If you ever wonder why Spain produced so many amazing midfielders in the late 90s and early 2000s...it's because Michael Laudrup played in Spain during the 90s. He was the idol and inspiration for most of them. Alonso, Iniesta, Xavi, Silva - all of them loved and learned from Laudrup.

Xavi and iniesta’s idol and goat is Michael Laudrup even though they played whit a Young Messi and Ronaldinho Xavi Said it’s impossible to imposinate Messi and Ronaldinho because they never needed to train like all others they where Ready to handle buisness like they was born to do it but Michael Laudrup sadly missed out of the danish biggest sports triumph 92 euro do to a disagrement whit the coach cuz he wanted to be the man but didnt fit the system of defence contra type game but he was in his prime the best ever i Think he never lost a el classico for ether side Barcelona or real

Ballon d'or is worth nothing, because Michael never won it. When I watch the heroes of today and see the hysteria of generation fail... I get so bored. This man was the real deal, not a single red card in his career, no studio stunts or dives... just pure play. He was so good that he single handedly could change the entire game without even scoring. Thiery Henry even watch these videos of Michael once a month... when people mention the greatest without mentioning Michael I just walk away thinking....%#"¤%(¤/%#

Quotes on Michael Laudrup:- Romário: "The best player I have ever played with and the 4th best in the history of the game" Raúl: "The best I have ever played with." Zamorano: "Un genio!", "The reason why I make so many goals, is Laudrup." Iniesta: "Who is the best player in history? Laudrup." Messi: "I fully understand why he is considered one of the best players in Barcelonas history and even the world." Cruyff: "One of the most difficult players I have worked with. When he gives 80-90% he is still by far the best, but I want 100%, and he rarely does that." Cruyff (After Real Madrid with Laudrup had won 5-0 over Cruyff's Barcelona): "When Michael plays like a dream, a magic illusion, determined to show his new team his extreme abilities, no one in the world comes anywhere near his level." Cruyff (Cruyff on Laudrup's lack of killer instinct during matches): "Had Michael been born in a poor ghetto in Brazil or Argentina with the ball being his only way out of poverty he would today be recognised as the biggest genius of the game ever. He had all the abilities to reach it but lacked this ghetto-instinct, which could have driven him there." Platini: "One of the biggest talents ever. The best in the world on the training pitch, but never used his talent to its full during matches. Platini: "Michael had everything except for one thing: he wasn't selfish enough." Guardiola: "The best player in the world, I can't believe he hasn't won the title as best player." Beckenbauer: "Pelé was the best in the 60s, Cruyff in the 70s, Maradona in the 80s and Laudrup in the 90s." Roberto Galia: "I have played against Maradona, Platini and Baggio. But the player I saw do the most indescribable things was Michael Laudrup." Clemente: "To me, Michael Laudrup is the most genius player the world has ever seen. He will always be my numero uno. Always." Bakero: "No one has given the club [Barcelona] as much inspiration as Michael. We all look up to him. It is a privilege to have your day enriched by a genius." Koeman: "Michael was possibly the most skilful and elegant player I ever played with. Few could dribble like he could. He could sense when a game was ready to be seized and transformed by a moment of individual brilliance." Stoichkov: "One of the best European players I’ve ever seen. An elegant, old-fashioned playmaker, he did things few other footballers could do."

Cruyff and Platini had a point when saying that Michael Laudrup only showed his genious in glimpses and that he often lacked the drive you see from other great players. His talent was unquestionable and at his best he was unparalleled among his peers. And of course any afficianado would be frustrated not to see the full potential of Michael Laudrup, when Michael Laudrup - as he often did - chose not to show it.

I think that Johan Cruyff said it best after his Barcelona team had just been run over by Real Madrid 5-0 in Michael´s first El Classico for Real after the switch: "When Michael gives 80-90 percent, he´s still by far the best". His decision (in great part thanks to personal differences between the two at the time) not to play Laudrup in the 1994 Champions League final, where they lost 4-0 to AC Milan and it made Michael so mad that he left the club for their worst rivals, still has to stand as one of the worst manager decisions of all time. He´s still the only player to have won La Liga five times in a row with two different clubs, first four with Barca and then one with Real. Why he then decided while he was still at the peak of his career to waste a year of it playing in Japan after he left Real is one of those big headscratchers, you can´t quite explain!

Thanks for reacting honest to this. I am from Denmark. Growing up watching his whole career. I consider him the best playmaker, passer and most elegant player ever. If he had been better at defending and more selfish he could have been the best ever. But I truly miss players like him today.

He came from the golden period of Denmark in the 1980. A once journalist made an article" Behind every championship is a Danish starplayer" and it was almost true. National players from champion clubs of Italy(Verona), Germany (bayern), Belgion, England, Dutch and Spain. They knew whats is succesfull in football. They were called the Brazils of Scandinavia back then. They simply smashed big nations and you had a feeling they could score all they want. They were just being nice not to. What the Dutch were in the Seventies with Total football, Denmark was in Eightens. What they did against the South American champions Uruguay, they also did against other great nations. Best football I ever saw, when they got a goal ahead and started to play freely, omg. Some compared it with Basketball, Hold the ball in own field, then sudden 2-3 passes to a goal. sometimes they also did what was called to play with first touches with "heal and toe". Then the opponent just ran confused around and could not get the ball. Then all the fans shouted "OLE'" on every pass. They were so good at that so the trainer forbid that kind of play. Since the opponents may be panick with harch play and injour the players. But that is what Michael's play came from, it did not came from nothing. From experienced players and growth!!!

Laudrup never won it, I'm from Denmark I saw him play for the Danish national team aganist Sovjet 18 years old, And when he played old boys, he was out of this would, he invented the look away trick. He was the best and played for Lazio, Juventus, Baca, Real madrid, Vissel Kobe and Ajax.

Laudrup was up there with Messi, but not better. Messi is more clinical in front of goal, so I have Messi the better of the two, but Laudrup was most probably the best player in the 90ties, and Maradona in the 80ties, and Messi in the 10s.

AM is your favorite position? Same man let's goo. Spent all my teenage years watching Kaka, Fabregas and mainly Ozil to learn. It really embodies the "football is an art" concept. Not just in creativity, but in movement, spatial understanding, the intricacies are so profound in the game of an elite no 10. It's beautiful. And great reaction as usual mate. Take a like
