Hello and welcome to this weird crevasse of the internet where we get really excited about music (particularly Taylor Swift) and break down our favourite albums and songs. I also prefer the one on the album. I felt like the empty space made the song all the more special and when that space was filled with the orchestra it made it feel not as special or emotional. Will definitely keep listening to the one on the album!

I feel like this version matches the emotion of the song better. The song isn't a fairytale. The song is about how everything is wrong and she doesn't belong there and she wants him to take her to the lakes but not about actually being there and having the life she wants. Like I like the album version better probably and I think it suits the album better but overall I think this vibe is more what the song actually is because it isn't fairytale (althought I definitely don't feel peace from the album production or fairytale vibe so :D but yes, more than from this).

Total 1989 vibes, drum beat reminds me of the heartbeat rhythm from wildest dreams and the video keeps going behind the trees and then comes back out of the woods.

"That's not it" "Thank you so much for saying it before me" 😂 I agree. That's not it, and not only as an album track, but as a stand-alone song as well. I love strings, but I don't think this version captured the energy of the lyrics. It seems to me this is one of those cases where less means more. Also, hearing the original version just highlights how good Taylor is at what she does. She always knows when her work is already complete and when she can still draw on every drop of her creativity to sculpt perfection. I still love that we're getting the original one tho! And I really liked the additional verse at the end.

this version made me fall in love with 'the lakes'. but it definitely doesnt fit on folklore. I'm glad we have it now though. i had to listen to the song before watching this reaction so thanks for making me do that. i probably wouldnt have otherwise because the lakes (folklore edition) is one of my least favourite taylor songs tbh

Totally agree with you folks! The real version is so much better at capturing the feeling of the song! You get the soft intro and it builds and makes the bridge that much more powerful! The change throughout is so necessary and tugs on my heartstrings, whereas this one is too much and you don’t get the build in the same way! Also yes please to long pond sessions!!! I was surprised but I actually prefer this version, I always felt like the album version of this song was off when I listened to it so it’s been in my bottom for folklore but this fixed everything for me 😭 but I see what everyone’s saying! I personally like this version a smidge more. I always felt like the original lakes had opportunity to drop a bit more in the chorus. I do, however, think this version drops TOO hard for the delicate story telling. Lol love you guys 🤍

Does anyone else think that her latest Instagram post is an Easter egg for something that will happen in August? Either a re-recording or maybe some sort of announcement. I may be clowning myself here but I still believe Taylor is going to release 1989 (TV) in August. Her mention of salt air and Augustine is her directly pointing out August (the song) but knowing Taylor’s mind also August (the month).

I got the same impression that it sounded like born to die! Listen up though, I feel like this production makes the song sound more like Out of the Woods vibe, this sort of upbeat escapism. However, I think that in Folklore, Taylor wanted to escape from that popstar lifestyle, thus stripping down this song, making it take a whole other meaning and leaving her old pop music aside. Out of the woods is more anxious, reflecting her life of extreme fame at the time, whereas the lakes just wants to stay right there where she is, it’s much more peaceful and almost grateful for the stillness of her life in the pandemic, wanting it to continue forever. It’s a continuation of relaxing, imaginative escapism rather than the act of anxiously running away itself.

This version is AMAZING however, as you said, for the album the other version fits better. I personally love both, but again this version is a 'stand-alone' like to me it would have felt wrong if this were in the album

First, an apology. I thought your girls were British. I hope you weren't too offended by that. Secondly, I've seen only the first couple of minutes, and while French toast (that is what you're eating, right?) might be a propos during winter (you're in the dead of your winter, right?), but here in Manitoba, Canada, in the middle of the frickin continent, we're under something they call a heat dome. It's 35 degrees C right now (95F) 'and it's brutal. The only food that makes sense as I sit down to watch your reaction, is Black Cherry ice cream with chocolate shavings. The grasshoppers are destroying my garden, those ravenous little dinosaur insects, but there's new/old Taylor music to watch you lose your minds to. Bon appetit!

I agree 100%. I like to hear the process but Taylor was right, this needed to be scaled back. And I agree with Emily, I don’t like the remixes. I’ll listen to the 90’s trend version of Willow, but all these remixes in my mind are unnecessary. Taylor knows what she wants in a song, she has a vision. You guys nailed it. That reminds me of an interview with Liz Rose about writing with Taylor when she was 14 and even at age 14 Taylor had a vision in mind for her songs. That’s the way she wants it, and anyone who tried to take it in another direction (because Taylor was 14 and a woman/girl) never worked with her again. She knows what she wants but like you guys pointed out, it’s interesting to see part of the process getting there. Evermore? Please. Long Pond? Oh yes! It’s just so good. And just think, it will be eligible for Grammy this year.

although you can see how the production was more "simpler" and appropriate, i love this version so much, from the loop of the garden, and lyrics, it almost does remind me more of a gardenia atmosphere which is what i expected more to feel it from the original, love it so much :)

I am totally sickened, I was supposed to go to go to Port Salon and Ballymastocker beach the same day they were there, but due to some miscommunication, ended up on the equally lovely Carrickfinn beach on the opposite side of Donegal. Probably wouldn't have seen her anyway as the beach is huge.
