I'm sorry, but how are the first few comments not people losing their minds over the Fifth Doctor and friends making a freaking bumper for you two? God, I love the extended Who fandom. How many franchises does that happen with? It's like the actors who play The Doctor and their companions actually absorb the "run fast, laugh hard, be kind" ethos just by acting in the show.

Has no one mentioned William Russell in the companion support group? Literally 47 years since he last played Ian on doctor Who -- an official Guinness World record. That's incredible.

The real Power of the Doctor was the friends we made along the way.

I think this is my favourite regeneration on the new who. It really felt like a passing of the torch and full of hope. Plus its nice she though "maybe this time I don't explode inside my tardis"

3 things: 1. I cried my eyes out when 7 and Ace got reunited. They were my childhood. They were what made me fall in love with the show. 2. Here in the UK the trailer literally played after the end credits. 3. OMG Nyssa, Tegan and 5 introducing you! Amazing. But not Adric (because he’s dead).

I really loved the Paul McGann appearance. I have listen to some of his big finish stories. His line about “I don’t do robes” fits his Doctor. Also watching the classic series and listening to the big finish stories to great to pass time when waiting for current to air.

But if it's any consolation, I once had to wait from 1996 to 2005 for new Doctor Who (television) content, so it could be much worse!

FUN FACT - - In the 1971 film "Nicholas and Alexandria", Tom Baker plays Rasputin! So there's another 'Master becomes Doctor' subtext! I'm SO GLAD you felt all the emotions you should connected with all the old companion scenes! In the support group scene, I wish they went around and each person said their names before they spoke, so all the NuWho fans could find their stories later if they wanted. It sounds like a backhanded compliment, but this is by far Chib's best story of his era!

Re: the 60th. My understanding is that there's a set of three specials beginning on the date of the anniversary, followed by a Christmas special, and then straight into the next series. So when it comes back it's properly back (for a while).

There are two more David Tennant episodes that were animated and released direct to video that I don't think the Gals have watched yet. Add them to the mix.

The anniversary is November 23rd ... the show was originally schedules for November 22nd but was pre-empted by news coverage of the Kennedy assassination so was aired the next night.

I watched Tegan when I was 12 years old. I watched Ace when I was 15. Now to see them again at age 48 was just magical. Things change...like 11 said, that's good, you have to keep moving forward. As long as I don't forget who I was as a teengaer. And Doctor Who helps me remember. (And so do you too, Katrina and Paula!)

Gals, I watch your Star Trek reactions too, and I just wanted to say I recently caught up with your season 6 finale reaction and Kat saying to the pushy people who were rude about you guys not watching DS9 that they were a big part of why she doesn’t want to do it has to be one of the most satisfying things I’ve ever seen a reactor say. First was Tom Baker in "Nicholas and Alexandra" in 1971. I don't care what anyone says but Wiliam Russell's appearance as Ian is this Special's Magical Curator moment! The "Ra-Ra Rasputin" bit was Brilliant!!! Tegan talking to 5 and Ace talking to 7....Was So BEAUTIFUL!!! 1, 5, 6, 7 and 8...So Awesome!!!!!!!!!! This whole special felt more like a CINEMATIC movie event than a special! Seeing Mel, and Jo...FAB!!!! Ian's saying "Sorry, didy you say Her???" So awesome! Since he only knew Doctor 1! Ace's Bat!! YESSSS!!!!!!!!!!! The scene on top the Tardis with the Ice Cream...Was soo Beautiful! I think they should give master a rest, and bring back another classic Who villian for a while...someone we was in the 6th and 7th doctor eras!

That intro by the Doctor and companions was such a great surprise! I agree 100% that it's great when the companions are able to walk out on their own. That was the usual way it worked in Classic Who (of course there were a few exceptions), but in New Who it's mostly been that companions are prevented from staying with the Doctor through catastrophe, and so we never get, as the Seventh Doctor said in this episode, "Children leaving home."

I have loved watching you guys watching this. I’ve been able to enjoy the show in a whole new way. I am also going to miss Jodie. She was amazing. Im sure someone else has mentioned it but The Master half cat story is Survival the last story of the classic era. Worth a watch. That last series doesn’t feel that different from new who.

Capaldi is the doctor that I claim as being my doctor cuz his was the first error that I truly became a Whovian. That being said Jodi was the first era that I was able to catch live. So coming to the end of her run I knew was going to be painful and the way that they ended it were LOTS of tears. Not only for what triggered her regeneration this time but also for all of the Easter eggs that they threw in. And it is really emotional that Ace got some time with her doctor(Sylvester) and that Tegan got some time with her doctor(Davidson). And that whole scene on the edge was just incredible( I absolutely love the interplay between McGann and Sylvester). And of course that they brought back Bradley to play the first doctor again. We've been waiting for months between power of the doctor and the 60th anniversary. And I know how contentious this era of the show has been but I cannot help but absolutely love every scene that Jodi was in.

I LOVED this Episode. It was full of Action, Funny Bits and Sadness. Very Good Reactions Girls and many more. The good thing about the long wait is...you could React to Classic Who.

I kept thinking that after this series; the Master hijacking the Doctor's form is interesting given he's essentially a shadow to her, a pale imitation in comparison. Also, when he said "Adric" to Teegan, why the f*ck did I tear up? I saw that episode once, years and years ago, I didn't even like that little bastard but damn that hit, right in the heart muscle man, f*ck!!!!

Congratulations on catching up Paula . I don't use the internet much but I've enjoyed watching many of your reactions to Dr Who , I' was 10 when I saw the first episode and I've seen most of it over the years . The Power of the Doctor was a real crowd pleaser , it linked up to so many of the past characters and events and maybe that's something that's been lacking in the Chibnall era . The manic Master , the Rasputin dance , an interesting idea about him wanting to be the Doctor , Cybermen , Daleks this was one of the best . Great performances by everyone involved . It's a shame to lose Jodie it would have been interesting to see her with RTD. For a few episodes . Now you will have to wait with the rest of us to see what happens with David Tennant but hopefully you will do more classic stories in the meantime .

I am saddened that you did't talk about Ian Chesterton in the support group (original male companion played by William Russell).

I wish they didn’t have the clothes change. It’s one of the consistencies with the regenerations since 1 became 2. They start out in the previous doctors outfit. Plus it would have been more of a shock since we were able to recognize David’s outfit before his face appeared. And it wouldn’t have been difficult to have him go into the tardis and change before his next adventure.

I hope you will go back and start watching (and re-watching) the “classic era” episodes in order (where possible for the 1960s episodes), while we all wait for the 60th anniversary. Technically David Tennant has played: Two versions of the “Tenth” Doctor: - First version (10th regeneration/11th incarnation (current regeneration cycle), from The Parting of the Ways to Journey’s End); - Second version (11th regeneration/12th incarnation, from Journey’s End to The End of Time Part 2 and The Day of the Doctor); The “Fourteenth” Doctor (15th, maybe 15th and a half or 16th, regeneration (depending on how you count the Master’s failed, temporary forced regeneration (personally, I count that as 14th and a half regeneration)/16th incarnation (once again adjust numbers for Master’s temporary forced incarnation); The splinter half-human Meta-Crisis Doctor (brought into existence between the Doctor’s 12th and 13th incarnations, in Journey’s End); and John Smith (human chameleon arch disguise used by the first “Tenth” Doctor in Human Nature/The Family of Blood).

Watched your reaction through floods of tears s the memories came flooding back. Man, I loved Power of the Doctor! How Jodie's era met with such hostility I will never understand. Thank you Gallifrey Gals for upholding the positive. Oh and hang in with this Tennant kid. I think he's going places!

Paula's all caught up 🥲But did anybody else find it weird that Jodie's last episode didn't focus on Jodie as much? Like a good amount of time was spent on characters that weren't really part of her era, this felt more like the anniversary episode at points. I enjoyed the episode and Jodie last moments with Yaz and on her own were so lovely and peaceful, the beach landscape was gorgeous! But I just feel it might have been better if Tegan or Ace had come back earlier in the run, or if this had been a multi-story arc for them. Anyone else feel this way, or disagree?

Been a while since I commented. Congratulations to you two completing the Doctor Who reaction run. Pleasantly surprised to see you enjoyed the Chibnall era, in spite of others who tried to convince you otherwise (I am one of those who feel that the Whittaker era has been unfairly criticised). Looking forward to you finishing the TNG run after that, and joining the ranks of former reactors who now live react to the latest Who episodes.

Jodie Whitaker is my current favorite Doctor. Up until October 2022 I was neither-here-nor-there on the plots of this era's episodes, even as I continually loved the Fam's dynamic and those characters. Then, after watching The Power of The Doctor something clicked for me. Thirteen's character arch resonates with me the most out of any Doctor. Tragic, beautiful, and resolutely hopeful. I aspire to be like 13 (the best parts of her) and I find myself unfortunately embodying her emotionally unhealthy traits. Her end makes me smile and cry. Power retroactively makes me love her entire run.

I hope you’ll be watching the 60th anniversary for the first time together

Since you have finished all of new who are you going to start watching classic who from the start in order ? Just a suggestion…

I know the above didn't include the full companion group therapy scene... But I just... I'm totally devo about William Russell's passing this week, so I'm posting here anyways. William Russell was an amazing person, fought in WWII, starred in his own tv show before Doctor Who even came along, and could doubtless have looked for another lead, but instead he took this role, playing supporting cast to the titular actor, and yet never showing him up. William Russell literally acted on his feet, ad-libbing lines where needed if William Hartnell fluffed his own dialogue to make sure any critical plot points were explained (cos in those days the show was recorded as if it were a play). He was active in the fan circuit, and came back to the show to do audios, he portrayed Ian again in the 1990's to record linking material for the missing episodes... and of course, this, his last acting role. He was AMAZING! I can still remember watching "The Daleks" for the first time when it was released on VHS - the first time I met Ian and Barbara. The show owes a lot to William Hartnell, don't get me wrong, but really it was that entire original cast, and in particular William Russell, who played the quiet action hero. I am so thankful that Chibnall brought Ian back for this story. It was heartbreaking hearing how much of a struggle it was for William to say even his one line of aired dialogue... (and by the sounds of it, John Bishop did an amazing job helping him through it. Reminds me of the story behind Hartnell's final performance...) I have just watched the colour version of The Daleks with my kids in tribute... and... whilst I've said before that ya'll Gals could always skip the rest of Hartnell's era if you're finding it too slow... you should at least watch The Chase... None of us are getting any younger... it's a simple fact of life that as we continue moving forward through time, we're going to lose these actors who meant so much to us. Not every loss feels the same.. (Liz Sladen is still heartbreaking) But this one really hurts. 99 years old... He had an amazing life. Now Carole Ann Ford is the only original crew alive... and she is 88. If RTD plans to resurrect Susan (and we had a tantalising teaser during The Devil's Chord) - he better do it soon, and give her a regeneration. Ok now I'm rambling...

Been an epic journey watching all of this, Does this mean when new doctor who episodes come out. Will you both be reacting to it, instead of just Katrina knowing what happens?

"It's the end, but the moment has been prepared for..." I'm not going to lie, I went into "The Power of the Doctor" with my expectations pretty much way below sea level. The previous episode had been a total failure on every conceivable level and pissed me off to no end; this was then followed by roughly six months of complete radio silence from the BBC publicity team, resulting in any hype anyone could've possibly had for this final episode dissipating; and what little publicity and information we'd gotten about this episode seemed to suggest the episode was going to be an incomprehensible mess. Much to my surprise however, when the day eventually came, the episode turned out to be....a near-incomprehensible mess, albeit one that was incredibly fun to watch regardless. The main thing I was worried about going into "The Power of the Doctor" was all the fanservice elements related to Ace and Tegan returning after decades of absence. I was concerned that it was going to result in this episode getting drowned in continuity porn that would leave it completely impenetrable to people unfamiliar with those eras of the show. Therefore, I was pleasantly surprised to find that these elements were actually the best part of the episode. I'm not familiar with either of the characters, but both Ace and Tegan feel really well-written and engaging, and both Sophie Aldred and Janet Fielding fit into their roles perfectly, bringing plenty of charisma and energy to the parts and truly coming across like they've been playing these characters for years (I know they technically have, because of Big Finish, but you know what I mean). I do wish we'd gotten to see more of their interactions with Jodie Whitaker's Doctor, but Chibnall thankfully compensates for their lack of shared screentime by giving us two of the episode's three best scenes. Ace and Tegan's reunions with hologram representations of the Seventh and Fifth Doctors respectively were really engaging and moving, which is quite the achievement considering (as mentioned previously) I'm not that familiar with either of their eras. Chibnall's provided some genuinely surprisingly great dialogue for the characters, and Sylvester McCoy and Peter Davison demonstrate great chemistry with their respective companions during these scenes, making their emotional reconciliations feel even more powerful and effective. Outside of the fanservice elements, there's a lot about "The Power of the Doctor" that I really love. Once again, Sacha Dhawan absolutely shines as the Master, giving easily his best performance as the character thus far (I do hope we see him again at some point). He's thankfully toned down the over-the-top panto villain feel he had back in series 12, showing a largely colder and more calculating take on the role, albeit still with some occasional outbursts of rage, and moments of silliness like his dance scene (which is the other one of the episode's best scenes). Despite her limited screentime, it was also great to see Jo Martin make a brief return as the hologram version of the Fugitive Doctor, showing so much charm and confidence in her singular scene that it makes me all the more upset we'll likely never see her again. There's some genuinely fascinating concepts introduced in this episode, such as the Guardians of the Edge, the companion support group, and the Kaled-purist Dalek renegade. The action scenes are generally really compelling and exciting and staged very well, from the attack on the train at the start, to Ace taking on the Daleks, to Ashad's Darth-Vader-in-Rogue-One style hallway massacre. The direction and visual effects in general looked really great, and really helped wash out the bad taste of "Legend of the Sea Devils" and its dodgy unfinished effects shots. And for what would be his last episode, Segun Akinola really went all out to impress with his score for the episode - his souped-up versions of his Dalek, Cybermen and Master themes sounded amazing, and the final variation of Thirteen's theme during the regeneration sounded appropriately beautiful and majestic. But for all that "The Power of the Doctor" does well, it also leaves me feeling frustrated, because despite being a really fun and enjoyable episode, the episode fails to act as an effective send-off for the current era. Despite this being her final episode and her last chance to really shine in the role, Jodie Whitaker has really been given the short-end of the stick here. The Thirteenth Doctor is pretty much a total non-presence in her own regeneration story; she spends much of the first half having to fight Ace, Tegan, the Master and Vinder (who only seems to be here because Chibnall wanted to use Captain Jack but had to change tack after John Barrowman got cancelled) for attention and screentime, and then she gets effectively written out of the story halfway through the episode. For a good 25 minutes (about 30% of the runtime), the Thirteenth Doctor is replaced by Sacha Dhawan wearing an amalgamation of various Doctor outfits, and Jodie Whitaker is stuck playing a hologram instead - when she's not being switched out for Sylvester McCoy, Peter Davison, or Jo Martin. Say what you want about previous regeneration stories, they at least felt like they were actually *about* the outgoing incumbent, and had something to say about them as characters. "The Power of the Doctor" really has nothing to say about the Thirteenth Doctor as a character, to the point where even her death is an afterthought; rather than something that actually felt like it was built up over the course of the episode, or rooted in the Doctor's character arc, she just gets randomly hit by a laser and fucking dies. At the very least I can say that her actual regeneration scene was quite nice; it was sweet and hopeful, and her last words actually fit her character really well. And that's to say nothing of Yaz, who truly reinforced her status as easily the single worst-served companion of the entire revival. Her departure scene basically comes down to the Doctor forcing her out of the TARDIS for vague unexplained reasons, and Yaz just agreeing to do so, because God forbid the companions in this era actually have some semblance of agency in their own stories. For someone who claims to be madly and deeply in love with the Doctor, Yaz sure seems ready and willing to leave the Doctor just because she said so. Or maybe she isn't ready or willing to do so, but we'll never know because the episode offers zero chance for Yaz to actually elaborate on her feelings and points of view. There's no exploration of how her experiences have changed her, or what she's going to do with herself now, she really ends her tenure on a vague and inconclusive note - Mandip Gill deserved so much better than this. I suppose in that regard, that makes "The Power of the Doctor" a perfect conclusion to this era, because that's exactly the way I've felt about this era for years now. The second Jodie Whitaker was cast as the Doctor, this era became the centre of a culture war because a bunch of angry incels couldn't stand the fact that the hero of one of the biggest sci-fi series on Earth was played by a woman now. And because of that, I was on this era's side and desperately wanted it to succeed and prove all those backwards-thinking haters wrong. And here I am, nearly six years later, looking back on this era with a combination of ennui, irritation, and absolute disappointment. All the pieces were here for the Thirteenth Doctor's era to become a new Golden age for the show - a writer who'd just finished with one of the most popular and acclaimed TV shows in recent years; a cast of highly talented and skilled actors; and a promise for a bold and creative new vision for the show after seven years of Moffat (I loved his time as showrunner, but even I can admit that we'd reached the point where a change was desperately needed). And all those pieces never came together to form something satisfying - that writer produced enough good scripts to be counted on one hand, while all the other great ones came from other people; those talented and skilled actors were stuck playing flat and two-dimensional characters with less personality than their action figures, while being regularly upstaged by guest stars; and that bold new vision failed to last, and the era ultimately became a confused mess that was more preoccupied with continuity and references than it was with its own stories - literally, this final episode fails to resolve any of the overarching stories raised by this era (the Timeless Child, the Division, the fate of Gallifrey, the Doctor's memories, her unwillingness to open up to her companions, Thasmin). Overall, the high hopes I had for this era back in 2017 lie broken at my feet in 2023, as I look back on easily the worst era of the show's post-2005 run. In my opinion anyway, because it's clear for me to see that both of you had far more fun and positive feelings for this era than I have...and honestly, that's great! I'm glad that you both enjoyed this era, even when I didn't, and I can say that I have very much enjoyed revisiting this era, and indeed the entire revival with the pair of you. It's weird to consider that when you both started this journey, Jodie Whitaker's era hadn't even started yet, Paula had no idea about anything related to Doctor Who, and this channel wasn't even a spark in your synapses yet. And here we are, five years, 165 episodes and God-knows how many videos later, and what a ride it's been, through all the joy, tears, terror and unexpected outbursts of anger that we saw along the way. Anyway, congratulations Paula on making it to the end - you're finally a Whovian like the rest of us! And best of luck with whatever you decide to do until the next episodes arrive in November!

This intro has already shocked me. Now watching rest. Coincidentally first time re-watched this episode since broadcast. My opinion hadn't changed maybe this reaction will influence me?

Weird to think you've caught up now This episode got to me in October. like even watching it months after the fact, like with the forced regeneration into the Dhawan Docter/Mastor the hologram reunions & the "I want more time" still does. Semi implied/Semi head canon- The reason the Master set up the forced regeneration was so he could "be the Timeless Child at last" (due to him hating it being the Doctor rather than him, in s12)+ (in theory) the Doctor cant stop him if there's no Doctor anymore as "he overwrote her" (didn't count on hologram Doctors & the companions though) Think my take on the Regeneration count is that while Jodie was officially 13th (and in reality 15th, since the Doctor was reset into the Hartnell Doctor) & TennantC (60th Anniversary) is officially the 14th, the Dhawan Docter/Mastor is the actual 16th Doctor with TennantC being the actual 17th but as his regeneration was undone, the Doctors body bank balance is at 3 bodies used (Capaldi, Whittaker & TennantC) with 10 bodies left (assuming the Timelords only have standard regeneration cycle, back in Time Of The Doctor). concerning Tennant playing TennantA(Born Again-The Stolen Earth), TennantB (Journeys End-The End Of Time) & TennantC, to be fair, in the expanded universe, one book said that the 2nd Master & the 12th Master (the Delgado Master from the Pertwee era) had the same face though that was a regular regeneration + Curator Doctors looking like an elderly T.Baker doctor & elderly C.Baker Doctor respectfully so could just be a sort of always possible but improbable but otherwise normal regeneration In a first, the Doctor Who expanded Universe didn't wait for the new Doctors TV debut (such as 1st ep of a new series or minisode or Christmas Special or anything), instead, the TennantC Doctor made his canon debut in the Doctor Who Magazine Comic strip prequel to the 60th (at the moment on Part 4 out of 13), in a manner similar to Born Again with TennantA Doctor, called Liberation Of The Daleks. With Liberation Of The Daleks covering the new incarnation's first hour before the TV episodes air later in the year.

end of an era!! been on quite the rollercoaster with you two because we have many differing opinions (and many similar opinions!) but it’s been a fun ride nonetheless! would be interesting in seeing rewatches..some are completely different watching a second time so would definitely be fun. would also be interested in seeing ranking or opinion videos maybe? like ranking doctors, companions, series etc?

Has anyone else realised that YAZ achieved something no other companion ever has? Seriously, I have seen noone mention it, and I don't mean her flying the TARDIS to my knowledge, YAZ is the only companion to ever appear in the entire tenure of a single doctor incarnation, she was there for Jodies first and last, can anyone think of any other companion that achieved this?

My favorite Jodie story! To be honest, I wasn't looking forward to watching it but I am so glad I did. A great story! I bought the DVD of it for Christmas! Paula called it on the companion support group. 🙂 I ship Graham and Ace too! Trivia: the space train marshals were both on Broadchurch.

I have to say...this was not my favorite era of Dr Who (nothing to do with a female Doctor, the writing just wasn't for me). Bute despite that this was a great finale and seeing my Aussie home girl , Tegan made me soooo happy!!
