This is Austin Brown. He is one of a kind. He studied Musical Theater in college and worked really hard to lose his Georgia accent. He is actually the only member of Home Free who is from Georgia. Tim (the bass) is from Texas, Chance (the baritone) is from Alabama and Rob (the other tenor) and Adam (the beatboxer) are from Minnesota. Austin can sing any genre with or without his accent. When you react to Delta Dawn, you'll see he really puts it on. He has his own channel. There is some amazing music on there, but since you talked about Musical Theater, I would recommend his version of Bring Him Home. In that performance, he brings his own style to it, but he is in character as Jean Valjean, not Austin Brown. Check it out and welcome to the Home Free rabbit hole.

Mayze, this is the second Home Free reaction I've seen you do. I'll be honest, I almost didn't come back. However, with this video, I think you did a great job of pulling back and realizing that less than can sometimes be more. I appreciated your musical insights and I learned some new things. Nice rebound, young man!

Austin has a degree in musical theater. He really knows how to make you FEEL a song. He and the other tenor, Rob Lundquist, have a duet on Austin's solo channel (Austin Brown) of Nessu Dorma. SInce you mentioned you are classically trained, I think you would love that one. Rob is also clasically trained and could have had a career in opera if he had continued down that road.

One thing to keep in mind is that you can't please everyone. No matter what you do, someone will find something to dislike. So, best thing is to just do you! That said, I had a little giggle watching this and remembering one of your first HF reactions when you speculated this might be the bass ;)

Austin did a fabulous job of this classic song. Loved Percy Sledge's version, but this was taken to another level. I think it is also better than Michael Bolton's version. And remember this was done during quarantine, so the guys weren't even together. The backing harmonies are great, along with Tim's bass. And Adam's vocal percussion is outstanding. Drummers have often commented on just how realistic his sound is. This is why these guys are my favorite a cappella group.

Do keep in mind that the vocals are recorded separately from the video. They *do* sing while they're recording the videos, but that's not the audio they use in the videos, that way they don't have to worry about wind, rain, cars, noises from the recording crew, etc. I think they usually record their vocals standing up, but they do perform some of their songs sitting down in concert and don't seem to have a problem with it (Tim refers to sitting as one of their favorite things).

I, too, was brought up in the wonderful, but biased, world of classical training, So glad you are no longer comparing apples and oranges. I enjoyed this reaction -- by listening more, you got the soul of the work, not just the technique. The heart often knows best. Home Free is largely responsible for broadening my perceptions of greatness, and is my favorite of the a cappella groups.

I enjoyed this reaction much more, thanks. Austin has a degree in musical theater with classical music training as well. He has solo work on his own channel that explores different genres. His Bring Him Home, Unchained Melody, or Georgia On My Mind are outstanding too.

I've always loved the late Percy Sledge's 1966 original (not so much Michael Bolton's cover - I thought it rather over-wrought). Austin killed it. The harmonies and Adam's perfect beatboxing were fabulous. Austin was actually looking at his lady (who was off camera). His degree is in Musical Theater. When he was a kid, he'd sometimes travel & sing with his father's gospel quartet in Georgia (the other 2 southerners are from Texas & Alabama).

You were surprised he was singing this sitting down. He has some videos on his own channel where he sings "unchained melody" and "at last" not just sitting down but at times when he is leaning towards the mike he is practically doubled over. Since you mentioned you do musical theatre you might be interested in Austin's version of "Bring Him Home" also on his own channel. Tim Foust also does solo work. He has an album of acapella doo-wop songs where he layers himself singing all the parts. He has released videos for four of them. And I haven't even gotten into their work with other artists like Peter Hollins and the Hound + the Fox... Tim, Austin and Chance all have significant amounts of collaborations.

Austin is a theatrically trained vocalist. Rob, the other tenor is Classically/operatically trained. Walking away from Home Free, The former Bassist for PTX, The great Avi Kaplan is also classically/operatically trained. None of them use the sounds but I know for sure, Avi trained so he would now how to properly use his voice without damaging it. He has a very nice 5+ octave range and is also an overtone singer. Her is a quick short he does. Not his song, but he writes 99%+ of his music. ru-vid.comGOmbO2CEPoc

Austin has a musical theater background as well. He was a cruise ship performer. I do love the background vocals on this number. I was around when Percy Sledge sang this one. Austin surpassed it in my opinion. I was not fond of Michael Bolton's version. Austin's lady was behind the camera so he was singing to her. I love this one. It makes all the girls swoon! They all do a spectacular job considering it's done individually without input from the others. I'm amazed they were so prolific through quarantine...they usually released two videos each month! His lady, Amberly, was in the studio with him which I'm sure had an influence on his performance. As for pausing, I'm pretty sure we've all seen the video... I enjoy when reactors pause when they hear something that calls my attention to details I had missed. The only thing I object to, really, is so much theory style comments to which most of us don't relate.

Austin really has a beautiful voice! They all do! I personally enjoy more their videos from live performances than the studio ones, they have great audience interaction. Look at one titled "BHH & WWTWWS" It's 7 or 8 years old, but it's worth it! First half is Austin singing Bring Him Home (makes me cry every time I listen to it, really!), and the second half is a fun skit they used to do, but this one has a special twist! You have been initiated. Life will not be the same after discovering Austin Brown. I like that you referred to his singing as flowing out of him, and as fluent. I go back and forth between fire and water: his voice flickers and it ripples. Sheets of lightning is my best characterization. One HF song that features the beauty of the 3 other singers' voices is In the Blood: Tim, Chance, and Rob all have unforgettable solos on this. And it's an incredibly beautiful song.

That open-mouthed fascination you showed, especially at the beginning, was (don't be offended, I'm 65 years old) adorable. I'm really enjoying your reactions. You need to remember that each of them will have sung their part directly into a microphone. (During lockdown, each of them set up a recording space in their home.) Then they're doing it AGAIN (and again and again) for the video. I'm sure that they're not simply lip-synching because it wouldn't look real, and they look like all the effort is right there during the videos. Their producer is incredible too. But it also means that Austin can be seated for the video, where he wouldn't likely be seated while recording the audio.

Just subscribed, first time watching you. I liked the way you did your reaction. The sliding into notes is something Austin does so incredibly mostly when he's doing the real country and twang, but at other times he does it when he's really being emotional. He takes one word and makes it into several syllables. I love that! It's just something he's really proficient at. I think you did Bring Him Home with Home Free. If you haven't yet, watch Austin do it as a soloist with piano accompaniment. It will blow you away! And another I love him doing a solo version of Tears in Heaven. So emotional. Take care and thanks again! PS: Meant to say I've been to 7 live shows of Home Free, incredible, fun, funny, awesome! You leave happy and shaking your head. I've never cared for this song. Still don't. But the boys killed it. Amazing backing vocals. Percussion perfection. And Austin just sailing off into the stratosphere like it's natural.

This is a reaction video. I truly do enjoy when you pause and comment. I prefer more pauses because I might learn something new from you. If I've never heard the original video, I watch it first and then go back to the reaction video. . Some reactors ended up not pausing and then comment at the end. I unsubscribed. I can just watch the original video.

Was about to subscribe until you started *analyzing*. That’s totally different from *reacting*. Sorry, but I don’t care for *analyzing* channels. But I’d say that you’re on the right track with Home Free!
