Huge LOTR nerd here. I would recommend reading the Hobbit in book form, it's a very quick read. For me, it was far better listening to LOTR through the audio-books. Tolkien has an amazing way with words, but i feel it's easier to understand the inflections and pronunciations through audiobooks - i feel it also lets me visualize comparisons between the books and films easier if i'm not focusing on the text as much. The Hobbit doesn't have much of this same issue because it was basically a bedtime story put to text. The hobbit movies were good, but i think they would've been far better as a 2-movie set rather than 3. And that's coming from someone who doesn't mind *most* of the added appendix content to the films. Currently listening to the Silmarillion narrated by Andy Serkis and that is absolute magic. If you read the hobbit and listen to LOTR, I'd highly recommend listening to the Silmarillion after. It's a waterfall of character names, but it is so enrapturing. Very jealous of the NZ trip. I am long overdue to go there.

I agree that an adaptation can be better than a book. One example is “The Summer I Turned Pretty” show. I’ve read all three books and they were pretty okay (first book was a 3.5/5, second was a 4/5, and the third was a 3/5), and I’m on the second to last episode of season 1 now. Even though the show has its issues (most of which are carried over from the book) and it’s still not the best, I find the show better because the writing of the characters and the development of the plot (AKA actually giving it a plot), and the summer vibes were much better than that of the book. The actors all nail their roles too, which makes it extra good. I’m interested to see how they’ll do season 3 because of how unhinged, messy, and full of questionable plot decisions the third book is, so we’ll see how that goes.

I mean, I suppose movie adaptations can be "better" than books, or rather a nice expansion of the book if it's down right. The sad reality is that they often screw up movies and disrespect the book. Also, I liked the different physical background/perspective and sitting on the couch, it was a fresh touch to have every now and then and I felt like I was in a book club meeting.😅

Hello i wish you would read "The Book Thief" it is my favorite standalone novel . It is set in rhe holocaust and i just love the way zuzak has written and described its scenes . It is a beautiful book with a ton of spoilers about its plot from starting. But i think you will enjoy it.its my favourite standalone novel Hope you read and enjoy it someday

I've read all of sherlock stories and I'm doing the same now with agatha's books and, even so they are almost double of sh and I'm only on agatha's number 5, I agree, they are much better, especially in the mystery part but sherlock the character is more compelling so far, don't know if I'll still feel the same after reading all of poirot's tough
