Leave it to an atheist to teach the importance of christmas to an atheist like me. I never cared much for christmas because of all that religion connotations behind it. Now I remember all those christmas I spend with my dad before he passed away and I can appreciate what it really means to my mom to have me and the rest of the family there celebrating, not the birth of jesus, but being a family. So yeah, I cry every time I listen to it, and I listen to it everytime I need a reminder that I have a heart that loves my family and misses my dad. The kind of things that you never forget but at the same time you need to be reminded of every once in a while.
Tim Minchin comes from Perth where I live.. that’s why it’s white wine .. in the sun..it’s a bit of Australian institution. His dad was my tutor in medical school.. he is a surgeon.. Tim is extremely gifted! Super intelligent.. and followed his calling!!
Australia is in the southern hemisphere, so the seasons are opposite of those in North America and Europe; they have snowy summers and warm winters. So their Christmas season is sunny.
You are not wrong, instead of Christmas balls ours are normally quite sweaty........ there's a picture for you, imagine, a beautiful roast meal, 100 degrees in the shade! I'm not joking ! Merry Christmas all
@@TrackpadProductions hahaha, almost. We just have summer when North hemisphere has winter. So our Christmas is in summer. We don't live in opposite world where summer is snow and winter is hot haha.
@@fletcherb4728 ...isn't that what I said? I said that when it's winter in the northern hemisphere, it's summer in the south. Why is that wrong? Or did I just phrase it wrong?
@@TrackpadProductions "they have snowy Summers and warm winters" is the part that is phrased wrong. It implies winter is hot and summer is cold in Southern Hemisphere or specifically Australia.
It's hard for me to listen to this song and not shed a tear for absent friends and family, regardless of the time of year It is such a perfect capture of what a Christmas day in Perth (Tim and my home town) is like.
I first saw this at his 2010 orchestra tour 3 weeks before Christmas. This was the day after my dads funeral and the whole show helped me cheer up but also to start grieving properly. I sat in my chair weeping, can’t hear this without feeling all those emotions. Best Christmas song ever.. :).
I’ve watched this dozens of times over the years and I still cry every time. Simply beautiful and, as I’m an atheist too, Tim describes exactly how I feel about Christmas.
It's astounding that Minchin can sing Pope Song one minute and then bring us all into the love and sincerity of White Wine in The Sun the next. This is one of my top three Christmas songs.
As a father to a most gorgeous and beautiful-hearted 5 year old girl, it gets me every time to think of her growing up and one day being out there on her own without me there to make her laugh and see her amazing smile. But as long as she knows I’m always here for her whenever she needs. Great song, Tim.
It was lovely watching your thoughts and emotions flashing across your face. I know the song so I was really looking for what I then saw happening. Great reaction video.
@@seancullum1561 You know what's weird Sean? I identify as conservative. I'm certainly not a liberal. When I know someone's politics are opposed, I can't help but not watch or listen to them. But I have to make an exception with Tim. I think because as different as some of our views may be, he writes so damn much of what I believe. It's like he's using "the force". I've been making a living with music for thirty five years. I appreciate greatness. It's rare. Tim is special. I'll leave it at that. - Cheers.
@@ebenclukey7293 that might be cos when it boils down to it. There isnt a lot different between us. We all just want whats best for our loved ones in the end
@@ebenclukey7293 It could also be that Tim very openly says he would never stop someone from believing what they want, he's just open with what he believes himself. He's very accepting and that encourages people even if he's saying stuff they disagree with to listen with an open mind and take it the way it's intended.
A more sentimental song from Tim, with just a hint of comedy and witt and sarcasm. It is a great song for Christmas for those of us that are not religious.
I admit I was a little nervous when I first clicked on this video. Because this song in particular is not what most have come to expect from Tim Minchin, and it might throw some people off. But it's such a great song and I'm happy you were able to appreciate it.
I imagine when his parents took him to piano lessons as a child they never thought this would be the result.... React to Tim's "song for wossy"...it's a good one
Thanks so much for reacting to this! Awesome reaction! I think this might be my favorite Christmas song as well. Here is another song by Tim. Rated PG. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7BeZPCoq0Po.html

heh my lil sis asked me for my new address and I said sry I don´t want presents but she said she knows I am not materialistic so she wanted to send something she had made herself so that got me the most excited bout this christmas, and the entire family now understands those kinds of things are the most important things to me, I don´t want just random stuff to litter my home with, I want stuff with some personal meaning to me A friend knows I like Zelda so when he was visiting for a couple of weeks he had bought a 14 hole ocarina for me and my big sis also remembered me loving to play Zelda when I was ten years old so she bought me a Zelda cup.. those are the things that matter to me :)
