If I were to recommend you another really good series, it would be His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman ! Enjoy your journey in the Harry Potter world ! 😊

The books get more mature and sinister as you read the series. The characters are growing up with the young readers that first picked the series up in 1997. It’s such a pleasure to watch you discover something that can only be discovered for the first time once.

This was a joy to watch! I’m so glad you love HP! Took me back to the days when I first found it! I was legit not literate in the 5th grade (sad but true) and might have grown up to never actually know how to read if not for HP. I got sick for a whole month that yr and my g-ma was old school so no tv if you are too sick for school…she told me to read and someone at school had given me HP at a reading event. I spent the whole month slowly sounding out each word and hanging with Harry, he got me through it and taught me I could enjoy reading and it could be cool. I wouldn’t be where I am now if not for that, this series is my home. I took off after that reading anything fantasy I could as a kid and since I still loved my show I would read during the commercials of my Pokemon and cartoons haha! I hope you love the ride of this series and seeing Harry grow up. If you want some great fantasy for young adults or adults I suggest six of crows or a darker shade of magic and anything by Brandon Sanderson, he is a current fantasy god. Take care! ❤

Don’t worry about spoilers, we want to hear all your thoughts! Would recommend putting the movies on hold until you finish the books and highly recommend the audiobooks! Both the American and British narrators are incredible. Otherwise just put on the John Williams soundtrack while you read and you will be transported 🦉✨

I became a stepmom to two beautiful young boys at the beginning of the Harry Potter series. One of them hated to read. I think only three books were out at the time. It became such a great part of our lives. I remember all of us at Borders bookstore at midnight for each new release. We saw the first movie together. I had a Harry Potter birthday party for the oldest. It was a great chapter in our lives together. Okay two recommendations: City of Beasts by Isabel Allende and Quest for the Faradawn by Richard Ford. Both children’s books. Excellent fantasy!

I grew up watching the movies as a kid when they were first coming out! I’m reading the books for the first time and am currently on the 5th one. They really do get more mature and darker over time. The writing is beautiful and so much more in depth than the movies! However, I still love the movies❤️

Have you ever read the lord of the rings?

I read these as they were coming out and I was an adult. They only get better. I would suggest the Tristan Strong books on audio was my favorite the characters came alive truly.

Tip: Lay book on flat surface open front cover and back cover press down then one page at a time repeat process that way you can break in the book without breaking or damaging the spine.

I read the Harry Potter series for the first time last year! Even with knowing the whole story from watching the movies, there was still a lot I learned about the world and characters. I feel like you might like the A Series of Unfortunate Events series. Or even The Chronicles of Narnia series.

Gregor the Overlander (and the other books in the series) by Suzanne Collins are a fun read! Middlegrade fantasy series but with dark/heavy themes. A wild ride for sure. It’s set in modern day New York, Gregor and his sister stumble (or tumble as it were) into a secret underground world that is verrryyy different than the one they left behind.

Glad you are loving it! I re-read this after being introduced to HP in 8th grade ... book 1 reminded me why I love Fantasy as a whole. I am about to read book 3 sometime this weekend ... it definitely gets better. Not sure if you would like thr Shadow & Bone series, but maybe give it a try. I read Book 1 and did not much like it, but I am willing to give it another chance since I was gifted the series.

Growing up I fell in love with the series, but right before the release of book 4 I was forced to stop because of my family’s very strict religious beliefs. I wasn’t allowed to watch anything with magic, wizards, witches, etc. etc. I always regretted not finishing the series or getting into the movies. I’m glad to see you able to enjoy it as an adult. Maybe I will pick them back up and join you on this journey!

Fabulous! I’m a grown adult and I think this is definitely the best series I’ve ever read. It’s very relatable and you can really love and relate to the characters. I’m currently rereading this and am in book 4 at the moment. The series does get darker as it goes along, but still in an appropriate way since it’s written for kids. I’m excited to see new people discovering and loving this series! ❤ Honestly don’t worry about the spine. My copy looks the same way. That just means the book is well loved. 😜 Another series I’ve been reading in fantasy that I’m quite enjoying starts with Assassin’s Apprentice by Robin Hobb. She wrote a series of series, but that’s the first one of the first trilogy. I’m in book 2 right now. They’re a bit slower than Harry Potter but I still found myself very engaged in it and quite enjoying the characters. It’s mostly about this bastard son of a dead prince who gets dropped back into the castle to apprentice under the stable master, and is also secretly apprenticing under the king’s assassin. He also seems to have some sort of aptitude for magic, though it’s not super well developed yet. I’m excited to see where it all goes.

Love your enthusiasm, and envy you your first time reading HP. Such a great series. As for fantasy, you might try the Iron Druid Chronicles series by Kevin Hearne, or the October Daye series by Seanan McGuire. Both are contemporary/urban fantasy, the first set in Tucson, AZ and the second in San Francisco, CA. For a stand-alone, I’d recommend ‘The Sword of Kaigen’, my first 5 ⭐️ of the year. Just fantastic. Genre fiction can be so much fun! I tend toward Scifi & fantasy. I think the term you might be looking for as far as what to call a dude who love fantasy is geek. 😆 Welcome to the Geekdom!

I'd recommend "The Way of Kings" by Brandon Sanderson. A lot of characters and a complicated story but the further you go into it, the more it makes sense and it is a wild ride.

You should read Keeper of The Lost Cities. It's a series and I'm waiting for book 10 to come out, but I heard she is writing book 9.5. It doesn't matter what age you are if you enjoy a book, even with a senior citizen like me.
