I don't have a horror movie idea but I do have another that I put in the live chat but I figured putting it here wouldn't be better for you to see it. Guillermo Del Toro just made a stop motion Pinocchio movie on Netflix and I was wondering if you would react to it. Just from watching it once it's become one of my favorite movies of all time. Del Toro is an amazing director and designer, and this Pinocchio movie is based more off of the book with some creative liberties taken. Del Toro just gave Disney a slap in the face with a masterpiece compared to their fail of a live action reboot.

When I first saw this movie, just like you guys, I took it that they were trapped in the snow globe, sort of doomed to keep repeating the same Christmas forever. It's a dark ending that made sense to me. Then, I realized people were arguing about it online, as a lot of people thought the snow globes were just a means of Krampus viewing and keeping watch over people/families. As you see the globes, you hear the song line "he sees you when you're sleeping, etc." I remember reading that the filmmaker wouldn't really say which was true, but apparently there was a tie-in graphic novel that showed Krampus only viewed people through the snow globes, and no one was actually trapped in them.

So, I believe it was the director who said that the ending of the movie shows Krampus watching the family from afar. They are not trapped in a snow globe. They're being watched closely. He gave them a second chance. This is indeed canon, I just can't remember which member of the staff who worked on the movie confirmed it.

The concept of Krampus is German/Austrian (well... from the German-speaking regions of the Alps). Krampus is Saint Nicolaus' helper. Btw. Saint Nicolaus is the actual real-life saint the figure of Santa Claus is based on which is why in German tradition he still looks more like a bishop than the CocaCola advert figure Americans have. In Germany we still call him Saint Nicolaus, but he doesn't visit children on Christmas, but on the 6th of December, to bring them sweets, nuts, oranges and sometimes some small gifts. Along with Saint Nicolaus comes - bearing rattling chains, a willow rod and a large dirty sack - Krampus. The good children will get their treats from Saint Nicolaus. The bad children will get threatened and maybe even receive a rod whip or two by Krampus who will then threaten to put them in his sack and take them away. Usually, Saint Nicolaus will then look at the kid severely and ask them if from now on they'll vow to be better and once the trembling kid says yes Saint Nicolaus will tell Krampus to back off XD To this day I remember being horrified of Krampus who would come all the way to our Bavarian playschool along with Saint Nicolaus. Another tradition of Krampus in the Alps is called Krampuslauf in which groups of young men will dress up as Krampusses with horrifying wooden carved masks, wearing goat skins, heavy bells and willow rods. Thus they'll walk through town throwing a ruckus and again try to scare onlookers. It's quite the spectacle. The original meaning of those Alpine creatures was to scare winter away and for springtime to hopefully arrive soon. This tradition kind of merged with the tradition of celebrating Saint Nicolaus over time. Do google "Krampuslauf", it's quite something. Btw. on Christmas itself in Germany it's not Santa who brings the presents, but either the 'Christkind' (an angel-like child figure literally translating to the Christmas Child) in the South or the "Weihnachtsmann" (lit the Christmas Man, more akin to Santa Claus) in the North. In the North too they have a Krampus-like persona who is called "Knecht Ruprecht", who basically does the same as Krampus, but he's not a monster, but more of a normal person and dark servant to the Weihnachtsmann.

The musical score of Krampus is very sublime to behold. Douglas Pipes (best known for scoring Trick "r Treat) bought in some amazing musical tones. Balanced the traditional jolly and whimsical holiday music with the suspenseful and quite bombastic horror orchestral. I really like those rising dissonant strings and brass! The choirs are majestic and intense. I also like that had this kind of gothic musical kind of thing going on half of the time. It has some good somber moments as well.

One of the craziest and funniest dark comedy fantasy horror films ever made! Krampus does not give, but to take. Krampus does not, forgive but to punish. Krampus does not, forget but will remember. The ending was left ambiguous until it was confirmed in the Graphic Novel version where Max and his family got a second chance of happiness and enjoying Christmas, having taught them a lesson: never lose your spirit, while Krampus is watching them from a snow globe.

for those interested: krampus is of hungarian-austrian origins and was culturally borrowed from ancient slawic mythology. krampus became popular together with st. nicholas during the 15th century. krampus was thought to be the counterpart to st. nicholas, capturing and punishing naughty children. just you know: "krampus" means "clawed" or "withered".

If they ever make a sequel to this maybe they'll show the real face of krampus and just show him a little bit more
@83shadow3
@83shadow3 Год назад
That will never happen because I have the Shout/ Scream Factory Collector's Editions of Krampus the naughty cut basically the directors cut. On the audio commentary Michael Dougherty clearly states they had Krampus wearing a mask made out of someone's face on purpose. Because there is only two constant things in his description one he has goat feet an he has horns on his head those are the only constants. So they did not want to give him a definitive look in the movie so they had him wear a mask made out of someone's face so you don't see his face. Because they did not want to do what Coca-Cola did with Santa Claus when they put him in their commercials. Because for prime example all of the elves faces or mask are someone's description of Krampus is face. So by having Krampus wear a mask made out of someone's face. Anyone's description of Krampus can be correct so they will never show Krampus face. Because Michael Dougherty stays true to all of the lore as possible an in the lore there is several different descriptions of his face.

All you can see of his face, is his eyes and tongue. Although his eyes are really hard to see. If I'm remembering correctly, he took the face of someone that resembled Santa, to wear as a mask.

While I like the idea that the family is trapped for eternity, the tie-in graphic novel revealed that they were returned to the real world and that Krampus will always be watching them. Even the filmmaker revealed this to be the case. However, I have a theory on why Krampus did this. It wasn't because he wanted to, or had a change of heart, it was because he was forced to. Krampus can only take those who lose hope and the Christmas spirit. However, throughout this movie, we see the family coming together and having redeeming qualities. But it was Max in the very end who ended up saving them through his willingness to face Krampus and make a wish that overrides his previous one. It was a true wish, one that was genuine. Add on that the family did have a change in how they viewed each other, Krampus had no choice but to abide by the rules and send them back, while still keeping an eye on them. The globes in his home aren't those who he has collected, they are the ones who escaped him, or those who have yet to face him.

The Bell instead of being a magical symbol gifted by Santa(like in The Polar Express) is instead a symbol of I let you get away this time so don't forget to keep Christmas in your heart or else!

For me, the underlying metaphors of humanity losing the true values of Christmas are all together too real and so xmas horror movies like gremlins and krampus are juuuuust the appropriate wake up calls

This is a yearly watch for me, lol. As far as Christmas horror goes, along with this one, Black Christmas (the original, 1974) and Better Watch Out (2016) are some of my favorites.

✨️Great reaction✨️ I knew Twilight would get brought up when Max woke up at the end there🤣 I watch this film every year around Halloween and Christmas time, It's just too classic🥸. Universal Studios' Halloween Horror Nights in Orlando FL did a Krampus Haunted House a few years back and it was so detailed and great👀 They even had the kitchen scene with the gingerbread men attacking with the mail gun and candy cane spears! I loved it.. But When I tell you my mother was so concerned when I showed her this film last Christmas😅 Also also Family Guy made a Krampus episode many years ago. Krampus is of European folklore. Mainly German, he is supposedly a half goat half demon amd man. He accompanies Santa in monitoring the children around Christmas time, only; he punishes naughty children (and their families I think). He isn't seen as Evil, he represents fair punishment and retribution. Although he's often depicted as the Anti-Santa or Evil-Santa.

This is not your Hallmark Channel Christmas movie! I couldn’t resist. LOL! This is called Christmas Horror. There are two I have seen: “Gremlins” & “Krampus”Others are Better Watch Out” (2016) and stop motion animated “The Nightmare Before Christmas” (1993).

I’m really glad my holidays were never like that. We usually just hosted my aunt and her husband. (They don’t have children) or spend time with my grandma. Most of my cousins are pretty nice. And some are older and have their own thing going on the holidays so we rarely see each other. I do have a crazy aunt that we have never spend Christmas with, and I’m so relieved.😂

I remember watching this movie a few weeks ago IDK and it wasn’t really that scary I thought I was gonna have Nightmares on steroids. Krampus instead of giving presents he beats naughty children he’s like half Goat demon. I can’t believe that Toni Colette was in this film. 2:23 Same. I’m an animation fan.

California gets lots of blizzards just not in the cities and coastal areas, there's a whole mountain range on one side of the state with places like Shasta, Mammoth, Tahoe, Big Bear, Arrowhead. There's a reason Surf and Ski is a thing. I get really tired of explaining "yes I have actually seen snow" when I travel.

If you haven't seen it, you have to see trick r treat which is by the same director and came before this. I personally think that one is his best even though I still really like this. They are actually in the process of creating a sequel for trick r treat. That is a Halloween movie so maybe do it for next Halloween or something or just do it at any point its up too you but I really do recommend it.
