Luvd ur reaction to our greatest pub music legends Cold Chisel and the legendary Jimmy Barnes and they're reuniting this year for Cold Chisels 50th Anniversary and touring Australia wide... can't wait till they come to Perth.. again luvd ur reaction to our LEGENDS that us Aussies had to keep we gave the world AC/DC, INXS and more... but Cold Chisel and Barnesy are IUR TRUE BLUE AUSSIE LEGENDS ❤❤❤
"This one's specially dedicated to Billy and Alan" Friends, roadies, who died in a car crash on the way back from a gig. I am guessing Don Walker hadn't written Letter to Alan yet. Off that, a request, Letter to Alan.
Great to hear this version again of a Dylan Classic👍 Cheers Todd 🤘🤘 Yes the version at the Andy Durant memorial concert is a ripper!..& love Jimmy's Tom Petty t-shirt 👍 ✌️❤🇦🇺
Hi @sandgroperwookiee65 ... I will have to check the video out again, I did not notice what was on Jimmy's shirt. I am anxious to react the Andy Durant memorial concert version. Thank you for the great comment and rock on ...
The heaving mass of intimate humanity, singing swaying and belting out every song. This is where they cut their teeth and this is where they always looked most at home. Oh to be able to remember more of those gigs. The sets are a little faded these day but what is still very clear in my mind is being soaked to the skin and a stupid feeling of happiness, that this is what music was suppose to be. Thanks for the memories Todd.
Hi @mals4125 ... Sometimes you need a spark to light up those memories again. I can see where these guys would be a riot to see in concert. They absolutely rock! Keep those memories flowing and rock on ...
Yep great song but Chisel's version with the different vocalists is easily my favourite, and its always great to hear Don Walker sing, as he is a stay in the background type of bloke but very intelligent and interesting to listen to if you ever get the chance to hear him talk. Don had a solo career too with a band called Catfish (a blues/jazz fusion), and he has collaborated with a heap of musicians on their work over the years, as well as writing songs for other musicians. Chisel are a very unique band. They cross a lot of genres, two lead singers, heavily piano influenced rock, they utilise a lot of harp and sax, all band members were songwriters (the bass player Phil Small didn't write much but he is responsible for their biggest single, My Baby) and Jimmy was just wild. Thanks for the reaction mate...pure gold! I've subscribed. Some more Cold Chisel? Try their song "Janelle". Live or studio is fine. Its another one with both lead singers.
Hi @mitchellbeston1033 ... I noticed that Don Walker wrote a majority of Chisel's songs. It was fun to see him sing the second verse of "Heaven's Door". I am truly enjoying reacting to this band since everything I hear is new to me. I have a long list of songs to react to so I will be doing Chisel for quite a while. Thank you for subscribing and keep rockin' ...
There is another more loud, heavy rock version from Jimmy Barnes, Michael Hutchence and a cast of Aussie's top vocalists at the time..... i thought it was a INXS video / concert, but could be the Durant concert as mentioned by earlier posts.
Thanks heaps for reacting to this. Such a great song and phenomenal performance. But you gotta check out the version performed at the late Andrew Durant Memorial Concert, which included Ian Moss, Jimmy Barnes and bunch of other great musicians from Australia. That one will knock your socks off
Hi @georgeibrahim7945 ... The version you write about is the other live version I mentioned in my reaction. I will definitely do a reaction soon for this version. I will wear an extra pair of socks for it! Take care and keep rockin' ...
One of my regular Spotify songs by Chisel 🎵 Brilliant. Another favourite version of this classic song is at the 1980 Andrew Durant Memorial concert... Andy was is the band The Stars. Dr_Kap has a version on her channel you might want to check out, and introduce you to a mirriade of other Aussie stars on the way. PS The gentlemen Jimmy played tribute to at the beginning of the clip were part of his crew who were killed in a truck accident....Chisel also has a song called Letter to Alan for one of them. For that version, head to Casey Cooper's page and find the 1982 Germany Chisel concert....OMG it's gorgeous but haunting at the same time. Glad you enjoyed this one..... 8:41 is my favourite part ❤❤
Hi Todd, Over the years Cold Chisel have done some great cover songs ….. another couple…Don’t Let Go, River Deep Mountain High….. a side note Jimmy dedicated this song to Alan and Billy two friends who died in an Accident….Don Walker wrote Letter to Alan as a tribute…. Their is a Live version of this from Germany.
You really need to check out the live version of Cold Chisel doing their song "One Long Day" from 1978. It really showcases where Ian Moss's guitar musical styles come from, and is much like the early blues /rock styles of the 60s and 70s a la Cream. Here's the link: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hZMiR6rQ0Xw.html.
Hi @jdmanson54 ... Another song to add to my long list of Chisel songs to react to. I may need to do this one sooner then later. A la Cream, huh, awesome! Keep rockin' ...
Hey Todd I’m loving watching you checking out the Chisels for the first time. There’s a stack of Aussie gold for you waiting out there- check out “Capricorn Dancer” and “Goodbye Tiger” by Richard Clapton There’s another old classic from 1974 called “Evie parts 1,2 and 3” by Stevie Wright. I reckon you’ll dig it.
@ozzybarnes4225 Swingshift version starts with Mossy singing different lyrics "Mumma called me, wipe the blood off my face". When Jimmy comes in for his solo, it brings tears to your eyes. I love both versions.
AC/DC left Australia and became just another generic heavy rock band singing generic rock music. Cold chisel stayed in Aus and sang about life in Australia and became legends to Aussies.
Without a doubt, this is the best cover of this song. I love Eric Clapton, better. I love GnR, better. Just awsome, I get goosebumps everytime I hear this version. 🎉
This is far superior to Guns'n Roses version . They tried ( unsuccessfully ) to copy Chisel's version .Barnes 100% . Moss 100% . Slash 80% , Rose - 5% .
