We... had purple glue sticks when I went to kindergarten. We called them “magic glue” and everyone used it. We were seven. No one, NO ONE, cared. We all just thought it was super cool that our glue was purple!
Yeah some companies make purple glue I think so that kids can see what they’re glueing. I don’t think they were gendered though. And yeah, you were special if you managed to get the purple glue stick.
"Girl's hand tools. Because how would they be able to use them if they weren't purple and for women?" Hahaha. I love how much you both enjoyed making this video. Education can be fun.🙂
I was checking out a friend's "women's" power tool set once and was instantly offended for women's sake. It was really just a drill and a flashlight that were about as expensive as a set I got that also included a circular saw, but the drill was wimpy af. They tried to defend it by saying it was lighter, the next time we were at my apartment I handed them my drill and their eyes went wide when they realized it wasn't true. I'm ok with sets being marketed to women as some women would rather have pink stuff, but that's one area I'll say the pink tax exists, and it's just wrong. Make a pink set that actually holds up and I'll buy it as my next set just to support the company.
As someone who works in a bicycling store, i hate that products like helmets are assigned to "male" and "female" because its literally just related to head size. Yes, some men have larger heads than others but i have also seen women with massive sculls that just cant fit a "womens" sized helmet, and men with heads so small they barely fit the smallest size we carry. Gendered things are so stupid. We're all human here
The cashier at the store: “Please stop, you can’t do this. Those are for men and those are for women, you can’t have both!” Me, who just really likes randomly mixed nuts: “I have woman AND man money. Now ring up my N U T S.”
One time at a drug store, my family bought ear plugs and they were called "women's ear plugs" and they were pink. It's now a massive joke in our family because it's just so ridiculous
Damn, these stories hit hard. When I was 4, I accidentally found a gaming manual for boys. Just that brief exposure was enough to make me like girls. I’ll never be able to wear a dress again...
When it comes to hand-tools, I do need the women's size because they fit more comfortably than the same tool sized for men. It's that same reason there are women's basketballs, because they were originally designed to be optimal for male hands, so smaller ones had to be made to be optimal for women's hands. The purple tools are unnecessary, but the sizing helps.
@@gloriamontgomery6900 If women with larger hands can comfortably use the men's sizing, power to y'all. Me and my baby hands will have to stick to the purple sheers, I guess.
Dang, but why don't they just label them by, well, size? That'll make it easier to get the right size too. You don't have to just hope it's the right size because it says "male" or "female" on it.
@@PulmaShar3525 Oh, his full name is Eijirou Kirishima! He's a student at UA High School. He's super obsessed with "being manly" so that's why we thought of him!
Honestly, the most ridiculous thing was the gendered LGBT bracelet. It’s literally such a huge contradiction! How can you advertise this towards the people who want gender roles to be destroyed the most? Also, I so loved your banter with Shaaba! Your relationship is amazing and this video cracked me up.
@@anias4395 That's what I thought at first too, but you'd think they of all people would know better than to gender a product just because of its size, and you could probably achieve the same results by listing small/medium/large
My mother got me the “man cave where manly men do manly things” sign for my room so that everything i do in there will be manly. Sleeping = manly Painting my nails = manly Watching Jammidodger at 2am = manly
This is random but I remember hearing from Dan Formosa - a professional design consultant that because most products are designed by men with men in mind. Women are more likely to have injuries because of those products, say in a gym or using simple household objects. So he started a company called 4b and it basically encourages and helps support woman in the design field so that products can be overall more efficient and user friendly. I think it is amazing and worth sharing so 👍
I hate when I'm trying to buy chokers or necklaces of some sort online and the title is like "feminine spiked necklace for women and girls, girly necklaces" ..Im just a goth guy tryina live my life :( why does Amazon gotta come after me like that
Even tho I’m not male I love chokers and has soon has I see “just for girl” or “girly” on a brand/thing they use to tell u what the product is called even if I love it I’m just like nope nope nope.
I'm a dude and I would totally choose the purple hand tools over the boring normal colours. But then again at that price they prob be super crap quality and wouldn't last too long.......
lol ima just point this out- the prit glue “just 4 girls” has the lesbian flag on it, so basically we have a nb, lesbian and glue stick supporting company
John Wick only if there aren’t any differences in vitamin needs between males and females bodies (excluding reproductive health). I haven’t done my research so I don’t know. But you do have to admit a lot of things are stupidly gendered for no reason other than to sale stereotypes of masculinity and femininity.
The most randomly gendered thing I remember from my childhood was the Yorkie chocolate bar back when it said “not for girls” So, at the tender age of like 4, I made it my favourite chocolate bar out of pure unfiltered spite. I remember I’d pick it up and it slap it down on the counter with defiance in my eyes, daring the cashiers (who gave zero shits about a kid buying chocolate) to tell me it’s for boys. Young me really thought I was doing something by eating Yorkies 😂
Haha same. I ended up coming out as nonbinary so my weird rebellious obsession with them made way more sense in hindsight. Although I recently looked back at the ad campaign and its so much worse than I remember it being as a kid
That and McCoys crisps which ran an absolutely awful ad campaign about a man doing something vaguely feminine while eating McCoy’s and he gets sucked into the sky because “McCoy’s isn’t for women”. At the time I thought it was stupid because they’re fucking crisps oh my god.
Cis people: ugh all the transgenders are so focused on gender! Also cis people: my daughter needs to use pink glue because otherwise she'll die also have you seen that manly blue dog biscuit for my manly puppy? Edit: cishets😂
On the subject of masks “for men”: At the beginning of the pandemic I was part of a fb group for people making masks. Many of these people were experienced sewers with large fabric stashes which they were turning into masks to donate to hospitals with absolutely amazing speed, in boggling quantities! As you might imagine, a long-time sewer will have an embarrassingly large stash of fabrics they bought because they were pretty, and then never actually got around to using, so a lot of these masks were being made in these pretty, “girly”, impulse-buy fabrics. And so, inevitably, a couple people in the group decided their job was to start posting reminders to everyone to make sure to use lots of manly fabrics as well, because there were men working in the hospitals, and *they need masks too*! Obviously hospitals begging random sewing groups for emergency PPE are gonna be full of men too picky to wear some flowers on their faces. And that’s a preference we just need to respect. 🙄
I was involved in a similar make all the masks effort and there were similar calls for non hyper feminine coded fabrics. I mean, I get it. A lot of men don’t want to wear florals or whatever, and they’ve been raised in a society which enforces that. Everyone was so worried and stressed and hospitals are an emotionally rigorous place to work in the best of times. I don’t think finding “gender neutral” fabrics for masks to send to hospitals was a big ask given the circumstances. I cut up some old sheets and used those (plain white and blue fabric) as the outside, with the floral or whatever as the lining for a bunch of masks so anyone could wear them without pausing to think “oh no, is society going to judge me for this piece of fabric on my face?” Sure, I’d love if we could all wear whatever we like, and if colors and patterns weren’t gendered but we aren’t in that world yet, and a global pandemic is not the time to force people who feel they have to publicly express a masculine identity to reflect and reconsider that.
As an adult man, I'd definitely buy that rainbow watch. Ironically, the light colors against a white background actually makes it more difficult to read the time.
The other day my family was talking abt my dad building a man cave in our basement and he said it’s not a gendered cave it’s just a cave and I was like 🥳 (my whole fam is cis (as far as I know) but he’s so awesome I love it)
"the manly cave where manly men do manly things" sign inspired me, an enby called kryss (like the word abyss), to put a sign on my door that says "the kryss abyss, where abyss do kryss things" because it's both a pun and a nonsensical sentence, which are both things that usually infuriate people, just like how the fact that nonbinary people exist usually infuriates the cishets™
At my school there’s gendered hand sanitizer and everyone has to get some when you get back from lunch, well me being the pissed non binary person that I am, I just use both then get yelled at for using both and I’ve said to countless teachers “Ether I use both bottles or none at all or you STOP LABELLING DAMN HAND SANITIZER BOTTLES”

The funny thing about being Bigender Is that when you see a "Boys only" or a "Girls only" thing it just doesn't apply to you because you identify as both
This! As a bit of a handywoman, I can attest that most of modern tools with those ergonomic handles are actually harder for me to use than the older plain-handle equivalent tools. And a spot on just calling them for "smaller hands/grip", as my boyfriend has quite small hands for a cis-man and finds those ergonomic handles as bothersome as I do.
Yep, same. I have small hands, so my set of tools is almost identical to the one in the video - this is one case where gendering actually has a function, though it's based on statistical averages and totally could have been labeled "small grip". It's way safer to work with tools which are the correct size and can be held securely, so I'm grateful that the option exists -unlike the rest, my glue stick and pens do not need to be changed in any way from my male partner's.
I'm a girl and my hands are HUGE. So are my feet. And now that I think of it... I'm pretty tall in general. If I was a guy I'd probably be a hero amongst my friends. Now I'm just awkward. Why is the world like this??? *sobs*
My mom is literally building our home while my dad is inside cooking. So i just want to thank the companies making this possible by selling tools for my mom and pans for my dad
I'm writing a speech for english class, and I chose to write it on why men can/should wear pink (it was a certain selection to choose from, this is not my wording). I'm also writing in more "why is this stuff gendered" into it, partially inspired by these videos of yours! Just wanted to share 😊💛
I was listening to the radio and then suddenly an ad pops up: "[website name], the new online casino, now also for women", and I was literally speechless; I stopped in the middle of the sidewalk and looked around suspiciously like _Is this real? Did I accidentally enter the matrix?_
Kinda related- I was listening to the radio and they were reading this story sent in by a listener who mentioned their brother’s bf and one of the radio hosts literally calls him a gay slur. I was really stunned. I can’t believe this still happens in 2020. And from a public figure, smh. No need to say I don’t listen to that radio station anymore..
Could it be that (and I'm really struggling to find a reason) they have signed to create a safe space for women free from heckling or bias? I have never online gambled so I wouldn't know if this happens but maybe??
I remember when I saw my uncle had a "man cave" where he would play darts, pool and go on his pc. I said to my dad "I want a man cave!!" and he said, "You can't you're a girl" (i was like 8) that was the moment I hated gender stereotypes. I'm now 14 and Bigender and I still hate gender stereotypes!
I hope you get your man cave at some point if you still want one.:) I have wanted a garage for tinkering, but it's impossible while living in a condo. We can't afford a house, and don't really want one either, because having a house seems more like a lifestyle than just a place to live. But now I have finally realized what the balcony is for.x) Currently I have two projects drying up there, and one more waiting to be painted. The balcony has kind of like windows to make it protected from the rain and snow. Sorry, I don't know what they're called in English.;) Anyway it's my tinkering space that doubles as a place to relax and enjoy a bit of fresh air.
To be honest, I think that’s all AFABs experience growing up. I want to do x but because I’m a girl I feel like I can’t/it’s not allowed etc. Growing up I really really wanted to be a professional footballer, I used to be so annoyed that it would never happen, or at least I wouldn’t have the same success as males. Weirdly, two girls I grew up with in a tiny village in north east England went on to become professional footballers, one now plays for England and is on loads of ad campaigns and stuff. So maybe I could have. Either way, it’s rubbish growing up thinking you can’t do something because of your gender.
Lmao I read the thumbnail as "Gender Product Reveal" like each product is having a gender reveal surprise from their gendered marketing and honestly it's super fitting.
@@trekadouble757 often though things for men like shoes and razors are better made than the same things for women. Women are advertised to more that they need to keep up with new fast fashion and a million skincare things to stay young and desirable. Not saying this doesn't increasingly apply to men but women are consistently sold the same or worse for higher prices.
@@trekadouble757 the products for men are same or a bit better in quality than women's and there's this sexist atmosphere around the woman's product... Either a attitude "women don't really need to have this" or "Women are delicate, so their products should be too" which are both wrong...and also, they know women usually need razor to shave their private parts too.. it's just so unfair that men's razor usually cost less when they have almost same purpose...if there's no difference in quality, there shouldn't be discrimination in pricing
@@trekadouble757 Because I've seen it. I'm not saying that every product is like that, but I've seen razors that had the exact same mold, same care strip thingy (don't know what it's called), no difference *at all* other than one is pink and the other black and marketed as women's/men's. The pink ones were 5/package, the black ones 10/package. The pink ones cost more. Literally less product for more money. (Not to mention that even if razors cost the same, women would still pay more since they are expected to shave more, but that's a different topic entirely.) Also earplugs. I've seen some silicone ones advertised as being noise cancelling, waterproof, etc etc. They were transparent. Then there were pink ones, "for women". Advertised as being pink. They were smaller and cost more. Women's deodorant is utterly useless while often costing more. Yes, men's products and women's products might have different ingredients or smell different. But that is no reason to make women's products more expensive. They do it because they can.
My mother pointlessly genders stuff all of the time My sister and I are both pregnant at the same time, mum bought some dungarees for sisters baby (a boy) they arrived and she said "he can't wear them they're girls dungarees!" Why are they girls? You may be asking They're denim with giraffes on... Pretty neutral right? The giraffes have hearts on instead of spots... Love hearts are gendered now folks... Boys can't have hearts on anything 🤦♀️
My aunt is having a baby, and my mom and I keep an eye out for baby clothes. We saw the cutest little pajamas, they were blue and had bunnies, but the cuffs were pink. So if you’re neither male nor female, that means you’re not allowed to use hand sanitizer. To all my fellow enbys: if you ever use hand sanitizer, you will probably spontaneously combust Edited: also might I add that the back of the Pom-Bears poster thing looks like the Bi flag? Just saying
according to my research in Hand Sanitizer Gender Science, if you mix the mens and womens together, they cancel each other out and you can use them. but you HAVE to make sure its a perfect 50/50 mix, otherwise youll still explode
I remember once when I went to school and the other kids made fun of me because I had a wallet "for girls". Just because of the cute dog pin on it. Even then I realized how stupid that reaction was.
The sad thing is- my stepdad is the one that would gender the products. “Oh you dont want that {insert my stepbro’s name}. it’s for girls.” “Dont watch that! That’s a *girls* TV show.” He’s talking about my brother tryna watch Tokyo ghoul with me. Or any anime.
wow, of all the anime he could have said was a "girls'" anime, he had to pick Tokyo Ghoul. I think by stereotypical standards, that's got to be one of the least "girly" anime out there. You should show him Madoka Magica.
lol my stepmum told my half brother that he shouldnt watch a show he liked bc one of the main three characters was a girl also bc I who was seen as a girl then was watching it with him and enjoying it also Tokyo Ghoul lmao
I remember being angered beyond words when I was little, because I was and am still obsessed with Pokemon- I was clothing shopping with my mom and I saw that the pokemon shirts were in the boys section- But there were no Pokemon shirts in the girls section. And I was like “this is stupid, I am a girl and I like Pokemon” I was so angry and I was like eight.
There are a lot more Pokemon products for boys and girls in Japan, even if sometimes the girl products might be more stereotypically girly but they acknowledge Pokemon are enjoyed by everyone, I don't understand why the Western Pokemon marketing always only targets boys, they also did the same with Yokai Watch and way worse honestly, in Japan you can buy merchandise of the female characters but not in the West :/
@@ihavea1tbshotahentaifolder431 Honestly, it annoys me how pink and limited girl toy sections (and clothes) are. It's like only dolls and pink/purple things allowed. I'd add legos, beauty/crafting sets and plush toys to the list, but they're mostly pink/purple anyway so that's redundant.
I used ro want to buy shirts from the boys secrion because i liked pokemon and other "boy" stuff and didn't like flowers, and princesses, and butterflies, and glitter, and pink, etc. etc.
@@butterskywalker8785 Maybe. Either let them choose when they get older or call them girls and boys, but minimize the importance of the differences. Let it be just a descriptor of how they're born not everything they're supposed to be and like. I was a nerdy tomboy and even though I've always identified as a girl, I've never felt a kinship with the color pink or most girly toys or frilly clothes. Just don't gender kid things, not to the degree they do now. Let the toys be sold together, in all colors. So if a girl wants a superhero lego set or a boy wants a cooking set, they don't have to feel conscious just for going to the "wrong" part of the store. Let them freely explore and be kids.

Fun fact: if you google search pictures for clocks or watches, almost all of them will say the time “10:10” because for some reason that is the most aesthetically pleasing time to read on an analog clock/watch, and therefore the best time to put on them for an advert
i think its usually around "10:08" or "10:10" on analogue clocks because its supposed to be like arms going upwards so its supposed to seem happy if you get what i mean? like when children draw stickpeople, the arms typically go upwards when its smiling. anyway, i hope you have a good day and i hope i didn't bother you with a notification or anything :)
A lot of companies make a pink version of their product, label it as a girl's or women's thing, and sell it for a higher price. It's called the Pink Tax and it screws women over even more because we're generally paid less than men too.

People who are assigned female at birth do tend to have smaller hands, hence you could legitimately make tools to fit said hands better (since all tools are designed for the average male at birth hand). They should just be labelled with different sizes though, just like gloves are.
