Something a lot of Northern hemisphere folks miss with Tim Minchin is that he's Australian, so Christmas is summertime for him. So white wine in the sun makes perfect sense. It's worth watching a concert video of this song, as his facial expressions are gorgeous.
Of all of the Tim mention white wine in the sun reaction videos, this is my favorite music video of it. I like it better than his live versions. Thank you so much for doing this! Sending love to you and yours from Orlando Florida.
One of Tim's best, but lesser known songs is called "If This Plane Goes Down." It's another serious one where he uses a touch of humor as he often does, but asks the question -- Are you living your life in such a way that if you died right now, you'd be satisfied with how you'd be remembered?
An absolutely beautiful song that reaches right into the soul. Some people don't realize that when he talks about Christimas being based on an ancient religion, he is talking about the Norse and the Celts and their celebration of Yule. The Christian part comes in with the "westernization of a dead Palestinian" bit.
Love this song, though I feel the animation actually takes a lot away from it. The concert versions where it's just Tim playing the piano allows the listener to personalise their interpretation and relate it back to their own lives a lot more. Beautiful regardless.
I agree, first time seeing this animation and I didn’t feel as connected to the song. Tim on the piano with his voice breaking with emotion and barely reaching the end of the song 😭😭😭😭 EVERY TIME.
Tim ALWAYS makes you think, if you listen hard enough. He is the master of subverting expectations and I think this whole song is a subversion of expectations, especially in relation to his body of work up to the point of writing this song. Suggestions? If you haven't done it, Storm is an absolute must. It's a 9-10 minute beat poem (depending on which version you watch. I'd go the 9 minute as preference) about critical thinking. Angry (feet) is a killer spoken word poem. Thank you god or 10 foot c*ck and a few hundred virgins make interesting theological points. If I didn't have you, or you grew on me showcase Tim's appreciation for relationships that are built with time and care, instead of superficial attraction or "fate". Fk the poor talks about the value of giving and theres a couple of his sweeter songs: 5 poofs and 2 pianos, if you really love me and inflatable you. You mentioned you'd already done prejudice. Good luck 😁
Thanks so much for the Tim Minchin listen and Happy Holidays Lyle! If you are going to do more Tim you should start with Rock n Roll Nerd as a good intro to his stage character ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XP9pnSXhibw.html However Tim is not just a comedian as you just discovered. A real polymath there are different areas to explore. "Matilda" the musical movie is out now in Australia and the U.K. and will be out on Netflix on Christmas day in the USA. Tim wrote the music and lyrics for it over 10 years ago now.
