Oh man i got emotional at the start. I was in that livestream, at that exact moment, and I was so young, and your content has accompanied me through so much... I so happy you've grown so much as a content creator, John.
@@PM7Plus On an unrelated note, when I play Kanto, I almost always try to get Nidoking by the time I"m at Mt. Moon. Because you get Dig in Cerulean, it wrecks Surge.
My first game was Pokemon Black and I chose Tepig as my starter. The game asked me if I wanted to give my Tepig a nickname and I didn’t know what a nickname was (English isn’t my first language), so when the keyboard appeared I got scared and wrote Tepig. Now I have a lvl 80 Emboar called Tepig.
I kept losing to N's Purrloin in Accumula Town, so I caught a Lillipup to fight it because I thought that Purrloin would be weak against Lillipup because dogs chase cats. :')
My first Pokemon game was heart gold. My brother told me that once you catch all of the unown, you unlock a secret room where giratina is. Being 9 years old I believed him, but due to a lack of internet access I had no idea where to catch different letters. I spent so many hours just trying to get all the unown before finally giving up, and I only learned that there was no hidden giratina room when bdsp came out because I finally bothered to google all the letter locations. It took me 11 goddamn years to figure this out.
When I played Soulsilver for the first time I didn’t know what a shiny was and I somehow found a full odds Gyarados, but because of the guaranteed red Gyarados event earlier in the game I thought it was just a different form and that I didn’t want another one 😭
My main mistake is always not reading or not checking items 😅 my first ever play through I didn't know the existance of rivives or pp restore items... it made the Sinnoh elite 4 and Cynthia pretty hard 😱 luckily I found out later.
My first ever shiny encounter was a deerling in black, and I talked to the scientists in the area. They told me it changes colors when the season changes, so i assumed it was just a different season and killed it. Everytime I see a deerling I wish I could go back and catch that one
When I first played omega ruby I assumed all pokemon evolved via level up so I ended up having like a level 100 kadabra in my game. Eventually I traded with someone to evolve it and they didn't give it back because we "didn't shake on it" so I had to catch another pokemon to trade them just to get my alakazam back. Needless to say I have some trust issues with trading after that
I think the scariest things about my personal Pokémon mistakes are the ones that I don't even know about. Last year I went through my Pokémon Go Stash to transfer some Pokémon through Pokémon Home...there were 3 shinies that I never remembered catching. Makes me think about all of the Shinies I've passed up because I wasn't paying attention....
I've never failed a Shiny. I'm always VERY careful when one shows up, and I always carry around plenty of Pokeballs in case of randoms. I have, however, 'lost' a Shiny. My very first one. I was playing Emerald when it first came out, and since FireRed was my first game, I was not a newbie to things. However, I had never encountered a Shiny before, and didn't even know they existed. As I was grinding near the Daycare, I encountered an Oddish that was a weird color, and it sparkled. As I am essentially a bird and was attracted by the sparkles, I caught the Oddish and put it on my team, naming it Oddie, because I clearly was a creative child. I kept it on my team for the rest of the game, evolving it into a Vileplume, and was always mystified by its weird appearance and the sparkle animation. Through that entire time, my dumbass never figured out that this thing was RARE, and when I was bored one day, I reset the game and lost Oddie, thinking "Oh, I'll just catch another weird Oddish, no big deal". After Oddie was essentially killed, that was when I learned about Shinies, and yes, it still hurts.
10:31 seeing that exact moment from Alpharad's first Nuzlocke video still had me thinking on what's going through that guy's head to think the built-in Focus Sash was also in Gen 3
When I was very little I was helping my brother complete the dex in Yellow. I kept telling him that the easiest way to get Doduo would be to evolve Farfetch'd. We kept grinding for hours until we realized that I was wrong. Another time when I was a bit older, I was playing Emerald for the first time, and my dumb ass wouldn't bother to read NPC dialogue. So there was this part where you had to go to Mt. Chimney to get to the Magma Hideout and I had no idea. I kept going in circles throughout the whole region over and over until I finally decided to read one of the NPCs who told me I had to go there. When I finally started progressing again, it had been days and my team was in their 70s. Luckily I haven't made big mistakes as an adult lol
During my Pokemon Y playthrough I found a strange pink sneasel on the snowy route (probably one of my fav pokemon). I fainted it for the precious experience as I wasn't aware of what shiny pokemon were, although it got me intrigued as to why it was pink. A quick google search later and I figured out my mistake :,) Luckily I was able to catch 2 shiny sneasels since then :)
14:08 Almost 100% sure this was made up, since the obedience check was never applied to Pokemon with your Trainer and Secret ID until LPA, and even then it only applies to the level you met them
Here’s a couple of mistakes and both were during my Nuzlockes bc I'm currently a Nuzlocker: 1. During my X Nuzlocke, I was battling Siebold, I had Gogoat out during this. When he was about to send out Gyarados, I was planned to switch to Charizard to set up Sunny Day, and then switch to Snorlax to tank a hit and use Thunderbolt. However, because I sped up the game, I accidentally misclicked, keeping Gogoat in. I then switched to Charizard, while Gyarados was setting up Dragon Dance. And then, he outspeeds Charizard, killing it. (this was the only death I experienced in this game) 2. I was nuzlocking Black 2, and this was during a time where I didn’t know you can delay evolutions. After defeating Elesa using only Drilbur, I accidentally let Drilbur evolve into Excadrill instead of delaying it. Why? Because I didn’t realize until too late that Drilbur learns Earthquake at level 33 and Excadrill learns it 3 levels later. Check your Pokémon's movesets guys!
I tortured a poor Feebas because, after failing to evolve it with all methods I could think of, as a last resort, I figured that maybe it evolves by hate since evolving it by friendship didn't work.
One of my biggest mistakes was when I got Celebi in Crystal through a special event, I released it, thinking it would appear in the game if I reset it. That was when I was under the age of ten. 😂
Not a "mistake" really, but it upset me greatly. I started replaying Pokemon X recently (this is the first run I intend to finish) and my first encounter on Route 4 was a female Combee. Feeling incredibly lucky to have her, I named her Emily, after Glitter Lucky from Glitter Force. When I got to the Professor's lab, the game crashed, and the last time I saved was right before the Gym.
Mine was that when I was playing my first Pokemon game, Emerald, I thought the Pokeball icon on the side of the mon's name meant you had to catch it. I proceeded to catch about 10 wurmples
When Red and Blue had first come out, my friend had Red version and I had both. I was playing my Blue Version at his house and we got to talking about it. He told me he was stuck in Cerulean City because he didn’t know he was supposed to leave through the house Team Rocket robs. So he just kept training in the grass north of the city. For a long time. We had a battle and he had a level 68 Charizard just from the wild Pokémon in that area.
I had a SHINY VILEPLUME ON MY SCREEN and... so I didn't have much enough balls so I had to run and bike my way to the pokemon center.it still haunts me to this day
I have 2 Mistakes. Using a Master Ball on a Magneton in Y. I just thought that it was “just another ball to use to catch Pokémon” My other one was when I got Pokerus in Ultra Sun. I completely forgot for about an hour and then my game froze. Never saved. Lost my Pokerus.
I have a mistake from PLA. I had just got the Bravary ride and then I dodge rolled off the temple as I've dodge rolled into water and the a button to summon Baculegion always showed up. A to summon bravery didn't and I realized it too late and fainted for the first time in the game.
All these fails made me go check on my Heart Gold save game where I had just recently gotten a random encounter shiny Ratatta (in Bellsprout Tower; near Escape Rope), this video made me check to see if I remembered to save; I named him Mickey. EDIT: He’s still there. I forgot that I had evolved him into a Raticatte Lol.
I have a story: A friend gave me Pokémon Black 2, so I used it to trade with my Pokémon Black 1 copy. One day I got bored and deleted the Black 2 save file so I could play it myself. Little did I know that the Black 2 save file had a Shiny Typhlosion on it. How did I know after I deleted it? I was checking my Black 1 save file many years later and looked in the National Dex and there it was, registered as seen. Kids, this is why you transfer Pokémon over to another save before deleting it.
In emrald i got a shiny castform first with the weahter institute but after beeting the game steven i forgot to trade the shiny and reseted it and lost the shiny forever
In FireRed, I used my master ball to catch a cubone. I had already beaten the elite four but I never encountered a cubone in my playthrough so I really wanted one. After finding out where they are, I went searching in the tower for ~2 hours before I finally encountered one. I then realized that I didn’t have any regular poke balls in my bag and I didn’t want to try to find another cubone so I resorted to the master ball
My first shiny ever was a Trapinch in Pokémon Y, I saw the sparkles and the different color and my mind immediately went to shiny. But my stupid 8y/o self had heard that Pokémon Go had just introduced shinies and I thought that shinies were only in Pokémon go, I think I caught it anyways but I deleted that save file thinking it was on my other game.
When I was about 10, while playing Platinum, I accidentally ran away from Giratina and then saved for some reason. And it took a few years before I learned that you can battle it again in Turnback Cave, so for several years, I felt really bad about that mistake.
I read a book once about gen 1 pokemon, including all 8 eeveelutions. I thought the eeveelutions evolved into each other. During my play through in sword and shield, I wondered why a thunder stone didn't work on my Vaporeon.
I didn’t know what shiny Pokémon were back in the day so the first time I ran into a shiny Poliwag on the original Crystal I just killed it. I also accidentally reset on my version of SoulSilver that had all my shinies on it instead of starting a new game on the cartridge I specifically used for new games
In my first pokemon game pokemon platinum I didn't know what a shiny is and thought it would be bugged and ran. I just remembered that moment last month and it wasn't that dramatic anymore after I caught a shiny Glaceon two days after remembering.
The thing about the console dying is relatable. The first game I played physically instead of on an emulator was Moon. I didn't know the game didn't autosave due to being used to Savestates. When I turned the game back on I had to do the entire first island again
When I played Pokemon for the first time in Black/White, I remember very little because I was a kid. I don’t even remember which starter I had! I do remember one thing way too clearly, however. I remember that for some weird reason, I used the Master ball on a Foongus. Not a special Foongus, mind you. I don’t believe that I got a shiny in that game.
When i was 10 i got my first pokemon game. It was ruby. I caught a machop, evolved it into machoke, and did not know you needed to trade to get machamp. The elite 4 didn't stand a chance against my lvl 80 machoke spamming revenge and sismic toss.
Second ever Pokémon play through, my (then undiagnosed) adhd ass playing through Alpha Sapphire for the first time and being very excited. I was sweeping through everything in an attempt to beat the game before I had to go back to school after winter break. I forgot to save before fighting Kyogre and accidentally KOed it, so of course I end up resetting to try and catch it. ….I hadn’t saved for two gyms
ok, so a few things. One: I was shiny hunting in Moon for my second ever shiny, a bounsweet, that I was going to name Amythyst. I was doing the knock-out method and I didn't notice it was shiny until the point where I saw it faint. I did regain it though. Two: Later on, I lost that Moon version I had so many shinies (18) including my first ever shiny, a shiny Umbreon named Opal, and my first level 100 a non-shiny mimikyu named Jessie. Three: in that same moon game I used my master ball on the Lunala even though it has an easy catch. (i learned that with Sogaleo in sun) Bonus: Not exactly a "mistake" but I did spend 7 phases (well I found 12 shinies before it) and almost and about 9 months for a normal shiny sinistea with 33,473 total encounters, not including the shinies and the pokemon I didn't count in the hunts like nidoran (I was only counting the sinistea in the old graveyard) outside of that hunt in Shield. Including the other ones it was around 38,878 encounters not including the full odds aerodactyl that happened during one of the phases (but it wasn't part of my sinistea hunt so I didn't consider it a phase) and a mantyke and blaziken from Dynamax adventures. I also got pokerus if that helps with how long i was hunting. I named the sinistea iNSaNiTea for the pun and how this hunt drove me insane.
im like 99% sure that i accidentally reset on shiny mewtwo in leaf green, i was on my sp in a dark room and wasnt paying enough attention, only realised when i saw the sparkles right before the screen reset
In pokemon let's go pikachu, I was facing Bruno in the elite four and his onix set up stealth rocks at the start and I was down to his poliwrath. My only pokemon alive was moltres and it was at half health and I thought stealth rocks halfed your current health on flying type pokemon. I was super angry when my moltres died immediately and made me lose the battle.
One time, I was masuda method egg hunting shinies, and I was releasing the non-shinies and accidentally scrolled onto a shiny, competitively viable Dracovish I got. R.I.P. my boi.
A few days ago I decided to check what Pokémon I had in a Cherish ball in Ultra Moon, and I saw where I used my Master Ball. A malamar. It’s OT was Noah,(my name) and it was in a Master Ball. The only reason I can think of why I caught an Inkay in a master ball is because I liked the way it evolves.
I got a shiny Beldum from the ORAS early purchase event, evolved it into Metagross and used it on my playthrough team. And then I *forgot to move it to Pokemon Bank before restarting the game.* I still hate myself to this day because of it.
Pokemon FireRed was my first game, and I didn't know you were supposed to save the Master Ball for legendary Pokemon or that legendary Pokemon had low catch rates (I was like 9 lol). So, I used the Master Ball to catch one of the Snorlax that was blocking the roads. I found Zapdos later and couldn't understand why I couldn't catch it lol
I was a wee child, and me and my brother rented Pokepark at the library, and we didn’t know how to save. So every day, we would wake up to a new save file with all our data erased.
My son mentioned that as a side note, Pokérus is in fact, a fatal disease, that will kill your Pokémon quicker than it just dying of old age, even though it gains EV's faster. Which is why the tombstones, inside the Poké-Tower make so much sense, when looking back on the original games
On my first ever save of pokemon sword, I released my starter. I had gotten to the first wild area and I clicked the release button thinking it meant the pokemon would be sent out like a following pokemon. I had forgotten that there were autosaves earlier and I hadn't saved yet so I reset. At least this was near the start of the game. ._.
My very first pokemon game was Ruby, and I got to Mt Pyre and started crying because I thought pokemon could actually die if they got too strong... So I released my favorite Swellow, my SweetieGirl, into the wild so that she could live out a full happy life free. ...She was also the only pokemon I had that had any levels on it, so I had essentially screwed myself for the file. It wasn't a full soft lock, but boy it sure felt like it.
Thankfully I’ve never failed a shiny, but I do have 2 mistakes and 1 misconception. My first time with a main series Pokémon game was White when I was 10. I chose Oshawott and at the lab when Juniper asks if you want to nickname your Pokémon I accidentally clicked yes, and I didn’t know you could hit OK and it’d cancel so thought I could just name it its species and the game would think it didn’t have a nickname… I also didn’t know how to go lowercase. Guess who beat the game with an “OSHAWOTT”? Same game, same save, I had just gotten to route 10 and encountered a Bouffalant for the first time. That thing took every Pokéball I had (and I had a ton of Ultra Balls) so out of desperation I used the Master Ball on it. Quickly realizing my mistake, I bolted to the Opelucid Pokémon Center’s PC thinking if I released the Bouffalant then I could get the ball back. It was a slow sad walk back to route 10 to catch another Bouffalant… Way back, before I got into the main series, part of my main experience with the series was collecting the cards because I really liked the art. One night I asked my dad what HP meant. My dad, who works with lots of machinery, told me it meant “horse power”. So I went a good many years thinking the HP stat is what determined a Pokémon’s overall strength, because in my mind, that meant it was as strong as that many horses.
Wtf, my first game was white too, and the same things (wasting the masterball on a bouffalant and the nickname thing) happened to me too, although i chose snivy. No way
1. Play your friend's copy of pokemon Emerald. 2. Encounter full-odds shiny sableye 3. Go "I've been playing this for a really long time. Look, the game is starting to visually glitch. Better restart without saving" 4. Realize your mistake when you tell your friend about it at school the next day. The best part? This was after DPPT had already been released, so she had been spending hours pokeradar chaining the same night
When I first started playing main-series Pokémon games back in Gen 5, I didn’t know that only “outsider” Pokémon disobeyed when they leveled past the limit for the number of badges you had, so I was always afraid to level up my Pokémon. I don’t remember when I learned that Pokémon you catch yourself will always obey you (unless it’s Legends: Arceus.) It might have been during Gen 6, it might have been at some point in Gen 7. It was definitely after I beat X&Y. (I bought both for Christmas that year, and I beat Y in only 5 days (with help from one of my older brothers.))
Dumbest mistake happened recently - found a shiny cuffant, one I was excited for, only to accidentally click the picnic button... you can imagine my horror. And no, it was not there when I ended the picnic.
Okay, with the Machamp with Nidoking's head one, I feel like that kid had legitimately glitched out his game to the point that he lost his first Pokemon
I think one of the biggest mistakes I made was in my Pokemon Sun game, when I was just starting out on Pokemon games for the first time. I used some rare candies on my Zygarde when it was close to leveling up, because I didn't know at the time that they give the Pokemon the exact amount of EXP they need to level up. I didn't think it would bring it there with the exact amount. I thought it would level it up and have it at the exact amount it was at in the next level. Even worse, I forgot to switch it to the front of my party to get evenly leveled with the others, along with my Flygon. I was wrong.
This one stings because it actually happened relatively recently. Shiny hunting Ponyta in Alpha Sapphire. Catch one. Play for too long when I have to get to work the next day. Come back the next day. Can't find shiny Ponyta. Can't find other Pokemon I caught after shiny Ponyta. Sit there confused because I usually save twice just in case, but somehow I apparently didn't save at all. The fact that they practically give you shiny Ponyta in LA is actually just salt on the wounds.
The biggest mistake I’ve ever made in Pokémon (btw I was 8 or 9 at the time) So I was playing Project Pokémon which is a fanmade Pokémon game in Roblox, and I was going through victory rode, and I wanted to catch some higher level Pokémon, I ran into a lvl 60 Noibat and I thought I had ultra balls, turn out I only had one great ball, and I couldn’t run cause my Pokémon was too low level to run away from, but I did have 2 master balls. So I threw the great ball and it didn’t catch, the Noibat killed my Pokémon, so I went to switch, and I realized I only had one more Pokémon that was a decent level, the other Pokémon I had were below lvl 30, so I had no choice but to catch the Noibat with one of my master balls. 😕 So I went straight to the poke center at the end of victory rode, and at the very end, I ran into a gibble, so I wasted my only 2 master balls on 2 stupid little dragons 😫
Holy cow! I just remembered that I too got stuck for a bit in Pokémon Ruby because I didn’t think I could go under the bike path! Wow, that’s wild. Can’t believe I forgot that.
First shiny fail I experienced: I was playing Pokemon Y, and I found a shiny Zigzagoon after I got pokeballs. I went to get up and do something and I accidentally hit the run button. R.I.P Shiny Zigzagoon 😢😢😢
In fire red, I thought you were supposed to stay on the boat in Vermilion City. When it would sail away, I restarted my game. I was young when this happened.
