Received mine a little while ago and I absolutely love it (especially that it's not a traditional planner since I never stick to using those long enough anyway)! Both your videos and Dani's anti-planner are fantastic tools to have in the ADHD toolbox that I've been accumulating over the years. Thanks, Jess! (:

@annenas9485
@annenas9485 Год назад
@@AllyPenguin I'd say it's more aimed at late high schoolers and adults for two reasons (but I'd still recommend it): 1. There's a few minor cuss words here and there to emphasise emotion in a sentence, but those are likely nothing your daughter doesn't know already. 2. Some of the (examples of) exercises are more focused on work rather than school. That being said, I wish I had had something like this in middle and high school and I think Dani did a great job at making the anti-planner accessible to as many people as possible, including teens. It's chuck-full of exercises that pretty much anyone can benefit from regardless of age, whether they have ADHD or not. There's even a few exercises that are meant to be done in pairs, so I highly recommend that you look at them together :) Hope this helps!

For anybody else who doesn't want to write in the book, I found out from the comments on another Anti-Planner review video there are transparent post it notes! You can stick them over whatever thing you want to fill in and then remove them when done.

@Enysum
@Enysum Год назад
@@HSMfanatic17 yep! they have a different texture to them, usually kind of plastic-y, so you might find that you need to use a different writing utensil. I haven't seen fully-transparent ones, but partially-transparent ones in white, pink, and yellow I have seen for pretty cheap at big-name office stores like Office Depot, Staples, etc... If you think you might want to use this book many times over, you may want to consider making photocopies of some of the pages and using paperclips (flatter paper ones or dook darts are great for using a lot in a big book) or fold-over thin magnet bookmarks to hold them in place. I get anxious about writing in fresh writable books... Hope these tips help :D

I love that you used "minimum viable product" terminology. My wife is a product manager and I'm a software developer, and I used this framing to explain to my entrepreneurally-interested ADHD kid how treating homework the way we treat work projects (do an MVP and then iterate) lets him go down an exploratory path with his ideas, but always have something he can hand in on time. It seems to have really resonated.
@lunar686
@lunar686 Год назад
Absolutely loved it. It’s so useful for removing perfectionism. The ‘bullseye’ variation on it really resonated with my godson (ASD, ADHD), although her actually turned it into a mini dart board for when he was ‘on the fence’ or had difficulty interpreting his motivational state, but hey, he did have an awesome project to turn in for his first year of woodwork lol
@PeachPlastic
@PeachPlastic Год назад
Can you elaborate on what that means in practical terms? I have a hard time exploring ideas but then getting something done in time.
@TheBaumcm
@TheBaumcm Год назад
@@PeachPlastic not an expert but know the gist. Posting the applicable part first and the explanation after. So in exploring an idea, maybe you’ve identified a problem that needs a solution. Instead of researching and building everything, look at the simplest solution first which you can then change in later iterations (versions). Maybe make a smaller scale model instead of a full size one for proof of concept. Check to see if someone else has already solved that issue before diving in headfirst. Or maybe there is an existing solution that needs improvement. Basically, don’t waste time and resources trying to get it perfected before you find out if it even works or if it will be useful. In software, you can have a problem if you wait until the end of the project to show it to the client because maybe they didn’t know exactly what they wanted or how long it would take or maybe someone else developed something faster. So, we break it down into major tasks and give the highest rated task highest priority. Then, the team decides how to attack it, how long it should take and what done looks like. Iterations (versions) are created until the solution is reached and then you move on to the next. MVP, minimally viable product, means the smallest, most elegant, COMPLETE solution to the task at hand. You show that to the client, they say yay or nay, and then you either fix it or move on. It saves developers time and resources because you can see immediately if you’re on the right track. For example, if you need a chair to sit in because you have none, but you’re broke, you might find the least expensive option and then later get a more comfortable cushion or make it a prettier color with a cover. You’re not going to go straight to a throne which you’d have to save up for and might be uncomfortable for table in the long run.

The entire time I've been in college (3½ years), I've struggled to explain to my friends, family, and school advisors on why I couldn't finish my homework on time and the barriers I face in academics like negative associations, perfectionism, distorted expectations, overcomplicating tasks, feeling overwhelmed, unable to organize tasks etc. I'm usually told that I just need to breath and do pomodoros and do time blocks on Google calendar. Yet for the first time in 3½ years I feel seen. From what I've seen in the video, this planner makes me feel so validated in my struggles, that someone finally understands and there's strategies to actually combat these different areas

5:48 as a neurotipical left handed person I really understood that this is a 100% necessary when I tried to learn guitar ... because I just couldn't, it was horrible. No matter how much time and effort I was putting I just couldn't get the fingers right to hit the notes, let alone the accords. BUT when I finally decided to reverse the strings on my guitar so that I could play it like a left handed person...man! It was heaven. Now...in just a few months I have accomplished what in half year of practice I couldn't. Soo now I feel like I can understand my brothers a little bit more because 2/3 are in the Autistic spectrum and the third have ADHD. It really is just a different way that their brain works.

I think all that you have already done for this community is amazing, and even if it is only regurgitated information that you have already posted on your channel and nothing new, it would be a success and that would be enough! I am excited to have something to hold physically in my hands, carry in my bag, or even sit on my shelf that has a message of empowerment in its pages. I have had a book for my depression that I have used for this purpose, and it honestly just gives me support knowing its there to be able to access whenever I might need it (like having an inhaler in my pocket for my asthma, or a klonipin for an anxiety attack). I am also excited to have a physical resource I can hand to others that may not be the type to sit and watch a RU-vid video, i.e. my 87 yr old dad. I am constantly reccommending your channel to others! There are so many people in mine and my kid's lives that need this information, just to give them a glimpse of what we are all dealing with, and how to make it not so limiting to our success. Have you considered putting a disclaimer/note in your book that sends the reader to your website to check up on any addendums/corrections to your publications? That should effectively serve as a safety net. And you might even put it as corrections to the first edition. Then, if you ever do a proper revision to a later edition, then you would have a record of which editions those corrections apply to.

That is a good suggestion. I saw something similar with a book called Freakonomics. I could go online and get updated information that the author didn't have at the time of publishing and then they were nice enough that I didn't have to repurchase the book entirely to get that informations, but a new buyer would have the option to buy the new book or buy an older/used copy and check online for addendums.

That's a great idea. Another possibility would be a digital soft launch, get feedback, then paper publish 1.4 vs 1.0 version...

I got my copy of it from the first print run and so far I really like it. When I got it I did an overview of most of the content, I haven’t exactly tried all the exercises yet but I do plan on going back to it again soon though. This video was a nice reminder to get to it again. 😄 Thanks for the awesome ADHD content on the channel!

OMG. I love your comment about learning and growing and at the right level of challenge. I'm feeling that EVERYDAY in the job I started a year ago. Almost everything I'm doing is out of wheelhouse it feels like. I'm being not just pushed out of my comfort zone, but locked out of it once I'm out! But I'm learning and growing. And if I was in my comfort zone, I know I would be bored out of my mind eventually. This hit home so hard. Thank you. And I'm so happy you reviewed this. I have been debating for a while on getting this. I've seen a few other review videos on The Anti-Planner, but how you're going through it and USING it made the difference for me. I've ordered it. I just wish I had ordered it sooner now!

“Minimal viable product” made me think of something I do: I make stretch goals for myself. My main goals are things I NEED to get done, for example washing clothes and cleaning the toilets. Stretch goals are things I’d like to get done, but my life won’t be harder the next day if I don’t, for example organizing the attic.

Have you talked to your publisher about them hosting an errata page for your book? There can be a link to it in the front of the book, and in the rare case that any corrections are required, they can be easily added to the errata page to inform future readers.

I got mine a while ago and I absolutely love it. I love that I can jump from section to section depending on what I am feeling that day and how much energy I have to do something. As a gamer, I love the D20 list one especially. The options for turning tasks into games really works for me and has actually got me cleaning more.
