The counter tenor advantage...that is why it seems so effortless.

You just watched one of the best performances ever, live, no auto-tune. Listen to some of their other hits, they are all worth a listen. Real music.

The Righteous Brothers were referred to as "Blue-eyed Soul". They each sang solos in their performances. This is and always will be Bobby Hatfield's song. Live performance. No auto tunes. He had a cold and his parents were in the audience.

Incredible talent. A backing out-of-sight band. A handheld wired microphone No post-performance studio production. Decades before Autotune® was even thought of. One man singing live with his momma in the audience. Aside from his magnificent range, note that he is not straining in the least as he finishes. Whereas I, if I could even come close to that high register, would be gasping for breath, he just smiles as if to say, top that. Nearly 70 years later, Bobby Hatfield has been covered hundreds of times but he stands alone at the top of American singers.

My first concert nearly 60 years ago was The Righteous Brothers. Still love them today. Listen to them sing I Just Want To Make Love To You, Summertime, You'll Never Walk Alone from the Ed Sullivan Show.

Thank you for the great reaction! Pretty much any song by the Righteous Brothers is worth a listen. It's the magic of Bobby Hatfield's four-octive range matched with Bill Medley's bass-baritone voice that makes the harmony of their songs special, along with that peppering of soul. Next you should check out their other big hits: "You've Lost that Loving Feeling", which was the most frequently played song on radio in the entire 20th century; "(You're My) Soul and Inspiration"; and "Once in My Life". Also worth a listen is "I Just Wanna make love to you", where Bill Medley sings lead and Bobby's incredible rendition of "Summertime."

Great reaction guys, thank you. The song's highest note at the end which Bobby has no problem hitting spot on, is a High E5, before you try to sing this on karaoke night bare in mind Beyoncé maxes out at a High E6. So if you can't sing note for note w/Beyoncé, give it up & strike this song off your karaoke night sing along list.

I’m glad you showed the whole video with the cute chat with Andy Williams. He was a big star in his own right. Check Andy out sometime. You will not be disappointed.

My blue eyed soul music! I was 15 yrs old when I heard him sing this beautiful song on the Andy Williams show in 1965. His voice was awesome! No auto tunes just pure raw talent! RIP Bobby! We miss hearing your beautiful voice! ❤

This was written in 1955 for prison movie Unchained. This song has been covered over 1500 times in multiple languages. Bobby does the best. He had a head cold that night but still nailed it.

You guys have got to react to some of their other songs. Bobby Hatfield "Summertime" live performance in 1965. Others are You've lost that loving feeling Soul and Inspiration You'll Never Walk Alone And there are so many others. Bobby was only 24 years old here. His parents were in the audience and it was the first time his mother was hearing a live performance of this song. He was nervous but hit it out of the park for her. This is by far the best live performance ever.

Yes, listen to You’ve Lost That Lovin Feeling. If you want to listen to their soul side, listen to Bobby Hatfield’s Summertime and Bill Medley’s I Just Want To Make Love To You. Also listen to Soul and Inspiration and You’ll Never Walk Alone!

I was barely 10 in the 60’s when this was out. Only the “rich” neighbors had color televisions. I remember seeing The Wizard of Oz on the set of a tv repairman who lived next door. Check out You’ve Lost That Lovin Feeling which features both of the singers

And I was 12 in '65. Back then, my grandparents had the cool round-tube color TV. So our family visited them often in '64 and '65, when most primetime TV shows went color, and were amazed.

'Blue eyed soul'. You need to find 'You've lost that lovin' feeling' so you can hear both brothers. Classic music. This was a guest performance on the Andy Williams TV show.

Bobby Hatfield (8/10/1940-11/5/2003)has the most acclaim and popular version of this song, but check out the origin and history of this classic song to hear and see some of the 1,500 version of this song. Also give a listen to Home Free's, Voice Play's,Austin Brown 's renditions. Nice reaction.

No MTV, no music videos, no RU-vid. Music was promoted on Radio, Concerts or TV Variety shows like the Andy Williams Show (the guy in the pink sweater). Most of the music videos you are viewing from that era are probably from TV productions. By the way Andy Williams sings too.

What Bill Medley, the other Righteous Brother, meant about kicking himself is that he was offered the opportunity to record the song before Bobby was, but he declined because others had already recorded the song 10 years prior and it never received any recognition, so he didn't think it would ever be a hit. Bobby Hatfield then recorded it and by the time this tv appearance happened, his version had made the song famous. So, others sang it before him, but this song will always be Bobby's. Another tidbit: The original was written for a 1955 tv movie titled "Unchained", a prison movie (full length movie is available on youtube) and the song is the prisoner's desire to see his love again and is hoping she waits for him.

Hundreds of singers have sung this song but none were as good as Bobby Hatfield. The studio version of this song (used in the film 'Ghost') was great but this live version is stupendous. He had a cold, his mother was watching him sing professionally for the first time and he suffered stage fright. Did you also see that when he hit the high note at the end he did not contort his face like most singers do but kept it relaxed.

Beautiful, soulful and talented Bobby Lee Hatfield at his best. This performance was even better than the studio cut which charted twice. Thankfully they both did solos to showcase their diverse voices. Check out You'll never walk alone to hear how both voices meld. PS: Bill Medley was joking about sitting in the corner as he produced the studio cut which was released as the B side of a 45. DJs liked it and played it anyway.

The song was written for a 50's prison film named Unchained. It was "their" song for many young couples separated by the Vietnam war. The studio version was a hit. The remake for the film "Ghost" was great. But this live version by Bobby Hatfield will never be topped.

The full story I heard is that they were performing in a club in "down south" in California where a group of black Marines were in the audience and they were the ones who called it out. (I'm sure someone here will be able to tell you the name of the club, but I don't remember it.) Also, the term "blue eyed soul" was coined by a Philadelphia radio dj who first said it in reference to them specifically.

Bobby is a counter tenor...he had a larger range than regular tenors. This means he hts higher notes than regular tenors it is not falsetto.

Gentlemen, Not respectful to talk over your video. Loses continuity and confuses the listener who doesn't know what's going on. Simply keep quiet and be humble till the end of the performance and then speak as much as you like. It's called respect
