@@milesbradshaw6643 Retcon. It's not an adaptation. It's a design change. It makes no logical sense for Grant to remember another type of Raptor after their design was changed. Think about it. (People will give various reasons for the design change but the only factual answer is that their designs changed as new information came out and new crews wanting their own take on the design. That's it.)

Stella on CGI: "the technology is a lot better, but the way we apply it is a lot sloppier". This is so true. I think corporate profit motives and rushed production contribute heavily toward this. Movies (in general) are increasingly more quantity over quality. This is why its harder to find timeless classics in more recent years.

Truth. Honestly the first two JP movies could be a master class in how the way you use CG is arguably more important than how "good" your CG is. The first Jurassic World had some of the most cutting edge CGI of its time, but even now it's already starting to feel a little dated. You don't "feel" like you're watching dinosaurs, you feel like you're watching CG dinosaurs. Meanwhile there are some shots in the first JP movie where you go "Oh yeah! That's some old ass CGI!" but for the most part you don't care because it's used with such care and craft that you still feel immersed in what you're watching, you know?

Shes really good! the only one they didn't get was the Ceratosaurus, which was one of my favourites as a kid. I was so happy to see it in Operation Genesis and then JW Evolution.

The common theory on why the spino was particularly mad at the people was for 1) experiments it endured and 2) holding a grudge for getting shot at and clipping it’s sail before the plane crashed. Animals IRL can hold grudges and remember faces. Such as crows and tigers.

The experiment sin question is also why it looks a lot different than the real world versions due to an incomplete fossil record and the "under the table" breeding of it. The Jurassic World web page is the only place that tells of this in detail, and according to it all the info on the website is cannon so yeah. It was basically an early hybrid attempt.

It’s already been stated that it was experimented on for the first 9 month (?) of its life (most likely painful and torture to test aggression). It’s also been stated it’s not “pure” and was part of an experiment called the “amalgamation testing” or something along those lanes which would explain its appearance. Camp Cretaceous S4 even has a line from a character saying it hates humans (the same Spino in this movie is on that season). It’s a pretty mysterious dinosaur lore wise. iirc in this movie the Spino is 3 years old and was still growing bc in cc s4 is nearly 46 to 50 feet in length. Darius’s model and the Spino was released in a size comparison chart and people did calculations to get the size which is bigger than the jp3 size chart.

The scene in the aviary and the scene on the river are both taken from the first JP novel. The differences being that the aviary had Cearadactylus (who weren't strong enough to pick up even a child), while it was the T. rex that swam after the raft (they also passed by a pair of Dilophosaurus doing a mating dance, and trees full of Microceratus).

Funny thing about the T-Rex is that a lot of research posits that they would have been very good swimmers and might have actually been able to use water to ambush prey. It's been theorized for the longest time that, due to the body plan of the Rex, it wouldn't have been a good endurance hunter. So a lot of theories have been put forward for various ambush tactics. Being able to swim well would have made it a pretty damn scary son of a bitch :D

The reason for these raptors looking different is that they are a separate subspecies (the tiger striped ones are lowland raptors while the ones in these are highland raptors) Also the ones with the blue stripes are males and the only spotted one is a female

The Spinosaurus is honestly the main reason why this film became so divisive among fans of the franchise. They decided to make Spinosaurus the main villain because at the time, it was a very poorly known Dinosaur (the only major specimen that had ever been found of it was accidentally destroyed by a World War II Allied bombing raid). Unfortunately, its portrayal in this film created a huge amount of backlash, especially in the scene where it killed a T-Rex so easily. More research on Spinosaurus since the film came out has shown just how inaccurate the film's portrayal of it was. The TRUE Spinosaurus was a Dinosaur that spent most of its life in the water and primarily hunted fish (it also would have been DEAD after that first bite from T-Rex). The real Spinosaurus has turned out to be so different than what Jurassic Park 3 portrayed it as that the filmmakers have actually had to go back into the lore and completely retcon the Spino's story to make it a Dinosaur whose genetic code was HEAVILY edited and experimented on by InGen. As a result of all this experimentation, and even honestly some torture as well, the InGen Spinosaurus REALLY hated humans, which is where this "murderous intent" that you see in the film comes from.

Hit the nail on the head there. The Spinosaurus was the first step in experiment Indominus. Indominus Rex is the final result of this little science project. It's design was accurate though to what we thought it looked like in the time when this movie eas shot. The aqua Spinosaurus is quite recent and long after this movie was made

@@DiscusvissenRockenHave to admit one of the things I actually *liked* about this and Jurassic World were Dr. Grant and then Dr. Wu pointing out that further discoveries confirmed all the gene editing they had to do really did make grotesque amusement park monsters rather than even semi-accurate recreations. Wrong sizes, mishapened flesh, absent feathers, etc. Ret-con or not it was a decent enough way to nod at all of the previous guesses and creative liberties.

@@Knight-Bishop the only real creative liberty was the Velociraptor naming since the actual real world Velociraptor was the size of a 6 foot turkey ( yeah the fat kid was actually right!). other than that they actually kept true to the novels and had good reasoning as to why the dinosaurs aren't 100% accurate: the genetic crossing made inaccurate dinosaurs with genetic defects, like the blind T rex (if it was 100% paleo accurate it would deffo know you're there even if you'd stay still, and it would also smell you). the Dilophosaurus that attacks Nedry was a juvenile in the novel hence why it is so small, and yeah Wu sums up why the dinosaurs aren't 100% paleo accurate, it is because of the gene mixing with amphibians and other modern animals instead of a 100% accurate genome for each dinosaur.

All the Jurassic films were equally enjoyable for me that being said the original films carry all nostalgia feels for me, as for the reboot Chris and Bryce together were a very charismatic and entertaining duo and really enjoyed their dynamic throughout.

I’m going to be honest, but this was my first Jurassic Park film I saw in theaters and even if this wasn’t everyone’s favorite JP film it did help most of us who were born in the mid-late 1990’s to watch the other films in the franchise before Jurassic World came out 14 years later, plus I love that the Pteranodon plays a larger role in this as their one of my favorite Dinosaur, even though its a Pterosaur. In addition, it was good to see Sam Neil and Laura Dern as Dr. Alan Grant and Ellie in the film, the former in much larger role and we wouldn’t even see them again until _Jurassic World Dominion_ 21 years later.

41:02 did no one connect that the helicopter noise in the background was noticed by the veloceraptors and the veloceraptors let them go because of the noise? Edit: also I thought that when Alan made the veloceraptor calls, the veloceraptors couldn't understand him and one was going for the kill until the female/white one stopped them and that's when they heard the helicopter. They thought Alan called for reinforcements just like one of the veloceraptors did in the lab, and because of how loud the helicopter was, they didn't want to deal with that and left with their eggs.

I noticed that when I first saw this movie as a kid. It's just obvious. In fact, the way I saw it: The first call made no sense and quite possibly sounded like a provocation. The second sound they recognised as "I'm in trouble. Help me" and so some of them were ready to shut them up. Hearing a noise that they didn't recognise: They decided it wasn't worth their trouble and should just take what they came for. I honestly didn't know there would be anyone out there that would interpret the scene any differently. It just seems so obvious.

The raptors in the movie are based on Deinonychus which was the size of those in the films. Velociraptors were the size of a turkey. Apparently, Spielberg thought Velociraptor was a better fit. Interestingly, a then new species, Utahraptor, was discovered right as the first movie was released. It was twice the size of the raptors depicted in the movie. As one scientist noted, Utahraptor may have been "the most vicious animal that ever lived".

This movie had a lot of production problems behind the scenes, involving the original script, which was immediately thrown out before filming had begun: It was going to involve a couple of teenagers surviving a plane crash on Isla Sorna on their way to the Galapagos to meet their families. They encounter a strange hermit living in a treehouse, who turns out to be none other than Alan Grant, having snuck onto the island to study the dinosaurs in their habitat. The plot would later be the basis for JURASSIC WORLD: Camp Cretaceous. The Spinosaurus was written into the film on to be the main baddy. Baryonyx was considered to be the villain before the producers settled on Spinosaurus. The T-Rex animatronic used in the film had it's head torn right off during the first take. The actors suffered a lot of cuts and bruises and the makeup artists had to cover up the actual cuts to their face or hand to make it more authentic.

@@amber.ren_1995 They also had a much better alternative plot with half the movie taking place on the islands and the other half taking place on the main land investigating sightings of dinosaurs as well as dead dinosaurs that washed up on shore (it followed the novels a bit better in those regards). I believe Grant in that treatment was leading the investigation of the sightings on the mainland in that one but the details are foggy since its been a few years since i saw the information.

4:48 "They had kids!!!" Man. I remember having the same excitement and joy over the fate of two of my favorite characters. Shame it hit the rocks harder than the speedboat in the intro less than 2 minutes later. This movie has a lot of issues, but for me the biggest is that Ellie and Alan didn't wind up together, and honestly, the only reason I can see for that decision was so that Alan could have someone to call for help at the end of the movie. Easily could've been written differently, maybe Ellie couldn't accompany him to the island as she was pregnant with their next child, just anything besides this trite story. Especially as, (SPOILER ALERT) they wind up together in JW3 anyway!

Funny enough, Grant and Ellie being in a relationship was movie only. In the original novel, they genuinely were just teacher/student, and Ellie was engaged to a doctor/lawyer

They kind of touch on this in the first movie when Alan is teaching the kid about how raptors hunt at start of the movie. Then when Ellie and Alan are talking about kids (right before Hammond shows up) Ellie says that she wants kids someday but Alan never says he wants them. Futhermore he even actively avoids Hammonds grandkids when possible at the start of the "tour". So it's not a far leap to assume that Alan doesn't want kids but Ellie does and that would basis for them not staying together.

Fun fact: Billy was supposed to die, but test audience didn't like it so they decided to show Billy survived, Also if your interested there's a book about how Eric survived on the island I can't remember the title though Edit : it's called jurassic park adventures survivor

Apparently the actor who played Billy, Alessandro Nivola criticized the film and his characters survival in 2002: _"It was like the only part I've ever done that just had nothing for me to latch on to, character-wise. [...] It was kind of maddening"_

The weirdest part of this franchise is that the animated Netflix series Camp Cretaceous - for kids - is more lore accurate and more true to Crichton's themes than every movie after 2. And it's based off of Jurassic World, not even the book.

I think the issue here directors and writers like to put their own touch on the productions instead of follow it to the letter to not exclude creativity which is understandable but unfortunately sometimes they take it too far away from the original book or game material and it destroys the very essence that fans liked about it in the first place! So i guess balance is always key when it comes to adaptations.

CC is my favourite thing to come out of the franchise in the last 5 years. The story is really cool, I love the characters once you get past some of the slightly cringey dialogue in the first few episodes, and it really does a good job of incorporating lore from the books and other media.

I really love the new designs for the dinosaurs here, they’re so colourful in contrast to the dull browns and greens in the previous films. Especially the sexual dimorphism on display here (though the dull browns made sense given females of avians are typically duller that those of the males, but I digress).

Chef Nourhan Malik🍃 Jurassic Park is a bit over 2 hours long and The Lost World is around 2 hours and 10 minutes. So JP3, which clocks in at around 1 hour 30 minutes, could feel a decent bit shorter. Though, apart from marathoning the whole trilogy back to back, I'm not sure how noticeable the run time difference actually is.

So when this film wasn't as good as the previous ones (for several reasons), length was a good thing to point at and use as short-hand for "this director doesn't know action films". Which is ludicrous since Johnston is responsible for the original Jumanji, but it was low-hanging fruit for detractors.

When I was younger, this was my favorite out of the entire series. I never cared for 2 so I would always rewatch 1 and 3. I finally rewatched 3 last year (after about a decade) and while not as great as I remember, I still enjoy it and it's still my favorite out of the series. I think it's the birdcage and the entire phone/water sequence that make me love this movie so much.

There was a docu-series ages ago called "Walking With Dinosaurs" that followed a hypothetical trail of a pterodactyl. According to the info they had at the time they regularly flew hundreds of miles at a time. However, given their size "flapping" took a lot of energy and they were likely masters of updrafts. Floating on warm air essentially. They used coast lines I suppose where warm air was forced up along cliffs. So they could probably fly super far, but not likely over flat water .

Walking With Dinosaurs was amazing! I had it recorded on VHS from when it aired on tv back in the day. Along with the documentary about Big Al the allosaurus. It was so cool to have a dinosaur documentary series that was made like a normal nature documentary and not just experts talking about fossils.

Sorry I’m a massive Dino nerd and kind of pedantic a lot of the time. 😅 The genus in that episode was called Ornithocheirus. The general name for the flying reptiles that lived alongside Dinosaurs is Pterosaurs. Pterodactylus is an individual Pterasaur genus.

also in the book it is described in detail that the guy protected the boy by wrapping his body around the kid to shield him from the impact of the tree branches which broke many bones and caused internal bleeding and that even though he was telling the boy those last words at the end and that everything was going to be okay both he and the boy knew he wasn't since the guy was kinda choking on his own blood and he eventually lost to his injuries and critters feasted on him for the next 8 weeks

The Velociraptors in the movie are actually based on a real Raptor called Denonychus. They just decided to call them Velociraptor because it sounded cooler, if I remember correctly. They are still slightly bigger in the movie than what they actually were but it’s a lot closer in size.

Deinonychus antirrhopus was briefly called velociraptor antirrhopus, around the time the original book was being written. They did scale them up a little, but not as much as people think when referring to what velociraptor typically refers to, and utahraptor was discovered during production and nearly named after Spielberg because it was the same size as what they were using.

They were thought to be the same genus by scientists in the late 80s, and Velociraptor was discovered first, so that name took precedence. It’s the same as the ongoing Apatosaurus/Brontosaurus argument.

Birds leaving their babies because you touched them is actually an old wives tale. It was used to keep children from messing with birds nests/babies/eggs. If you ever find a baby bird on the ground that has little to no feathers, please pick them up and put them back in the nest if you can.

Glad they found a place to put that in a movie. The whole Raptor egg theft storyline was in the 2nd book. Different characters involved, but the whole plot was there.

We actually do have some dinosaurs with confirmed colors and patterns like Sinosauropteryx, a relative of the Compy that had feathers (Compy probably had feathers too), it's feathers were a chestnut color with a banded tail and a face mask like a raccoon. Psittacosaurus, a specimen of this dinosaur showed it with a black head, dark brown back and orange belly, and yellow bristles on its tail. Borealopelta, an armored Ankylosaur which was a complete mummy that showed the animal was reddish brown. Even colors from some more bird like dinosaurs like Microraptor having the same color as a crow, Anchiornis having black and white feathers with a red crest of feathers on its head as well as Caihong, which had a head of iridescent feathers. So it's not all guesswork we do have some examples of species with confirmed coloring.

Fun fact! This movie is what taught me that pterodactyls are carnivorous 😅 I knew only what the land before time had taught me about dinosaurs, so my initial thoughts during the bird cage scene went from "oh neat a pterodactyl!" To "omg they're going to eat you, run!!!" Definitely like this one better than lost world, having Alan back was great because i knew there was at least one smart person on the team. William H Macy and Téa Leoni were amazing of course too.

I remember Face-Off so vividly. I used to place bets and even recreate the fights with my clay animals that I sculpted myself. There was something else I wanted to mention, but I forgot what it was. Edit: I finally remembered what it was. I had the JP raptor toys that was like Rock’em Sock’em Robots. They made noises and such. What happened to the boat crew at the beginning, it’s rumored they were both attacked and Eaten… by either Spinosaurs the main villain of the movie or… the Pterodactyl’s or Pteranadons that were free roaming the fog area and saw the boat men trespassing their territory and attacked and killed them possibly grappled them off the boat and drowned them from what I pictured in my mind on how they got out of the boat. Sadly they drove the boat to the wrong area. The reason why I think there was smoke is either due to volcanic activity below the water or… somebody had did an illegal leak dumping of some kind of chemical material or gasoline tank. Probably by inGen before the Hurricane hit the island, which they say is why the island’s laboratory was left abandoned.

So, as Stella mentioned, yes, it is a common and very accepted theory that Spinosaurus and Baryonyx ate fish, wich is related to the phenomenon of ecological niches: to coexist, species develop different adaptations to serve their functional roles in a system, so fish eaters usually develop long snouts (In mammals: dolphins; in reptiles: crocodiles; in birds: pelicans, cranes, storks, boobies and cormorants), so the shape of their faces was probably related to said function

Fun fact: In the original novel, Alan Grant and Ellie Sattler were NOT romantic partners, but teacher and student, Ellie was engaged to either a lawyer or a doctor. Them being an item is movie only The Spinosaurus kept chasing them because their plane hit him, injuring him, so he wanted revenge on them, as well as he was an abused animal when he was growing up, so he has a special hatred for humans. Apparently the Spinosaurus is a male, he's also described as a T-Rex hunter, intentionally going after Rexes and killing them to establish himself as the apex predator No, Velociraptors were not as big nor were they anywhere nearly as intelligent as they are in the movies. The real raptors were the size of turkeys, and nowhere near as smart as they are described to be

Glad you guys are continuing the series, I actually love every movie & can’t wait for y’all to finish! Set spoiler (kinda) for Jurassic World… So, I feel like you’re gonna ask or wonder, & I was an extra in Jurassic world and yes the park area with all the stores & shops were practical. That part was filmed in the abandoned six flags in Louisiana and there were TONS of extras. We had to use a password they sent in the email the morning of filming to get into the park. We did SO much running and walking. Everything leading up to the stairs was real & behind the double doors was a green screen but the water area & other scenes were not filmed on that same set. Also the actors were pretty cool, since we all spent so many hours running & sweating together they sat w us in between takes and were really humble, especially CP. It was the middle of a hot Louisiana summer 🥵🥵 and we had to wait until the sun was brightest and there were no clouds in the sky. But they kept us very well fed and hydrated. In between every single take they had set crew coming to hand out water, gatorades and snacks. We got breakfast every morning & lunch. Margaritaville was real lol but the drinks weren’t. I’ve been on many sets but to this day, this was still the best one! You could tell that everyone part of this film, cast & crew loved their job, they were so pleasant. And the budget was huge, they treated their extras very well & at the end they let us keep the wrist bands from the park. I can’t find mine anymore tho lol

I think this movie gets a lot of undeserved hate. It's not bad, it's just not as good as the first two and especially the first one. For me it's mainly because the characters are not as likeable, except for Eric, and Alan of course. Ellie is barely in it and I reacted the same way you did when I realised she was married to another guy! But that's why you NEED to watch all the Jurassic World movies. I think at least the first Jurassic World is considered generally better than this one but I think the second one is just as good and the third one, while it was a bit overhyped, it's still enjoyable because the OGs are back. Btw, I had such a crush on Trevor Morgan who plays Eric and James reminds me a bit of him! I also suggest another movie with him called The Glass House. Stellan Skarsgård also stars in it, who you've seen in Pirates of the Caribbean and Mamma Mia, and he's so creepy in it.

It’s disappointing about Ellie and Alan, but based on the first movie, it’s pretty obvious that they split cause she wanted kids and he didn’t. Both them and Ian are JW3, so this isn’t the last we see of them. Honestly, I prefer JP3 to TLW, but JW1 is my favorite of all 6 movies, so I’m stoked you guys decided to proceed with the rest of the series. 🙂

Here's a detail from the novels. In the first novel, Alan and Ellie were never a couple. Ellie was one of his students. The movies made them a couple, so when Chrichton wrote the sequel novel to provide material for Spielberg's sequel film (much of which was never used), he introduced some retcons to kinda align the plot with movie details. There it is revealed that at some point Alan and Ellie were in a brief relationship, but she married someone elese. Then in the third movie they used that separation to help push Alan towards making the journey to the islands again. And fans have been salty ever since.

I maintain that there's a movie buried in Jurassic Park 3 that's actually good, and it's about Alan, raptors, and communication. The dinner scene opens with Alan trying to get a parrot-a modern dinosaur-to say his name. On the plane, he dreams about a Velociraptor-an ancient bird-saying his name. In the forest, he witnesses Velociraptors coordinating their search for the thieves that took their eggs. In the labs, he realizes that they have specific purpose-designed calls. In the finale, he buys time with the raptors by using the 3D-printed resonating chamber to "call for help." That arc should have been the core of the movie.

While it's true that "velociraptors" were really tiny, about the size of a large cat or small dog, "utahraptors" which were discovered during the time of production, are actually the size of a person as shown in the film. So, while they're called "velociraptors" in the films, they're actually "utahs" but that name didn't sound as scary so "velos" were chosen. 2. For the spino and rex fight, the spino was an animatronic that the crew moved around to fight a CGI rex. The fact that a fish-eating dinosaur killed the t-rex made a lot of fans very unhappy. 3. There was a new skeleton found of spinosaurus. The previous and only pieces of spine that had been discovered were destroyed in WW2 bombings so this half-complete skeleton was a massive find. They discovered that the tail was crocodile-like, leading many scientists to believe that spinosaurus was a mostly aquatic dinosaur that lived in swamps. Additionally, more pieces of the spine were found that suggests the fin on its back was most likely two hills rather than one. It's portrayal in the film is accurate as a water dinosaur. 4. the red dinosaur near the spino dropping is a ceratosaurus :D

Quick thinking Stella at like 27:20, about spinosaurus as a semiaquatic dinosaur. But that wasnt actually known about spinosaurus back when the movie was made. I think the first speciman that helped us think about that was found in 2014, long after the movie. Originally, spinosaurus was mostly known from some teeth and drawings of vertebrea, skull and ribs. The first original speciman was destroyed during WW2, coz it was stored in a museum in Munich, Germany. The function of the sail is still unknown. I think ive read about some simulations last year, in which the sail was actually not really functioning in a hydrodynamic way. If spinosaurus were to roll in the water, the authors of the paper stated that the drag of the sail would actually be an obstacle to get the animal upright again in a fully submerged state. So there is still a lot of mystery to spinosaurus. For all we know the spines could be attachments for a hump of fat, like a buffalo or camel's. What we do know though, is that its tail was actually a flat rudder, and its hindlimbs were about as short as its arms, so it was likely mostly a quadruped, maybe facultatively able to move as a biped, but it was quite top heavy. All in all longer than T-Rex, and maybe heavier, but definitely not taller. I just wanna state though that the JP spinosaurus was a pretty fair depiction for its time. We didnt have the fossils back then, and we couldnt have assumed it to be this strange for a theropod dinosaur.

The brief scene on the river with the brachiosaurus pack and the classic music in it still gets me every time; goosebumps, hair standing on end, wonder and awe. It's my favorite scene of this movie.

Also different climates AND continants if I remember. Tyrannosaurus was indigenous to modern North America, and would have lived in forests and grasslands. Spinosaurus _Aegypticus_ unsurprisingly lived around Egypt and central europe, and it's semi aquatic nature meant it would have lived in Jungles and Marshes with lots of access to rivers.

Therizinosaurus is so amazing and the best examble how much knowledge the scientist still gain from digging up dinosaurs. In my newest Dinosaursenzyklopedia from the early 2000s Therizinosaurus is mantioned but the designed is awkward since they only had founnd the claws and part of it's ribchaged but they already knew it had feathers. Now there are even Therizinosaurus-Toys.

I honestly dont know why people are so critical of this film. Its so much better than Jurassic Park 2. The action is non-stop, it has a plausible storyline, the acting is great, the effects are brilliant. Its a great film.

Funny personal story with watching this movie years ago. It was on TV, and we get to the Kirby reunion scene and the Spinasaurus shows up, phone jingling. During the next commercial break, my dad's work phone goes off with the same ringtone. I jumped about a foot off the couch.

@@sawanna508 when Jurassic park was written the name deinonychus didn't exist, they were considered a second species of velociraptor, so the size is actually very close to what it ought to be, the animals name simply changed

The Utahraptor is the larger raptor as depicted in the first two. As figured from skeleton analysis after this film, the Spinosaurus didn't have a strong bite force like the T Rex which had a massive bite force. The spinosaurus was probably mostly in water and slower moving and probably couldn't take a T Rex. It's figured a powerful Rex bite would be enough.

27:20 To answer your question, yup Spineys are actually a widley debated dinosaur as newer and newer fossils keep getting found. First they were just a larger than a t-rex bipedal dinosaur. Then people determined there large forelimbs meant they were mostl ikely quadrupeds. Then it was determined their jaw structure was better suited for catching fish. Then back to being bipedal, and most recently from what I can recall it was discovered that they actually had much larger wider tails that resembled fins or crocodile tails. So it's assume they were water-based predators... but i'm probably missing things for this.

14:49 The Spinosaurus V T-Rex fight scene was supposed to have animatronics involved, but it had been delayed and rewritten because the Spinosaurus animatronic was so powerful that it literally decapitated the T-Rex animatronic, which was the same animatronic from the Lost World, so that is now destroyed, forever. To give you an idea of how powerful it really was, the Spinosaurus’ head alone had a total of 1,000 horsepower in the animatronic parts that control it.

So about velociraptors: an actual “velociraptor” is smaller yes,(in fact on the smaller side comparatively) but there are bigger types of raptors. There’s many types of raptors or “Dromeosaurids” and some are more similar in size to the films. The movie raptors are more like Utahraptors or Dakotaraptors. Oh and they were likely feathered

I've said it before, Jurassic Park III is the Jurassic Park equivalent of a B movie - when seen through that lense, it's easy enough to switch your brain off and enjoy. I have to admit, I really enjoyed the subplot of Alan struggling with his lifestyle following living dinosaurs being public knowledge, and that puts Billy's actions into a new perspective. I wish the film had focused more on them, to be honest. And Ellie, being a paleobotanist, could have had more to do as well. I do like that they introduced new animals as well, and they did something interesting and new with the raptors (I think the paler colour is meant to indicate sexual dimorphism). I have to say though, whilst it was introduced to have a new mega theropod, having it take out the T.rex felt a bit fanboyish, and unfortunately, led to Jurassic World relying too much on dinosaur battles. It feeling thrown together and not playing enough with interesting concepts definitely makes me see it as the weakest of the original Jurassic trilogy. Couple of fun dino facts - for what was being said about the colour, in recent years, some exquisitely preserved fossils have contained traces of pigment, and we've been able to extrapolate some dinosaur colourings from them. My favourite example is Sinosauropteryx, a small carnivore from China, which had an orange and white banded tail, which makes it an adorable necessity to any future dinosaur franchise. And recent research on Spinosaurus have discovered it to be well-suited to a semi-aquatic lifestyle, with shorter hindlegs than shown here, but a massive paddle-like tail. It was absolutely vast, likely the largest theropod, and though its diet was mostly fish, this included fish the size of cars.

Unless I've missed something big happening in the world of dinosaurs that would refute this, I think the current consensus is that many dinosaur species had feathers either on parts of their bodies or even covering their entire bodies. And that they've been able to find traces of pigments or something like that to show that the plumages had a mix of colours. It's really cool stuff. I wish we'd get a Jurassic Park/World esque movie where the dinosaurs reflected the current findings too. There was a documentary back in 2018 called 'The Real T. rex with Chris Packham' where they focused solely on digitally recreating a T-rex based on what was known of the species in light of new findings. If I remember correctly there was even talk of theories that T-rex could have lived and hunted in packs, kind if like lions in prides. The reasoning was that a fully grown T-rex would have been too slow to hunt effectively on its own and without wasting too much energy. So in a pack dynamic the juveniles who were smaller and faster went after the prey and herded it towards the adults who had the bite power to actually kill. No idea if there's been any additional proof added to that theory or if it's been debunked, but the idea is just so cool I wouldn't even care if it's false if they made a movie with a T-tex pack hunting humans. 😂

Spinosaurus is semi-aquatic. I'm proud to say that most everything that I know about dinosaurs came from a book when I was a kid (All About Dinosaurs) and watching "Dinosaur Train" with my daughter when she was younger.
