‘Very mild acts of rebellion’ Percy: drops school into shark tank, shoots cannonball at school bus, is watched by man in trench coat, sells candy from dorm room, gets book review pre-written Mild.
@@GTrevise I’d say forcing people to read the books. First, we’d tell them about how good they are, then we threaten them. The next step is make sure hatred of the movies spreads, followed by the ritual burning of the movie CDs as sacrifice to the gods(and by gods, I mean Percy and all the demigods).
I hate that ppl compare PJO to HP they are written in the same formula 3 kids go on a quest and go to a place for "kids like them" they have a smart friend and a loyal sidekick but that is where the similarities end if you read with an open mind I can almost guarantee they would have fun.
exactly like there are simalarities but mostly because they are derived from the same myths and Riordan said it started of as inspired by J.K.Rowling's Harry Potter
Yeah I agree they are popular because they have things people like and there may be overlap between them but that doesn't mean they are copies of each other.
Percy-green eyes and black hair Harry-green eyes and black hair Percy-almost dies several times a year Harry- almost dies several times a year Percy-has a girlfriend Harry-has a girlfriend Percy-has a mentor Harry- had a mentor Just because they are similar doesn’t mean one is a knockoff of another
Yeah, like, I get that person's sentiments honestly, like the books said that Apollo was older than Artemis, Hecate wasn't a virgin goddess, and villianised Circe, Medusa, etc pretty badly so....
Middle-grade and young adult are aimed towards diffedent audiences ! I started reading these when I was 12 (17 now) and rereading them I can clearly see that they are aimed towards a younger audience. But I still love them fornthe characters, writing and nostalgia
I understand parents wanting to read with their kids. I started reading these with my mom when I, like, 9 or 10, and we both loved them. But if she hated them, I would’ve understood and just read them on my own. It was a great way for us to spend time together, but I wouldn’t have wanted her to be miserable. These parents need to explain to their kids that sometimes people have different tastes, and it’s okay to have like or dislike something others don’t. It’s just part of life
@@Unclaimeddemigod Yeah, I guess in some families it’s just not really all that practical to read with the kids. Especially if there’s multiple at different ages. But I’d recommend it to anyone who can; not just for the bonding experience, but also for helping kids’ reading skills. My mom used to read books aloud, that were too difficult for me to read on my own, and make me follow along as she read. Every few minutes, she’d pause and make me point to the word she was on to make sure that I was really following XD! I did end up reading way above my grade level, so I guess it worked.
@@hunterlawrence3573yeah, my mom is the one who introduced me to books and made me fall in love with them, like she was too. And then when we got the Percy Jackson series and she saw the first chapter title, I Accidentally Vaporize My Pre Algebra Teacher, she was like, ooh I gotta read this too now.
My father read all of the Riordanverse books to understand what I was talking about and while they definitely weren't his favorite, he did like them. And he was all caught up by the time that Tower of Nero came out so we got to read it together.
Me and my friend had to read the first book in 6th grade. I loved it and read all the other ones. She enjoyed it but it wasn't her cup of tea. She didn't read the other books in the series. This is how I thought human logic was until I watched this video. Apparently some people like to surround themselves with content they don't enjoy 🤔😂
We read chapters of TLT in like middle school and I wanted to read it myself so I did. I never looked back. I've kinda been obsessed since then and these reviews are ugghhhhhhh. (Personally I thought the first book was the worst but I'm glad I read the second one and everything else in the Riodanverse) :D
This was great! I used some of the same ones in my video! I actually feel the pain though, I had to read through so many god awful reviews as well and it was a nightmare! Keep up the awesome work Unclaimed! 👍
Exactly there middle grade novles. people (talking to the 1 star reviewers to be clear) stop acting like these are sopposed to be some very mature adult novles. And what’s wrong with middle school humor. (Okay I guess being in middle school makes me bias but still) Also I enjoyed this a lot this is something O commonly do for fun but not many have done yet on the internet so it’s really cool to see you doing this.
Love your video and i hate when people compar Harry Potter and Percy Jackson. And it's normal it's formulat (prophicie and fate) is the way is made in the legend. And i agree whith you, if you don't like why you read and please if you are not the demographic don't read it if your are not a open mind. Sorry for the english.
im just confused at why people think percy jackson is a rip off of harry potter. Is it because there is a main trio? Or because they both are 'magical', because in like every middle grade fantasy book at least someone is going too have some sort of power
i will still recommend anyone of any age to give these books a try, i think the fact that its all from percys perspective makes the middle grade writing feel like mostly a character trait, since we are listening to a child talk about the things hes going through. unless you really hate children or don't have a sense of humor this can't really be a bad read imo. rereading these in my 20s was just as entertaining as it was when i was 12-16. i don't get how anyone can get bored of percy, everyone i know wanted to protect him at any cost after 3 chapters 😅
Read the comments on Amazon. Just read them. It seemed like they weren't even talking about Percy Jackson. And I told my mom to read Percy Jackson and she loved it ;)
I feel like the people comparing it to Harry Potter are Harry Potter fans and heard a lot of good things about the series and decided to read it while comparing it to Harry Potter in every aspect and didn’t even try to enjoy it.
One if reviews I read was 'This is so complicated teachers give us complicated books without even helping us this summer. I hate it it’s summer vacation why do we have to do work this should not be called summer vacation.' Lol.😂 This could be another reason people are hating it Ig. Cause their mythology teachers are making them read PJO.
That first review summarizes my impression perfectly. I was surprised that the book is so popular. Then I saw : "It's a middle grade series"....suddenly, I understand.
Percy Jackson and Harry Potter have some similarities because they are both amazing books written on ways that people like to read. Also, both are beloved by fans across the world The guy who said he 'wasted' a month of his life on TLO: it took you a frickin month 2 read that? It's, like, not even 400 pages! That's about 2 weekdays, 1 weekend day for me, and I'm a dam 13-yr-old. And why would you spend an entire month on something that obviously (however stupid it is) brought you so much displeasure?
"American rip off of Harry Potter." HAVE YOU ***** EVER READ THE BOOKS? IT IS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT BUT OH WOW THER IS A MAIN TROI TOO. OMG SO Harry Potter IS A RIP OFF OF THE THREE LITTLE PIG OR WHAT?!? P.s. I don't mean you
Idk if this is a popular or unpopular opinion but Percy Annabeth Grover>>> Harry Ron Hermione. Their chemistry is just better overall and feels waaayyy natural and wholesome
@@Unclaimeddemigod personally, I think their friendship was good waayyy later. I loved Ron and Harry's obviously but I really didn't like how they treated Hermione up till 5th book. Just went to her when they needed her help and didn't act like real friends especially during Hermione's free the elves arc
I hate when people compare Percy Jackson and Harry Potter too! They are very different and there are a few similarities but because these books are about a camp and they have a lot of adventures in them people compare them to Harry Potter. Also I do not remember anyone saying something like "Percy Jackson our new celebrity". Snape said this to Harry. I also don't understand how people can find Percy Jackson boring, of course there will be some parts of a book that you don't like even if it's the best book in the world but I don't think the Percy Jackson books were boring overall but everyone has their own opinion I guess. I like the fact that the writing is similar for all the books because that's how I know it's a Rick Riordan book unless they were talking about the fact that the things happening in each of the books is similar which is true but also I don't mind that because the books do have a good plot.
As someone who recently re-read the first book, I can also confirm that that line was never in the book and that review was just pulling it out of absolute nowhere (probably out of irrational anger that this was supposedly a Harry Potter ripoff).
8:46 I agree with them it was kind of mostly pointless In the beginning except Percabeth Happening.... Seriously-- They went to Labyrinth to prevent a battle which they fought eventually anyways just got lucky and found Briaris on the way who saved the day (my opinion).
Botl in Nutshell 1)Percabeth!!! 2)Find Nico 3)Find Pan 4)Luckily stop Kronos from leading the attac 5) Fight A Battle Includes lot if unnecessary drama obviously caused by Hera and Aphrodite
I first I agreed but then I realized, Grover found Pan, which who he had been searching for him for a long time. You can’t really just say blah blah blah, Grover found Pan. This was also the quest Annabeth had been waiting to read for 7 years, again you can’t just skip over that. And finally Percy learned how create the earthquake thingies and how to pull water out of the ground. Oh during the school year I learned how to pull water from the ground and make an earthquake, no biggie. Honestly though I can see him saying this, but us as readers want context about this.
Ok, every book might be written the same. But what these people don't understand is that every single thing the characters do, affects the main scheme in some way, even if it seems minor at the time being. Every last move they make can affect everything in the long run, and choices from the past no matter how small, will come back up throughout the series. Therefore, it is SUPER important to keep plot consistency. And Rick did that. Everything that happened was important in some way some how. So to the people who get to sea of monsters and say it's the same as the first one, please keep reading. You'll see why later.
Am I the only one finding this series in my mid 20s who thinks this is written for someone my age as well as 12 year olds 🤪 also for the record I’ve read Harry Potter and PJ and I think PJ and the whole Riordanverse is better 🤷♀️
Look, I'm also reading a whole series and I don't like it, because I want to see what will happen in the end. I think these people wanted to keep reading it to see if the plot would go better in the next books
People should understand that HP can be read by people of all ages and is way more comprehensive PJO is a children's series, although enjoyable to read for many teens as well.... but the depth in HP is far more than PJO which is a light fast paced series with an 'all ends fairly well' kind of an ending
Ah yes..When people treat a middle school grade books like Adult books and make everything single thing serious even tho it's completely unnecessary. :D
I literally didn't see ONE one star review for TLO. It says 0% next to the one star tag. There's an overwhelming majority of people who rated it five stars and since that's my favorite book of all time I of course agree.
I know I shouldn't crap on this guy at 10:09; but seriously dude, A month to read a five book series!?!? I read them in like a week when I was 10 during my 5th grade year, and I was considered to have extreme reading comprension problems. Also who the hell reads something they don't like? To torture themselves? I would say that's the definiton of masochist or a tendacy of one; but and I could be wrong, I'm not and expert on the subject and I'm not going to look it up, but I thought they only liked to physically torture themselves, not phsychologically.
The first comment where it is written that too many Harry Potter references, it is called paying homage. If I am remembering correctly, Snape said this to Harry and Mr.D says is to Percy. It is literally a way Rick is showing his love and respect to JK Rowling/Harry Potter. Also, this was his first book and just a fun book for his kid so cut him some slack eh?
But I honestly feel that Ares was associated with ugly a lot, I mean, Gabe deserved it but yeahhhh, so it's just my opinion and I kinda like 25 percent agree with that one comment which said that twisting those myths was dangerous and the fact that Medusa, Circe were villianised, Ares was portrayed as a misogynist while in reality women respected Ares so much that they had an entire different aspect of hin which only women could worship and he was said to be all brawn and no brains and not generally respected, but have you ever actually looked at the Spartans? We always got to see Aphrodite as this girly girl who acted silly but in Greek Myths she was also known as Killer Of Men, and never got to see Aphrodite Areia (i think), her most warlike state. And Hera, in the battle of the Labyrinth, in the end everyone seems to ignore that part where Hera guided them through their entire dam quest and they say she didn't give clear answers when she first met them but when Annabeth refused to say the prophecy stating that too much knowledge was not good, people ignored it. The books also only said that Hera threw Hephaestus off because he wasn't perfect as per se, but i don't think they ever mentioned that Hera sired Hephaestus with her own essence to prove to Zeus that she didn't need him but then Zeus mocked her when Hephaestus came crippled that she wasn't perfect, like mother like son, and only with his help she could make something good, so she threw her source of mockery, that is Hephaestus. They say that Hera never had the guts to retaliate to Zeus himself when he cheats and instead punishes his children or mistresses, actually she did retaliate to Zeus the first two times but Zeus forbade her to. I'm not saying it's justified, but without context, she was just villianised way too much. The books stated that Apollo was older than Artemis, Hecate wasn't a virgin goddess, etc etc. If you look at it from the cultural point of view, you'll see what I mean. But I still loved the books, I'm a fan 100 percent, this is just my opinion.
So I love Harry Potter but I am not forcing anyone to share my opinion. Why is it that because I think it is better than another book series that I have to make sure other people think it too????? These reviews were ridiculous. First of all they can both exist in the same world. It’s ok to have multiple book series. Second no one forced you to read them. And third you are a freaking adult, why are you expecting high grade literary classics from a kids book?????
As a fan of Percy Jackson and Harry Potter I think neither is better than the other they are equal. Why do people like to say Harry potter is better than Percy jackson I don't get it.
Honestly I hate the first series but I read a lot of memes so I knew the seven before knowing the seven so I just read the series just to go to the second one and so far I am at the son of neptune the last one and so far that book was not a disappointment
The comparing to Harry Potter just no. I love Harry Potter and all but Percy Jackson was less boring than Harry Potter especially with writing style and all. Plus, this series kinda seemed like it was for slightly younger kids like maybe eight-ish and Harry Potter is more for like 10-teen years in my opinion but yeah.
@@anna_x_22 I didn’t have time to go out and buy the books so i listened to them on audible because it was easier for me, i was also super busy one week and didn’t have time to listen to it. That was also only the first 5 books sooo…
Clearly the people who gave a bad review to the third book either don't have a sense of humor or didn't read up to the part where there was a dam dam. Im not sure why i laughed but i did
