Trying to taking an objective, unbiased listen to the new music in the Tricky Trials update. There's a lot of debate about veteran players being nostalgia-blinded by C418's music so I hope I don't come across as that with my criticisms. I love lots of tracks from these new creators - Lena Raine, Kumi Tanioka and Aaron Cherof have made some excellent Minecraft music that fits really naturally into the world - but many of these 1.21 tracks are just not my cup of tea, which is totally OK! Lots of them have some really cool Minecraft-y elements mixed with each of the composers' unique personal style, and I do believe the soundtrack should evolve along with the game. But some of these just don't gel with me, for reasons I explain as we go along. Sorry if I'm harsh in places! These are just my honest first thoughts - do let me know yours in the comments below. Of course my feelings will change over time as I become more familiar with these songs and develop memories with them. That's what the game is all about!
I'd love to make an analysis video on the many facets of Minecraft music in the future - Overworld, Survival, Creative, Nether, End, Disc - and why I believe some songs excel in different areas.
