To give a rough sense of how well we nordics people understand each other... imagine if swedish was england-english, norwegian was de-scottified scottish-english, danish was unbridled scottish-english, finnish was gaeilge, and icelandic old english (as in beuwolf era). While not exactly correct (for instance england-english has A LOT more influence in scotland than swedish has in the rest of the nordics) it is enough to give a sense of it.

I would ad (why Swede's in general, speak so good English) is because when we watch foreign movies we never "dubb" the movies, we always use text instead. So we hear English spoken all the time =)

Not true as regards skin colour of Swedes - the vast majority of Swedes are indeed white. During the past few decades there's been a fairly big influx of people from Africa and Asia though, so not every Swedish citizen has a light skin colour.

Sweden and Denmark has a history of hate. Some think that France and England have been the countries that have had the most conflicts. But their wars pale in comparison to the amount of wars that has been fought between Denmark and Sweden. The countries have fought each other for centuries and hold the record for most wars fought between them. It all adds up to around 30 wars since the 15th century. However, that is mostly in the past and nowadays there's no real hostility between the nations. All the nordic countries have kind of a sibling rivalry instead, and have strong bonds.

A Swede here. I´d say that all Scandinavians are polite and perhaps somewhat friendly. For being reserved, I think the Finns are the most reserved, the second place is shared by Sweden/Norway and the most outgoing are the Danes. The Danes have a closer connection to Europe than any of the other Scandinavian countries. BUT. If you do get along really well and become friends with a Scandinavian person, you will have a friend for life. They will keep you and most likely be there also when times get rough. I think Swedes are good at English, yes. Two reasons: we learn it from an early age in school and movies are NOT dubbed (as for example in Germany). There is also the internet. We simply get exposed to a lot of English all the time. I have lived in Vienna for the last nine years, and Swedes are often really good at English when compared with other nationalities. Danes tend to be fairly good too, but often excel in German.

Yes! I feel safe. I live in Stockholm. There's been recent upticks in bizarre gang violence among teenagers. Some collateral damage, misfires, wrong victims and such. It's been a weird year, 2023. I know a few friends who recently immigrated who are concerned from reading about the daily teenage murders in the news, but it's not statistically more crime than before. It's a very complicated situation. However, I live my life EXACTLY as I always did. 7

Sweden is a social democratic country which isn't the same as socialist country. Swedes are white generally unless you are of mixed ethnicity or has gotten a swedish citizenship or been adopted. Overall the majority of the people living in sweden is white. A skincolor that is white during the winter but has the opportunity to get really dark if you are living in a warm country, like thailand for example. I would say compared to other caucasian people, he nordic people including sweden have a gene that makes them tan easier, deeper and keep the tan longer than other white people. Sweden is a very safe country. Sure we have areas that more crime or drugs or violent acts are being committed, typically areas where alot of immigrants are living. But I doubt a tourist would visit those alone in the middle of the night and see anything but a quiet evening anyway. Swedes are considered on the taller side compared to most countries in the world, not 10 tallest countries though. Swedes are generally friendly, but shy and a bit reserved. but it depends on the age of the person you meet and if they are confident in their english or not. Even if swedes speak English really well, many people especially young and old think it's embarassing to speak another language in front of others. We also have this thing that we feel we are expected to sound accent-free but also we don't want to take on another countries accent so that's tricky.

Sweden is very safe but we have gang related shootings these days which we haven't had before. The murder ratio for normal people has decreased with f.e. fewer women being killed by their partners than in the 90:s. So for me it is actually safer today. As a woman I am not afraid to walk around alone at night and I've been to a lot of "unsafe" areas and felt perfectly safe.

The majority of native swedes are white of the nordic type; the stereotypical viking type. White people in eastern Europe are mostly slavic, but a lot of their genes are also nordic since the vikings settled in many places in that area just like the did in northern France (Normandy means 'northern mans' because of this) and in many parts of Britain, Scotland and Ireland; which is also one of the reasons the majority of brits, scots, welsh and irelanders are of that pale white complexion. Southwestern Europe (France, Spain and Portugal mostly) were mixed with middle eastern and north African genes during a few centuries around the time the Roman empire was active so those white people have a darker tone; latin-like, one could say. And in central Europe its a complete mix of everything. Adding to this has of course been immigration and some slave trading a few centuries ago (and of course the migrant wave of 2015) that has brought african, asian, jewish and arabic blood into Europe. So, in conclusion, most of Europe is populated by whites of different variants, but there is plenty of pretty much every other ethinc group as well. Also, Sverige: Svea rike which means 'realm of the Svear'. Svear was the old name for the people that would become swedes. During the viking age all of the nordic countries were run in small tribal kingdoms and it wasnt until the middle ages that they unified in greater areas.

Why swedish people are so good at english comes from trade partners. Denmark, norway and finland all target sweden (and to a degree eqtch other) as trade partners. People from denmark and norway understand swedish, and people from finland learn swddish in school. Sweden since well really several undered years back target larger nations. During the 18 century it was france, during 19 it was mostly germany and 20 it was mostly UK. Sweden is still sort of a small country so everyone suposed be part of the trade effort. And its not only school but also a emersion in media. Something that is sort of special in sweden is if you going into a technical education you have to choise a third country to target the normal primary choice is germany and france. But spain italy, russia and japan have been pretty popular as well. Its also fairly common thst enginner will spend 3 month or one year studying or woring in there target country. This is fairly common but not quite universial. I been just two short terms in south africa and germany. My brother was on short in usa. My sister was one short in canada and uk and a full year in germany and one year in switzerland. While its not universial its really wuite common. Even for people that dont have a university degree. For instance in my highschool clas last year there was 3 people thst done at least one full year avbroad. (One in japan one in canada and one in usa). We also one year had a dude from australia going in my class for a year.

Before answering these questions, I don't know how old this video is, but since the guy mentioned an election I'm assuming it's at least one year old. 1. Sweden is not socialist per se. There is a difference between socialism and social democracy (which is what we have in Sweden). 2. Sweden is currently (November 2023) safe-ish. There is currently a major internal conflict in one of the organized crime syndicates in Sweden. This conflict has claimed innocent lives due to mistaken identity. Our jails are operating at a 110-115% capacity. We have also had issues with leading politicians making "clumsy" statements in the media. 3. The female national soccer team is doing really well. The men, not so much. 4. Sweden has applied for NATO membership, but Turkey is delaying the ratification process. I believe Hungary is also involved in the delay. 5. Sweden is an expensive country to live in. In the past year, the cost of utilities (electricity in particular) has skyrocketed. The price of food has also increased significantly. Sure, we don't have the added expenses of childcare, school, and healthcare, but we pay for it in other ways. 6. Agree. 7. Agree. 8. Agree. 9. Swedes are friendly once you get to know them. They are not prone to approach other people and initiate a conversation if they don't know the person. 10. Agree. 11. Sweden is not a rich country, not anymore. 12. What he said. 13. No comment. 14. Sweden is a "long" country and there is a big difference between the southern parts and the northern parts. This goes for climate, nature, culture, etc. 15. See no. 14. 16. Hundreds of years ago, the southern part of Sweden was contested territory, and Sweden and Denmark fought many battles over this piece of land. Denmark eventually lost control of the land, and it has been part of Sweden ever since. It could also be that other countries mock Denmark out of jealousy. 17. We do start teaching children English at an early age. We are also exposed to a lot of English-speaking entertainment. 18. What he said. 19. Agree. 20. I think it depends. People from the middle to northern parts of Sweden might have an easier time understanding Norwegian since they are more exposed to the language than someone from the southern parts of Sweden. 21. Similar to the previous question, people from the southern parts of Sweden have an easier time understanding Danish than people from the northern parts due to more exposure. 22. Icelandic is very different from the other Nordic languages. It is also the language most similar to the language spoken by the Vikings.

The Sweden, Denmark war rivalry was bad.. We started to fight in 1276 and have been fighting in open wars more or less for 29 years over the course of 7 wars. Think it was around 1710 when the open wars ended.. Then we had a kind of cold war from 1710 until 1828 we got together and brokered a lasting peace. Yes there are still tension between us.. 200+ years later.. But it resides mostly in the lower and middle parts of Sweden Northen Sweden is not really Sweden in that sense. Ive been taking the bike in most areas of Malmö, Helsingborg and Gothenburg (swedens 2nd city) So yes Sweden is pretty safe in many ways But there are almost 3 times more rapes in Sweden (63,4) per 100.000 people compared to the UK (27,3). Denmark only has 6,8 (though the danish police thinks the real number are 10 times higher). So is Denmark 10 times more safe compared to Sweden, or is it less of a taboo to report a rape to the police? For normally the figures between Denmark and Sweden are close

I guess the answers you get depends on who you're asking. This boy seems to me be a bit on the left himself, depending on his answers. And his knowledge about things is maybe not that deep. Now, this may be my misconception about the young ones. Good news is there is so much to learn, one lifetime is not enough. Now, there is left or right people they have a bit different opinions about many things. I'd say Sweden is not what it was when I was young(er). But then again this goes for any given time in history. I spend some time with books. Meeting people all over the world. And the history go all the way back to prehistoric times. Indeed they saw a very different world. But also we have so much in common. They had to eat and sleep and dreamed about love and a good life. And so often fath wanted something else. War and politics seems to be part of our DNA. Then we have climate shiftings, as long as there has been a planet actually. Nothing new under the sun. 10 000 years back in time, small groups of people was following the melting ice into our penincilla. They was living of the nature. They had to be tuff and smart. And they had to have social skills. They had to have clothes and tools and find shelter. They had a religion, a way of understanding. No one wrote it down. People spread to almost every part of the world. Even the very cold or hot ones. My theory is, it was because of politics and maybe even war. There is no people who are not connected to other people. No boundaries that hasn't shifted. No language, no religion who hasn't been influenced. That said we have to stand strong and defend our land, our freedom and what we have today. In a way, we got so far, and still so much is the same.

The saftey in sweden is very uneven. Just because you can walk into a area once with out being robbed or beaten up donr prove it safe. Specilly since that is not universial. Still, i would say it seams that the safty issu is finaly taken seriusly. The main proble is denail of the problem, hence not doing anything about them, that is no longer the case and there are effort to clean up the criminality. Mostly to shooting and the explosions. The very high level of rape is still something you are not alowed ro ralk abour and something the media lies about. And consudering thst high level does not imply that alone women will be raped of the walk qlone at night, but it rather a combiend risk of doing so over a lifetime. This guy have q really bad bias when he answered the question is swedish white and slavic diffrently. Sweden is really not very rich compare to norway and denmark. And even compare to finland thst historically was a very poor contry we are basically not even richer than them. If we compare with eastern europe its not really a qeusrion of why we are rich but rather why they are poor, and that basicallt boil down to the cold war.
