First! And yes this was a song from the Tarja era. So it was written for her opera style vocals. So Floor is keeping it in the same vein and authentic. Prayers and thoughts go out to Floor who announced today she's been diagnosed with Breast Cancer but it appears to be non aggressive and she's having surgery tomorrow.
Wishing Floor all the best with her surgery and recovery. She expects to be back for the European tour in November🤞🏻. There is a studio version of this song, but was recorded with the original singer, Tarja, who sang mostly in this vocal style.
As mentioned in previous comments, they had only done this with Tarja. Both Tarja and Floor are trained classical singers. I think Stargazers is from the Oceanborn album, where Tarja was using an operatic technique. In Century Child she started experimenting with a slightly different sound she finally nailed in Once, which was her last album with Nightwish. I love that Floor has many different techniques in her toolbox and can do so many different types of music. I hope she has a long career ahead after she beats the cancer.
Stargazers was the first Nightwish song I ever listened to, way back in 1999. It was great with Tarja back in the day, but it takes on a whole new dimension with Floor!

Unfortunately, today, Floor posted an open letter to fans on her social media that, two weeks ago, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Unbelievable that she could perform all those shows in South America and Mexico, knowing that she would be operated on tomorrow. We love you Floor. Here are her words: A letter to you, Life comes in waves, with ups and downs. I have had the joy of riding many highs, and I have shared these with you through social media and the many many shows worldwide throughout the many years of my career. But now a new wave hit me. Not a good one. I have breast cancer. It was diagnosed a little over 2 weeks ago and I will have surgery tomorrow to remove the tumor. My prognosis is very good!!! It seems to be a non-aggressive cancer, which seems to not have spread. I will keep my breast. And I will be cancer free after this surgery, plus a local radiation treatment that will take place three months after this surgery, hopefully. We will know more after the surgery to see if this positive prognosis stands. The word cancer is a shocker. All that you found important in life before this diagnosis changes radically within minutes. Now I just want to be healthy again. I want to see my daughter grow into a woman; I want to live! And the scariest part of this diagnosis is that I thought I was healthy! I didn’t feel the cancer, I didn’t know it was there until I, as a 40+ woman, went to a standard mammogram checkup. Something many countries offer, for free even for the lucky ones. Had I not gone there, the tumor would have gone undetected. In a year from now this could have grown much bigger. The thought of that makes me share this story with you. A mammogram is lifesaving! It’s uncomfortable and you might think that you won’t have something in your breasts anyway but GO! And for the men reading this: remind your wife, girlfriend, mother, sister to go and get checked. Even without the luxury I as a western woman experience with free mammogram checkups: GO! Luckily, there are many organizations that offer information about self-detection if you do not have access or funds for a mammogram. If I might inspire you to take good care of yourself, then something good will come out of this cancer diagnosis. If all goes as planned, I will be up and running in time for the European tour with Nightwish, that will start on the 20th of November! And I am optimistic since my prognosis is good! Yes, their studio stuff is great, but their live is almost always the way to go. This show was in 2015. They hadn't played it since before the breakup with Tarja, who sand the studio version and was the most operatic, in 2005. Second lead singer , Anette Olzon didn't do operatic vocals, so this is one of the songs that got put away. When Floor joined, it opened up the catalogue to the older songs. Stargazers also fit in with the Endless Forms Most Beautiful album ( this is the tour for it) which has themes of science and reason , including the universe and evolution. Floor posted on her channel today, she has breast cancer, and is having surgery tomorrow to remove a tumor.🙏
Strange really, that this hasn't stayed on the setlists but I guess there are just so many great songs... On the Oceanborn tour it was staple, it was sung only once on the Wishmaster tour and then half a dozen times on the Once tour. That of course, ended at the time Tarja left so, as you say, a break until Floor was on the tours (although she joined during the Imaginaerum tour, they weren't looking to redraw the setlists during a tour - Floor was essentially temporary at the time). Thankfully she became permanent and that opened up opportunities as you say. Decades, reinterpreting many old songs now they had a singer to do it, brought back lots more; but still there are too many songs to keep including lots of old ones, so Stargazers has never made it back since Endless Forms - not even on the Decades tour, surprisingly.
So, some studio stuff from Nightwish. The official video for Noise from their album Human Nature. They do an excellent job producing a music video. And I am really partial to Endlessness from Human Nature- which I don't think ever has nor ever will be played live.
Yes, Floor is using operatic singing technique in this one. She is able to use every know singing technique - plus the ones she has developed herself!! She is unique. If you want to look at a studio version - please go for: 'Shoemaker' from the Album Human Nature 2020. It's special because the breathtaking ending, is recorded in Floor's homestudio - she didn't have to right gut feeling with the one from the Nightwish Studio, therefore she rehearsed the ending, recorded it - and that's the result on the dvd. The song is about Eugene Shoemaker - the person who actually had some ashes buried on the moon!!
This is much closer to an operatic style as written for first singer Tarja who was much more opera oriented and could never have sung many of the later songs which have more variety. Even some of her songs have been reinterpreted by Floor to give a different feel.
