This video takes an early dyslexic reader from struggling to a good fluent reader. Using my spelling technique and applying it to sight words and other common words, your reader will be off to a good start towards being a fluent reader.

Hello all. Thank you for viewing my videos. My only goal is to help my son and if possible, save others in my situation the hours and hours of research and trial and error in order to help them too. As an update, my son is now in 6th grade and as proof to Mrs. Clabrese, my son is reading at a 7.6 grade level. That is one grade level above. I KNOW he has learned sounds and decoding and can figure out words he doesn't know with ease. His teachers tell me. Reading is no longer a struggle for him but an area that he loves and excels. He is a solid A/B performer now. My approach is different. I have heard over and over again that I need to implement this system or that system. I am not against systems. I think they can work. But, FOR ME, those systems don't know my son as well as I do and they take an all-encompassing approach in reteaching him things he already knows in order to address his specific areas of struggle. I prefer to find those "gap" areas and tackle those without spending time on the areas he already knows. This is my approach and it isn't for everyone. I have the time and desire to do it. The IMPORTANT thing is to get your child help as early as possible and build their confidence!!!! They all have amazing gifts and they just need the support to unlock them.

Thank you so much for you video, you're amazing! I wish I would have known my son was dyslexic a lot sooner so that I could have found the right help. You're son sounds just like my son in he gets so tired reading, I never knew that was because of his processing, he was labeled ADHD, I was told he was lazy, uncooperative etc. which never made sense because at home he was never like that, but now I know what it was at school he had to do so much more reading. My son is now 20 and reads at a 2nd grade level, I recently started learning about dyslexia because it was brought to my attention that maybe he is dyslexic, everything that I've read is my son to a T. I found out that schools with not say a child is dyslexic they just call that a reading disability and so I never knew what he was going through or that there is help, that he can improve and possibly live a life not struggling everyday and feeling stupid. I am definately going to try what you did and see if it helps him. You're an awesome Mom and don't ever question what works for your son because my son was taught all kinds of systems that never worked or helped him Also, I was wondering how you knew what the 220 sight words were and also when to introduce a new concept such as; igh or ee?

Hello:) my 3rd grader is struggling on reading and writing, I read to my son everyday we take turns reading he can chapter books but there's some big words he can't read but when it comes to writing about what he read he couldn't do it he gets frustrated and break down in tears . And I notice he starting to hate reading, he'll find away and excuse not to read, when he reads he fall asleep. Thank you for taking time to make your videos and share your personal experience with others. My daughter has dyslexia and I home school her. I am excited to implement your tips and tricks. I would have never thought about using audio books as a way to help her with reading but it makes sense to me. Can you tell me if you see your son as above average in creativity? Do you do anything to encourage this side of him? If so what? Thank you again for sharing. I am so excited to have found you. :D

I don’t quite understand. You have to come up with a picture for every word? And then you take the picture away and they remember it?

Do you mind sharing the leveled readers you purchased? My son is 5th grade, he can read but it is slow and not fluid. Also, did you have him read each book until he read it smooth and fluid or move on??

I've realized that most people writing comments are actually illiterate. I'm under the impression that most people talking about their children are actually just talking about themselves.

The problem with this is that there are hundreds of thousands of words in the English language, you can't do sight words with every word, therefore, students struggle when they get to the 8th grade as they will have to decode their words. Finally, I've never had a student I couldn't teach to read with the program I use, called Sing, Spell, Read & Write. . In addition, Visualizing and Verbalizing by Lindamood Bell will help. The reason your child is taking forever, is that you haven't taught him to decode.
