My English wasn't always so fluent! Watch me react to home videos of mini me! I also attempt to speak French, do the macarena and play the piano.. I miss being little. I mean I'm still little in size but you know what I mean.

You have such a weird accent when you speak English lol. You are constantly changing from English accent to American and then back to English every other sentence, some of the words you actually sound Australian too. Are you aware of this or is this just your natural flow?

Omg this is so relatable, I have so many videos of my Cantonese accent when I was younger. It's really suprising how your Cantonese is still so on point while managing your other languages. I know 3 languages but sometimes I can't express myself without having to add a few words from another language.

poortaiwanese Who are you to define which is Chinese or which is a dialect?
@LLL0966
@LLL0966 7 лет назад
Because I am Chinese. To us, Mandarin is a language rather than a dialect. Although my hometown has its own dialect we are required to learn Mandarin in elementary school and our teachers are required to teach only in Mandarin. That's why Mandarin is understood across the whole mainland of China including Guangdong province - the only province in the mainland of China where most people speak Cantonese. When I visited there, they had no trouble understanding and speaking Mandarin to me.
@ghost_curse
@ghost_curse 7 лет назад
LLL0966 But as the other person said, it's because Mandarin is the official language of the country, so you are required to learn it in school even if you primarily speak Cantonese at home.
@LLL0966
@LLL0966 7 лет назад
ghost_curse There are about 270 dialects in China. Cantonese is just one of them. There are 23 provinces in China, Cantonese is spoken only in one of them plus Hong Kong. I'm not from either place, meaning I don't know a single word in Cantonese.

Haha..very cute! I missed speaking Cantonese, haven't spoken it for 30 years and now I am re-learning it all over again. I still have the Cantonese accent while speaking English. I am from Hong Kong originally, came to the States back in 1985. I did not have anyone to speak Cantonese with so I gradually lost most of my Cantonese. I do plan on moving back to H.K in the future. Right now I am trying to remember Cantonese by watching TVB online, as well as Chinese drama for Mandarin. Cheers!

this is a good opportunity to send your son to Chinese school in USA or to China to go to grade 1 and grade 2 after that he can come back to USA and know Chinese. but since sending him to china is costly so just send him to Chinese school. its a place where they teach kids born in america Chinese . this is a key opportunity because your son is young and is very capable of learning new languages very fast. there pronunciation is very good . Chinese school is a good way of teaching him Chinese. Chinese school is after school. there should be something like this by your area you just need to find one. theres so much immigration but many kids born to immigrants don't know there native mother tougue but some do know but lack the skills to write and read their language. I was born to Chinese parents but we didn't live in china. my parents didn't really care about my Chinese so I never went to any Chinese school. I know how to speak basic Chinese as my parents spoke mainly Chinese at home. I don't know how to write or read Chinese. I don't like how so many kids born to immigrant parents can't read or write their own language most of them know how to speak it. since your kid is very young you need to ensure he knows his language very well. if you wait any longer its only going to get harder for him to learn it. I now take Chinese courses at school and its hard learning my language but I'm willing to learn it no matter the difficulty. you as parents need to start speaking more Chinese to him so he can get use to the tones and sounds. over time your sons Chinese will improve.

@@KonfidenceRU-vid *you're Yeah. Not THE most, but most of Us are. ;) She's right though, There's variety of accents in the Philippines. Some have hard accents, some too soft. Nothing wrong with it. Everyone has different accents after all. 💁‍♀️

Fiona Rider being fluent in English doesn’t mean you don’t have an accent.

I even needed to watch subtitles to understand what she said,it's a huge pronunciationdifference between Mandrin and Cantonese

Not sure if it was the video quality or because of your "Chinese accent" back then but I could not understand anything you were saying, as a native English speaker, without the subtitles. Your English has definitely improved by a long shot (kinda find your mixing of English and American accents interesting). But watching the difference between then and now really encourages me to try to learn languages like Korean and Chinese. I've always wanted to be able to truly understand what they're saying. Any tips (especially with the Chinese writing system) to make the process easier?

I'm an American living in HK and I'm learning Cantonese now. I could actually understand like 5% of what you said! Haha much better than the 0% I understood a few months ago.

Yes it is. What's the national anthem? Who's the general secretary? Exactly. Tibet is China, Manchuria is China, Xinjiang is China. Also Hong Kong people were still considered chinese even under British rule so..

Hk is under prc government no matter how much you want to distinguish these two by your preference or superiority of being colonized by England. That’s shame of you recognizing yourself as British, just like the pathetic black housekeeper guy in movie Django Unchained.

you were hilarious and cute in your childhood lolol, i couldn't even tell what you were speaking in most until you explained. i relate, when i was younger i didn't really speak english well due to speaking my native language at home and with relatives, my brothers, parents... it was only around 3rd ish grade that i did. i still have a bit of a trip up on speaking at times and a slight slur, which i hate. it's not "crisp" enough if that makes any sense.
