This song deserves your reaction. It is a beautiful song but with Bobby singing, it is transcendent. No one else has ever done it so well and hundreds have tried. If a piece of music can become immortal, this is surely one. The greatest love song of its era and certainly of my lifetime which began in 1950. Truly unforgettable.

My dear young Lady, your smile says it all. I've seen that same smile on women's faces for 50 years when they hear this for the first time. No one sings this song like Bobby Hatfield, no body. My Wife and I danced to this song at our wedding, and we danced to it again on our 50th Wedding anniversary. It is a timeless classic that never ceases to amaze everyone who hears it.

Bobby Hatfield live performance . The Andy Williams Show- Episode #4.5 Episode aired Oct 25, 1965 Robert Lee Hatfield (August 10, 1940 - November 5, 2003) Bobby Hatfield, who had a higher counter tenor voice to Bill Medley’s, William Thomas Medley (born September 19, 1940) baritone, sang lead on this track. It was his idea to record it, since Medley and Hatfield were each allowed to choose a song to sing as a solo vocalist on their albums. As Medley tells it, Hatfield knew the song well, and was a big fan of the Roy Hamilton and Al Hibbler versions of the song. *In Nov. 2003 Hatfield died of a heart attack at age 63. The Righteous Brothers version was a huge hit, but it was recorded with far more modest expectations. Phil Spector considered it album filler and released it as a B-side. The single had "Unchained Melody," with no producer credit on the label, as the flip to Gerry Goffin and Carole King's "Hung on You," but many DJs preferred "Unchained Melody" and played that one instead. This infuriated Spector, who subsequently left no doubt (actually calling DJs telling them to play “Hung On You” not “Unchained Melody “)as to which side of a Philles single was the A-side. * The famous climax of this song where Bobby Hatfield sings the high "I need your love" line wasn't how the song was written. In an interview with Bill Medley, he explained that Hatfield did two takes of the song, then left. He would often reconsider his performance and come back later to change it, and that's what he did on this track, returning to ask Medley if he could make an edit. This was no easy task, since with a maximum of four tracks to work with, you had to record over part of the original take, but Medley accommodated and Hatfield delivered that soaring vocal line. Said Medley: "I punched that in and he left. He said, 'No, I can do it better.' And I said, 'No, you can't.' [Laughs] And I think it's a big part of that song." * This was released on Philles Records, Phil Spector's label. Spector, known for his "Wall Of Sound" technique, did not produce this - Bill Medley did. In a 2007 statement to the Forgotten Hits newsletter, Medley said: "You have to remember that I was producing our stuff before Phil Spector... I mean I produced 'Little Latin Lupe Lu,' 'My Babe' and all that stuff. Then when we went with Phil, Phil asked me if I would produce the albums because it was too time consuming for him to produce the entire albums. So he was going to do the singles and I would do the album. And so that's how that happened and that's how I produced 'Unchained Melody,' which Phil Spector apparently now takes credit for. He can have the credit. And I'm not a producer. I know how to produce. But it's obviously not a Spector production. 'Unchained Melody' was never intended to be the single... it was produced to be on the album. It was put on the B side of a Phil Spector single 'Hung On You' and the minute it was released 'Unchained Melody' just went through the roof." Hatfield’s rendition of “Unchained Melody” although not the original, is the ‘gold standard’.

Stella your reaction is natural as Bobby had a way of touching hearts and souls with his entrancing and captivating delivery. He packs a punch in every performance/song. This performance was even better than the studio cut released on the B side of a 45 which Bill produced and charted twice thanks to the movie Ghost. RIP Bobby Hatfield (1940-2003) you are missed

I need your love I need your love God speed your love to me Lonely rivers flow To the sea, to the sea To the open arms of the sea, yeah Lonely rivers sigh "Wait for me, wait for me" I'll be coming home, wait for me Woah, my love, my darling I've hungered, hungered for your touch A long, lonely time And time goes by so slowly And time can do so much Are you still mine? What a beautiful man, Bobby Hatfield, with a god given voice. This performance was live in 1965 on Andy Williams show, no autotune, just natural. Bobby was blessed with such a voice, no music lessons. He was considered a tenor/counter tenor. We have been blessed to still have his recordings. If you would check out other songs, look see at ebb tide, my prayer, his version of summertime. No worry 👧, no one then and now could compare with his vocal range, actually on exception listen to Ray Hamilton. Ray did this song in 1955, he and bobby do have similiar range of voice. Bobby is dearly missed after all this time, he is still singing in the heavenly choir.

“Unchained Melody” is a 1955 song with music by Alex North and lyrics by Hy Zaret. North wrote the music as a theme for the little-known prison film Unchained (January 1955), hence the song title. •Though many think vocalist Bobby Hatfield sang in falsetto (he didn't) - he sang in a pure tenor on many Righteous Brothers tracks (with Bill Medley) & will always be remembered for his solo turn on their classic “Unchained Melody.” •They each had the vocal talent to perform as soloists. Medley sang the low parts with his bass-baritone voice, with Hatfield taking the higher-register vocals with his tenor. His voice reached the register of a countertenor.

Thanks for the uninterrupted redo. Watching your reactions is more than enough to know how you feel. I teared up right along with you. This song is so poignant and passionate. Knowing the context makes it even more poignant. The context is about a prisoner who misses his wife's touch and love and is in great anxiety over whether time, which can do so much, has eroded her love for him (Are you still mine? I'll be coming home, wait for me, wait for me). The song is from a 1950s movie, Unchained, about this man (he sings it in the movie).

Its funny, its probably the most misinterpreted song by most people. The song first appeared in a 1955 movie called 'Unchained' in which an inmate contemplating escaping or doing his time, sat on a bed in a dorm sang part of the lyrics to his fellow inmates. Basically, a guy missing his girl and wondering if she will still be there by the time he is freed. Interestingly, the song was sung by Harry Belafonte at the oscars in 1956. Other versions were sung during the 50's by artists such as Liberace and Perry Como. It would be some 9yrs later that it was released by the Righteous Bros on the 'B' side of a single as it was considered a 'throw away'. The Righteous Bros had agreed to do 1 solo track per album, Bill Medley originally wanted to sing it, so they tossed a coin and Bob Hatfield ended up singing it.
