Reacting to Jeff Lynne's ELO - Mr Blue Sky 

As far as I'm concerned, and I'm a Zeppelin freak, this version of Mr. Blue Sky is ELO's Stairway to Heaven and is right up there in iconic land.

Fun fact: Many people don't understand the name of this band. They think 'electric light' orchestra, whatever that would be. No, it's electric 'light orchestra'. In the UK, a light orchestra is exactly what this band is; a small orchestral ensemble, in this case with electric instruments.

Wonderful group I've seen ELO in concert twice. Fun fact at the end of the song the piano player says "please turn me over" just a reminder to turn vinyl record over to play the other side. yes huge Beatles influence.

That is the happiest happy song ever! It elevates my mood every single time I hear it!

Electric Light Orchestra has a LOT of great songs! Jeff Lynne is a genius! Check out Livin' Thing, Don't Bring Me Down, Telephone Line, Rockaria, Evil Woman, Do Ya, Shangri-la, Showdown, Sweet Talkin' Woman, Can't Get It Out of My Head, All Over the World, Strange Magic, among others. Great stuff!

❤ I have always loved this song ever since it came out, and as a musician over the years, it's brilliant holds up. It was so perfect for that summer between my 9th and 10th grade year, I suddenly had a girlfriend for the first time ever, and we listened to a lot of records together, but when that came out and we heard it on the radio, she raced out and bought a copy of it and we spent a lot of time listening to the whole album, but Mr Blue Sky was in very heavy rotation with other things that we were listening to.

Good morning, lovely Maddy! ELO was a powerhouse, peaking 1976-1979, although they saw a gradual decline in chart dominance in the 80s, they had consistent album sales. A virtual plethora of chart hits. Songs such as Evil Woman, Showdown, and, I would argue, probably the best cover ever of Roll Over Beethoven. A very deep rabbit 🕳, enter with caution! I requested this, knowing everyone has heard this song somewhere. It's in countless movies, TV shows, and commercials. The reason I wanted you to watch the live version is so you could laugh when they hit the fire extinguisher instead of the cowbell, and you missed it, lol. That is how it was done on the studio version.

I've not even seen/heard Maddy's reaction yet.. I was 10yrs old when this Beauty was realised. Jumping and Stomping/Dancing ? around the living room with my Mum.x was such a Beautiful time. I cannot hear this song without it putting a spring in my step and good thoughts! WOW! I'm flying from Brisbane, Australia to LA so I can see Jeff Lynne and ELO on Friday, the 25th of October. Second last concert. I can't wait to see them and say hello to our Amercian friends!

Hi Maddy, Great group / lots of great songs. I noticed a lot people listed them and corrected you on the “ELO” vs. “E”, “L”, “O” situation. But another thing to keep in mind is that Jeff Lynne was also in the supergroup “The Traveling Wilburys” (1988 to 1991] which includes Tom Petty, George Harrison, Roy Orbison, and Bob Dylan. It was a short lived band but they were really, really good. It is sort of a little rabbit hole you can go down.

They had a string of banging hits here in the UK, Maddy. As you say, such a catchy song this one. The outro is a bit like the ending of a film.

Great song for sure. Reaction is cool as well. Maybe it is just me, but I think it is important to see a performance that is recorded from the actual tour of the album. Pink Floyd, Journey, Queen etc etc from the 2000's had lost nearly all of the energy and stage dynamics of the original tours. Cash grabs !

👹 .. here we go again .... Another reactor who has never heard of the legendary band E ........................ L ........................ O ...................... not "Eelow" , yikes. How on Earth have you never heard some radio host or someone say E ---- L ---- O in reference to Electric Light Orchestra ? .... with the slightest bit of searching before you record a reaction you could get these things right. The younger generation has so much to learn .. so so so so so so ...... so ................ so much.

The band goes by E L O not Elo. It stands for Electric Light Orchestra. No worries, you're still learnin'. I appreciate you taking the time and having an interest in the great music from the 50s 60 and 70s. Alot of us chrome haired geezers out here grew with 50s 60s and 70s rock n roll. The British Invasion by the Beatles, Stones, E L O, and countless others. Don't know where you live but if E L O ever comes near you - - - - - GO. I'm one of the lucky ones out here. My sister was 4 years older than me. I remember her having one of the 1st transistor radios. They were about the size of todays phones. This was in 1958 or so. I was 7 years old. I could hear her radio from my bedroom so I got to hear all of the early songs of the beginning of rock n roll. I remember Bill Haley and His Comets, Buddy Holly, Richie Valens, Elvis, and all the rest. Then came the Beatles, then came Jimi Hendrix and Cream the late 60s and into the explosion of music in the 70s . Along the way I learned, Rock n Roll is like driving a milk truck, ya stand up in the seat and put your foot on the floor - and it's really good for ya.
