Not just gluttony. I also see greed and vanity/pride with these restock and overconsumerism videos, too. Thank God deinfluencing videos like Shawna's exist. Needs to be more commonplace. Far more so than the latter, which is nothing short of toxic. Aesthetics can be nice, but it's not everything. It's crazy how much self-control people lack these days, and social media is only making it worse. It's so sad
Probably because they are still getting sponsored or wish to be sponsored by the big brands they are buying from and they need to show the packaging to make that happen.
How much money do they spend in containers, what is the point of taking out of one thing into another. Take your container to a refill place and save the packaging
i also think it’s funny how people see things like this as “minimalist” just because it’s in aesthetic and organized containers when these trends are the complete opposite of minimalism
@@KnivesTheLesbian Decluttering is also not necessarily minimalism because a lot of people declutter just to be able to add way more new stuff. I think I even saw a video about this from this channel. Also decluttering where you simply throw everything away is also wasteful. Reselling what you can and donating what is usable is important.
We’re currently in a climate crisis and one of the biggest social media trends right now is over consumerism and overselling plastic that no one needs.
Fr even in our day to day life it's been impossible to deny. In recent years the city I live in has been experiencing crazy weather like exceptionally warm summers or random rains and storms. And my hometowns been having a bunch of floods in recent years. The climate crisis isn't just scientific articles or news about disasters in other countries it's become a present issue in most people's day to day life and we're still choosing to do shein hauls and bathroom restocks on social media. I can't
More damage to environment now causes war, particularly war in Ukraine, because of the fuel used, rockets, as well as blown up dam. War could have been over already, but US and Nato didn't want to give old weapons so that Ukraine won fast. Now it continues and environmental damage as well
What a great way to continuously introduce your skin and digestive tract to a thousand different ingredients and never be able to narrow down which one you're allergic to.
@@ACSisterhoodyeah i ise tree hut and you literally cant use it everyday cause it will almost burn. its an exfoliating and these people messing up their skin
@@RatCakeParty Is it really? This makes it even more terrible plus the Dove scrubs she mentioned that's coconut flakes in them I would imagine that's not safe to use everyday either.
my sister got extreme skin irritation from using exfoliators everyday. she went to the dermatologist because her skin was really tender, red, and painful. when the doc found out she uses an exfoliator on both her face and body every day, well… you’re only supposed to exfoliate a couple times a week. 😭 if you’re burning through body scrubs that quick, you’re damaging your skin for sure, and that damage can be potentially permanent.
Also it really stresses me out to watch people remove any chemical from its original container. I always grew up being taught that you should never remove chemicals from the original package under any circumstance 😭😭😭
I'm basically the same but I like to have 1 backup of shampoo and soap because otherwise I'd probably run out mid shower and/or forget to buy some when it's empty and then have nothing the next time ^^" But that's a me problem.
I get great satisfaction of finishing something off. I also use bar soap and shampoo because they have no real packaging. In that bathroom mind goes to how would you keep that dry and mildew free.... I know it is ridiculous picture to paint rather than a film set.
I go so far as even though I can’t get anymore out of the nozzle, I twist open the cap and fill with a tiny bit of water. Shake it up, and there is still some extra soap. I don’t know why, but it’s always bothered me that there is still leftover soap there that I would be throwing out, but still is usable. Even though it’s a little bit. I want my bottles extra empty haha
another issue with the laundry stuff is taking them from opaque plastic containers and putting them into clear glass, a lot of the chemicals are reactive and exposing them to light and air ruins their effectiveness which is why they are in the containers they are in. not to mention if they have kids who see all the candy in glass jars seeing the scent boosters that look a lot like little candies in the same jars is dangerous

I used to buy tons of sale body products- and yes. The smell went off and they had to be trashed. It was really upsetting. I don't buy so many at a time anymore.
😂 yeah my very first thought was about a nurse showing off their scrubs collection. When I was a teen and worked in a nursing home, quite a few nurses would collect really cute printed scrubs.
I bought two Tree Hut scrubs for around $7 each recently; saw them at Ross and Burlington. There was another scent that I almost picked up, but then I said, “No, I need to use up what I have.” That was a big step for me, as a self-proclaimed shopaholic and someone who grew up with a scarcity mindset, as well.
happy for you! it gets easier every time you're able to pause, step back and rethink if you actually need or want the thing or if it's just an impulse buy
You can make your'e own sugar scrub with natural products if you want to save money. I do it all the time and I think it smells better than the ones in the store!❤
Well done! I've been trying more lately too to be better at that. I saw these super cute earrings at a store the other day (only $9.99!) but I was there to get bday stuff for my daughter so I left them there. That took so much for me.
The guest restocks are particularly interesting to me cuz like do people really have that many guests?? I have someone stay at my house maybe once a year 😂
I had the same question when I saw it. And usually if really someone is coming over, they bring everything with them and if they forget the shower gel or suncreen they would use the one I am using. I really don't see the point. Or maybe she has a lot of guests but just because the take all the good stuff from her guest bathroom home😅
Same 😂 maybe even once every 5 years and l know when they are coming so its not like l can’t throw a few travel sizes at them for a $1 from dollar tree 😂😂
I'll never forget how cluttered Brittany Murphy's bathroom was. Every single counter in her bathroom had a beauty product stacked on top of it. Including around the brim of the shower/tub, it honestly looked like so much anxiety. It kind of looks gross too, you can't tell me those surfaces get cleaned frequently.
It's interesting that the candy hoarder talks about a scarcity mindset because these restocks reek of desperation to me. Conspicuous consumption always puts me in mind of someone who pretends to have money but actually has debt.
recently the tree hut scrubs began being sold in my country for 15-20 dollars each and i was like DAMNNN you really expect me to spend this amount every few months when i can get rid of dead cells for free with my old, perfectly functional washcloth??
I honestly believe this restocking era came straight from the pandemic. The thought of not having what you need because of financial struggle is where I think this mindset plays off of. The fear of not having what you need when you need it. It's just a thought. I could not have a department store worth of items in my bathroom or house. Its just rediculous.
The wealth flexing on the scarcity mindset candy woman is also crazy. She talked about her housekeeper, landscaper and mobile detailer (assuming that’s for cars). Also I am sure her kids’ friend appreciate the candy, but it could also make them feel insecure in what their family has.
@shawnaripari Are you kidding me? You even ignored one comment saying : "If I had easier access to snacks then my sugar consumption/addiction wouldn't be so bad." We want a middle ground, not too much or too little. I agree the candy dispensers are wasteful and excessive but calling a working from home mother's pantry a "convenience store" is offensive. I agree she should tone it down a little but this sweet mother is offering snacks to everyone, not just her kids. Are you saying we aren't allowed to give gifts or be nice due to financial insecurity? This is a black mother who probably would kill for what she provides her kids now. You're just jealous of her. My rule of thumb when it comes to excess is this : Buy what you consistently use, not a year or a store's supply. When I used to be at rich friend's houses, they never shared snacks, they hog it all to themselves. This mother is not a common phenomenon yet and I'm offended you think a well rounded childhood is bad to have. The only thing I agree with is yes we shouldn't replace snacks with meals, but her video is supposed be short, not detailing all of her family's meals. You demand to see her family's privacy in the name of "proof" of her good parenting? People rub their financial success in people's faces, deal with it, we live in a classist society. I'm a white girl but at least I'm working and not whining online. EDIT: You do know not everyone falls for their traps. We literally follow some of their stores to buy a few of the less dumb products. I agree, the clear containers and candy dispensers are dumb, but I think most people can agree the Stanley Amazon Excess lifestyle is something most people don't agree with or find realistic. Yes, a lot of them do lie or edit to change the narrative, but that isn't new to the restock community. Many women now say they watch it ironically, they know it's fake but they watch it to scratch that OCD itch. The bathrooms looking like the skincare section at Walmart, yeah, that's bad.
@@quartzidot4202 nope, I didn't ignore that comment as I highlighted it and mentioned how many people agree with the original commenter's perspective. Nor did I ask for 'proof' of anything. I don't need to see her fridge or her meals or how she parents her kids because this video was exclusively about the pantry and sharing excess online. Her pantry is excessive and you can feel offended on her behalf that I think so. We seem to have a difference of opinion of what a 'well rounded' childhood entails. It's great you're able to identify selling tactics and the point of many of these video. And, if you're well aware and don't find this content interesting then I don't think my channel is for you. There are literally thousands of people out there (maybe millions who knows) who don't or get caught up in consumerism. These videos are in large part for those people.
@shawnaripari I do find your videos high quality, but I feel like your own bias can kinda seep into some of your points. All I'm asking is for you to understand from a perspective from generations of low income families. I agree that this shouldn't be entertainment and normalized, but it's kinda redundant to point out something and expect us to be responsible for it. It kinda reads a little as, "Your addictions are your fault and your problem." I'm just tired of financial insecurity holding parents back. I'm not asking to go to Disney World or have a perfect Pinterest party. That's mostly social media pressure for the parents, obviously. I just wish we could encourage sharing instead of focusing on spending. In my opinion, I'm saddened that restock culture got hijacked as much as you do. 1. Not everyone can afford a guest bathroom, but those who do, are flaunting their wealth so much. One bathroom drawer looked like the skincare store under that chick's bed. I believe this "mini micro cleaning products trend" is shrinkflation at its worst. If I had a guest bathroom, I'd do the bare necessities, or even ask the person staying if I can buy their favorite brands. 2. It is sad parents thinking they are OBLIGATED to do everything but they absolutely do not. Just because I'd do a Pinterest activity on a rainy day doesn't mean I expect parents to do it excessively or expensively. My fiancé said it best, "The balloon arch is for the parents, not the kids. Kids just wanna play with the balloons." Even my sister in laws fall for this trap, it sad how normalized this is because they do lie and edit. I agree with you that over consumerism is basically the bandaid on the already infected wound that is inflation. It is ridiculous how prices have doubled, tripled, even quadrupled the last 10-20 years. EDIT: I deleted this comment during a bad connection and had to resend it.
Yeah my dad drilled it into us you finish the one thing before you start a new one. Watching all those open jars I felt how I imagine a cat feels when it’s fur is stroked the wrong way! Ick!
I take forever to finish lotions. Mines can last over a year because I use oils too. I also have some thicker ones for the fall/winter and lighter ones for the spring/summer
That first tiktok is so wild to me... you don't need any, technically, but if you want a scrub just get one??? How do people just use multiple scrubs, AND buy new ones without finishing all of them??? I couldn't even keep two open at the same time tbh. And keeping all of them in her shower like that, doesn't she feel claustrophobic??? At that point you might as well be showering in a pantry
I think these influencers received these products from the brands for advertising purposes. They all get these "swag bags" all the time. They all seem to have store-like stocks of products, not the normal amounts consumers actually buy for using. For real, no one has 6 open containers of different strongly scented exfoliating body scrubs. Or 14 open tubes of mascara they choose between daily. Regular people, real paying customers, don't use those products that way.
She must have grated her skin to the bone with all those scrubs. I use one for 3-6 months. Also once you open them, they have an expiration date. Btw it cannot be good for any products to be splashed daily with soapy water... When she cleans her shower does she clean each jar individually? Mind boggling.
OMG. Where do I begin?? Between plastic pollution, overuse of resources, people who are food deficient, etc…what is wrong with us??? Where have we gone wrong when you need to have 53 body scrubs? My heart is breaking.
I honestly think that the scrub part is less harmful of all, as minimum she doesn't put them to the glass containers 😂 Other parts are so insane overconsuption and even dangerous.
a weird critique I have about the food restocks is with them swapping out the original packaging for the clear glass/plastic containers...Like don't you need the expiration dates?? And with the candy one, it almost comes across as them being ashamed to have some many brightly colored bags, so they have to "aestheticize" it to make it seem less childish. But of course, it all comes back to having one more product no one needs in the video to get linked in their storefront 😮💨
No expire date and often they refill with the old stuff sitting in the bottom (that's been there for nobody knows how long). And if you get people over with allergies, you don't know what you can serve. And with many products, the packaging is designed to keep the food fresh for longer. All that out the window for aesthetics in a place only the people in the household will come😅
I work at a coffee shop that has a lot of syrups, and when somebody mixes more than 4 flavourings together I call it: FlavourTM. It doesn’t taste like anything in particular because there’s so much. It’s just flavour. Like it’s all muddled together your tongue can’t even distinguish what it is anymore. That’s what that lady mixing scent beads felt like to me. That’s just ScentTM. It’s just smell. What does it smell like? Everything, also nothing.
The laundry ones are crazy to me. Here in Europe the pods have an obligated child lock, because those pods look tasty to toddlers and will dissolve in their mouths! Seeing people take these toxic things out of a safe container and putting them in an unsafe one is wild to me
I thought from the title at first this was about medical scrubs and as someone in nursing, I know a whole 52 pairs would be INSANE, but I was like “I always bring 2 pairs each shift and have a rotation of about 20! Blood and throw up happen!” 😂 but then I realized quickly its about sugar scrubs lol
My biggest pet peeve with all of these restock tik toks is when someone puts a product into one of the plastic organizers and all of the product doesn’t fit like girl you’re pouring half of that jug of iced coffee in that pitcher what are you doing with the rest? It’s just gonna sit next to your little aesthetic pitcher anyways! Why bother!!
exactly my friend I was going to reply about this as well. If everything they show would contain the whole quantity of product I can understand it a little bit more.. But when I see there is more coffee creamer or laundry soap in the original container it makes no sense. You have a beautiful looking laundry shelf or pleasing looking fridge but what do you do with the rest of the jug of laundry soap ? Also it is just a lot of work ahead of you with cleaning the containers. At some point the containers are going to have to be cleaned. It is so much easier in my life to be done with the coffee creamer and throw it in the trash after it is gone then to have something to clean afterwards. The laundry soaps especially. How gross does the container get sometimes when soap dribbles down the sides of it. Those beautiful jars are going to get gross after awhile and the pump one I see will eventually get clogged up.
Also the original containers are sterilised for hygiene. The plastic „aesthetic“ ones are not. Food items just won’t keep very long in them. What idiocy is this??? Not even talking about bpa and other solvents in the plastic containers 🙄🙄🙄
The candy restocking videos just remind me of when I was gifted 6 pounds of skittles in 8th grade because they were my favorite candy and like 12 people gave me big bags for my birthday. My mom got me a sealable container for my room because we had an ant problem, and then I spent 6 hours sorting the skittles because I always eat them by color and I wanted the green ones to be the last ones I ate…I still have like half of those skittles and it’s been years
My roommate came home while I was watching this with a big bag of M&Ms to refill our (one) clear plastic candy jar. I had some fun cosplaying a restock tiktoker.
Nice! I have a candy dish on my table. It is currently empty. I don’t currently have anything to “stock” it with except for some Cadbury mini eggs from Easter that I am not sharing!!!!
I used to always use scent beads and softener for my clothes, but I stopped because I learned that they could leave a film over them that'll ruin your clothes over time and make them more flammable. Scent beads in particular can also ruin your washer over time as well (I learned that lesson the hard way). Now I just use detergent, and if I want my clothes to be scented I just spray my perfume on them. You absolutely do not need all of this.
As a “normal” consumer I have the following issues with this type of content: I get she has a housekeeper but cleaning that shower would be a nightmare. For most of us we don’t have the time to pull it all out, clean the shower, wipe down all the containers and bottles because they have been sitting wet and soapy so they are slimy, and put them all back. Her housekeeper probably hates her Even if I had money for this I could not do it. Those who are aspiring to this level of hoard are in some ways pinning their future happiness in have a certain lifestyle and appearance and we know that is not the case. Have a stocked candy cupboard will not make all your problems disappear or make you truly happy. This is a type of hoarding. When we see the shows about houses that are stuffed to the gills and filthy and mouse infested we tend to judge the people and sometimes feel smug that we are not in their position. Aesthetic restocking is not different, it’s just prettier. Having so much excess in your house packaged in clear acrylic (plastic) containers is still hoarding. This horrifies me on so many levels.
She doesn't want to clean her own surfaces, which is why she pays someone else to do it, lol. Most able-bodied people clean our own homes and therefore keep their clutter to a minimum.
Martha Stewarts daughter called her a hoarder. She is a very clean hoarder, but still a hoarder. Hoarding isn't about cleanliness. It's about having way more stuff that you can use and buying and buying and buying to the point of gluttony.
I never looked at it this way but you are absolutely right, this is a form of hoarding. Maybe also a way to live out compulsive spending but packaging it neatly for content. The only difference is that since it's organized neatly, nobody dares to call it that. I figured this out about myself as well, I have hoarding tendencies and big problems parting with things. I'm very good at organizing but at some point recently I figured out that just because it's neatly stashed away it doesn't mean it's not simply too much.
I was thinking of this same thing a few days ago. We look at the stuffed houses in a judgmental way thinking "this sad poor person" but we forget we're exactly like them. And one day all that garbage will catch up. It's very horrifying to me as well. I can't imagine that emptiness, to not even realise what you're doing wrong and to keep buying. Gosh
As someone who is struggling to transition to minimalism, your channel has become such a voice of reason. I have severe anxiety and my mind is constantly going. Having too much of anything feels comforting but it’s also overwhelming. Earned a new sub and thanks for being you. ❤
"Promoting overconsumption in a time when we are in a climate emergency is irresponsible" Well said. I feel like people are much too eager to say "it's fine I am not doing anything on such a small scale"
The lady bragging about the snacks she has for her family is also gloating about having the money so people who do work at her house and even delivery people can have her snacks! Plus the gloating and trying to sell the amazon products she bought to make money by making people fools.
The thing is, that her life is probably very different. I have a friend, who is pretty wealthy and he has a candy cabinet like this. Why? Because his place is where everyone hangs out all the time, which he and his family greatly enjoy. They have people over every day sometimes 50+ and all their kids school friends hang out there in the summer sometimes 20+ kids. With that amount of people that candy actually gets eaten in an reasonable amount of time. The idea that I have fridges stocked with drinks and snacks for a hoard of people that spent time at my house is ridiculous but if it makes someone happy who am I to judge. The problem is her putting it out in the world like it is a normal thing.
I totally agree with you that once people make their financial decisions public and use them to influence other people in a way that could hurt them, then they are fully opening the door to hear people's thoughts on what they're doing. They're making it other people's business. I feel it's even more important to speak honestly about all this when a creator uses affiliate links to make money off of the people they influence to buy random shit they don't need. I think that most people who watch TikTok videos intended to get people to buy things are young, some even are children. They are growing up with all of this being normalized by these creators. It's problematic and I'm really glad you and some others are speaking about it. PS: Note how the lady with the insanely overstocked waste of money of a shower has the username "Selfcarebeautyyy". This is NOT self care...in fact it's the opposite. I'm so sick of how people use that word in such a manipulative way.
If you put your life on the internet expect people to comment. If you invite us in your house and show us your cupboards people r going to have things to say! Your right about self care, a bath can b self care, 5 mins peace can be self care. Spending money you don’t have on products is arguably self abuse!
Regarding the scarcity mindset, I grew up very poor and when I was older I got into some money, working hard. With this wealth I was never taught to budget and I was over consuming everything and it would be considered hoarding. I see that as a scarcity mindset, buying things, hoarding it in a dragons den because you never know when the money will run out. Less is more friends
Right?? I'm doing my best to use up shampoo & conditioner before I impulse buy a different brand - or if my scalp decides NOPE we suddenly can't use this brand anymore halfway through a bottle. Also, how in the hell does someone take a shower with all of that stuff stacked on the wall without constantly knocking it over?! Or am I just that clumsy??
Paisley my family and I are also doing a use up challenge. It’s great to find bottles being empty. It really shows you what you actually use vs what you want. It’s very enlightening. Good luck on your journey.
💜 The laundry restock bothers me on a few fronts: One, she’s taking products out of perfectly functioning packaging and putting them in GLASS containers on a high shelf without a guardrail. Two, that’s quite the heavy load on that shelf. It looks sturdy and reinforced, but I would still opt not to put so many heavy glass containers on that thing. Three, I’m 💯 with you on all of the scents! The detergent is scented, the laundry booster is scented, the fabric softener is scented, the dryer sheets are scented, and on top of that, she’s adding scent boosters? Why?? What does her laundry even smell like after all that? Finally, I can tell you what her laundry smells like: a headache! And I’m not here to fragrance shame; I actually enjoy perfume. But that much fragrance in her laundry all the time means she’s probably anosmic to the scent of it all. Laundry detergent uses very strong, musky, white floral essential oils to perfume their products, because the scent has to survive being washed and dried. That’s so limiting on what you’ll smell like every day!
Not to mention the waste of product that needs to be washed out of those containers because it got gummy. I add water to my original bottles when I can’t pour anymore and shake to get every last drop I paid for. I can’t imagine trying to do that with a big glass jar. This whole restock just bugged me because it was beyond excessive. Long reply condensed: I agree with you 100%.
@@foolishlyfoolhardy6004 Absolutely agree with you! I use a cup of white vinegar in the rinse cycle in lieu of any softeners, and I don’t use dryer sheets. Honestly, I just don’t want fragrance in my laundry, but I also hate the way my laundry feels with softener.
@@Melancholygreen I actually thought that her big jar of toxic green laundry detergent was one of the least aesthetically pleasing things I’ve seen in any of these restocks. You’re right; it’s going to just get gunky and worse as it gets used, and it’s all on display in that clear jar.
well duh, you can tell by looking at her that she likely doesn't eat fast food often, so what is the issue with having it as a rare treat? whereas seeing an obese person do the same thing would indicate they often eat poorly and are treating their bodies badly. there's always someone saying this like it's some gotcha, as if we don't all consider infrequent drug use to be more acceptable than out of control addiction...

It’s not even the overconsumption in the first video that gets me like yes that’s a problem but how does it not build up mold, just slimy feeling in general with them stacks so tight together 🤮
That laundry restock stressed me out so freaking badly. I use Tide & wool balls in my dryer & that's it. Plus I keep my laundry stuff in a cupboard above my machines. I'd drop those glass containers so often.
IMO, it’s the aesthetic that you can make your house a store that is the crux of it all. It also is the envy that we could have that kind of product security in our homes. I work with children and adolescents, and there have been cases where those that watch a lot of this content have become stressed about becoming an adult since these homes do not resemble the ones they grew up in, and they think they have to have this exact setup in their whole house.
Hey friend! Quick comment about the girl who apparently works at a dermatology clinic and restocks all the tiny LRP products. Those are samples, not minis, there is very little product in each box, usually enough for one or two applications. The companies and their reps will give boxes of them to dermatology clinics so that the staff can give them to the patients. Sure, staff usually take a few home but I find it very odd that she’s taking so many home. For one, I guarantee those products aren’t expired - a couple of those ranges have only been sold for the last year. Additionally, instead of her taking so many home they could donate them to a shelter/organistion. Again, nothing wrong with taking a few things home here and there but to stock your entire bathroom with loads of samples is odd. So wasteful, impractical and just goofy. Why would anyone want that many samples?! Who has that many guests that require so many different products?!
This content is so weirdly American and only portraits poor peoples idea of luxury. It’s so strange to think that someone might be impressed by a pantry full of sweets or processed food. When you look at some celebrities accounts you find them preparing healthy food/drinks, homemade food, basically exact opposite. It’s like reverse Gwyneth Paltrow but both are equally disturbing 😅
On the topic of all this candy and shower product hoarding, as someone who was 9 when people/my family were sort of "prepping" for the " Y2K bug apocalypse " my family taught me to never overshare or tell the entire neighborhood how much canned food or non perishable snacks or supplies we had in the pantry shelving in our basementz in case of robbers or jealous neighbors breaking into our house during a SHTF scenario. The fact that people are voluntarily flaunting all the multiples of anything they own and hoard in their bathroom or kitchen on social media as a form of entertainment,........baffles me because i was legit taught that it would be a dangerous and stupid thing to DO!! Especially if people figure out where you live! You don't have to even have the stuff in your house, for it to be dangerous. People just have to *believe that you have all that stuff in your house.*

The comments that you made regarding the laundry TikTok and how many different scents there would be is one thing that came to my mind whilst watching. If u used that many scented products to wash my clothes I would have a continuous headache. Less is more!
I used to buy a new body wash every time I went to Walmart 🤦🏾♀️. I’ve stopped for about 6 months after trying to get out of crippling debt from overconsumption and I’ve yet to run out based on how much supply I had. These products are not cheap. And of course they’re also wasteful
Why don't they popularize getting to the end of a product? I always feel bad not using a product to the very end. So I gave myself the rule that I don't open a container until I use whatever is already open. It changed how I shop. Saves me money and is less wasteful. I don't have a useless full shelf of products I don't use (but feel too guilty to just throw away) anymore. I just got to the end of an eyeliner, the victory I feel when that happens is the video I want 😂
Ooooo I like "waste baiting" thats a good one. I have like a couple extra toothbrushes and soap for guests, these guest bathroom restocks are wild. I can recommend Blueland to anyone that wants their cleaning stuff to be all neat and pretty. Not sponsored or nothing. I've been using their products for a hot minute and they do their job. Plus they are nice neat containers, carbon neutral shipping, ethical sourcing and production, compostable packaging, and significantly less water waste. I also have sensitive skin and I've never had an issue with their laundry soap. The one thing I can't personally vouch for is the body washes, haven't tried those yet.
the laundry stuff is giving me a headache thru the screen ffs. also not to be One Of Those People, but all the fucking chemicals that are not biodegradable but completely synthetic are polluting the water that you use to do your laundry. imagine ALL of those chemicals being put into one batch of laundry, the water waste and amount of shit in the water- i'm crying. using biodegradable laundry detergent is so much better for the environment.
Yes, that was the worst one for me. So gross. I hate scents with laundry and why put them in another container when it's in a container?! Plus, 1/2 the things didn't fit in her 'new' containers so you're still storing those bottles anyway! Ugh!

The first one, I wonder a few things: a) when did she get addicted to scrubs, b) how does she clean? C) putting used product on top of new product makes no sense if there’s an expiry date. So how fast does she go through these? “Verges on wastefulness” is very cute. I bought one scrub when I was pregnant because I needed something nice for myself. It was eco and I didn’t buy another after, and I still felt weird for doing that because its unnecessary and wasteful. What she’s doing is *wild*.
I’ve noticed that restock creators can also rage bait with condescending tones. I think it’s is the same creator who had a nasty tone in a video calling her out for using unnecessary wasteful devices. They know a nasty tone will get people to clap back in the comments.
😢 and here I am refilling the same tree hut jar with homemade scrub (it smells like a drought shop) 😅 I also kinda feel like people who want this type of home don’t have creative outlets, not skill or talent but the creativity coming up with ideas, playing, besides organizing their house likes it’s a mini store instead of idk painting, dancing, reading. I feel like these people would love cross stitch.
The one lady is also implying that not having the finances for a grocery store's worth of snacks in your pantry will negatively affect your kids' happiness and self control in the future. Like saying, Well my kids don't need to go through the pain of learning self control if they never need anything they don't already have. Oof, those kids are gonna be brats their whole lives once they hear "no" for the first time.
I feel like she is using scarcity mindset in an absolutely wrong way. It's become such a thing that people online abuse words from therapy and psychological science to excuse why they do what they do instead of taking accountability, and everyone who is criticizing is either 'an abuser' or 'gaslighting'. There IS a traumatic condition that sets in when you are seriously deprived of important ressources through poverty, war, serious abuse ect. and it WILL make you struggle with overconsumption later in life, but that's not when you can't have massive amounts of snacks the second you want them.
Your videos have really helped me look at my purchase habits. I love being de-influenced but there isn't a lot of content out there to combat the overconsumption. Your videos are like a dose of critical thinking and realism!
I finally broke my habit of having one open and having a spate. We grew up without regular access to a store so we had to have enough until we could get more. Now I live 10 minutes from 300 stores, I can pick up when it gets low.
I love that people are having these conversations. Thank you for being strong enough to make these videos and face the heat! My budgeting and debt paydown journey has naturally led to me being more conscious about what I'm buying and *why,* and has also led to me asking myself if I actually need it or not. Now that I live a much simpler life with less things, I cannot imagine having so much stuff (aka money spent) around me for things I forget about, don't use, won't use before expiration, etc. Life's about balance, sure, but the trend of overconsumption is so far away from balance in any way, shape, or form. The first girl could take those 50 body scrubs and give them to women's shelters or something, but no, they'll just sit there and become unusable or stale over time because there is no way to get through them all. Restocking leads to pileup which leads to waste. Lots of it. Sad times.
⚰️ I buy multiple scrubs or soaps in the same trip, but these typically turn into "use this up before my next big trip". Buy 4 in the same trip, use them all, make next trip when youre near the end of jar #4. Keeping a shower stocked up as if it's a production line is absolutely insane! Keep your extra stuff in a closet if you have extras, but this is just nutty.
Kudos for the chipped mug! I used to throw mugs away with a little chip in them and then I stopped one day and thought...it's still a mug! I can still use it! 💚
This channel started showing up more and more in my RU-vid feed, and I love it. It’s like watching TikTok with a friend and hyper analyzing everything wrong with the videos 😭 I love it
as someone with a mild-moderate hoarding problem (especially food hoarding-- experiencing food insecurity as a child and a severe eating disorder for 8 years) this is so sad to watch! im sure some of these people struggle with hoarding problems, and others are triggering people into developing them. i am so excited to someday have a neater house!
Washing your clothes doesn’t need more than soap and air drying. You’ll be surprised how typical detergents have ingredients that are not actually cleaning your clothes. Softener is also bad for the environment and your skin.
I love all of the points you have made in this video from beginning to the end. The problem with scarcity mindset is that it's the people running out buying everything in sight are the ones with scarcity mindset. For example, the one with more body scrubs in the shower than CVS has on the shelves...whoa Nelly! She must be afraid there's going to be a withholding of body scrubs for the next two centuries. The ones with the candy are just absolutely ridiculous.
Pro tip, half a cap of scent beads into an empty febreeze bottle fill with hot water. Boom, cheap febreeze. Thats my only justification for buying them.
STOOOOOP refilling your CLEANING PRODUCTS!! the packaging has important information on it!! 1) dosage 2)how to use 3)what not to mix it with 4)ingredients 5)in case of ingestion /contact with eye 6)ingredient list for medics in emergencies (eg your kids ingest it)
I used to buy the scrubs all the time when I was like 16, but then I realized two things: the product isn't worth 7-8 dollars, and it's EXTREMELY bad for the environment. So here's an easy recipe I use now (I put it into an empty sauce or jam jar) -Base: sugar/brown sugar/coffee grounds/pink salt -Oil: olive oil or coconut oil -texture: body wash or honey. That's it. If you want a scent, add essential oil. If you want to be extra and make it a color, use food coloring.
I agree with everything but the food coloring, as that can stain! there are soap safe colorants that can be added, though, if someone really wants a certain color 😊
I still use the scubbing cloth I bought in 2005 for €0,50. Just put it in the washing machine after showering and it's good as new. Also you shouldn't scrub more that 1x a week.
i’m so glad i’m getting these videos recommended. for the longest time i thought i was poor/low class just because me and my mom’s house wouldn’t look like the ones showed in the videos. it makes me sad that my mom would feel bad that i thought that. these videos are so unhealthy, i’m so happy i know now this isn’t normal or right. thank you for bringing light into this subject!!!
I use your videos as Influencer “palate cleansers”. No matter how hard I try the algorithm still incentivizes consumption content, so if I find myself thinking “oh that looks nice maybe I should see how much it costs”, then I pop on your videos. Almost instantly I realize I don’t need the thing, my Fantasy Self just got influenced.
I literally felt like I was in a never ending story while watching these. They just kept putting more and more and more. It makes my stomach hurt. There’s children literally dying from hunger and these people have a grocery store in their house.
Dang that first tik tok with the body scrubs took me out! I love nice smelling things and I kind of collect shower gels but I feel absolutely insane with like 6 in my showers. 55 tubs of body scrubs would keep me up at night.
I like to use my handy yellow scrubby glove for body exfoliation. You can rotate the soap in you hand like a washrag and you can easily reach around, It also dries pretty fast, although I do have to take if off to reach my back IoI.
I do think the scarcity mindset is real. I grew up in extreme poverty. If we had a sweet, it was something we got from a day old products program where store donated goods. If we got chips it was one single mini bag to share because someone donated them to the foodbank. So, when I had my own money after college I over spent. I overpurchased foods, I overpurchased dinners out, I overpurchased clothing, I got into a little puddle of debt that I had to pay off. I had the mindset that if I didn't get/do it RIGHT NOW then I would NEVER get to because something bad always happened growing up anytime we got ahead and we then ended up having to go without.
I don't know who needs to hear this, but your home doesn't need to look like a store, much less a dermatologist's office. Look at old photos and tv shows from the 80s and 90s, homes looked like they were for living in! Yellowed, dog-eared books, ragged plushies, furniture with a few scratches, old worn sweaters. Not this cold, impersonal clinical look full of packages and clear plastic bins. Second thought: It irritates me to no end that the glass jars aesthetic came from the Zero Waste Movement. The idea is to get them refilled at a bulk place (Bulk Barn in Canada, i know there are others in other countries too). Those 30 mini packs of candy being emptied into a glass jar. WHY. Not to mention there is no need for that amount of candy in one's house.
Watching these videos has made me so much more aware of what I’m seeing when I scroll. I play a game now where if I see a video like any of these, I try to count how many items I think are for sale on their Amazon storefront. Usually, it’s most to all of them. It gets very exhausting to consume restock content. 💜
These are so extreme it’s just hoarding in an ✨aesthetic✨ way. How would you need so much stuff that you can’t see your shower walls? I feel like so much stuff always gets thrown away because it’s expired or goes bad and is never used.
How are people going through these scrubs so fast?! I use a scrub once, MAYBE twice a week. A bottle of tree hut lasts me like a month. My skin could not handle anymore than that.
