the entire point of the person that gave it a 5, saying that totk is very similar to botw and how they say the game was ready to be released years ago. Their point was that totk is too extremely similar to botw that it's basically too close to being the exact same game and with that being said, they just added more to the story, added a few new mechanics as well as a few new areas to explore so with all that in mind, they believe that totk could've been released some years sooner because the developers just tweaked the core of botk. It honestly sucks because i want to buy the game but as i look more into the game, i just start feeling like some of the reviewers are right and i know there will be people that ask how i can have a negative opinion on a game i haven't even played and honestly to answer that question, i dont need to play a game to have an opinion about it, that's why people can look up information and gameplays, which I've done to to tell you the truth, I've seen where you can explore, how part of the story is going, and how some side missions are but nothing actually looks new enough for this to be labeled as a new game, it honestly just is breath of the wild with a $70 dlc price tag

Botw weapon breaking bothered me a bit more than it does now. Probably because 1. I was less used to the weapon system then, and 2. Idk I just got attached to a lot of the weapons and didn’t want to lose them because then I’d be stuck with less powerful ones until I went out of my way to get another powerful weapon. But in TOTK, when my weapon breaks I can just pick up a sturdy wooden stick or something and attach a construct horn to it and it’s pretty much just as powerful as my other weapons. It’s honestly more convenient, and getting more construct horns isn’t all that difficult either.

I'm only about halfway through my second dungeon, but I'm well into 40+ hours of gameplay. After putting 100+ hours into multiple BotW saves each, it started to get old. I loved the exploration, story, and combat - but I hated that I knew where everything was and the grind to max my character out again. In the end I only ever had one save file (my main) with all shrines, dlc, and armor. Everything else was just too tedious. (Koroks.) The reason I'm so happy that TotK is a direct continuation of BotW and reuses so much stuff is because it feels like the same game, but *better* this time. It feels like I get to play my favorite game every for the first time once again. I don't know all the glitches, I don't know where everything is, I'm not maxed out but it doesn't feel annoying to go towards it. Exploring feels fresh and new, story is brand new and exciting, collecting stuff is more fun than before, the combat is MUCH improved, I could go on and on. I see so many people mad about how TotK "copied BotW" or how it "reused too much" and therefore shouldn't have taken so long. I hate seeing people bomb the game for being so similar to BotW, when I personally feel like it being so similar is the entire point of the game

I want to add a side note down here in my comments as well - I never played Zelda before I played BotW. I've always loved open world games, and I never wanted to get into Zelda because of how linear it was. The only game I liked linear (and still got tired of after a while) was the Soulsborne franchise, and Elden Ring sorta fixed that. However, I fell in love with Zelda games because it gave me the feel for the story, the lore of the games, and the interest in the older linear games, simply because it was so open world, so free. The fact that so many people hate on BotW and TotK because they "aren't classic Zelda games" seem to be missing the point - they aren't supposed to be. The first game was a journey into unknown territory, and the second game was a direct sequel. Why would you change the formula of the sequel from open world to linear?

As for the performance I mean it’s a switch game so considering just how much they packed into this it’s actually pretty insane that it even runs at all. People don’t talk enough about how this game rivals the size of games like witcher 3 and elden ring and it does it on hardware less powerful than most cell phones.

People who are mad at the weapons breaking i get the feeling are the kinds of people who just like to find the strongest weapon and never have to do anything different ever again. I kind of like the weapon breaking system. I'd have never have learnt how cool it is to use half the special stuff without it and it makes it worth getting better at fighting rather than just bulldozing things like many other games. Plus if you're even average at the game you'll always have a full inventory of powerful weapons from hour 5 or so onwards unless you never explore our fight anything. The more your fight, the more stuff you'll have for weapons and the stronger enemies with better weapons will show up more and more. But seriously, just go fight a few lynels in the arena. You'll have all the weapons you'll need in a few minutes. I think they could fix it for these people though. Have a weapon upgrade system but limit it to like 3 upgrades per weapon. Want a weapon that never breaks? Ok upgrade durability to max but you could have used those upgrades to increase damage instead. That way the people who just hate breakable weapons can go hit something 57 times with it and never worry about weapon durability ever again, while those of us like me will just boost power, be able to kill things way faster and when it breaks who cares, I used that one thing to kill 10 things in the time it took the other guy to kill 1 thing, and they each dropped more weapons anyway.

Plus they didnt add a lot of stuff +the enemy variety is still lacking seriously what were they doing in these 6 years ?! They only added like 12 new enemies (not including major bosses according to a reddit user). +chests are so lame they only give like ore no special objects like og zelda obviously +and the biggest flaw of them all is weapons that break which is also not logic how can a weapon break when you hit an enemy made of flesh ? I mean a sword when its used by bokoblins for example they never break but when its link they break there is no logic and dont try to counter this by saying its cool to change weapons because there are 4 kind of weapons "one hand swords" "two hand swords" "spears" and bows. There is no excuse. +aside from main bosses they didnt really add much like one new unique boss on the undergroud (frox) and one unique boss on sky (flux constructs) islands plus one on the ground (gleeoks) +and obviously the map on the underground being a copy paste of the overworld map this one shocked me. There are some things i liked on this game like some side adventures were cool (the rewards weren't) just doing the shores of other people sigh.... Anyways they could have reskinned this game with another character it would have worked this is not and will never be the zelda i know and love and this makes me wish they released that wii u demo they showed that day please stop being a fanboy now that this game sold so much they showed nintendo that people are idiots that are fine with copy pastes that are price tagged for 10 bucks more and of course they will redo this formula over and over again.

@@StripedBass-vq6vz please show me where I said I think those are the only games or that the people complaining are only paying point and shot games. Bc I didn’t. What I said is that people complaining probably pay $60 point and shoot games yet complain about TOTK being $70 which has a massive amount of content in a different storyline, new map areas, new enemies, new game mechanics, new quests, and a bunch of other new elements. The complaints that it is just BOTW DLC are just unwarranted because of the massive amount of content and gameplay they added and how many things have changed. If you play the actual game for a decent amount of time, you can actually see the work the devs put into it. A lot of people just want to hate on it bc it’s a Nintendo system and don’t think it compares to the PS5 or XBOX power wise, which it doesn’t but the devs optimized this game for the switch and from someone who hadn’t played a Zelda game in a long time I think BOTW was awesome and so far TOTK is even better. Also I don’t care as much about resolution and fps as much as I do about the game being good and playable and it’s both.

@@lisabethgaming ya, but why compare apples to oranges? TOTK should be compared to other open world rpgs, not first person shooters. Some people enjoy that genre and those games should be compared to other games in that genre. So your initial argument makes little sense. What does make sense is comparing TOTK to games like Elden Ring in terms of content. Elden Ring was $10 cheaper, had even more content, and blows TOTK out of the water in terms of performance. That’s where people like me are coming from when I say TOTK is overrated.
@lisabethgaming

@@StripedBass-vq6vz Have you played all of TOTK’s content to know that? I doubt it. But even if it isn’t as big as Elding Ring doesn’t make TOTK overrated. And I can easily get several hundred hours doing the main storyline, quests and some exploring Just bc it’s not as high powered as other systems, it does run just fine and has plenty of content to warrant the price. TOTK has a lot of love from players for a reason.

(Spoilers) Anyone who complains about weapon durability just has a fundamental misunderstanding of the game's combat design and I would hedge a bet that they also suck at the game or games in general if they can’t manage their resources. TOTK provides so many tools to make weapon durability an interesting factor in its resource management, so frankly anyone who complains at this point just isn’t capable of learning how to play the game. Regarding enemy variety, the game added way more than 6 standard enemies, not even counting the enemy variations which do change attacks and behaviours. But we have to consider how high quality these enemies are. For every 1 enemy in TOTK, is 10 in Elden Ring. They express complex interactions with one another and the player. They have hierarchies, they are aware of hazards and run from danger, they are able to pick and use any weapon, even use environmental components like rocks or barrels as weapons. There’s almost too much to list. As far as bosses are concerned, BOTW's bosses were truly great when you considered the depth of its combat mechanics, but TOTK simply adds more and improves on them drastically. King Gleeok, while primarily a bow centric fight, is extremely engaging with its attacks and the environment the player has to consider so that they can attack its heads. Having to swap between elemental materials for each head, while also avoiding attacks and managing your stamina during bullet time, is so fun. And then its final phase is crazy. This is just one particular example. As far as the content is concerned, anyone complaining that the open world is empty and that there is little to do in the new areas is delusional and dishonest. Sky islands contain traversal puzzles, shrine quests, dungeons and boss fights-while also aiding the player in exploration of the surface below. The depths are an inverted version of the surface and contain larger structures and areas of interest beneath those in the surface, and the expanses in between contain mini-boss fights, enemy camps, mini structures and collectables, quests, and much more. There’s literally no way around this, those "reviewers" are lying through their teeth for the sake of contrarianism and conspiracy. Dungeons incorporate the best aspects of classic, themed dungeons, with the sandbox puzzle solving and free form progression of shrines and divine beasts. Literally the best dungeon structure that a game like this could ask for. They have the unique themes, layouts, music and enemies/bosses of classic Zelda, while incorporating TOTK mechanics. The "key hunting and dungeon item" formula of classic Zelda simply wouldn’t work for a game like this.

Durability is a problem because it actively keeps me from playing the game the way I want to play it. Whenever I replay botw, I actively avoid as many fights as possible because I'm too worried about losing all my weapons. Like, I could go and fight that lynel, but I don't want to lose all my weapons in the process, so I just won't bother. Or, I could go take on that bokoblin camp and hope there are some elemental arrows in the chest or something but, they all have weaker weapons than what I have, so I'm not going to worry about it. Then, this results in me not having as many monster materials to upgrade my armors because I keep avoiding fights with enemies. This problem is extremely severe on monster mode where every enemy is a damage sponge so I legit cannot play monster mode because of the weapon durability issue.

Did people just forget that there was and still is a 3 year pandemic that shit down most of the world??? They must the these devs are either gods or slaves

People who complain "it's just an overpriced dlc" doesn't know what dlc actually is

I gave it a 1 out of 10 because it’s a copy/paste of the original with added stuff. A 10 out of 10 is an original game created from the ground up.

Nes games were 40 dollars in the 80s. That's over 120 today. So 70 dollars today is half the price of an a-list 80's game. This game is in contention for the best game I've ever played.... Though I'm only 30 hours in. I went in blind, and have been overwhelmed with the immensity. The underworld delights me, and though the overworld is "the same," I've never felt like I'm back in the botw world.
