I set up a Discord: discord.gg/VHRyVWvh On my previous video where I reacted to Volker Pispers, some people mentioned that the subtitles/translations were very bad and recommended I set up a Discord and they can provide better subtitles. I'll be honest, I really have no idea how to use Discord, so I am not sure how that would even work but thought I would set one up anyway. I originally set up my account for Discord in 2020 for some reason but never used it. If anyone wants to let me know how it works and what I can use it for, I would be very appreciative. I am honestly quite tech savvy but Discord has just never been something I have attempted to use before, so I'm a little lost haha. So please let me know if there are cool things I can do with it for my channel and I look forward to connecting with some of you over there. Cheers!!

@@azeplayt4546 the subtitles _here_ were done by a human, but in the Pispers video they were really cringeworthy (and not just with the jokes) - obviosly done with some _very_ crappy translator software. Even the automated RU-vid translation (that has to do voice recognition first!) was better, despite it struggling with German dialect and colloquialisms.

the most funny thing with the last part is, that this is not staged. The show has two feared and famous "outdoor reporters" - Fabian Köster and Lutz van der Horst - they do real interviews with politcians and both are so smart making these interviews a comedy of it's own - by surpising their discussion-partner. Some politicians in Germany meanwhile start fleeing when they recognize one of these reporters.

I personally think a big problem for him as well as Westerwelle before him is that he gets his speeches written for him but his comprehension of the english language isn´t so great that he can simply read it out loud. Imho he should´ve done more preperation on his speeches: learning pronunciation of words, even their meaning and trying to re-write his speech into his own ductus so it´s sounds less awful and "fake".

The key difference between the British parliament and the European parliaments, such like the German, is that in the British is very much set up for conflict. By facing each other, a culture of shouting at each other is being promoted. In Germany, the seating is arranged in a semi-circle, facing the president of the parliament (which in the British system is The Speaker). MPs speaking up in the debate walk into the centre of the semi-circle and speak from a podium, facing all of the sitting MPs. In the British system, they stand up and speak from where they happen to sit. European parliaments also tend to assemble in buildings that have more than enough and allocated seating for all the MPs - the House of Commons has benches because it doesn't fit all members, because the room is too small. All of these factors promote the rowdy atmosphere in the HoC, which is alien to most of the European parliaments (with the exception of Italy 🙂)
@adrians8249
@adrians8249 11 месяцев назад
And I think it's also mentionable that in Germany, there is limited time to speak for each MP in the center. Ofc, there's some harassement or trying to fool the speaker by shouting sth to the center, but only few words and if someone disturbs the speaker too much, he can be kicked out for that day by the president. And the MP in the center has a microphone ofc, while the others at there seats haven't one.

The German parliament is very different from the British one. The decision finding process and the working mechanisms in general are completely different. There are also more parties in the German parliament. Currently, there are members of 7 parties in the parliament, 8 if you count the Union as two parties. As a result, the government usually also consists of more than one party. So you don't just have the "two sides" that you find in the British parliament.
@ohauss
@ohauss 10 месяцев назад
The British parliament actually has a sizeable number of parties, not the least due to regional parties. But the FPTP system in the individual constituencies makes for the fact that basically, each constituency comes down to a race between the two most important parties in that constituency, as any vote for someone without a chance of winning is basically throwing the vote away. The tragic consequence is that you don't even need support from the larger part of the electorate as such - you can get a seat n parliament even when two thirds of the electorate voted for someone else, as long as their votes are divided so as to not give anyone more votes. And that holds true not just on the level of the individual constituency, but also nation-wide. The Tories got a large parliamentary majority while having just over a third of the popular vote at times. CGP Grey made a good video a few years ago how the British electoral system removes the outcome of elections from the actual will of the electorate dramatically on the occasion of an election 8 years ago.

From my German perspective of the British Parliament, it's very combative and very entertaining. Now one can be of the opinion that a parliament should not be entertaining, but serious. German parliamentary sessions are a bit boring and follow some trotted path too much. However I think it's difficult to compare the two parliaments due to the significant differences of the democratic systems between the UK and Germany. It's already visually perceivable that the British system is designed more for a confrontation between a majority side supporting the government and the opposition by their benches facing each other directly. In the German parliament, the Bundestag, all seats are aligned towards the lectern of the currently speaking person and the person presiding the session. Possibly the head of a session has more powers to remove persons from a session if they disturb a session too much or interrupt a speaker without permission. Actually the Bundestag looks more similar to the French assemble nationale but I can't tell how many similarities there are with the French counterpart.

Like the facemask wearing in public areas during Corona, the amount of legal grams for Weed your allowed to carry with you (Bavaria ist the only one with 0.000 grams and in the Western and northern Germany people smoke in public next to the Police and dont get arrested... ) or other legal regulations can be more or less strictly regulated in each "Bundesland".

@@UlliStein same here in Germany.. people making decisions and talking about things which they have not the smallest idea of. And this will have serious consequences for all of us (New energy law and ban of combuston engines in the future for example) The stupidity of few threatens the life of all, thats one danger of democracy. But its the best we have. People in Germany know that the Brexit was not the decision of the most Brits. Hopefully our all future will not bring more problems because of that

Oh yes.... The neverending story and the insanity of some leading politicians was so disgusting. At one point making fun out of this mess was the only way to deal with this... But to be honest, frustrating politicians are everywhere ^^

OK first of I can see you're evolving - your commentary gets better every time. Way more engaging!! The way you respond to certain things is very thoughtful or funny sometimes and really adds something to the source you're using. Big improvement there!! Keep going. Greetings from Germany PS: heute show is also known for whacking German things: like public transportation or German parties. Everybody gets trashed. And if you still want recommendations I give you: - Das Boot (1990s, a German film about a German submarine and crew in WWII. I think it won an Oscar. Or multiple? Idk) - anything the "ZDF" and "Arte" have produced if you're looking for educational (German TV program. Tells you all about culture/history you ever needed to know) - however, if you're looking for something funny I'd recommend you "Torsten Sträter" - he's a comedian. From the Ruhrgebiet (a very specific type of West Germany). He was in first season of "LOL", you should look that up. Although I'm not sure of subtitles? I'll write them just so you can react

One correction (hyphen for better understanding): 3:49 A „Brennpunkt-Schule“ is by far NOT a primary school (ger. Grundschule), more like a very deprived school (a lot of violence, attacks on teachers etc.).

Before reunification, the german Bundestag was situated in Bonn. The discussions there got very heated sometimes. Heckling was some sort of art! I want to mention the first class vulgarities from the two opposing F.J.Strauß(CSU) and Herbert Wehner(SPD)! Nowadays in Berlin it is mostly rather boring. No passion - just shallow bla bla.

At this time the debates of the uk parliament were broadcasted live on TV in Germany and I remember that we Germans asked us if this is for real or a Monty Phyton Show. But yeah the German Bundestag is not even better. It's a mupped show. Therefor there are much Videos on RU-vid called "Best of Bundestag".

Edit: 1."Brennpunktschule" was translated with "primary school" which is wrong. 1. means a school with a history of bad publicity,like violence or drug related offenses, often these are schools in districts with a very low median income and a very divers population.

The British Parliament looks indeed very weird and funny to outstanders. I remember the one guy, who tried to "stea"l the rod, that represents the crown and just couldn't believe it. That being said, it is one of the oldest parliaments in europe and kept a lot of the old traditions. Germany is a young republic and for that has a modern building and a modern constitution. But even here, there are funny habits and tradition in parliament.

There are a few translation errors or inaccuracies: "Brennpunktschule" is not primary school - it is a School with trouble. "Baldrian-Bundestag" is anything but a benzodiazepine Bundestag. Valerian is used as a sedative, but it is not a benzodiazepine.

"Die toten Augen von London" (The dead eyes of London) is a famous trhiller (or rather "Krimi") from the 60s based on a book by Edgar Wallace. Germany produced almost 40 of these flicks for the local market: all of the actors were German (with few exceptions) and the stories were set in England. This is what the fictious title refers to, not some kind of Romero-esque zombie flick.

Our Bundestag is not nearly as noisy and chaotic as the british parliament. They have its moments but even our loud moments are still harmlessly quiet against the UK one. It's mostly rather boringly quiet. The parties presents ideas, the AFD are the donkeys and otherwise everyone sleeps there.
