I mean girls und panzer is self explanatory, its girls and panzers and if you know German it means tanks btw, like what is there to explain about girls und panzer, just cute girls doing tank things just as the title suggests, its fun and cute indeed plus if you are part of that military weeb community especially war thunder players or tank enthusiasts this is the type of anime they could get behind since it kind delves into the tanks as well and how they work and stuff, its slightly educational although in my opinion it is also slightly political considering the factions are literally separated between nations during ww2 and its stereotypes with a bit of history, literall the Russian tanker girls sing Russian march songs and the German tanker girls ost is "Erika" Kanye's favorite song and etc. point is its ww2 tank games with a bit of re enactment with the strifes and struggles between the associated factions you know, as for if they do k1ll each other, honestly I don't know how to explain that myself either because no one dies and they shoot each other with tank rounds and explosions that can easily liquify their organs from the shockwave alone even if they were protected by a thick layer of steel, in fact no one actually gets hurt so Im guessing they are like gods or something idk, either way it just works I guess, its still pretty fun to watch.
Girls und Panzer is extremely fun. Pretty crazy, but fun. Driving and fighting tanks is a girls sport, the main characters are all highschoolers and they compete in a tournament. Also the schools are on giant aircraft carriers. The explanation for 1. why schools are on ships, 2. why fighting with tanks is a sport, 3. why it is specifically a female dominated sport, and 4. how fighting with WW2 tanks is safe enough to work as a highschool girls sport, is given some (generally insane) explanations in the show and should be witnessed in the anime rather than explained in text imo. As for the "dark route", there is at least one infamous doujin following that logic of actually sending highschoolers into real tank battles.
Irregular at magicial highschool is decently big, but I would also suggest looking at the endings for Irregular at magical highschool cause those are also really good.
Decently big internationally, yes. But it’s huge in Japan, and for obvious reasons. It’s one of very few franchises that’s genuinely quite patriotic Oh and the magic/pseudo-science is absolutely baller
Girls und Panzer is one of those animes that you expect to be nothign but cute girls doing cute things and suddenly get hit by high octane tank battles as if you just got whisked into a game of War Thunder. Very fun anime overall, highly recommend the anime, the film and the 1-hr a piece over-the-top OVA series that follows
Girls Und Panzer is unironically a great show. IDK who told you it wasn't just about girls in tanks because it is. It's a sports show with the sport of "tankery". The supposed saftey features to not die from the tank fights make no sense and they handwave everything. It's a show that hinges on rule of cool spectacle mixed with interesting tactics and random historical tank facts.
The story of GIRLS UND PANZER takes place in a fictitious world where schoolgirls take up tank driving as a discipline. Each school here basically represents a country (UK, Germany, Soviet Union, etc.). The main storyline follows Nishizumi Miho and her friends as they compete in the Global Tank Race in order to save their school. This anime can be said to be both real and unreal, its real part is that its depiction of tanks, its military background behind it is completely in line with history, you can obviously see that the makers of this animation are very knowledgeable about military knowledge and history, so there are a large group of military fans are very touted with this anime. The unreal part is that there are no casualties in this sport😂. Overall, it's a very different anime, which is why it has a lot of very loyal fans (I'm one of them), Definitely worth trying👍.
I hope someday you watch The Irregular at Magic Highschool. It's such a great anime. Season 1 was in 2014, season2 was in 2020, Season 3 is planned for 2024 (We also had a movie in 2017, a spin-off in 2021 and another movie in 2021) Edit: Btw, this anime is an adaptation of 1 of the top5 best-selling LightNovels in Japan. Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei (Irregular in Magic High School) is actually pretty big during it's time, although it didn't receive as much love as it should deserve... My guess is because of 2 reasons: 1. SAO and Accel World influence is still going strong for OP-MC fantasy genre that time... 2. Complexity of it's Magic System- the great thing about MKNR is that it's magic systems are closely based and bounded on real world sciences (esp. Physics and Chemistry) which may have resulted on a bit of complexity in how's and why's of the magics used within the anime. While the Light Novels deals with these through lengthy explanations of the magics, i guess the anime just doesn't have enough time for it... As for me who enjoys Science stuffs, the novel is like a chef's kiss to me with the anime as the icing on top... Hahah
I'd like to add that I think some people can't bear to watch the antics between tatsuya and miyuki (which is totally fair I feel like), it gets really weird sometimes

The Irregular at Magic High School deserves those openings, it is made with such attention to detail that comes from the novel that it just captures you into its world with it, plus the design, creativity, music, animation and effects...
The Irregular at Magic High School has one of the best, most well planned out, best designed magic systems in all of anime. In many other anime, the characters seem to get new powers/magic out of nowhere because it moves the plot forward. Whereas in The Irregular at Magic High School, all magic is systemized, you are effecting a real phenomena into the world. New magic is created through years of research by filling reasonable gaps of knowledge or development of new technology. From the beginning, the light novels foreshadow magic upgrades that come in later volumes (note 32 volumes + 5 squeal volumes).
When we say there is an anime for every sport, and if there isn't someday there will be, that includes sports that don't even exist. Believe it or not, Girls und Panzer is a sports anime 😁 And as crazy as it seems, it's actually a really solid show with a pretty loyal audience! *The impact of the series was so big that it was enough to help the city of Oarai, in Japan, (where the characters live in the anime), who had been struggling after a major natural disaster hit them a year prior to the anime, recover from it and thrive.* Oarai pretty much embraced the show and the whole town has a bunch of Girls und Panzer stuff all around and became sort of a pilgrimage site for fans of the series 😁
OP1 for Irregular is Lisa, then Garnidillia and then ASCA and yes, they are all amazing! Both of these shows are great for very different reasons, but they're both amazing! Irregular is pretty serious with some great action and a bit of weird comedy. idk who said Girls und Panzer is not about cute girls driving tanks because...that is all it is. Don't worry it doesn't get dark, no spoilers but a line from an early ep is "YAY! They destroyed my shop!" so pretty light hearted. Anytime I watch either of these shows I feel like playing video games because the action is so good. Irregular makes me wanna play Phantasy Star because I got lucky and got the white and green uniform they where, and Girls und Panzer makes me wanna play World of Tanks.
Irregular holds a special place in my heart as it was only the second anime I ever watched (not including shows I grew up with like Voltron, Robotech, and Star Blazers), and it was the first one I ever watched in Japanese. Sword Art Online was my first, and I mistakenly watched the entire first season dubbed because I didn't realize Netflix had the Japanese version available. I still remember where I was the first time I started watching Irregular and naively got annoyed that there wasn't a dubbed version. I binged the whole season (because in 2017 there was only one season) in two days, and have since rewatched it about three times, not including watching reactions. Fair warning if you end up watching it, you will have a hard time keeping track of everything going on as it is very dialogue heavy and uses a large amount of technical jargon that you don't really start to understand until about episode 12. This is definitely a series to watch twice to get all the enjoyment from it. Nevertheless, it is an amazing piece of work and it is criminal how underrated it is.
On the subject of Girls Und Panzer: there is a sub-genre of high school slice-of-life anime - popularized and epitomized by K-On - that focusses on a group of girls coming together and becoming friends over a common interest. Though these shows do give insights into said common interest, the main point is the relationships between the characters as they live out the remainders of their childhoods and come of age. This sub-genre is known as "cute girls doing cute things" anime. K-On is "cute girls doing cute things... in a band." Do It Yourself!! is "cute girls doing cute things... with DiY projects." And Girls Und Panzer is "cute girls doing cute things... in (non-lethal [please suspend your disbelief]) tanks."
The big reasons why OP3 visually looks different from OPs 1 and 2 is 1. the time difference between releases of S1 (2014) and S2 (2020), and 2. Madhouse (Overlord) was responsible for animating S1, while Eightbit (That Time I Got Reincarnated As a Slime) animated everything following that.
It's NOT the studio that made it (OPM S1) special btw. It was the DIRECTOR, (Shingo Natsume) and his connections in the industry to get some of the most amazing animators to do all the Key Frame Animations (like the fights). The key frame animators for OPM S1 were all or mostly independent/freelancers that are BIG NAMES in the Japanese Animator Industry. Like award winning or highly talented/skilled/experienced professional Freelancers that can pick and choose what the work on... ALL of Madhouse's best animated stuff is generally done by Freelancers/Outsourcing the Key Frames to the best of the best in the industry. That's why there's some madhouse anime series that get the "cheaper" treatment, because they're in house talent. *It does not mean that ALL in-house talents are bad - just like every other industry in the world - highly talented individuals are constantly moving around between studios if better pay and/or working conditions is offered, and/or their life outside of work dictates a change.* BUT, an anime, especially adaptations, generally has to be WELL FUNDED OR A PASSION PROJECT by someone with enough "pull" or "clout" or is in a higher up staffing position, to be of S1 OPM level of animation. And that's pretty much an INDUSTRY-WIDE standard operating practice. These freelancers working with the more talented individuals who are actually in-house up-and-comers or senior staff... With very few studios (like Kyoto Animation - who historically pays well enough and is selective enough in talents to KEEP great talents in-house full-time) deviating from this business model due to efficiency and cost reasons. Also as an extra layer of complexity - anime studios can fluctuate in their quality over time... an example of this is studios like J.C.Staff, their works from 2008 - 2017 (Index S1&S2, Railgun, Witchcraft Works, Danmachi S1, food Wars!, Shakugan no Sama, Toradora, Sakura-so no Petto na Kanojo, Shimoneta, PRISON SCHOOL, Flying Witch, Urara Meirocho, Heavy object...) being some of the best animation in the industry, then dropping off sharply for a time due to key talents leaving/retiring & industry contracts/staff shuffling/etc... But back to OPM S1's animation quality - as an Example; The START of the fight against the "Subterraneans" in OPM EP1 for instance, was animated by Ken'ichi Fujisawa (then of Naruto: Shippuden fame & lead Key Frame Animator of the Boruto Movie), the rest of the FIRST HALF was then Key Animated by Yoshimichi Kameda - who worked on "Kill La Kill", "Fullmetal Alchemist", and had just previously worked alongside Shingo Natsume on "Space Dandy"... And then, the SECOND HALF was Key Framed by Norifumi Nugai who was at the time known for incredible new-web generated animations with unrivalled talent. As a further example; Some of the more notable Gods of Animation that worked on OPM S1 include (but NOT LIMITED TO); - Atsuki Shimizu. - Keiichiro Watanabe. - Ken'ichi Fujisawa - (as mentioned above). - Toshiyuki Sato. - Yoshimichi Kameda - (as mentioned above). - Shuhei Handa. - Arifumi Imai. - Norifumi Nugai (as Mentioned above). - Yutaka Nakamura. - Hidehiko Sawada. - Miso. - Bahi JD. - Sejoon Kim (A.K.A - Se Jun Kim). Just look up ANY of their AnimeNewsNetwork pages, and you'll see how INCREDIBLY TALENTED this list is.. And that's not even mentioning the heaps of individuals that aren't mentioned here that are all just brought on board by Director Shingo Natsume for OPM S1. That's also - unfortunately - why everyone who knows anything about the way the industry operates just knew S2 was not going to be up to the same standard, as it did not have all these industry defining talents working on it like they had for S1. TL;DR - there isn't one. Sorry about the length of post - but I tried to keep the info as clear and concise as possible, while not being an ACTUAL NOVEL on this complex topic. P.S. - AND it's also very much just my viewpoint, based on facts I heard from the industry (from me it's 3rd party info) by people I know working in it over the years, which probably shows a level of factual bias.. but I digress, that's a whole other point entirely.
The Irregular at Magic High School in short is an anime about a future where magic and technology are combined. And in a certain magic school, an interesting pair of siblings enroll. The novels are actually quite often very scientific which is interesting, but can also get overwhelming for some people.
The third opening was by ASCA. If you'd like another good one from her, I'd recommend the Darwin's Game opening. She also did one of the Sword Art Online: Alicization openings (Resister). Another favorite from her is the Grancrest Senki opening. All are just as good as the one you heard this time in my opinion.
Girls und Panzer is, on it's Surface really just pretty girls in tanks. And yes it's *almost* entirely fun and light hearted. I won't go too much into it but essentially in this alternate universe , world nations practice a sport called "Tankery" or "Senshadou" where infact girls do drive around in tanks shooting other tanks. And yes that is an Aircraft Carrier, a big, fuck-off carrier. In Girls Und Panzer, don't ask "why", they'll just bs the explanations for many things lol. But all that aside I would definitely recommend it, both for fun and an anime to really dig into.

Girls und Panzer is, largely, a blend of genres. Mix the "Cute Highschool Girls hanging out and doing cute things" style with "Follow a new High School Sports team as they grow and become contenders", but said high school sport is Tank Battles using WWII tanks. (and tech to make the combat FAR less dangerous, but it's still possible to get seriously hurt) It's genuinely fun, cute and funny with some real heart and the tank battles are genuinely hype. I heartily recommend the series and any OVAs and movies you can get access to. :)
Some underrated openings and endings that you should react to are Boogiepop And Others, ID invade, Angels of Death, How Heavy Are the Dumbbells You Lift?, BNA, and Grimgar Of Fantasy And Ash
Hearing your theory about GuP reminded me of my own efforts to shove that show, Sora No Woto, and Strike Witches into the same continuity. Very similar line of logic. I'm not going to say Girls und Panzer is one of the best shows ever, but it's a fun one that I like a lot. It would be cool to see you react to it if you decide to!
Not sure about the 'pretty girls' part - but yeah; it's girls participating in some sort of a futuristic sport where they battle each other in what is the paint-ball version of tank battles... Better not question the sense behind it - just enjoy the show. ^^
I have JUST finished rewatching GuP yesterday, absolutely goated anime, i love it so much It is not a real war, it is a sport called Sensha-do, a non-lethal tank combat with modified tanks, shells etc. that high school girls partake in Ofc the main school is all over the place with all kinds of distinct characters and groups driving the their tanks and all the other schools are always based on a country...Germany, Finland, France, UK, Russia, Italy, US etc. and use their tanks The battles and strategies are also taken from actual operations during WW1 a WW2, animefied ofc lol and you do learn a bit about tanks and such but that is a staple in these kind of anime with a theme like camping in Yuru Camp, mountain climbing in Yama no Susume, fishing in Slow Loop, biking in Long Riders and many, many more It is honestly an amazing watch, really well done, quite action focused and beatiful to look at Also, the songs man...the girls sings songs and play music relating to their country during the battles and it is amazing, Pravda having the best damn entrance ever in anime For Irregualrs...yeah, the op are good but the anime is pretty generic, action with overpowered MC who has a sister that is a massive incest brocon because he is ooh soo cool with his emotionless stare, yes the girl who clings to him in the op, interlocking fingers and such Unoriginal as all hell So ofc it is popular for all those reasons Nothing against people who enjoy that really, i am just personally kinda tired of all these same-ish shonen action blobs...

Girls and panzer is a huge franchise in Japan with one anime, one movie, multiple OVAs, Mangas & video games. It's a quality series that stayed relevant for 10 years till now.
GuP should have die in 2012 as franchise given how bad the anime when airing since some episode is delay for month cuz the bad system production schedule from the studio but here we are talking about it and its probably still relevant for more decade in the future.

The one you were thinking of with the 2 worlds was GATE. Irregular at Magic High School has some similar vibes from the OP because of the mix of tech and magic, but it's just one world that has both.
Fate/Kaleid Liner Prisma Illya openings reaction and fate/apocrypha too if you haven't done em yet, those are absolute bangers. Fate apocrypha has my favorite LiSA opening.
I have only seen couple episodes of The Irregular at Magic High School and I forgot what the story was even about but the songs slaps and I listen to them regularly. Another anime with a lot of bangers would be Strike the Blood if you havent reacted to it. (it's a bit on the cheeky side but nothing not safe)
People were probably saying GuP isn't just "cute girls in tanks" because it goes so much in with the tank combat. It isn't war, but they do shoot each other with live rounds. It's a great anime that dives in deep with how ridiculous it is. There's actually another opening being released soon (or maybe it's already out) for the second half of the Das Finale movie series. If you can find that at some point you could react to that.

It is pretty in depth with the battles, but no it isn't dark at all. It isn't like Saga of Tanya the Evil, or "I can't believe my little war criminal is this cute". Also, can we please get a March Comes in Like a Lion reaction. It only barely lost to Girls Und Panzer in the twitch poll by a couple of votes. You usually ask about if a show is good and worth watching after hearing the openings, and I can tell you right now, it absolutely is. You have not seen anything like it.

GaruPan is so focused on historical accuracy of the tanks themselves that they got Nicholas Moran/The Chieftain to be a military advisor He also helped World of Tanks with their tanks and was an actual tanker It was my first anime I ever watched, and I very much recommend it The watch order if you do want to watch it is Season 1, Der Film, and then Das Finale - which is still coming out, one episode/movie every 2 years Part 4 just got released in Japanese theaters

The BEST part of Girls Und Panzer is that every single school is JUST a giant stereotype of their associated tank-producing nation. The Brits are literally ALWAYS drinking tea and ALL of the girls are named after tea. The Russians sing Russian marching songs in actual Russian (except for the English dub where they just play the Tetris song. Seriously.) The Finns just kinda silently judge everyone from the forest.
Wow, Mahouka?? I would NEVER expect for that. It is such an obscrure anime. I do LOVE it, love the story, love the Shiba siblings, but I know it does not fir for everyone. It takes it a slow start, so most drop it right at the beginning. But the way the world is built is really fascinating for me. I don't expect you do reacts of any of the episodes, not sure if it would be that popular, but it would be interesting to see how you react with each revelation of the plot

Irregular at Magic High is a very popular series and is also very much worth the watch. The world building is amazing and one of the most comprehensive magic systems in a show comparable to the toaru series.
The irregular at high school is like the fate series, they are good, famous, and lot of people watch it but don't talk a lot about it, we just recommended it since they are complicated when explaining in detail

In Girls Und Panzer "Tankery" is a sport and there is like a tournament and I assume people are saying GuP is not just "Cute Girls in Tanks" because the Anime and especially Das Finale is made by people who really take the history and design of the tanks to heart and make sure its known. There is a lot and A LOT of historical references and details in the script, tanks and show itself. Its truly fascinating. Plus you get to see cool tank battles. (Next episode comes out soon... Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei (Irregular at Magic High School) or Mahouka, is a world of magic in the modern world, a very refreshing take tbh. Magic has been developed into a science of its own with quantifiable numbers and metrics to "cast a spell". There are still traditional magics, like spirit magic or your typical idea of magicians but those have largely been phased for the more structured style of modern magic. Its honestly a fun watch.

Also you're missing the spin-off's Opening 101 by Sangatsu no Phantasia (Mahouka Koukou no Yuutousei, or in English: The Honor Student at Magic High School which is retelling the story but from Miyuki's, the sister's, point of view). While at it, you should try and find the LiSA x Aoi Eir live performance in which they both have sung each other songs together. It's those kind of anime that used to be VERY popular especially when it was being released similar to no game no life. You should react to the series eventually. ASCA was the one that did opening 3 of the series, she also did one of the opening for Sword art online. Girls Und Panzer to explain the series you can say girls driving tank. But its more of highschool girls fighting each other with tanks and war tactics as a sports, it's not a dark anime, just a cutesy sports anime WITH TANKS.

Irregular at Magic High School isn't for everyone but I enjoyed it enough it's one of the few shows I'll rewatch. Girls und Panzer was a weird concept but fun. Edit: the gun in question is essentially the equivalent of a wand. It's a tool that assists with casting magic and while its usage is regulated it's the sort of tool any magic student is expected to have. For some, their tool can take the form of melee weapons like swords. For others it's literally like a smartphone. Also, when you mentioned the opening being for a different show, I think you were watching the opening for a later arc in the story so you're not entirely wrong. The context is quite a bit different by that point.
Mahouka is one of my earliest anime that I watched and I love it. Been waiting for a new season for ages. They said the new season is next year but didn't mention exactly when

The "gun" you are referring to is a Casting Assistant Device (CAD). He isn't the only one that uses a gun shaped CAD and most character who use magic use CADs. Girl Und Panzer is basically just a sports anime with pretty girls. they only use non-lethal bullets for combat (but it's still dangerous if you get hit directly) The attraction of this anime is in the battle between tanks which is written very well. both in terms of variations in the battlefield, formations and strategies applied, types of tanks used in battle. Apart from that, each character has their own problems which makes each episode interesting.
Girls und Panzer is so much fun. Think "Tank warfare as an after school club". No death or even injury, just low stakes slice of life nondrama. It's a blast to watch.
Since you liked the first OP of Irregular how about reacting to the full version of it(preferrably the MV of it as well) since it actually is Lisa and is called Rising Hope. As others have said already, you MUST check the Endings of Irregular as well. . . . Since we are talking about Endings what about reacting to Psycho - Pass Endings as well?
Girls Und Panzer combines historically very accurate tanks which, however, perform like off road race cars and are reinforced with some sort of carbon fibre that makes them safe to be in even when blown metres in the air or rammed at speed. The series also gives names, character details and background on way more characters than is normal for a TV series.
So, the thing to remember about GuP is that "traditional combat" athletics are up there with regular sports a fair bit, especially at the academic competition level. Not just martial arts, but stuff like archery, kendo, and the like So take "cute girls doing cute things', add in traditional sport anime tropes, and give it a heap of "niche obsessive interest", and there you go. Cute girls playing the traditional combat sports with WW2 era tanks, and all the rival schools are themed after one of the countries fighting from the war But at it's heart, its entirely cute girls and sports anime, so the darkest it gets is some mild family drama and "Oh no! they'll close our school if we lose the championship!"

Girls und Panzer is basicly explaned, the Schools are on gigantic Ships (Aircraft Carrier) and the Tanking is School Sport and they challenge themself more or less. Yes they fight each other but they dont kill, its basicly a super sturdy tank which when shot displays automaticly a White flag , setting them capitulated, but despite bruises or something like that (which they get from getting thrown off their seats) they dont get any injuries

Girls und Panzer is a pretty wholesome anime. Yes its about girls in tanks, the carrier is the school. No, no one dies. Its like a weird sport of tank tag.
The primary attractions to Girls und Panzer beyond "pretty girls in tanks" are the massive amount of references to actual WWII-era (mostly) tank combat - taken to such an extent that it's almost impossible to spot all of them on the first try without references handy, and the nature of this sport requiring cultivating a massive cast of characters who nevertheless manage to be individuals with at least visible traces of their own storylines even if you're not following them. As bizarre as the premises are (that is in fact not an aircraft carrier, although it does have some aircraft: it's a school and small town on the surface of a truly massive ship) there's considerable worldbuilding based on them, to the extent that the first movie actually follows logically from the original storyline and even has less-than-visible plot threads progressing throughout (as well as giving you glimpses of what's basically somebody else's movie occuring in the background of this one). Also, because we've established that groups of Japanese girls are effectively deeply roleplaying being other nationalities, we got a lot of Japanese stereotypes of those nations... yet we don't get any true villains that way and it's always stuff that highlights both some things to make mild fun of and legitimately good traits to admire. (And they're doing it to Japan as well, albeit offscreen for quite a while.) [Appended] Yes, it's a sport. All of the rounds are pyrotechnic retrofitted with tracking chips to calculate "damage", and all the tanks have internal layers of futuristic armor. You could reasonably get a broken bone playing this, but fatalities would be very rare and require bad accidents or serious stupidity. That said, there is one point in the anime when a few students really are in danger of dying because they are intentionally doing something with a tank which is not even remotely safe.
Girls und panzer is the best n unique, plus totally breaking my theory too😂😂😂 Now its became my no.1 anime list of all time. The fourth movie was just came out in this early month.
