I agree on the radio subject. They have won 3 Grammy's, sell millions of records, sell out almost all of their concerts, are loved world wide and yet they don't get radio play. It has always puzzled me. Love your reaction for this super song!
How this and Happy Now didn't get airplay is beyond me. They both would have been huge hits if radio had picked them up. Total Jams, and this one in particular feels very much like Super Fruit.
In my head I can see some executive scoffing at the idea that the radio audience would listen. All without ever so much as checking out a single track. And the radio industry isn't as full of independent stations as it was 50-60 years ago. Almost all media (radio/TV/newspapers/etc.) are owned by fewer than a dozen massive corporations now. So while you might find a "pop" station, a "country-western" station, and a half-dozen over genres within a given geographic area, they're almost all operating on a limited playlist country-wide. I remember when the government forced the phone company to break up. It's hard to remember now that most of America ran under ONE massive "Ma Bell" telephone company. It owned all the lines, all the hardware, everything. Something similar needs to be done to break up the media giants. Sorry - no idea why I suddenly went off on a weird rant.
You would love the whole Lucky Ones album. So many originals many kinda in this same vibe. Never gonna cry again & Bored especially. But don’t listen without us! Would love to see your reactions! Their originals are so unique and magical!
Every single song on that album is incredible. I liked when another reactor (Jacob Restituto) just went through the entire album. They don't all have fancy videos but several of the songs that come with just the "visualizer" are among the best they've ever done. "Anchor," for instance, or "Never Gonna Cry Again." All the songs on that album are originals, no covers. Somewhere on the net I read an article that said all the songs address some aspect of emotional damage.
Knew you would love it! I agree…can’t believe this doesn’t get air time. I guess they don’t consider a cappella mainstream. It’s sad. They don’t get enough credit for their original music, it’s really good!
If this is right up your alley, please check out their older (e.g. with Avi) yet brilliant La La Latch, a perfectly seamless Sam Smith/Naughtyboy/Discovery mashup. Avi & Kevin are exceptional and all 3 "vocalists" get a chance to shine.
I swear I thought at the beginning Kevin was playing the cello, but it turns out it was Matt. This is a super catchy song. And yeah - Kevin absolutely killed it!
This whole album was mixed with radio play in mind. They took liberties to make it more commercial sounding. It’s stupid that the industry is biased against a capella because there were so many catchy bangers on The Lucky Ones! I think you’d like Be My Eyes- it’s a Kirsten Song. Happy Now too.
Exactly, I think there's an element of bias when it comes to a capella (they expect it to be boring or only for christmas). But I also wonder how much their label actually promotes them. I know they're not technically Sony, but ultimately they are, and Sony has history for not promoting some acts they just don't feel like, but not letting them out of their contract because they also don't want others to have them too...it's a messed up side of the music industry and some bug names have suffered from that creative silencing in the past. The difference with PTX is they found a niche on youtube before they were signed and gained all the patreon support (and probably a bit of industry savvy after initially being dropped after the Sing-Off)...so even if the label wanted to fully hold them in limbo they can't do to the what they've done to others. There are by far too many that do it & get away with it, it seems to have just become a thing that sometimes happens to artists, and is just accepted; that's not ok. In hindsight, when they dropped them initially they probably did them a huge favour (when the alternative could have been keeping them signed and just not releasing anything until it killed their careers). I believe their contract is due for renewal soon, I hope they get the opportunity to sign with someone genuinely passionate about getting their music to as many people as possible. So many of their originals could be huge in clubs too.
Great reaction! This whole original album consists of AMAZING songs! Every single one is just the Best of Pop. You're gonna love them! Check out: - Love me When I Don't - Happy Now - Be My Eyes - Bored - Never Gonna Cry Again - You're Out - Easy Love
Your reaction to this one is one of my favorites!! Your face said it all!! Love your enthusiasm, comments and expressions when you do your reactions. The bass and beatboxing are phenomenal and Mitch's vocals always make me smile!! Keep up the great work and have a great day!
Kevin and Matt are BEASTS! Loved your reaction to this fabulous original, and I have to agree that the whole ‘Lucky Ones’ album is 🔥. I couldn’t even begin to pick a favorite, but ‘Happy Now’ has a special place in my heart.
This whole album is amazing. Then they released a deluxe version with bonus tracks, and THEY were all amazing too! PTX always deliver. Great reaction, I loved how you were singing along almost immediately! 😀
One of my favorites! Sing is another awesome original! VERY uplifting! Bored is the best! Never Gonna Cry Again is crazy good! Thank you for your wonderful reactions! Good question about the radio!
if you liked this, I know you'll love A Little Space, which is another of their original songs. there is a full version f/ ATEEZ and a shorter version called the LMNT mix. both are great and worth a reaction, I think.
They recently got new management and are shopping for a new contract, both with the intent of pushing them more in the pop market. 🤞🏻 Hopefully they find what they're looking for. The management changeup did get them a ton of visibility over the holidays, at least.
This is one of my favorites! Definitely check out Anchor, Side and Never Gonna Cry Again also from The Lucky Ones album. More great EDM-ish vibes with Where Are U Now, LaLaLaLatch, Save the World Tonight, and I Need Your Love.
everyone's suggestions are wonderful and right down your alley but I think also to add to the pile of fun dance songs PTX did way back in the day is "Save the World/Don't You Worry Child" mash up......you will be so glad you checked it out :)
Love this one! And I agree idk how the radio hasn’t caught on to PTX yet besides on Christmas. Pentatonix’s originals are all amazing but this one has major Superfruit vibes to it which is probably why I love it so much.
The Lucky Ones is an album celebrating their first decade together. I see this one as a nod to Superfruit; Scott and Mitch. Oh the harmonies! Mitch in the rafters! And apparently Kevin acquired a steel drum!!!! The room changes to reflect each member which is really cool.
Each member of PTX has different tastes in music, so there are different styles on "The Lucky Ones", depending who wrote the song, though they all are produced for a current pop style. And all the tracks have co-writers from outside the group. This was by Mitch and Scott; other tracks by them are Easy Love, Petals and Bored (with Kevin). And they each have songs they wrote with outside songwriters or other PTX members.
Every single time I listen to this I get new massive appreciation for Kevin. I mean I l already know he's insanely talented but he is just crushing the crap out of this whole song. Yes, the vocals are absolutely gorgeous but KEVIN IS ON FIRE🔥🔥🔥🔥
So right, Matt and Kevin made this spectacular. Awesome reaction❤also check out their mashup of "New Rules x Are You That somebody " the percussion is spot on. 👌
YES! Knew you’d love this! 🔥They all just kill it!! The bass and perc are just beyond comprehension. As others have said, the whole album is top notch. Please do See Through, Anchors and anything else from the album (Side is awesome, too). Loving this journey with you, 😊
A Little Space ft:ATEEZ is another EDM flavored one, original, that you’d like. It gets stuck in your head though. Sing is a real bop, another original, that I don’t know why it wasn’t on the radio! It was revised and used as the intro music for NFL Thursday night football though. Loved the reaction! Just a thought, but going back 5-10 seconds after you pause, to reset the mood, is something other reactors use so nothing is missed on a song. Just keep being you & you’ll keep growing. Some of us brought you to the attention of PTX media site…so hopefully that brings you to the attention of PTX for a shout out! I also love your Led Zeppelin & rock reactions!…guess you could say I enjoy your channel 😉🥳
Enjoyed your reaction to this one. It's definitely a shame that they don't get more radio play. Their original music is so fantastic. Anchor is one of my faves off the album. Hope to see you react to it at some point.
Yes, yes, yes! Loved your reaction. Their original music just doesn't get recognized. I'm hoping that their new management company is going to get them more exposure and hopefully some radio play. So many people are are missing out on so much talent and fantastic music! Once again, great reaction. I love your enthusiasm!
You are so right! Matt and Kevin crushed this. Most radio stations don't think a cappella is "saleable". It's such a specialized niche. That's why PTX doesn't get radio time. Please don't have a heart attack. I would miss you! I have a feeling you will be putting this on your playlist. Thank you! Great reaction, as always, but better than usual. You really dug this one. On to the next PTX reaction! charge!
04:25 "How is this not on the radio?" Because the vast majority of radio stations hear "acapella" and react the same way the recording label that sponsored the Sing-Off, but dropped PTX immediately after they won the contest, reacted: "no one will listen to acapella, there's no market for it".
Early one that is awesome..."Save the World/Don't you Worry Child"....you will enjoy!! Exactly!!! How was this not on the RADIO???? Also give "Hey Momma/Hit the Road Jack" a spin.
Hello Salvo G. So glad that you enjoyed this one!! PTX is just fabulous. How are they not on the radio? Greatest mystery. Second greatest mystery - how do they only have 3 Grammys. This is an original PTX - great vocals, ear candy and a great beat. Fantastic videography too. More PTX originals please - You would like Happy Now (similar upbeat tempo), Anchor, Never Gonna Cry Again (both of these slower beats but profound in different ways). Also the title track from their 10th Anniversary album The Lucky Ones. It does not get a lot of requests but it is great to recognize their own recognition of their achievements - especially since you are doing their Sing Off journey now.
How is this not on the radio? I have no clue! I have a theory that if they'd released their originals under a different band name, they all would have been huuuuuge!
Matt and Kevin own this song. They create an amazing EDM sound that - even after over a decade of PTX being around - I STILL can't believe they can create so convincingly, you'd swear they were using a synthesizer. And Kevin's beats, in particular, are almost inhuman. I've never heard someone spit beats that fast and still be clear and articulate with them, it's the most incredible thing about the song, really. This is one of my all time favorites of theirs - and it's an original, which is all the better.
Loved your reaction! This really should get radio play. Don’t get the a cappella thing holding them back. I’m betting most people with no knowledge of the group would be jamming along with no idea there were no instruments. You’ll like Save the World/Don’t You Worry. Also, can’t wait for you to Anchor, so glad to hear that’s on your list.
They sing this on a couch on the Late late show. Even better in my opinion. Like Havana and Gold. Problem cover is great and Save the Word x Don't you Worry Child.
If you like this song, you would probably also like their original tune "Be My Eyes," in which Kirstie sings the lead. It's not only a great song, but the arrangement and effects in it are awesome. I strongly suggest it.
I'm with you, I've always wondered why they or Home Free and Voiceplay aren't on the radio yet is beyond me. It isn't like they aren't known by the industry. I don't know about Voiceplay and where they've played. PTX has done different awards shows and venues in Hollywood, have done a show with Stevie Wonder and won a Grammy for Joleen with Dolly Parton. I know Home Free, does shows at the Grand Ol' Opry. So, your guess is as good as anyone else's.
One reason It's not on the radio SONY owns the copyright. (and we all know what Taylor Swift had to go through to get control of her own music was). Oh and have you tried "Be My Eyes" it's another original.
This was written by Mitch and Scott (and a couple of other LA songwriters). It's a bit of a throwback to Superfruit. I'm telling you, if you are looking for EDM, you will LOVE all the songs on Superfruit's "Future Friends" album. You've done "Guy.exe" but I think you'll like some of the other tracks better. Try "Imaginary Parties" or "Hurry Up"
OK, I think I got it/you :) - you'll love Cologne, A Little Space, Happy Now, Bored, Never Gonna Cry Again, Petals, Easy Love. Apart from Cologne, these are all from their second originals album (2021). From their first original album (2015, which also features Water), I think you'd enjoy Sing, Na Na Na, First Things First, New Year's Day. Superfruit's original album, Future Friends, should basically appeal in its entirety. Maybe try Bad For Us next? There are two music videos for this, the first is animated!
Love that you love it! I don’t know why they don’t get more radio exposure either. But I would bet money that the majority of radio listeners would not realize there are no instruments. I can suggest another unknown song for you - I’m Your Machine by Mitch, performing under the name Messer. That should be on the airwaves too. Peace from Ohio …
This song has Superfruit vibes written all over it... So most Superfruit songs might be suitable with you... I wouldn't be suprised if someone said that this song were written for Superfruit originally... Also for their latest Album, The Lucky Ones, they tried adding more background vocals, which are not liked by some "fans"... But I think, they are trying to be more Mainstream friendly and get the radio time... Since "pure" Acapella wouldn't probably fit to be in a radio... noone will know if it is an acapella, except the announcer says it explicitedly...
Yayyyy! Im glad you loved this. I don't know for sure if it's true, but another commenter elsewhere said Mitch wrote this when Scott told him a story about how Mark brought him coffee in bed. I hope that's true, because it's adorable.
The idea would have been familiar to Mitch anyway, because he and Scott used to do the same thing for each other in the mornings if one of them slept in, according to the Boyfriend Tag episode of Superfruit.
