I believe he died and this song is a whisper to his beloved from the other world. At the end, it's as if you can even hear his last breath. And the whole song is a gentle distant whisper that leaves you with the feeling of something irreparable and irrevocably past. This scenario explains why Dimash sings in a whisper throughout the song. I really like the song and the video too. And Dimash is stunning, as always.

Alina Veripya (the video director) created 4 scenarios for the MV, and Dimash picked this one. She described the idea behind it : “This is a very beautiful and deep love story that takes place during the years of Stalin’s repressions. In this horror, in this piercing cold, in this crime, the love of two people is born, as if they did not come from this world. And they are so pure, so beautiful in their feelings, that no darkness can extinguish this light." On the question of location, the team made an unanimous decision to shoot the MV in St. Petersburg, because no other city could convey the flavor of the harsh and terrible year of > 1937. Dimash establishes the timeline - "we found each other" first, then "now you are with someone else". Their love story is invaded, and broken by NKVD (old name for KGB), representatives of the regime`s power, who could pick on you for any reason, take anything from you, throw you in jail, legally execute you, and even assassinate you, shoot you in the back. The officer represents power, so he can claim anything he wants, and he can get away with anything. Beauty of love, purity, and evil`s attempt to destroy it, in a harsh era in history. It`s not about forbidden love, it`s about the attitude of evil towards good and love, and it`s attempt to >make< them forbidden ; to reduce a "world full of color" down to only "a flash in the sky". The switch back and forth between images of the happy couple and images of the girl being pestered by the NKVD officer, has the purpose of highlighting the contrast between the sun-lit beauty of good and love, and the grim-colored ugliness of evil intentions. Our hero and his girl try to accept the forced separation between them, the new "definition" of happiness under the abusive regime, but they can`t bear nonsense forever, and they try to escape it. The subject of the story is the fate of beauty, good and purity under an oppressive regime, and the self-entitlement of evil, that puts it`s brutal stamp over it, with the gunshot. The screen going black before the gunshot helps keep the focus on the attitude of evil, who doesn`t know to do anything other than hurt, successfully or not. That gunshot remains ringing in the dark, making it timeless, leaving us with a bitter taste, and making it a powerful reminder of historical regime brutality. Disclaimer : what I wrote after the quote from dimashnews (Alina Veripya`s words, and the reason for choosing the location) - is my interpretation, based on Dimash`s previous use of history portrayal with his songs. (Samaltau - russian empire forcefully drafting young men from occupied countries to shed their blood ; Daididau - poem of a kazakh poet imprisoned and executed by the soviet regime). And based on my own experience with such history, living in a country who suffered under occupation and the brutality of stalinism decades ago. (my own great-grandparents and grandparents spent time in prison, for reasons from borrowing a french book under a soviet regime, to owning land earned by hard work) This is why I believe that the focus of the ending is the actions of evil, suspending the gunshot in the dark - and not who the NKVD agent managed to hit or not.

We need don't forget it, if we would like not to repeat it... Every year, May 31 in Kazakhstan is celebrated as a Day of Remembrance for the Victims of Political Repressions and Famine. It helps to once again remember the past of the Kazakh people, honor the memory of the fallen heroes and appreciate their independence. The same repressions were in 1937 in all countries which later became independent from the USSR...

Dear Sabina, How nice to see once again a reaction from you to a Dimash song. I have to admit that at the beginning I was quite disappointed by this song, I didn't find any access (probably it was mainly because I had a completely different expectation of this song, because I knew that it was written by Igor Krutoy - you know: big orchestration, Dimash's voice like a firework and so on...). With the appearance of the accompanying video, I found more access. It was as if the individual pieces of a puzzle were put in their right place. The extremely expressive and aesthetic images of the video, but also the translation of the lyrics helped me to gradually enjoy the song more and more. And now Dimash's gentle whispering gives me the goosebumps that I kind of sorely missed at the beginning. In the meantime I can almost feel his breath on the skin of my neck. That’s a side of Dimash I have not seen before..no vocal gymnastics, just a fairly simple delivery but with considerable style. Judging by the clothing and scenery, I’m guessing this is Russia in the 1930’s while under Stalin’s rule. Suitably bleak surroundings highlighted by some quality camera angles. Story telling in video either works or it fails miserably. For me, it worked thus delivering a powerful story of life under a tyrannical regime where your life was seldom your own. I liked it. Sabina…a considered and appropriate reaction with a look of WTF after the gun shot…it’s difficult to smile at videos like this given the theme.

Sabina, excellent choice as always. The disturbing part of this video is also when this cold dark dispassionate man comes in to take his wife. Her despair is so deep that she almost resembles him. Contrasting when she was with her lover, Dimash. As always, excellent review by you, excellent performance by the singer and beautiful video created by those that do such things. i've said it in other reactions, but this reminds me of the movie "v for vendetta" particularly the raid on the female couple, and then again later on with the guy helping the main girl (natalie portman). haunting, yet beautiful, unable to love because of corruption and greed.

There is an assumption that the military man shot himself. I couldn't let go, I couldn't live with it. Or a military man shot in the air.... The clip is so ambiguous! It is also confusing that Dimash is acting here as a hypothetical man. He sings from the perspective of this military man who is struggling to come to terms with the fact that his beloved no longer loves him. And how he did it is left to the discretion of the viewer.

Hi, I'm from Germany and I'm trying to make Dimash better known here. I have 2 online radio stations. If. But I didn't want to do any unauthorized advertising here and therefore first asked whether you were interested in the links and information.

This video is set in 1937 during the Stalinist purges. The secret police had total power. They executed millions of people--not just their political enemies, but also ethnic minorities who they considered "untrustworthy." This video shows he is a musician and she is a dancer. Musicians, dancers, and artists were among those falsely accused of crimes and executed. Dimash as the hero perhaps represents both of these categories and, if born in those times he could have been in this position as a musician. His song Daididau was written by a Kazakh dissident writer, poet, scientist and teacher, Mazhan Zhumabaev, who was arrested and murdered during one of these purges in 1938. History if not remembered can repeat itself. This kind of oppression should never happen again, and yet it still occurs around the world today. Our ancestors speak through DImash, and we should listen.

It's a fine reaction, but not complete. The time in history is missed. Remember: it's written by Krutoy, Nikolaev and sang by Dimash. These three would've never come together to create just a tender song. You might though come back to it after learning that this is about love during Stalin's repressions, the fragility of it, etc. Good luck:)

Interesting to think of this song as soothing when it culminates with violence and death. I like the music, but I don't think the video suits the song. Sounds sweet and loving; visually very dark. Male domination and violence. Uck. Dimash with this? I don't get it.
