Reacting to the Internet's WORST Dog Fights 

my dog GSD got attacked by another one who was off leash the owner just stood thier and did nothing to stop it luck enough i had my dad and sister thier to help me grab the other GSD she had a cut on her leg and on her chest area where the other GSD grabbed was luck that it wasnt her neck or even worse got both of her pups that i had with me.

I am so sorry that happened to you and your dog. A few years ago when I had a Pit Bull, who I loved and was a loyal member of the family, but I was unaware of Garrett and properly training any dog (especially a Pit Bull). We just returned from a trip with our three dogs, and I had a personal emergency to attend to. I asked my wife to leash Cane (our Pit Bull, and I was smart enough to know a harness was insufficient) and take him in. She opened the door before leashing him and he ran over to a neighbor's yard where another male Pit Bull was attached to a chain and attacked him. I forgot about my emergency and rushed to intervene. Long story short, because of no leash, after beating my dog in the head to make him let go because he was twisting the collar of the other dog and he was seconds from asphyxiation, I pryed his jaws off of the collar and saved his life. The other Pit Bull was actually a passive dog because of the abuse he suffered before my neighbor adopted him. But, I understand how quickly circumstances can change and I am glad I was able to save him because he did not deserve to die because he was minding his own business.

You have every right to do whatever you have to do to protect your dog!!!! I hope you and your service dog are ok.

i used to walk my older (8 now) rottie/lab throughout the city without a leash on and never had any problems, i moved to the countryside, 1st walk we are attacked by small terrier, from that moment on she hates not only small dogs, but anything below a certain size, she is still good with medium size and above and we have no issues but when she spots smaller animals, she goes into prey drive. I had to resort to walking her on a leash after that. I have another rottie lab, she is 2 and she has the exact opposite problem, she cannot stand big things, like cars trucks etc and she always makes a point of letting it well known to the whole neighbourhood about it

@@weedhigh2564 try to desensitized them. Starting in a controlled environment introduced them to what they react to. Make sure they are secure and calm. Redirect them as soon as they start to react at all. That should help a bit. You can also take them to a training program.

@@spykethespider5070 i am trying to solve the youngers problem with cars at the moment and i dont even think i can turn off the prey mode the older gets into, maybe i could get some results in a controlled environment but that usually fails when put into practice as i cannot provide her enough of diversity of animals to get her to leave them all be, i could get her off squirrels but rabbits and cats would still be on the menu, so to speak. And i am a trainer myself, not a real pro yet but im getting there. Im getting the degree and all that cuz i want to open a shelter for dogs that would be problematic to otherwise rehome, you know big burly dogs that lost their owners suddenly and now nobody wants to take care of them because now they are agressive and stuff,i have no quarrel with wrestling a big dog if need be, im big and burly myself and i wrestle with 2 rotties at once for fun so a job doing that sounds pretty neat to me :D

@@MUNTA-e5e if you've never been in the situation then you have nothing to say about a choke off. It sure beats the hell out of letting them get mauled to death! And besides that prying their jaws open with something can break their teeth and caused damage to their jaw structure whereas a choke off does no damage when done properly it is just to get them to release their bite and then you let go it allows everyone to be safely separated and it is actually the least invasive.

I do think it is sad that some people seems like that they are in denial on anything in general like dogs attacking humans and other animals or their own kids committing a crime

I really do think required owner classes would be good. Neither of my parents had dogs growing up so they bought a puppy in a parking lot when I was young honestly believing they were doing a good deed and helping a man find homes for an unexpected litter. Turns out the puppy was a heeler and we were not prepared. It's not malicious, it's honest ignorance.

⁠@Johnny Bravo Pit isn’t a breed neither is Pitbull it’s an umbrella term used to describe different breeds of dogs such as (American Bully, American Pitbull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, American Bulldog, etc) Each of those have their own temperament and breed traits. In the golden retriever fight clip the dog called “Pitbull” was in prey drive mode. That’s what so many people don’t understand, none of them are evil dogs but they do have prey drive some more than others. The APBT is a catch dog, bred to hunt boars and hogs. And when their owner doesn’t give them a proper outlet or train them correctly you get fights like that. Too many people own these dogs and have no idea what they’re doing. They aren’t “nanny dogs” and they aren’t your “fur babies” these are dogs bred with a specific purpose that require lots of PROPER training (not the positive only BS) and socialization. They can be amazing dogs or complete nightmares it all depends on the owner.

In my head is idea that should be applied around the world you want to have dog you must have license - period. Bigger dog more expensive license = proper training etc = with knowledge loads of people won't get dog that they are not capable to handle

@@shlimey04 I am a woman and I am one-hundred-per-cent fully capable of keeping all four of my pitbulls under control and although I do have one easy one I have real dogs that have real prey drive and real instincts and they go hard. But as long as I do the work of working with them in those states of high drive and building them up to be obedient in that then we have a dog that can be worked with and managed. Sometimes I have to put a little grumble in my voice and and show them that I am stronger than them! You never have to physically do anything to a dog to show them that you are stronger it is all in the way that you present and what energy you are projecting. And your dogs may know that you're the leader every single day but you have an off-day they are going to pick up on it and take control so you can't have an off-day. so don't put an umbrella under that category of all women because there's some of us that are going to do whatever is necessary to have a balanced pack. I'm not scared to get in there and get hurt in the process. Now granted this did not come naturally to me as I'm not a type a personality. I had to learn some very hard lessons along with my first few dogs in order to have the confidence with my dogs that I needed to be assertive. but it is definitely something that we can do and it really just takes an open mind and a willingness to dedicate yourself to doing whatever it is that they need despite what it is that you want to do or may not want to do. Despite how fearful you might be in certain circumstances, your dog always has to have confidence that you can protect yourself and not only yourself but you can protect them. I don't think a lot of women come by this naturally but once you have been in a situation with a large powerful dog and you have felt the helplessness that comes along with that situation you don't ever want to be in it again and you do what's necessary to handle business. I for one don't like being helpless and I don't want to watch one of my dogs either kill a dog or be killed themselves as I have watched one of my dogs kill another dog many years ago and it was not cool at all! Don't get me wrong I will totally let my dogs dig into that prey drive and Hunt outside for appropriate prey but not somebody's Pet. I have dogs that I don't introduced to outside dogs because I'm not going to risk putting them in a situation to fail but I also have dogs that I can introduce to any dog and I can have full confidence that I know what I'm looking at and I'm paying attention to make sure that anything happens I'm on top of it before it can turn into a bad situation.

I can imagine it can be a quite shocking sight to see that happening right in front of you, so maybe IF it’s a first time, they might freeze and not know what to do. However, a full-on bite like in the last video is not a first attack for that dog, that behavior is usual and practiced for sure. And in that case, it’s incredibly stupid and irresponsible to not even research what to do if that happens.

Harnesses are best for little dogs like Chihuahuas because a collar and leash can cause deadly injury to their fragile necks. I use a harness on my GSD to pack stuff when we're hiking, but not with a leash. attached.

Only time i use a harness is to out my dog in the car so he doesn’t fly through the window lmao

They can be good if you have a dog with a fragile neck or neck injury. You do still need to be able to control your dog though, so it's more of a problem on bigger, stronger dogs.

I agree with you about this so much! I've seen video of people being out of their wits with their agressive dog...and the proffessional who came to help them straight out told them...this dog is mixture of something and herding breed...he acts out because he has tons of energy and he is bored! And they took him to farm...and he started herding cattle as pro! Absolutely loved it! ...And I was so sad that they didn't find him new home on farm and instead kept him in their small place... With this type of dog if you want to keep him, you better start thinking about buying a farm! And from dog to cat...you need to train them and be the top dog. Be the alpha, be the one in charge...they need to know boundaries and you need to be able to comunicate with them in way they understand. And even the small breeds of dogs need discipline! It's not cute when small dogs jumps all over your visitors and tries to lick their nostrils and their lips. It's damn gross. Personally I don't get people who don't put collar upon their dogs. I get that harness is probably better choice for car ride, but elsewhere? Not really. I had been walking my sister's french bulldog while she was on holiday for a week and the harness was quickly abandoned! Because if you'd pull on harness, it was as he didn't even feel it! While with collar, instant reaction. But even when I walked him on harness, he still had collar on. I'd not leave house with him without his collar, such thought never even crossed my mind.. Like what if your dog gets spooked and runs off? Tag with phone number on dog's collar is easiest way to get the animal back home! After New Years few years ago a large Bernardine lady wandered in front of our house. We thought it was our neighbours three houses down because they have that breed...but it wasn't theirs. And it turned out dog was from village next to ours...run off during fireworks day before and couldn't find way home. She was really lovely and so happy when we finally tracked down her owner and he came to get her. On New Year no vets were open...so even if she had microchip, we'd not be able to read it. It was good luck that the neighbours who had Bernardine knew that another family in that next village had that breed also...and they had mutual friend..so they called him, he called the owner. We told owner that it'd be nice if she had collar with tag, he explained that she was pup still(she was huge, how big is this breed when full size?!) and she outgrew it, so they were going to buy new one after holidays...

I agree. Dogs are wonderful animals, but they are not human. Some people act like you're a terrible person for saying this, but it's just a fact. They don't think the same as humans do, they have different needs. You can’t treat it like you would a child.

Yes!!! And 95% of the people i know dont treats dogs as they need, spending their energy, creating bounds, having an appropriete spot for them. They just spoiled, and to not give the huge attention a dog demand, they let them do what ever they want. Dogs dont see this "love" as we do, they have their own social needs. If u have a Pug or a spitz it wont be a problem, but a hottweiler, pitbull, gsd, its going to be bad.

Doesn't always work! Some pitbulls or other breeds that become stimulated by pain will only further the aggression.

My mom used pepper spray to save her dog. She said if she didn't have the pepper spray her dog would've died.

i had the opposite problem, somehow my older dog could slip every collar put on her really easily, due to the shape of her head and i need to have her on a harness so she cant slip it. one more thing, it doesnt matter if you have a collar on or not you can do the choking trick he mentions with a leash alone on the spot when its neccessary, its a neat trick a policeman showed me, you simply slip the leash under the dogs neck grab both ends and lift straight up, granted its better and safer done with a collar but you know, when you have no alternatives....

Stupid owners!! Owned Rotties for almost 25 yrs and they never once got in a fight with another dog. In fact several other dogs got a good swift kick from me because their owners were clueless

i got some experience with it but i'd have to know more about your situation before i can really say anything that could be helpful. at most i can tell you this now, resource guarding is a learned behaviour in most cases, depends alot of your pups position in the litter from my experience, i have 2 lab rotties, the older one was always excluded and thus had problems with resource guarding while the younger one was a boss and wouldnt take shit from the other pups thus she always had plenty and now doesnt have that kind of resource guarding issues. They do not share food but if the older one is not fast enough and the younger gets her treats there is no problems, as long as the younger one keeps her nose out of the older's feeding bowl it's all good but that has a simple solution, you feed them together but on delay feeding the older first and after a minute the younger, so they take an approx same ammount of time to eat and keep themselves to their bowls.

Have a zero tolerance policy for resource guarding, if and when your dog does it, pin them. Pinning is not overly violent, depending on your dogs size implies how much force it will take, they MUST know who the boss is, I as a male in a house with 3 female dogs and my fiance, had to teach her to be the boss, after that food aggression has went down hill in my household. To pin the dog your scruff them and take their legs out from under them at the same time, forcing them onto their side until they calm down.

@@MrWarren1991 knowing my dogs that would have 0 or even counter effect, the older one would take offense and from then on do it even more on purpose the younger would take it as a game and do it even more on purpose... the way i do it, 1st i was standing between them when they ate, then i put the water bowl in between them after a week of me beeing there, week 3 i started feeding on delay and noe only when i dispense their treats they compete for it but they keep their noses to their bowls (as in the week i was standing in between, as soon as their nose left their bowl i took it away, sometimes with half or more dinner still there but they learned, week 2 i had to verbally correct a few times but it was enough). Did i mention they are both rottie labs, the older has a dash of hound and cane corso as well so roughness with them is only good to disperse their energy but as far as training goes it does not really work all that well, thing is they are smart AF and can take quite a lot physically, i train them to be tough, and when we wrestle sometimes even im concerned when i go overboard, im big and burly too, and im like shit i might have thrown her too hard this time, or they fall funny, never even a peep, and i had them both since they were pups, i never heard them cry out in pain, they are unbelievable, they just bounce back and go straight at me again, especially the younger one. Speaking of, i play Hunt with the younger one and is like i chase her if i manage to grab her she loses or she hunts me and if she gets my pants i lose, so few days back, i did not know we were even playing, the crazy dog ambushes me with a jump from a 4m roof lands her nose in the treat pouch and we tumble to the ground, she was under me so i start to panic im hurting her i turn on my back, she is still eating, nose in the pouch 0 fucks given

A tip for breaking up dog fights that are just bravado is to toss the aggressor. It takes the piss and vinegar right out of them. Picking them up by their back legs works, or just straight "air jail". If they latch on stick something up it's butt. I personally have pried a dogs jaw open, though I wouldn't recommend that unless you know the dog won't bite you.

Interesting you say that your dog is a service dog because a service dog should NEVER be showing any sort of aggression…. And one that does has not been sufficiently trained .

Margaret Get yourself an OC Spray in gel or cone. Some call it 'canned pep per' If an off leash dog is running towards you and barking he could bite you or your dog or a child with you. If you spray it in the eyes that dog will learn a lesson & you will be able to go your way. If you generally do not move very fast, pay a walker service and make them spray the strays.
