HEY FRIENDS! in this video i am showing you all how i have set up my (very) basic reading journal for 2023! I tried to make it as simple and as bare bones as possible in the hopes that I can actually keep up with it for ALL of 2023!!!! will we make it to december????? who knows! the only thing i am sure of is that i will end up acquiring many new reads to my TBR this year hahaha.

I love that your journal is basic and meant to really track your reading and not an artistic piece. I decided I wanted to create a reading journal, too and it is also very simplistic. Of course you should count books you read for school (or even work) as reading-its still reading! Just realized your video was from 2023 and it is now 2024, but know it was still relevant to me!

I love this minimalist aesthetic reading journal. I’m not artsy so this is my goals. I bought a Cafe Note B6 slim that has Tomoe River paper with grid squares and feels nice and sleek in my hand. And it travels well with my Kindle. And because I don’t want to carry around multiple notebooks, it’s turning into a commonplace + reading + thoughts + planner journal. 😂

thank you so much! i can totally relate...somehow one notebook always seems to rule them all 😂

I LOVE this!! It is so functional 🤩 - that reading in pixels spread is such a great idea. 😍

Completely understand - my reading journal isn‘t artsy either. It‘s just a record of the books I read and the thoughts I had on them. I also really like the Reading Journal Ellie from Ellie‘s Corner has set up in an old HoboWeeks. If you want to branch out into fantasy, I‘ll always recommend Terry Pratchett’s Discworld, if you haven’t read that yet. There are just so many allusions to real-world stuff-history, politics, science-that I‘m pretty sure you‘ll find a lot in it that you‘ll like. (Would recommend starting out with Wyrd Sisters, which is the 6th book in the series, because the first two aren‘t his best, in my opinion. You don‘t need any prior knowledge to understand what‘s going on, though having read or seen Hamlet and Macbeth might increase your enjoyment.😉)

I completely understand about not being artistic and having the time to create beautiful spreads. My reading journal is very and I mean very simple. I have glued a picture of the book cover on the page, add the dates that I read the book, use the TCMC rating sticker to provide a rating, then write down my thoughts on the book. I use an A5 dot grid journal from Perfectly Penned and it simple, quick, and inexpensive.

Thanks so much for sharing! I definitely resonate with the vibe of a simple reading journal. I’m trying to cultivate a reading happy this year and using what I have as a reading journal. There are things I don’t love about it, but I want to see if I’ll stick with it. Your style of spreads are inspiring

yessss! using what you have is so satisfying and honestly kind of like a game 😂 but i totally agree with you - i want to make sure i have something figured out/that im going to make good use of it before i drop too much $$$ !!

I now feel very inspired to a) ACTUALLY READ! and b) journal about it. I have a Q about audio book. I tried one once and, while it does seem to be the perfect solution for the busy mom to optimise her time in the kitchen and so on, it just irked me! I hated the flatness of the reading and I couldn't "save" any quotes because of not seeing the text. It felt it was all spilling out of my head! How do you go about noting down quotes or important points from an audiobook?
@theoryof.lauren
@theoryof.lauren Год назад
haha yay! honestly i also find i have that problem with audiobooks sometimes! i tend to be pretty particular about the audiobooks i do read - a lot of the time i will start one and then stop it and pick up a physical copy instead because i want to make notes or use it for future reference 😂 for audiobooks, i tend to go for non-fiction because its like listening to a very long podcast 🤩

love love love this! it can be intimidating to start reading journals bc of all the aesthetically pleasing ones other people have made. i personally simplified mine a lot this new year. tysm for sharing!! i love the way you write in quotes and love getting book recs from you ☺️📚

as someone also working in a budget, I did wanna suggest a book in case the dot grid ends up being infuriating. I know that I will end up not using a journal if the paper/grid style bothers me, which is what stopped me from having a media/reading journal for years. I'm still trying to find something that works for me 😂 Aura Estelle (a Canadian shop) has something called the Simple Grid Companion Planner meant to work with their dated planners. it's blank grid (perforated) tomoe river paper. they're pretty affordable and have a lot of sizes (A5, TN standard, B6, Weeks, A6 and Pocket). the A5 was $20 USD so it's not too terrible if you are confident you're gonna use it.

@theoryof.lauren Год назад
ahh thats an amazing suggestion, thank you so much!! I'm also considering using a freely noted notebook from plannermonkeyco for my next one! another great canadian shop with great shipping fees! 🤍

With a genre that you don’t really like, you could try a short story, instead of an entire book. Try one that has won an award; search nebula or Hugo award.

Omg, love this ❤ I’m so tempted to repurpose one of the thousand unfinished notebooks I have and use it as a reading journal but I just started reading again… don’t know if I’ll be consistent lol

Are you planning on reflecting on why you like/don’t like a book, summarize etc or do you do that on Goodreads? Also, just a suggestion-why not keep track of the articles you read? You are spending precious time reading and thinking about each one. Finally it’s harder to track them down again unless you note them somewhere. One more thing I would note is how you found the book- friend, professor, book list recommendation, etc. and who recommended it. I realize that you made this video early in 2023, but if you enjoyed your reading journal journey this year and plan to continue in 2024, maybe some of these suggestions will resonate with you! ❤
