Def "Ball lightening" from Cixin Liu. It's pretty science heavy but in the best way possible and surprisingly fast paced. 🤭 It has become one of my favourite Sci-Fi books!!!! Can't wait for you to read it coz imo it leaves the Trisolaris Trilogy in the dust!

Emily, for sci-fi please read either Never Let Me Go or Klara and the Sun by Kazuo Ishiguro. They're soft sci-fi, so I think they're a bit different from your usual and I'd love to know what you think about either one :)

I'm so grateful that lately you've been reading and reminding me of books that I read and adored many years ago. I read The Kite Runner about 10 years ago when I was 16 and I remember that it destroyed me. I got so attached to the story and the characters that it took me months to stomach it and move on to another book. This being said, it might be about time I reread it because from your spoilers I realized that I only remember the most traumatic parts of the story... In conclusion, don't give such books to teenagers, no matter how mature they seem.

Well first of all, your makeup in this video is fantastic! And I love your earrings - the hoops and the bears!!!! Second of all, I can't read any more WWII fiction either, for the exact same reasons you have. I've read enough. I know what happens. We get it. We got it. I enjoyed 'The Kite Runner' but not as much as 'One Thousand Splendid Suns' (if the title is off, I'm too lazy to go look at my shelves). That one is focused on three women and it was SAD but I loved it so much.

Kameron Hurley's The light brigade. I think a couple years ago you put another one of her books, stars are legion, on your worst books of the year. So if you want to give the author another try, I definitely think the light brigade is more up your ally. It's got sci-fi blockbuster edge of tomorrow vibes, I didn't want to put it down.

Oh gosh, where to start with favourite sci fi!? Seeing as you've just finished some Octavia Butler I think continuing with more female classic-sci fi authors would be awesome especially Le Guin. I don't recall if you've started any of her Hanish Cycle books yet but The Left Hand of Darkness and The Dispossessed are two of her most praised works; can't really go wrong with either. Wouldn't be right without throwing some first contact books in the mix either. Dragon's Egg is quite similar to Children of Time following the evolution of an alien society over eons but the aliens here are even more imaginative than the spiders and have characters that are just as easy to cheer for. Another great one is Blindsight which plays with some really unique concepts that flips some alien tropes on their head. Both should definitely be appreciated for their concepts rather than their writing though. Also can't leave off without reminding you of that Hyperion read we're still waiting for 🙃

Sci- fi- I recommend Joel Dane's Cry Pilot, it's a bit like a sci- fi version of Nevernight or like Skyward on steroids :D Military, sassy rollercoaster; the main character is in a kind of training; made me feel like I know all the characters personally. For me, it was a hard read, because English is not my native language and it had a lot of military and technology words, but totally worth it!!! I feel like it doesn't have the popularity it should have, and also- doesn't it sound like something you might love?! :D

For the Huntress, it's kind of funny because according to the reviews, most people don't seem to care about Nina! I just read it too and gave it a 4.5 stars. I didn't think the Huntresses identify was a mystery, but the back of the book has some book club questions which make me think otherwise. It was pretty clear! The part I didn't like (apart from multiple POV books in general), was that once all in the same city, the chase too way way too long! It was maddening!

I did the audiobook of The Huntress as well, but I'm pretty sure the identity of the villainess was not meant to be a mystery. That threw me off a bit at first, but then the suspense vibe in Jordan's story kicked in and it didn't bother me. I generally like multiple POV books, and I think I did give this one 4 stars, but there was something about how it was handled here that felt a little unbalanced.
