Reaction: Pink Floyd Empty Spaces/Young Lust 

Young Lust is one of the things used to fill the Empty Spaces. This album really should be listened to in its entirety and in order.

Nice Sarah, you need to hear the entire album when you can, then watch the movie after hearing the audio. Get lyrics to help but this would be such a great experience for you. It sure did for us and lucky to see the Wall when Roger Waters took it out about a decade ago. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎹🎤🎶

The whole album is about mental health. These two songs stand as a contrast between Roger's then wife Judy and Roger himself. Empty Spaces echoes how the main character has grown estranged from his wife. The empty spaces referring both to the gaps in Pink's wall as well as the empty space between he and his wife. The genesis of this facet of the album surrounds Roger Waters' divorce from his first wife Judy. While on tour in the US he placed a collect call home and a man answered the phone. This is recreated at the end of Young Lust. In Empty Spaces there is a backward recording of Roger speaking of this "secret message" he is then interrupted by engineer, James Guthrie, telling him his then wife Carolyne is on the phone. Contrary to his prior wife Judy, Roger takes the call. The import being that he, Roger, would never have treated his significant other in such a manner. Roger has said that the phone call incident was one of the worst experiences of his life and it is one of the bricks in Pink's wall. The contrast, or better yet the hypocrisy expressed in Young Lust is that being unfaithful to the wife at home is part of the landscape of the professional rocker. He should be held blameless all the while expecting faithfulness from his wife. Of course Pink is completely clueless that the empty space and his wife's infidelity are the result of his own actions. Pink's isolation is of his own choosing and not the fault of others as he would like to believe.

Gilmour on guitar and Nick Mason on drums are killing it!!. The bass wasn't to bad either!

A bit of the end got cut off. That phone call sequence, and what the operator said (an actual recording of an actual "in the dark" operator) are pretty important to the story.

Knowing these two songs go hand-n-hand and should/need be played together without pause is either lucky or learned. Nevertheless, Thank You. I'm all for watching the movie first but this endless argument of which to do first in their entirety, is akin to the peanut butter on my chocolate or chocolate in my peanut butter argument, both end up being delightful. It's not like anyone could ever fully understand each and every metaphor located within The Wall on their first go anyways. I do feel the more one understands the The Wall the more one moves from the movie and towards the more fluid album, replacing the visions the movie used to tell this massive story with ones of their own personal memories. As for a suggestion for two songs to play back to back I cross the line and request 4. Waiting For The Worms, Stop, The trial and Outside The Wall. Peace/JT

: } a great reaction to one of the greatest bands of all times, for sure this is and there's no question about it. State theater in Easton Pennsylvania, At one time they use to do a pink floyd laser light show there and it was awesome. Don't know if they still do it yet but if you ever got a chance please check it out.

Hi a brilliant album definitely but checkout the movie version of "Empty Spaces" which seques into a longer version of "What shall we do now" ? [ not written on album track list ] The animation is for adults but you will hear the difference apart from being longer, it has a very effective echo during "What shall we do now" ? which I prefer to the studio version.... Also on their live album "Is there anybody out there ? The Wall Live 1980 - 81 " they do the same as the movie version but without any screams....That album is brilliant by the way. The cover is 4 flesh coloured face masks of each band member which they wore doing this live concert ... but they did not wear their own mask....and confused the audience as to who was who ? Especially when they took the masks off. Lol. Good reaction. I hope you get to hear the full album.

Yep definitely should be done as an entire album, but picking a track.... Think I'd say "Hey You" You should have the lyrics to hand if possible (we did when we put the vinyl on the turntable back in the day) 😉

Reacting to individual songs on a Pink Floyd album (especially The Wall) is like commenting on that scene in a movie when the man leaves his car and enters a building. It makes no sense if you don't see the whole work.

Russian or Czech? Just curious. They seem to dominate the influencer crowd, especially from Canada.

The Gilmour guitare and voice in Young Lust is.......I don't find the correct words to describe.......

As good as this is, the version from the.movie is so much better.
