Pretty much every book tube I follow has raved about the green bones saga, yet no one has made me even slightly interested in picking it up. Maybe one day I’ll read it and love it, but it doesn’t intrigue me at all

21 dating 16 in Mistborn is fine. Fantasy and Fantasy Romances you just naturally change the ages to whatever makes sense for you. Its fantasy in a fantastical world. And don't remind me of Twilight lol, the mental gymnastics I had to go through for it to make sense and OK lol

I think an important aspect of Sword of Kaigen that got lost in the hype, was that Wang didn't initially intend the book to be this popular. According to her blog posts, she wrote the story while she was going through a really dark period in her life. She was basically unknown at the time, and it was more of a passion project. Her writing was a sort of therapy, she never expected anyone to actually read it. When people read it now, they don't know any of this and end up comparing it to books by millionaire authors who have access to the best editors. I went in with the mindset that this book was very personal to Wang, and it was an incredibly powerful reading experience.

I think most people who think Lord of the Rings is boring is probably because of the language. It doesn't use the same language style that we are so used to today like Sanderson's. So that can be a bit tricky.

I say yes to part 2 :) Unpopular opinion: I hated Dune. I can see what people like, and its importance to the genre. Does not mean I enjoyed reading it Edit: There are things I greatly enjoyed, but other things just... ruined it. I'm also not fond of "my special training means I control my emotions to the point I can shut them off" makes for an unrelatable character who feels more like a sociopath than anything. Jessica initially was my favorite. But as soon as inciting incident happens she becomes a helpless waif who needs her 15 year old son to order her around to even slightly function. The way any and all deaths are handled. Some are off page. Some are glanced over. It makes them feel pointless. And strips away any importance characters had. It feels like teenage wish fulfillment. Teenager is raised in a super special club. Steps up into role of a powerful parent whole the other parent has to worship and obey them. They're awesome at everything they do because prophecy (I am aware this is subverted by later booke) and literally worshipped by a group of "badass" people. I think this is a key to why so many loved this book. It probably connected to them as a kid and has a huge impact as a result. Its like Harry Potter. I doubt I'd love it if I read it blind at 35 instead of being 10 when book 1 was published. Stuff I liked: the world building. How can I hate that part? The extreme desert planet. The sandworms, the spice, the way people survive with so little water.
@douglasdea637
@douglasdea637 Год назад
I love Dune, love the whole series (the third book is the worst.) But I agree it can be a tough read with all the odd terms and such. Sorta agree about Jessica, but then she is pregnant and has to be careful through most of the book. She was still strong (most people could not handle what she goes through) but... yeah.
@IbbyMelbourne
@IbbyMelbourne Год назад
I will say, I'm sad when I see people who disliked the book for these reasons, because what I think it does is actually pretty brilliant and way ahead of its time. (Spoilers) Paul is not a good person, the Atreides use the Fremen for their own political gain, the Bene Gesserit manipulated the Fremen through thousands of years of religious conditioning, and Paul and Jessica take advantage of that to co-opt the fremen culture for their own selfish reasons. In the later books, Paul has committed multiple genocides, and ends up destroying the fremen culture.
@thatfuzzypotato1877
@thatfuzzypotato1877 Год назад
@@IbbyMelbourne I will admit I can appreciate how the book had no "hero", no one was a "good guy" but I think I would have been more engaged if the characters had emotions instead of internal monologues of why they can't feel. I understand the internal logic of why, but for me it removed the impact of everything.
@thatfuzzypotato1877

@@douglasdea637 I'm glad others can enjoy the book, and it's why I acknowledge it's an unpopular opinion. I'm definitely the odd man out here.he the terms didn't bother me at all. I actually really enjoyed the beginning of the book and being dropped into this world so unceremoneously. I felt extremely engaged with Leto's skepticism, Jessica's worry and protectiveness, Paul's curiosity. But once they get to the planet and shit hits the fan is when the book lost me. Primarily because the "I cannot feel" bits. But I understand thats half the point. For me, it disengaged me from the story. The parts with the Baron scheming were great, I just wish he was a tad less of a cartoon villain. Again, I get the goal was for him to feel hedonistic and draw attention to how all these royal houses suck and bring misery to the common man. But instead of hedonistic he felt more like a cartoon to me.

My unpopular opinion is that the majority of Stephen King’s best books were written in the 21st century. His newer stuff is better than his classic older stuff (on average).

I'm not sure about Silmarillion or Tolkien's other works, but I don't think that Sauron is a good villain in the Lord of the Rings trilogy itself. I think that he is more of a good threat. his pressence is felt, but I don't think he actively participates enough to be a compelling villain.

You can take pretty much any book in any genre and many people will tell you just how bad that books. And, the more popular said book is, the more some people will dislike it. Lots of people dislike whatever is popular and will eagerly tell you just how and why it is no good. Would be interested in more content of this nature.

My unpopular opinions: 1. The Book of the New Sun series by Gene Wolfe is way overrated, ridiculous and was written as a parody of sci-fi and fantasy. 2. Canticle for Leibowitz is also way overrated, is not a novel and is mostly dull. Opinion that isn't really unpopular but could get me in some trouble: Name of the Wind is overrated, not "Top 20" material, and the main character, Kvothe, is a Marty-Stu perfect boy.
@Steve_Stowers

Sometimes, "This book sucked" really means "It didn't give me what I was looking for" or "I was unable to appreciate it," which is the fault of the reader, not the book.

There are definitely worse books. Take Sanderson's books. His skyward is objectively a weaker book then his cosmere novels. I have seen people make excuses saying it's YA or other such stuff. But why can't YA books be well written. It is a 3 star novel at best even when read by the target audience.
