Dean, yes, that was the official introduction of Angelina to the world. In regards to what you said about Angelina not realizing she is blowing everyone away, a woman came up to Angelina and told her she was wonderful and she made her cry. Angelina apologized but the woman was quick to tell her she didn't have to apologize. That was probably the moment she got an inkling of what was going to happen when she began to sing to large gatherings of people. Btw, would she be nervous in front of masses of people? Was she nervous on Norway's Got Talent at 7 years old? No. How come? Because she sings FOR US. She wants us to enjoy her singing and be happy and feel the love in her heart, her soul. Personal gratification? That's a tough one to judge but I will say it definitely comes in second to her main objective of making all of us happy and to be the best we can be as human beings. Like, when she gave her shoes away at 6 years old, are these thoughts normal for such a young person, a kid? Of course not. But Angelina is not normal in the most beautiful way imaginable.

Her wonky teeth at this stage are priceless! She was at the age (7) where the milk teeth have departed and, in her case, her adult teeth seem to have been unable to agree just WHEN to appear. At 8 her front teeth are more or less on the same schedule and by 9 everything is lined up properly. The first time I heard this (only my 2nd time hearing her after her AGT audition), I'd never heard anything by Amy Winehouse, but I WAS more familiar with Billie Holiday, so that's who came to mind when I closed my eyes. I actually opened them to make sure that "Lady Day" was not standing on that stage! Amazing performance by a child, for sure!

This is one that (maybe even more than "I put a spell on you") makes it instantly apparent that this is a special person we are hearing. Her ability to make all these subtle bends and twists of the notes is just incredible. ...and just as incredible was that she was able to hear all these little details in Billie's version of the song. When you play Angelina's and Billie's version on top of each other, they are nearly identical except for a few places where Angelina puts her own signatures on it. Her musical ears are just as good as her musical voice. She hears things that most of us probably miss. also, I like to share this quote from Angelina for some added context on this song.... "The reason I chose this song is completely random. I love jazz, but "Gloomy Sunday" was random. It was a night I could not sleep and my mother was stressed that I was awake long after midnight. Then I borrowed my mom's iPad where I wanted to listen to jazz on RU-vid before I fell asleep. Then came a picture of a beautiful lady screaming at the sky and with her eyes closed... Actually Dean, hearing Billy Holiday here. Watch the rendition from Billy and you shall see what we mean. Billy Holiday is a huge influence in Angelina's Jazz expertise and it comes through on many of her songs. Angelina can absolutely change her vocals to suit an Amy song and has done so on many occasions with covers of "Valerie", "Rehab", "Back to Black" to name a few, Angelina has the vocal ability to take on the character of the artists she chooses to do but absolutely has her own style and voice that is highly recognizable by her fans. You are hardly the first to make the Amy Winehouse connection though, many have said that and Angelina is a big fan of Amy too, another influence. I'm 67, and until I started following Angelina Jordan, I had never heard an Amy Winehouse song or Adele or so many others that she covers. After going and checking out the originals, I can honestly say that I prefer Angelina's versions over those originals. I feel that she just flat out sang them better, or the feeling and emotion that she injected in to the songs made them so much more enjoyable to me.
Regardless of her age, Angelina is amazing! I am full of admiration for this young girl with her outstanding voice, her completely unique choice of music and her passion for what she does! She will always be known for her 'vocal chameleon' ability to sound so very much like Billie Holiday in this song. It truly repeats itself when she was 8 and performed Dinah Washingrton's famous rendition of 'What A Difference A Day Makes', for she sounds exactly like Dinah. You can see her ability to turn that switch 'on' while performing modern day 'pop like' songs by Leslie Gore (You Don't Own Me), Gloria Gaynor (I Will Survive), and even Valerie in a style that, again, sounds so much like the version made by Amy Winehouse. Her natural style of singing ballads, especially of the heartfelt type, will bring forth the 'breathy', 'whisper-like' releases she learned from Billie Holiday, as well as the 'slurring' of words for added effect that Amy Winehouse would do. Amy's style of changing 'key' in mid-sentence is also a part of Angelina today. Two of Adele's most recent ballads, 'All I Ask' and 'Easy On Me' will have the listener believe that in parts of them, Adele's vocals are what you hear. Her intricate ability to do these complex functions are something I've never heard another singer do. She is, without a doubt, the most versatile singer of excellence to ever have appeared on this planet.

She is inspired by many legends including Am. In this specific song she is singing it like Billie Holiday. If you listen to Billie’s original you will notice how close she approaches that legend. She needs very little time to enter the performance state of mind, step out of it and step in again: almost like the flick of a switch. Watching this performance is such a pure joy :-) There is a version with a little interview and some discussion afterwards with English subtitles which is fun to watch as well. The jury’s reaction is just great!

Another thing, when I react to a video, the more footage I use, the more chance I have that the video will be blocked by the copyright owner, so the shorter the better. The most important thing is the performance, as that's all that really matters.
