Yui and Moa have full writing credits for this song, lyrics and music (not the arrangement). They wrote it on the tour bus in Singapore when they were 12, Su challenged them to write a song about the number 4. They drove the staff members mad running round singing their new song and they complained about them - Koba turned it into a Black BABYMETAL song for the concerts. In Japan 4 is written/said as 'shi', but that also means death and is considered a very unlucky number to be avoided (much like we have the number 13 being unlucky superstition) so instead of 'shi' they use 'yon'. In the lyrics they list a lot of other words with 'shi' in them (eg bitamin no shi - vitamin C) and say they don't mean death, therefore neither does 4. It is simple but clever with a lot of play on words all at the same time. [Edit - and now I see Rick beat me to telling you all this by 2 minutes haha oh well]. Good spot with all the 4s in the choreo (there were more you missed like how they held their arms and legs at certain points).

It's hard to get the feel for this song if you don't know the back story, which has already been explained. Once you know it was written by Yui and Moa and you see how happy and proud they are, the song takes on a whole new life. You can't fake the pure joy with which they perform this song. It makes me smile every time. :) I still want to hear those songs about bananas and wood. Maybe they could pass it down to Sakura Gakuin??.. lol

In Japan the #4 is kinda seen like we see 13 here. It's a cursed number associated with death. In the song they are saying 4 is happiness not death. and somewhere in there that say it is the number of joy and social reform. More or less about stepping away from the old ways and rebelling.

💀 💕 / 4⃣ Official song credits: Lyrics: BLACK BABYMETAL (Yui and Moa!!!) / Music: BLACK BABYMETAL / Arr.: tatsuo, KxBxMETAL Yui and Moa made up this song during the Singapore 2013 tour, and repeated it over and over again to the point that staff complained about it. : ) Su suggested the theme of "4" as a challenge to Yui and Moa after they successfully made up songs on the themes of "banana" and "wood". The song is about the number four. In Japanese, 4 is "shi" which sounds like the word for death and it is often considered unlucky. 4 can also be "yon". This song talks about positive things that sound like the words for 4. Examples include Bitamin no shi ("4" is for "vitamin C") and Oishii no shi. ("4" is for "delicious".) I don't know how the Japanese music industry is set up, but I like the idea that Yui and Moa could get royalties whenever this song is broadcast, etc. : ) I'm guessing that when they make the "shh" motion with their finger, it's because that also sounds like "shi" (four).
@Wombatmetal
@Wombatmetal 4 года назад
I always wondered if the shh'ing was because they sang the song incessantly to troll the staff, least I heard they did. Don't care, it is bonkers. I miss Black Babymetal

I know you say you missed Su, but all three girls were considered equal parts of Babymetal. The three girls had performed together for a couple years before Babymetal ever took to the stage, but that's another story. There are many BM fans who consider Moa or Yui their favorite in the group. Thanks for your reaction.

For me Babymetal are at their best when they do those weird little sidetracked things like the reggae mix the spring noise or the what I call fart noises just like in syncopation when they do the little jazz dance this is what really entails their show business side I wish somebody would put together a compilation of all of those things along with I think what is also a big part of their shows opening and closing moments of songs when they throw the poses it all works together

I have seen some youtubers who did reaction to babymetal were like discrediting yui n moa just because they aren't lead/main vocalists n its kinda sad. These two had been working as hard as su. Moa n yui even got injured several times during babymetal's concerts. These two had to dance very energeticly while su as lead vocalist didn't need to move much coz she had to focus on her vocal. Anyway i love these three equally bcz i know all of them work very hard for the group equally as well.

T-Mac, The night before was Red Night. The railing wasn’t in place a Yui took a tumble off of the stage. Moa had a nasty fall on a stage run and both girls were questionable for the Black Night. They stepped up and had the show.

There are a couple of fan videos of Yui's fall. She fell a pretty good distance, but managed to avoid serious injury. Moa took a pretty tough fall and was pretty much in tears, but they were so professional and kept the show going.

I don't know much Japanese, but I can help with some of the lyrics, the verse that moa sings means "after one is two (hey hey) after two is three (hey hey) after three is ahhhhhhhh four!" Four is an unlucky number in Japan. When they were talking to the audience they were saying " yon yon" which again means "four four" the song seems to just be taunting people by saying an unlucky number as many times as possible😂 but like I say I'm not an expert.

Hello Please react BabyMetal ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mTOU45loQw8.html Thank you You said "they must get hurt alot"... Actually, the previous night from this video (this is Black Night, so on Red Night) at the Budokan, Moa Yui fell off the stage during a song and shortly after Moa slipped and fell on stage. The next night, Black Night, there were railing installed around the stage. Both Yui and Moa were back on their feet and finished the show. You can clearly see pain and concern on their faces, but they pulled through. Yuimetal is a living legend, she fell off the stage at the Budokan and lived to tell about it. Always more BabyMetal forever! :)

Moa and Yui being the joyous, energetic, fun and sweet girls that we love so much whenever they take on their Black Babymetal personas and let Su have a short rest backstage. Grington300 300 and Rick Wagner explain, as ever, all the story of how this song came into existence in the comments below. Which saves me doing it. And, as ever, I learn a few extra scraps of info about Babymetal. PS Gotta love the reggae bridge - makes me smile every time. Most 13 year old girls, when telling their parents/teachers that they've written a song and a dance routine would receive a polite smile and pats on the head. These two instead got a Metal band to write the music, a choreographer to help finesse the dance moves and an audience of 10,000 and a huge stadium to perform it in. Which is the least they deserved, obviously.

Red Mass concerts. You have to be a member of the official fan club "The One" and the tickets are sold by lottery. The Red Mass and Black Mass shows are unique in that each had prerequisites to attend besides being a member of The One. Black Mass was all male and you had to have your face in corpse painting. Black metal style. Red Mass was all female and must wear red and black attire.

yes and the Red Mass show is on dailymotion.com. it is so different in the crowd sound being all female. still pretty cool. and if I am not mistaken that was part of the big fox festivals. they had five different shows with different groups.

If I'm not mistaken, the gesture with their digit to their lips represents "shi" as well (see Grington300's explanation), which is also the Japanese way of saying "hush". Man, how I wish I could have been there for that crowd interaction part just once in my life. I would have died on the spot from cuteness (and in perfect peace).
