This video has a triple meaning almost. 1) When she started dating her boyfriend of four years now, she hid in London for months without others knowing. She disappeared from the world shortly after the snake drama. This video depicts her going unnoticed and escaping celebrity. But guess who could see the real her? Him. 2) At the end, she walks into a dive bar. She has strongly suggested a dozen times that their first date was at a dive bar. The Golden Golpher is a real bar in L.A. Maybe her boyfriend slipped her his number at an event? 3) The "delicate" aspect likely refers not only to the beginning of a new relationship and taking the next steps, but also how in-the-spotlight her life is. Being with her means being in the spotlight...eventually. They kept their relationship private for over 7 months before the media reported it and many years later, people are unaware about Joe Alwyn.
This is one of her first about Joe. They were never supposed to be serious but then she fell in love and she was scared he wouldn't feel the same. She's also making fun of herself because she "can't dance." Her Reputation tour was choreographed by Tyce D'Orio and you can tell she put the work in to really learning the choreo, making it perfect. About the video: when the drama between her and Kanye/Kim happened, she disappeared from the public eye for a whole year. Nobody saw her for a long time, and during this period, she was beggining her relationship with her boyfriend Joe. So, the song is her saying "I know the world hates me so much right now, but you must like me, because you're still here with me". She becoming invisible is a metaphor about her being away from the public eye. Also, the scene in the subway: during the 2009 VMAs when Kanye took her microphone, she did a performance inside NY's subway with a lot of fans singing with her inside the train. So, this scene is she saying "I needed to be invisible during this time because of everything that happened, but I missed you guys (the fans) so much!"
Hey Newfie, a lot of the songs on her reputation album are about Joe Alwyn, her current relationship. They were falling in love during this period of time (Repuataion Era). In the beginning of the song it says, "dive bar on the East Side, where you at." She gets the magical note telling her to meet him there. She then becomes invisible and is free to do whatever she wants, but you can see at certain points in the song that she's sad she can't be seen. She finally gets to the bar and then it looks like she closes her eyes and makes a wish, then the people see her, and she finally see's him and all is right with the world again. I love this song. It shows the silly and introspective side of Taylor. I would love to see you react to more of her reputation era. Also, the bonus track off the folklore album is amazing. "The Lakes" I think her last three albums - Reputation, Lover, and Folklore have a lot of songs about Joe, and show a lot of growth and maturity as an artist and person.
I personally think that this depicts how she would have been free to do whatever she wanted, if she was kind of invisible, like a normal person, not always the centre of attention. Maybe it's also about Joe. It's just my POV, correct me if I am wrong.
Delicate basically talks about the year 2016, when Kim Kardashian and Kanye West made Taylor look like a big liar by editing a video. Taylor's reputation created by the media and haters before that was that she was supposed to be a psycho girlfriend, a snake, a mercenary and horrible things like that (things that have nothing to do with who Taylor really is). But when Kim and Kanye released this edited video on Snake Day (yes, there is a day for that), the whole world started attacking Taylor like an avalanche, the hashtag TaylorSwiftIsOverParty was the most talked about subject in the world for a while, because everyone who didn't like her and hated her for some reason (including several of the celebrities) took advantage of this "exposure" moment to make horrible comments and celebrate the destruction of Taylor's reputation and career. So at the beginning of the song she talks about her believing that because her reputation is horrible now, he (Joe Alwyn) must like her for what she really is, meaning that she felt like he doesn't care about what the others say about her. The rest of the song talks about Taylor's relationship with Joe, which until then no one knew, because Taylor and Joe decided to make it as private as possible. Now they've been together for 4 years. In the end, all these criticisms about Taylor were dismissed, including the edited video (2 minutes) made by the Kim/Kanye couple. The full video (every 20 minutes) was leaked and proved that Kim/Kanye were the snakes of the situation.

Being invisible - during that time because people hated her (kanye /kim situation where she was accused of being a snake) She went in hiding for almost a year, no one have seen her in public.. during this time she was just being herself and she was sort of developing her relationship with joe. the scene at the end where in she entered the bar, it's their meeting place,( this dive bar was mentioned in some of her songs about joe) you can see her smile naturally because she is not invisible anymore and someone loves her for who she is ( in contrast to her not so natural smile in front of the mirror at the beginning of the video, )
So, the start of the video is portraying her life of fame, paparazzi, crazy fans, sweet fans and security following her every move. When she is in the mirror making faces she’s practicing her public persona, her camera smile. And her being silly is just how she’s expressing that she wishes she didn’t have to put on a front. The paper that is glowing allows her to make a wish. She wishes to be invisible. It’s fun at first... but in the elevator scene (the woman applying lipstick) she realizes that she doesn’t want to be invisible. She wants to be TRULY SEEN. When she walks into the dive bar she is greeted with her friends and loved ones that see her for who she really is. And the final smile is at Joe, the boy she’s nervous to be vulnerable with.

And fun fact: I believe Joe is in the scene in the dive bar, briefly. When she gets there and is seen by him, she is finally visible to the rest of the world.

the video meaning is a mystery to me, but the song, musically, i love it. the sensitivity. the delicacy, the breathiness, the intimacy, the lyrics, the phrasing, the clever changes in phrasing and rythym. Love. all that what i get from it is her reputation has never been worse. but shes embarking on a new relationship, and shes knows its at a delicate phase, so shes a little uncertain, and shes asking is this ok ? is this too soon ? is this too fast ? The song describes the very beginnings of her new relationship with her now boyfriend, Joe, in that it's all delicate at first, especially because of her celebrity life and her, at that time, "perceived" bad reputation. It's acknowledging that -- if someone is going to be in her life, they'll be sucked in under the same microscope, swimming in the same fish bowl, with the expectation of perfection and with no room for imperfections or error without being criticized. But you really were close as to the overall theme of this video, in that, Taylor is ALWAYS being watched and judged. She always feels as though she has to be perfect: walk perfectly, dance a certain way, "be the global pop star" -- to the point where she feels that no one really sees the real her (thus, may not really see her at all). So, with the magic note she received, presumably from Joe to meet him at the dive bar, it allowed her to temporarily escape reality and being watched, it allowed her to become totally free, more herself, not so perfectly poised, not so perfect in her dance moves, not so perfectly composed and polished, not seen as a "china doll" pop star. She was allowed to finally let loose and be her true self, which is natural, silly, fun, imperfect at times -- just like the rest of us. And the magic note (from Joe) allowed her to embrace that notion and finally be free, because that's who she really is, behind closed doors, when not everyone is watching -- and he sees her for who she really is and fell in love with all sides of Taylor, the real Taylor, not just the "perfect pop star" Taylor.

She would disguise herself in order to out to the “ dive bar on the east side... where you at?” To meet her boyfriend so no one would see her or know. Reputation is very much autobiographical, every lyric in every song is telling you exactly what was happening.
