James reacting to Blubberella is the best thing that's ever happened on this podcast. Also, at the end when James says Ackbar should have done the Holdo maneuver, do you *really* think Disney would want him suicide bombing his ship into another? Just imagine the "allahu akbar" comments!
It's the definition of infectious laughter. I couldn't hold it together through this whole bit. Maso's really dismissive 'it's also set in the 1940s' really got me.
Ethan Eckoff Well I saw Rampage on Netflix once. And its basically a movie that glorifies going on a mass killing spree. As the MC is basically painted as a hero all because watching the news annoys him or some shit like that. Fucker even survives in the end. So the message of the movie is pretty much. If your angry over dumb shit kill an entire town in a shooting spree and you'll be able to get away with it.
Honestly, the 90's X-Men show is 100% the source of any like for Gambit I have. I loved the art-style, the accent, his relationship with Rogue, etc. If the movie wasn't like that version then it's pretty much lost all my interest anyway, so the delay doesn't bother me.
1:31:23 yeah, you can twitch, it's mentioned when parzival first see's Artemis and says that he's seen her twitch streams. When everyone was confused at the end it was because everyone had died, and he just popped up on their headsets.
So about Wil Wheaton, he’s actually the president of the OASIS users union thingy. Basically, he protects free speech and net neutrality from assholes. So he’s not actually to blame for any of the real world problems.
So, not sure if someone else has already posted this (and if you have I apologize for stepping) but Wil Wheaton, in the novel, is just the vice-president of the OASIS User Council (not the actual president of the USA) who has been re-elected for near a decade because of his stance on protecting user rights inside the OASIS. I can't say what his role in the movie universe is. I heard in another video that Wil Wheaton was on a poster in the movie (I didn't see this poster myself when I saw the movie).
I went up to a group of rather attractive ladies today and was like, “Hay isn’t The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension! like the best movie ever. I’m just saying what everyone else is thinking.” They all got in a line and proceeded to spit in my face individually. Thanks Spielberg. #ReadyPlayerOne “Want to play Goldeneye on my Atari 2600 it’s a hack port?” That one just got me a kick in the bollocks. Thanks Spielberg. You told me nerds were cool, and that hot chick would want to watch Star Trek with me. LIES. IT’S ALL LIES.
I mean... I know it's part of a joke but Widow is a monster because she's a mass murderer. She says that. The kids thing is in addition to, y'know, the mass murdering
In the book of ready player one they explain that if you take off your headset while in battle or trying to escape so you can't die your avatar will sit there for sixty seconds in game before logging out so you would die this way you couldn't cheat.
If you have to read the source material in order to understand a movie or for the movie to make sense, then the movie has failed in storytelling. The movie ought to be a ble to stand on its own, otherwise it need not exist to begin with.
The second book has alot of potential to make for a great movie but it was a chore go get through as it was so dense with references to a time before I was born aha. I believe it's probably nostalgia central for it's target audience.
I could be wrong, but it certainly seems like reading the book enhances the movie for many because the book is so up it's own ass (and badly written), so when compared to the book, the movie comes off as a much more light and breezy entertainment. The movie comes off much better when one has the really pretentious, up it's own assery of the book to contrast it with. For the record, I've read the book (it wasn't bad, but it wasn't good either. Maybe a 4 out of 10?); haven't seen the movie. Don't plan on seeing the movie.
Idk maybe I'm remembering it wrong but when they mention goldeneye, they're not bragging about knowing about goldeneye. She's quizzing him to see how much he knows about halliday and goldeneye is his favorite fps.
Hey just a minor point of clarification in defense of this fictional version of Will Wheaton (very important stuff indeed)- He's only president of the user-based government of the Oasis, not the US. He basically just campaigns on keeping everything neutral and not fucking things up too badly so he keeps getting reelected. I'm sure if he were actually the president he would fix all the things. Probably.
I felt like Ready Player One could have been at least mediocre to me it didn't drag so bad and get absolutely cheesy. And maybe at least tried to do some character development and world building.
So we know what's going on in the world that takes place in the movie which can connect to the character's motivations which can make people actually care about what is happening in the film lol is this not obvious
Someone correct me if I am wrong but I thought there was a slight plothole where Art3mis (yes that's how they named it) and TJ Millers character recognize each other at the dance club and I thought that they were going to revisit that and maybe have some sort of redemption for his character by the end.
Surprised there was no mention of Ready Player One basically being Charlie and the Chocolate Factory for gamers- with excessive references to stuff kids in the 2040s will have little knowledge of. Was that explained in the book?? Or did they forcibly gain all that trivia knowledge to unlock the easter eggs?
majinmoke the Oasis killed the movie and game industry, all progress went to an utter standstill after the Oasis came out it was basically utter perfection so the stuff we have now relating to that is some of the last newer stuff that came out.
Honestly the thing that bothered me was the heavy focus on the 80s. Yeah that was a good time for pop culture but where is all the pop culture and references from their day? Is all their music, games, and pop culture so bad that no one mentions any of it? I mean c'mon.
You do really need to watch the last 3 seasons of shield its by far my favourite show - better than the netflix ones bar season 1 daredevil and the punnishe
I thoroughly love your podcast. But it makes me sad to hear you talk so badly about RP1. I think there's kind of a disconnect if you haven't read the book. I know neither of you will take the time to read the book, but if you did I think it would clear up a lot of your misconceptions / misunderstandings/gripes about the film. I left this film feeling a childlike magic that I used to get from films. So it just makes me sad to hear it picked apart so roughly. I do appreciate all that you guys do and I respect your opinions on it. I just really wish you would take the time to read the book. Thanks for all that you do. Cheers.
the question about getting knifed or what have you, certain worlds have no battle zones and its where new people stay to farm gold or level up and as far as the club, it was supposed to be owned and protected by ogden morrow. a lot of this is explained in the book and a lot of it is left out including several deaths that actually added weight to the story. should have killed off the person they kill off in the book. no spoilers...
Mr. Sunday Movies, your *READY PLAYER ONE* easter eggs was so good, I had no interest in it.... but after watching your video, I watched it the same night (yesterday) :-)
Captain America MUST be a Skrull. That explains why he went from: 'The military has always been my home' in Ultron to: 'I've never been at home, even in the military' in Civil War.
