She wanted her debut album to be personal so she tried writing lyrics.But she said it was so hard to write a whole album on her own. So basically what she did was writing a whole letter of the things she wanted to say and the writers wrote the lyrics based on those letters.

After the unfortunate accident, wendy showed us that we shouldn’t give up in life. Last year was tough for us reveluvs but it is tougher for wendy because she feels the pain caused by the accident but wendy is a very strong woman, to recover 1 year from the injury is impressive for that kind of injury. All that i can say is i am very proud of her because to overcome those challenges is tough. I wish this solo debut brings more success to her and to Red Velvet! 💖💛💙💚💜

Basically, Wendy wrote letters and handed them to her composers and they turned them into songs, the reason why all of her songs are like "personalized".. Like water is her song for reveluvs, when this rain stops is like her song during her dark days (we all know when is this), and best friend (joy said she cried while listening to this bc she remembered all the things they've gone through all together)

"I wanna thank you for believing in me" hits hard.. it took me back to when she got hurt and there was a time when everyone was so uncertain if she would ever perform again... She is so brave and strong and I am glad she recovered and came back to us. But it's a song sang to the people who was with her until now for When This Rain Stops, she wanted to share the reassurance she received during her hiatus and show her gratitude. it's actually a word play because When this(Wendy's) rain (tears) stops. She said it's the hardest to sing since she has to put all her mental and strength and emotions into singing it. Wendy recorded for Best Friend completely solo first, but then she thought that the meaning would resonate more if she duetted it with a friend, she thought of Seulgi immediately and it became a duet :)

Seeing as how I’m debuting today and this is my first solo album, I’m not hoping for anything big. I just want to convey emotions and resonance with my voice.” The lyrics of When This Rain Stops, portrays Wendy’s autobiographical story, and contains relatable and comforting messages such as “sometimes it’s fine to rest for a while” at moments when one feels worn out in life.
The lyrics of 'like water' have much references regarding her accident back in 2019. It was one of the hardest and most painful moments in Wannie's life. Imagine she can't even eat? Her cheekbones cracked, her pelvis fractured and has to be tended in ICU for months. Reveluvs wer also in pain that time with all the other fandoms saying its the end of RV and with Wendy suffering so much w/ no clear future. Like Water is her tribute song to all the people hu supported her, esp. to her fans who believed in her return. :) People think its a love song but no. One can really only understand the depth this album has if you were already a fan before the accident or when you entered the fandom during psycho era. To say it was hard is really an understatement. There we so many uncertainties and coming from a shitty company, reveluvs really didn't know what to expect. It was a tough year, sooo sooo much. We were so mad at SBS (they didn't even apologize lmao they apologized to reveluvs instead of Wendy how dare they, they even lied to us multiple times) and SM did nothing. Wendy is toooo kind to sue SBS too. I still remember how the girls were so mad at sbs especially Joy who was very vocal about it. Or when reveluvs trended "I love you Wendy" (in hangul) on Naver and we were so happy to find out that she saw it. It was so devastating, to see the girls perform as four not because the other one has a schedule but because she just cant yet. All because of SBS' negligence. She just want to sing but because of a missing flashlight, a whole year was taken. She didn't even let go of the mic to the hospital. The occasional happiness Reveluvs experience everytime Wendy release something, her OST and the clean air for all vid and especially the first ot5 project since which is Milky Way. It was so special I stream it every day. The girls were so happy. Her monthly dear u letter really had a major role in the hiatus and finally the smtown. And them this album, the tracks she called her children (cute) because its her message for reveluvs (she emphasized it so many times that its for reveluvs only). This album is surely more than the charts. Reveluvs know how precious this album is. Though she didn't write the lyrics, she was still like a co-writer because she was the one who decided what to say in the lyrics, the things she wanted to convey to reveluvs. As a for 7 years, and as a Wendy biased luvie, its very special to me. I can't pick my personal fave. T_T
Now I’m never gonna be able to listen to “Best Friend” without thinking about Yeri popping up at the end with a, “you’re welcome for being blessed with my presence.” And Wendy is definitely an OST queen! I remember watching the mv for “Because I Love You” from Mimi, which she recorded while she was still in Sm rookies, and just being completely blown away by this amazing trainee who hadn’t even debuted yet. If you haven’t yet, you should definitely check it out.. though you may get sucked into the great debate of Wendy without bangs VS Wendy with bangs. Either way, she sounds as ethereal as ever. I’d definitely look forward to her live performances. While Wendy struggles with nerves and a bit of stage fright when she doesn’t have her members with her, when she really gets into a song she’s just so in her element. She gets this look on her face when she connects to what she’s singing, and it’s just so genuine and magical and real. That ability to really feel what she’s singing is what makes her such an amazing singer to me. Anyways, I really adore watching your Red Velvet reaction videos. It kinda feels like gushing over your favorite group with a friend. Can’t wait to watch your next one, and thank you!
As a fan of an artist who just have a whole rollercoaster ride in her albums (Taeyeon), I thought that I wouldn't like albums like this, like I thought I'd be like "Oh another ballad, next, ANOTHER ONE?!" but NO I literally became like "OH YES QUEEN SPRINGKLE ME WATER LIKE I AM A PLANT"!! Our Wendy literally screamed "NO YOU WOULD LOVE THIS ALBUM THE MOST, SHUT UP AND LISTEN BITCH" at me and she didn't lie though😂 I need a cpr wannie💙 So proud🤧

Cute, i just watched Selina's album reaction too. 🥺 It's the perfect debut for her to flex her vocal skills and cement herself as one of the best vocalist of all time, yes. And you're right she can do anything and everything she want. 😂 You must have been misinformed about the Why Can't You Love Me. Tho her predebut OST is called Because I Love You. They must have been confused or something 😭 Wendy has no songwriting/lyrics credits in here (yet), but she's very involved about the message that she wanted to show. Like especially for When This Rain Stops, it's described as Wendy's autobiographical story (you're right about how hard it she said she spent a total of like 12 to 15 hrs in total recording this one!!); For Like Water, she communicated with the lyricist what she wanted to say and convey in this song (she dedicates this song to Reveluvs 🥺); and for Best Friend, she said she already finished recording the song alone but thought that it would be more meaningful to sing it as a duet and immediately thought of Seulgi, her best friend. PS I love The Road too! Her emotions and storytelling 👏🏼 The song is pretty interesting too. And yes she has lots of OSTs btw. Fans describe her emotional singing sometimes as from someone who went through many divorces 😂

If I remember correctly she didn't write "Best Friend" but she said it was supposed to be a solo song and when she read the lyrics she straight thought of Seulgi and asked her if she wanted to sing it with her. Joy also said that when she heard it she cry because it made her think about everything they went through together. So precious. Anyway this EP was so good I'm so happy for Wendy and now I want a RV comeback even more

I would like a pop and upbeat album but I loved it much better at how Wendy decided to make her first solo album to be more of a dedication to all her fans and the people who have waited patiently for her return. “so for the title song Like Water, I wrote messages and everything I wanted to say to luvies which was then turned by the writer into the perfect lyrics” “this album is really solely for luvies so I hope you can listen to it with a comfortable heart” “also, this is my first album but I’ll keep on practicing in the future so that one day I’ll be able to show luvies the song I wrote on my own! 💙” Wendy's future career as a soloist is bright and promising I'd rather she take her time having fun and making happy memories trying out different genres and discovering what suits her the best. She's a very versatile singer I agree that it would be a disservice if she just settles with an ok song that doesn't at least show her skillset as a vocalist.
Wendy's vocals is unreal, I remember when Chanyeol personally choose her to sing Stay With Me with him in SM Town Live cause he thinks she really fits and he was not wrong. I hope she and her memberd as well get more recognition, they are amazing

When I first heard Like Water earlier, I felt cleansed. There’s something about that song that brings your walls down. Her vocals and interpretation was superb. Also, the aesthetics and her beauty added to the impact as well. Best Friend is indeed super sweet. Probably my fave out of all the songs besides Like Water.
I love this reaction. Have you heard her What If Love OST from the drama Touch Your Heart? You won't be disappointed. She delivers the emotion and the vocal gymnastics and the song itself just sounds incredible. I'm very proud of this solo debut. I am waiting for Red Velvet's return and Wendy's next solo album. She did an amazing job on her first album and I expect nothing but more amazing music from her and her group in the future.
"Why can't you love me" is my favorite song. However, this whole album could be played at a wedding in the Spring time. Wendy will always be my main bias. I'm so proud of Unnie Wendy.

CELINE DION, YES! I was listening to the whole album today and I couldn't put my finger on what it was that her voice and runs reminded me of, and that was it. Definitely something 90s-early 2000s about the whole thing (just putting it on a timeline because that's what matches my "growing-up" music).

Taemin has featured with Wendy in his solo album, and that makes me want to hear her music. "Like Water" is a beautiful song. The way she sings surprised me a lot. Her voice and the melody are so match. I also love "The road". It's so dramatic and emotional. What a special song!

It will be difficult 2. These songs are gonna be timeless, indeed. 3. You are on point with how Wendy is able to convey emotions through her singing. And while others may be good at singing, nothing can be felt. But with Wendy...this album just pierces through and tugs your heart. It's a "serious" album, very full of emotions and her voice really resonates the story she tells.
I love that she kept on telling everyone, also during her presscon, that all of the songs are for Reveluvs. Since she's been through a lot during the past year and Reveluvs never left her side. 🥺💙
