I think that Tarja's more dramatic voice fits this song very well. The song is about the Columbine mass shooting and for depicting such a tragical event a classical voice is more powerful than contemporary singing. Btw. the studio version is better.

Enjoy pretty much all the Nightwish stuff, but this earlier stuff and the shows will always have a special place in my heart. Besides of course the classic rock and metal stuff, the Finnish and Swedish scene had a massive impact on my musical development. The Gothenberg scene and CoB / Nightwish run through my music collection till this day. Plus the old Nightwish shows were awesome, not in the least as they had a tendency to drag other, smaller bands along with them across Europe. Heck that's how I got introduced to Sonata Artica and probably what got Wilska to go from roadie to vocalist, which probably led to my two favourite Finntroll albums. Ah good times!

Tuomas wrote this song about the infamous and tragic school shooting at Columbine High in Colorado on April 20, 1999. One teacher and 12 students were massacred by two students who committed suicide. An additional 24 people were injured but survived. It musically paints the picture of re-enacting the actual incident. It the second half the recorded voice is saying what some of the killers are reported to have said to their victims before they killed them. In the Buenos Aries 2018 show, Marko does these lyrical pieces. It is also recorded much better. Great job as usual Chase. Hope you have a "Damn Good Day"! 😊🎶🎶🎶🤘🤘🤘✌

@@Tommy-5684 From the Nightwish website: The Kinslayer On April 20th, 1999 two teenagers, Eric Harris & Dylan Klebold went to Columbine High School, in Colorado with handmade bombs and shotguns, with intention to kill as many of their schoolmates as possible. As they entered the school, they started shooting and throwing bombs everywhere, killing 9 boys (9 blue ones), 4 girls (4 pink ones) and finally themselves (2 black ones). This was carefully planned for over a year, and these guys were determined to kill also themselves afterwards. They had no real motive. They made a videotape in the morning just before the massacre where they said: "We are going to kill you all. You have been giving us shit for years. We want to say our sorry for our parents; there's nothing you could have done. This is something we must do. We're sorry; we didn't like life very much..." The event is something I will never understand. If something as horrible as this can happen in this world, there's no sense, no truth to cling to anymore. I find there's a great deal of symbolism hidden in this happening. The dialogue in the middle of the song quotes the actual phrases between the killers and their schoolmates during the shooting. (According to those who survived)"

Damn you youtube, why you not let me know about this video earlier! Anyway, I am so glad you decided to react to this super early version of Nightwish before Tarja started to save her voice live. Since pretty much no one had been doing what she is doing before them, she soon noticed that singing with a metal band on small stages with a classical technique is very hard and damaging to voice, since she can't properly hear and feel her own voice due to the loudness of the rest of the band. She had to come up with new technique that would help her sing close enough without her losing her voice by accident. While it was more stable and healthy voice, however, I personally feel, she didn't quite sound as good when she did that One thing to note however, is that video isn't 100% synced when it was cut and edited. There are a few points where you can see them playing/singing different part to where the song was at. This isn't lipsync (I don't think) but small mistake in editing

Well, I like every Nightwish album and era, but I'm especially attached to Oceanborn and Wishmaster cause that is when I discovered them, it was something completely new and different, I adored this bombastic style in the combination with Tarja's operatic voice, it was so raw and fresh. But realistically golden era of Nightwish never ended, even Anette years were great :) Marco leaving is a huge blow, it will be interesting to see how it continues and if they can maintain this high. Tarja's departure looked like the end of the world but it wasn't in the end. The only true irreplaceable member of Nightwish is Tuomas

@@AleksandarGospic Yeah, I agree, the golden age of Nightwish never really ended, I was partially just joking around a bit. And do not get me wrong, I like old Nightwish, even though I have only really known and liked them for a little over a year now. I do mostly prefer old Nightwish in studio over old Nightwish live though. Yeah, Marco leaving does not have to mean the end of Nightwish, but the fact that Tuomas said a few years ago that he can not take an other lineup change does worry me.

I used to think the line "Good wombs hath borne bad sons" was "Good homes have warm back sides" Doesn't help after watching the misheard lyrics for Wishmaster video 😂🤣

3 Years ago Nightwish were playing in MY CITY, not somewhere around where i'd have to travel for 8 hours or so, my actual city... 10 mins from home... and i missed the show because i couldn't get out of work. This is the only thing in my life regret dearly, the one thing that would never forgive myself. I missed on a lot of opportunities to achieve great success, but missing on a Nightwish show is the single thing i regret and wish to be able to turn back time to correct it. So guys, in the future if there is an opportunity for you to see them live, don't miss it. You will regret it till the end of your life. Really hope Marko will be able resolve his difficulties and come back to keep on giving us that epic experience.

Omg I cannot WAIT for this one! Lyrics are important here, the song is about the Columbine Massacre.

Don’t know if anyone has made this suggestion, but you should do a livestream reaction of a full Nightwish concert sometime.

It's hard to analyze old school nightwish compared to new one because it was basically stories of high fantasy :D loved it.

Kinslayer will forever be my personal introduction to the world of Nightwish. Sometime in the early 2000s, like a lot of kids my age back then, I was playing counterstrike. This song was used, at a minimum, in any other frag montage back then. It just sounded so different and really sent me down the rabbit hole that is Nightwish back then. Online gaming left my life (or changed focus), but Nightwish sure as hell stayed with me.

From the Nightwish website: The Kinslayer On April 20th, 1999 two teenagers, Eric Harris & Dylan Klebold went to Columbine High School, in Colorado with handmade bombs and shotguns, with intention to kill as many of their schoolmates as possible.

Please do "Words darker than their wings" from Alter Bridge at the Royal Albert Hall. It is one of the best live version of a song I´ve ever heard. The singer goes all the way and more. You won´t regret it.
