I like the final message of the album, "I feel you" it really does feel like they made a song for the people who don't feel as included or wanna be "cooler"
SOYEON about Queencard: SY said, "When I wrote the song 'Queencard' I thought to make it look like a hard comedy movie ," adding, "Y2K is popular these days, and I wanted to bring a music drama format that was popular in the 2000s."
The whole vid was a fever dream of Soyeon's. In the end, it was as though the girls were the one's performing the surgery (their dancing matching the surgeons, and Miyeon's appearance), and she woke up from her "Alice Dream", and backed out. 'Cause she's a Queen already.
(G)I-DLE's ability to release something that is a great subject for a 2 hour video essay and simultaneously just a banger that you can enjoy rocking out to is why they are one of the best Kpop groups. I was very interested to hear Kaia's thoughts on this song and when I saw the video was over 30 minutes, I knew we were in for a great video. This is possibly my favorite video from Kaia. The discussion and breakdown are fantastic. You wouldn't expect a video about a song with the line "I'm twerking on the runway" to make you cry, but that's the beauty of both (G)I-DLE and Kaia.
man, I just love how you always grasp the essence of songs and MVs and put them into words. I often have a vague understanding of what I think about MVs but you're reactions and interpretations are incredibly helpfull to structure my thoughts. I think that while Allergy and Queencard is certainly female centric (especially for younger girls) the message itself is universal. No matter who you are, you can be the most vanilla person in the world, you've probably wanted to fit in or envied someone else because they did or had something you didn't. Allergy deals with the pain of that, and how you're so in your own head that you can't see that everyone else is JUST like you. Queencard is the encouragement. Try being yourself and loving who you are and things will be okay. When Soyeon learns this lesson she realizes that all the people she looked up to were just people as well. They did appreciate her, she just didn't see it. So I think this is a topic that works for everyone, not just young girls. We spend so much time in our own head worried about what others think about us only to realize that no one cares because they are too busy freaking in their own heads. It's a stage we all go through.
They just never miss, huh? I absolutely LOVE (G)I-DLE's genre of songs that's just "women are pretty great, huh?" got me wanting to strut and shit, we love that for me
I'm a big fan of Queencard and the album as a whole. The song and MV are wild but also very interesting. I very much enjoyed hearing your thoughts on the song and the message around both MV's for this and Allergy, it was very heartfelt and insightful.
i really appreciate your talk after the second mv watch. gender, identity, body image, anxiety, and so on. thank you for sharing this with us. and i'm happy that gidle provided an opportunity for these things to be talked about. i think soyeon likes to make her music gender neutral sometimes. she wants to touch a lot of people. but she's also talking about her own experiences (as well as the other members') and hers just isn't going to cover the entire spectrum of people. it's impossible. but the times where she can... i really do think she's the kind of person the 'idol' thing relates to. the kpop industry may be actively changing the definition of an 'idol' to one of a porcelain doll, but soyeon's out here trying to tell and show everyone that it's okay *not* to idolize her. like you said earlier on about soyeon having pieces of herself in the other members. there are some things you may relate to or identify with, and some things you can't. but that doesn't make *you* bad or wrong. it just makes you *you.* and that isn't a bad or wrong thing to be.
your talk at the end really resonated with me !! im literally the same- except i gave up on figuring out my exact gender label so i just say my gender is also lesbian haha but for me i use they/them mostly & like he/him as well. for me allergy hit hard bc it was like who i used to be- trying so hard to fit into this hyperfeminine box that was never me wearing shit i didnt really like always feeling like smth was wrong but never knowing WHAT. hating myself bc i felt WRONG. allergy made me CRY. queencard to me is FREEDOM. the freedom to be you & embrace yourself. you don’t have to be like anyone else- just be you & you’ll find ppl who love you for you🫶🏻

i love the 2000s teen movie references in the mv, the dance battle is very White Chicks and the style is so Mean Girls. i saw a tiktok of what a queencard means in korea too and it makes more sense too! the lyrics are pretty tongue in cheek too and old kpop fun unserious vibes! i love idle

I also feel the same, as people I-DLE I find them put such a great role model because they validate us as we are, they do since day one and continue more and more powerfully more strongly

Thanks for being so vulnerable towards the end. I too struggle with my self image when it comes to wheight issues. For a variety of reasons my body just can't do skinny 😂 . And what you said about being at peace with who you are exactly as you are is something that got me thinking. PEACE is the word there. How one looks shouldn't be a "problem" . As long as you are being healthy, eating well and nourishing yourself, moving your body because endorphines, persuing your own happiness howevere that feels like for you, then why shouldn't you feel at PEACE? It makes no sense. Well there you go: at the end of the MV my motto would be I FEEL PEACE 😅😘

I feel this MV showed both sides of the transformation. Both getting the surgery and also at end not getting it. We saw how Soyeon was in the shoes of Minnie. While she got all the attention she wanted, but she was originally doing it to get closer to Yuqi and Shuhua, to be friends with them. And Miyeon just wanted to be closer to Minnie? Or maybe saw her as a rival. Idk need captions for deeper analysis. But i personally dont think the MV can be summed up to "dont get surgery, you dont need it" cuz that feels kinda shallow, and thats not Soyeon

I almost never question myself as girl-woman or wanting to be boy-man, I'm and always was a proud girl-woman with boyish-man-ish traits/manners. At some point though I questioned myself about my orientation, am I straight or bi? But now I don't care I am who I am, and love who I love
Also I don't think anyone mentioned it but with the Soyeon being everyone thing, it happens also on the first chorus where Soyeon is singing it BUT the video shows Minnie dancing and lip syncing to it, as if Soyeon was in Minnie's body.
idk if anyone else has mentioned this, but a fun fact about the title is that in Korean, 'card' is written as '-ka' which makes the title 'Queen-Ka' which, if you've been consuming Korean content for as long as I have, you'll remember was an old school way of referring to the hottest, most popular girl in school/university/work etc. Back in 2016 my old coworker in Korea told me that when he was young he was a King-Ka (the male version) and aside from me being like "woah, I haven't heard anyone say that in about 10 years!" I was suspicious of the claim. He was extremely kind and very respectful and caring towards me and the students, but a looker he was not aha
