PIT: revove shoulder yellow and stripe TB: not sure. might re tackle this one
Argh. The TO shirt was such a good idea but small execution issues make it 80% less successful than it could have been. What's good about the original Canada Cup jerseys is the angularity of the leaf - the fact that you get hit over the head with the jagged points of the stylized, segmented leaf. In the original shirts, the leaf is situated so you can see the jagged edge. The leaf is also more slim in most versions of the OG shirt which also keeps the interesting part of the leaf in view. In this TO version, those pointy parts are wrapped around the sides, and we're mostly seeing a more amorphous blob instead of the dynamic edges. Furthermore, the old 'Canada' script did not come close to running the entire length of the leaf as we see here. I'm not saying this to be a stickler for tradition; it's formally better. When 'Toronto' runs the length of the leaf, it pulls the form of the leaf into the negative space of the shirt more and takes away from the projecting dynamic of the maple point. That is, if the scale of the lettering is the same as the leaf, they fight for attention whereas you want the attention more on the leaf. The long lettering mitigates the thrust of the leaf too much. The old Canada shirts were influenced by high modern abstraction which was the popular aesthetic at the time. Large, flat fields of colour and text. (Think of book covers in helvetica with perfect scale and colour balance.) Being such a simple, flat genre, scale and positioning are absolutely paramount. Still, good for the designer for thinking of this. I usually find TO shirts boring. I'll take a new logo design even if it's not perfect over a nice rehashing of existing logos.
Loving the inclusion of other jersey collectors in the concept video's Neil. When are we going to see the likes of yourself, Kale and Auddie design some concept jersey's and get each other to react to them?? I think between the 3 of you, you'd be able to come up with some seriously fantastic designs for all the teams.
Flyers fan here, it's ok, not overwhelmingly nice, but different. The thing to keep in mind about our jersey is you dont go crazy with patterns. Solid colors work well for us. Solid white, orange, or black with small I repeat small accents work for ours. Or like our anniversary jersey was great gold accent on the logo. I loved that one cuz it was solid white with small accents. But on here way too much orange not enough white or black.
exactamungo. i love vancouver, id say theyre my 3rd team. i love their history, the flying v, the skate, the rink, the orca WITH lettering, all perfect. i wouldnt change a thing about my design
At 6:05 the buffalo concept Jersey and 11:05 the Columbus jersey design looks like it would be better suited for Boston, since it is a American/British Revolutionary War uniform design ! 29:18 Toronto Jersey is fkn sick !
MY THOUGHTS: ANAHEIM: I think the purple should be the dominant colour, with the shoulder striping and the bottom of the sleeves and body being black instead. I also think the other striping should either be "Orange-Gold-Orange" or "Gold-Orange-Gold"..... get rid of the silver. ARIZONA: Black should be the dominant colour IMHO, with the kachina striping being brown and a cream stripe sandwiched between on the body and sleeves. BOSTON: Get rid of the shoulder yoke and leave that area black. I would also shrink the yellow and white striping on the body so that it ends at the armpits. BUFFALO: I love this concept, and this is actually my favourite jersey of the lot! I'd make a small tweak though and that is: change the shade of blue to navy. CALGARY: I would change the colour of the striping between the yellow ones on the body and sleeves to black and have the "C" and "A" be white. CAROLINA: I also don't like that he doubled the flag striping and I would cut it down to a single layer on the body, sleeves and collar. I don't like the flag striping as an elbow band either, would lower it so that it aligns with the body stripe and would change the dominant colour from maroon to black. CHICAGO: Get rid of the shoulder yoke and leave that area black. Get rid of the white outline around the logo. Also, cut the number of red stripes on the sleeves and body in half, and either have two thick ones or two thin ones. Too much striping for my taste. COLORADO: Of the jerseys so far, this one needs to be completely re-designed IMHO. I generally HATE that logo, but it works with the mountain motif at the bottom of the jersey here. However, I don't like that it's floating in space above them, and would raise the mountain graphic to be superimposed with the logo (I would have the logo mountain rise up behind those smaller ones). I would get rid of the shoulder striping, completely replace that shade of blue with and use the navy from the Alternate jersey as the dominant colour instead of maroon, and would replace the original shade of blue in the logo and mountains with maroon. Basically I would lay out the colours in a way that creates a night themed jersey. The logo and the mountains would also have grey highlight instead of white. COLUMBUS: I would replace the shoulder patches with the main logo, but only on one side. I would place the cannon logo at the top of the sash, and would lay out the word "COLUMBUS" descending diagonally on the sash. DALLAS: That jersey would look even sexier in black. Replace the swathes of green with black. DETROIT: I like the checkered flag striping, but would change it to black and white and would make the squares bigger. EDMONTON: I don't have anything different to say about this than what Kale said. FLORIDA: Not different enough from their actual jerseys for me to offer any criticism. LA: Replace those shoulder patches with their current main logo. Replace the yellow with black on the shoulders and sleeves, have solid blocks of yellow under the arms and replace the purple with grey in the elbow band. Move the numbers to where the "LA" logo is on the elbows, and replace the yellow in the crown with grey. MINNESOTA: I don't like the numbers and the "A" either and I would also ditch the yellow and cream elbow banding. The red and green gradient with the forest at the bottom of the jersey would look great on its own. LESS IS MORE. NASHVILLE: I would have blue as the dominant colour instead of black, with black in the shoulder yoke and below the yellow striping on the sleeves and body. When it comes to shoulder yokes and striping on a home jersey, I prefer Dark-on-Light over Light-on-Dark because laying out colours in the former way just holds the jersey down IMHO, while the latter is distracting. NEW JERSEY: This needs to be completely re-designed, because I just don't know what he was going for. NEW YORK ISLANDERS: Agree with Kale about the shoulder yokes. Lose them. I also like the waves, but I would replace the white with teal. NEW YORK RANGERS: This jersey is hideous. It's too cartoony and makes me think of Spider-Man. I also think the Lady Liberty logo looks better in navy. The skyline is a cool idea, but NOT in a block of colour IMHO. OTTAWA: The logo is the only thing I don't like about this concept. I don't see the appeal of an "O" as a main crest. It's too basic, and It would look better as a shoulder patch. This logo would look a lot better on this jersey concept IMHO: www.google.ca/search?q=Ottawa+Senators+rebrand&safe=off&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjfyKGr-cvqAhXSgnIEHUnnCd0Q_AUoAnoECA0QBA&biw=1880&bih=939#imgrc=11LzHOHs0hEWsM&imgdii=2qPl2ZcxFwG-SM PHILLY: That concept looks like a practice jersey, and needs to be completely re-designed. PITTSBURGH: Lose the shoulder yoke and leave the area black. Move the striping with the bridge design up on the sleeves so that it's on the same plane as the chest band and get rid of the bridge at the bottom of the jersey. SAN JOSE: I don't like the hard separation of the black and the teal, and think a gradient would work better because it would make it look like the shark is emerging upwards from the depths into the more sunlit layers of the ocean. ST. LOUIS: The numbers need work, because they ruin the entire concept. TAMPA BAY: Lightning? More like FRIGHTENING! It's hideous. I don't what he was thinking.... It reminds me of a Pajama shirt. VANCOUVER: I agree with Kale that one of the logos on the upper arm needs to go. However, I would lose the Stick-in-Rink logo on the shoulders and move the Flying Skate up into that spot. Change the colour of both the Vancouver wordmark and the Orca logo TO WHITE because the current colours clash with the "V" behind them, AND THEY NEED TO POP. VEGAS: I like the chain mail texture on the sleeves more than on the body, and I would replace the gold and grey striping on the sleeves with that chain mail texture. The body should be completely gold and grey, to evoke a tabard and I would do one half grey, the other half gold. The design as it is, looks like a bib. WASHINGTON: I'm also with Kale here. THIS IS TRASH. WINNIPEG: I'd make the jets on the sleeves smaller. I don't like that they're the same size as the one on the chest.
So you'd rather watch a video where people shared every opinion as you the exact same vs viewing the concepts in general? Why does a different opinion upset you? It's all completely subjective.
@@Post2PostProductions Of course that's not the case. All I'm asking for is a real critique. Instead all I see one ugly jersey after another get praised. They're objectively not good. If it was subjective I wouldn't have a problem.
@Seatown Fan Yeah, I do. And it's not all completely subjective. There are objective requirements. That's why looking at a jersey and judging whether it would make a good design IRL can be a lot of fun. Saying "It's all subjective" is a cop out and undermines your own understanding of how design works.
Can you ask him what on the Washington 3rd jersey he doesn't like? Because this is technically the same logo hahah, but on the 3rd there is more colours, bright colours, this is 100x better than the current one!
Dallas was really dope...I would just change the two stripes in the middle and on the sleeves to just one. My least favorite was the Isles jersey, and I'm a huge fan of the Isles. This jersey concept was all over the place; very tacky.
I understand what you're saying Jake, but how else would people be enticed to click the video? Thumbnail attractiveness is a big part of growth and bringing in a new audience on RU-vid.
I am going to be honest right now. Chest stripes are bad. They look bad. They are ugly. They are bad. The only time they work is if there is a bottom stripe to balance it out.
Im a Colorado fan and I didnt like this. The alternate logo doesnt work with the current jersey color combo. Also the mountains make it look like two jerseys meshed into one. Just awkward
