'80s kid here! OMG, I was 14 when this amazing song came out. The first single was "Oh Sheila," and I remember my older brother, who was two years older than me, coming home with the album. He placed the needle on that record, and I was like, "OMG, who the hell is this?" He said, "Ready For the World," and I was immediately hooked. I was already an MJ and Prince fanatic, and hearing RFTW just blew my socks off. Man, I really miss the best era of all time; the '80s. I feel so sorry for the kids today; poor things.😪
@@Dahverin-kk4on Oh damn. I didn't know that. I guess I figured it was the first single because it was the first song I heard. What was the first and second single?
Melvin Riley looked so focused and serious in this video, he didn't even crack a smile. That man was a stone cold performer and Ready for The World needs an Unsung on TV One.
@@bradlozano2571 Jesse Johnson didn't work on this album at all, Gordon Strozier did the guitar work for this album. But you make a good point, Johnson was a bad MF on that guitar.
I agree Ready for the World definitely needs an Unsung. They are the definition of "Unsung." It is a shame how much they are a forgotten group of the 80's. I thought that "Tonight" was song by Michael Jackson, when I was a kid. They were a good group and need to be honored. Facts!!!
Back in the 80s when everybody tried to be Michael Jackson and Prince. Ready for the world, Jesse Johnson, Clayton Savage, Jak, Exotic Storm tried to be Prince and New Guys On The Block, Alfonso Ribeiro ( Calton banks from Fresh Prince) Cashmere, Latoya and Marlon ,Bobby Brown and many others tried to be Michael Jackson.
I completely agree!!! I had it when I was a little girl, I loved it then...and I love it just as much today...maybe even more! I have the cassette and the cd...these songs will never get old!
I am 48 and I was 14 when this song was on the radio. I bought the 45 and today when you play this song LOUD with the right equalization the earth move under our feet. That bad ass bass is incredible!!!!
Yeah this video conceptually is decades ahead of its time, even though films like "Weird Science" also came out in the 80s. And this song 200% should've been a single from that Soundtrack. 1 of the best, underrated 80s pop bands period, rnb or otherwise.
Been listening to this song over and over for the past four days. I'm in love with the beat production on this song. I love when beat producers know how to manipulate synthesizers, reverb on keyboards, and etc. to give you their own styles of beat production.
I was 16 when this song came out. Such a great song for the dance floor. Now my daughter has a digital app class, and every time I say it, I gotta hear this song.
I'm at work talking to a co-worker on teams and she said there's something wrong with the display. Immediately I said, "Alexa, play Digital Display Ready for the World" she busted out laughing 😂
O-KAAAAY??!! Girrl, me, TOO!! WHERE'S my skates AT??!! 😍😍👏👏 I 'STILL' LOVE to go roller skating!!✋✋💯💯 I even went to the Prince 'Tribute' roller skating event in Murrieta, Ca. at there Roller Rink EpicEnterntainment Roller Rink back in this past June 3rd, 2018!! ❤❤💯💯 Me and my 25 yr. old daughter had a 'BLAST' on that event night!! YASSSS!! ❤❤💯💯👏👏👍👍
RFTW was/is a triple threat. The band was/is tight. They have that Minneapolis sound down just as good if not better than Prince or the Time. They didn't get the worldly recognizition they deserved. I too think that they deserve to b on Unsung. The world needs to hear their story of such a gr8 talented band that were so young but focused and professional that came frm my home state of Michigan, where a local radio personality called the Elecytafying MoJo put them on the map, they were always the secret artist on the MFA midnite funk association. Gr8 music, glad to c them back touring and still w/a band.
Tonia Green RFDTW is very talented but Prince & Morris Day were here before them. Without these artists, bands like RFTW may not have gotten record deals. Prince will forever be known as the one who created the MPLS sound.
Damn I never knew there was a video for this song. They were the best triple threats they sang danced and played their own instruments. Now we have boy bands that aren't even bands
Honestly, I use to think they were saying, "Make one big for what they already should have had." LOL!!! I was always thinking, what they heck does that mean?! Glad to hear it's different than I thought! Sexiest lyrics. Couldn't write a song like that today. Still a great group, though, with great music. Never was crazy about the lyrics in must of their songs. A big fan, however.
@@derrickcrawford6235 I miss the 80s so much, the me the 80s is better than the 90s. Back in those days everything was real, including the Ninja toys I had back than, the Ninjas where really Asian of Oriental action figures, not like today when they make all of the Ninja characters look White, or have the Asian character's faces covered up.
My song right here,I had just found out I was pregnant with my oldest when this song came out,my baby daddy was playin with my digital display Way 2 Much, lol😂😂😂😂
The large map of area, and much of this video you are watching was shot at the SLAC site, Stanford Linear Accelerator Center, in Menlo Park, Ca. I worked there in the early 80's and would know the map and many areas shown anywhere.
0:32 It is indeed SLAC which is still in operation today. The scenes in the video where they are driving the golf cart are inside the "Klystron Gallery" which is the above ground portion of the Linear Accelerator. The control room scenes are one of the now defunct control centers for the Linear Accelerator complex.
i remember listening to this back in 85=86 driving my classic mint condition 67 Lincoln sedan with my girlfriend thinking about our life and thinking about that wonderful powerful 462 engine under the hood pumping away that 365 h.p. riding down us-1 in vero beach fla living a simpler life at 23
