it’s good that you chose to dnf the book. i used to think it was a waste to dnf a book, so i would always force myself to finish it. but this year i want to remind myself that i read purely for entertainment, so if i don’t enjoy a book from the start i shouldn’t have to continue it

I think 2024 is the year we can all give ourselves permission to not finish a book we don't like. I used to force myself to finish a book. Now, no way. There are too many books to waste time on a book we're not enjoying. Say yes to DNF.

I personally love the Caraval trilogy. It's one of my favorites. The first book I gave 5 stars and then the 2nd & 3rd I gave 4 stars. Scarlet was such a great character I was disappointed when the series shifted to Tella's perspective.

You HAVE to read 100 Days of Sunlight by Abbie Emmons. It is a poignant and heartfelt novel by Abbie Emmons. If you like sweet contemporary romance and strong family themes then you'll love this touching story of hope, healing, and getting back up when life knocks you down. A girl goes temporally blind and meets a boy with no legs. It’s not super well known but I think that it’s super good and EXTREMELY underrated.

i feel the exact same way about the caraval trilogy. i definitely don’t think it’s bad and the magic is very interesting! but i feel like jacks made it🗣️ but that might just be because he’s my favorite 🙈

I read the Carval trilogy before the Broken Heart trilogy and enjoyed both of them sooo much. Maybe it depends on the order you read them in…

I felt the same about throttled and collided I gave both three stars and didn’t really connect to the characters but once I got to wrecked and redeemed (book 3 and 4) that’s when I started loving the series :)

I would love to see you read the infernal devices trilogy. I just finished it and ohmy it was so good!! Definitely a 5 stars serie 🤌🏾

It helps to still mark a book as read if you have difficulty dnf’ing. I still think it’s fair bc to dnf there have to be many things off, the chance it will change in the last bit is very small

For me personally, when choosing to DNF a book, I usually give myself up to 100 pages, and if I’m not enjoying the storyline or connecting to the characters at all then I will DNF it…. Don’t want to risk putting myself in a reading slump if I’m not enjoying the book I’m reading….

I haven't read that series but I felt similarly about the once upon a broken heart series especially the last book curse for true love- I was hoping for SO much more in terms of Jacks and Evangeline's happy ending! After watching this, maybe I won't be reading the Caraval series?!

I think you didn’t like Carval because you were expecting Jack’s but you didn’t get him as like he wasn’t… he’s not the main character or the main love interest he’s like a main villain maybe I’m wrong though but I feel like you would enjoy the story more, if you were more removed from once upon a broken heart or maybe if you read it before once upon a broken

I loved the Caraval series I flipped out when jacks came into the Caraval Series , I love Jacks because jacks is one of my favorite book villains

Stephanie Garber wasn't able to effectively write an ensemble cast of characters in the Caraval trilogy and that's why it's mid. She switched perspectives and then gave all the characters besides Tella, Legend and Jacks throw away storylines. Scarlett and Julian are such interesting characters and Scarlett specifically is not the typical YA heroine. Scarlett and Tella are sisters and they barely interact in 3 books.

I LOVED Caraval and thought it was so interesting. Legendary was ok, not as good, but still very enjoyable. However, I hated Finale and thought it was the worst conclusion to a series. It felt like it was an entirely different concept in general and I had a hard time understanding how it was the ending to Caraval and Legendary. It was very sad for me.

I have such a hard time DNF ing a book. Idk what it is because if I really don’t enjoy the book it just keeps me from reading because I feel like I HAVE TO FINISH IT! I also want to get past that this year

U know what, to fully understand Jacks, you should read the caraval series before OUABH trilogy. It does makes sense and i love both.

I’m so glad you finished the caraval series! Finale wasn’t my fav of the series too. It was good, it just wasn’t as good as the last two. I felt like the plot was going over the place too and it was hard to follow.
