This will be one amazing property to renovate,if it is possible would be able to do a tour when it's restored,if its possible Thank you for your videos and looking forward to your next video
Thank you, Nick for this most INCREDIBLE tour❣️❣️❣️. We visited Puglia in May 2019 and I fell completely in love with the stones of Puglia. Their color is so unique. Although we saw plenty of restored trulli, this is my first “tour” of the originals. My husband and I have watched your channel just for entertainment for a couple of years, but now that we are in the process of building a new home, I’m going back and watching your videos very carefully as a study project because I’m hoping to create a rustic Italian atmosphere in our new home. I’m noting in detail all the elements I see that I’d like to copy. You are a genius!!!
Oh I wish I had been able to see this when I was in Puglia about 8 or so years ago...had no idea these places still existed in their original build state. Such ingenius little structures, and this is a real find...the price is considering the history & uniqueness of the property, and somebody for whom money is no object will find it ! Beautiful !
These are such amazing structures, Nick! Thanks for your usual awesome job taking us along on your fun rummage! And of course for taking time on your vacation to share it with us. Enjoyed the information on being able to pull them down in a hurry when the taxman cometh…. As an engineer I agree with you that perhaps the small entrance section came down. That would make sense as a ploy to avoid paying taxes, but without completely destroying the structure. I’ve seen some places to rent to stay in Trullis, but had never seen a ruin of some - WAAAAY cool! Thx! Oh, and we wish that your own property search is fun and successful!
Absolutely wonderful and thank you for taking the time out of your hols to share it with us. Trulli are gorgeous little structures. They remind me of the domed dammusi on Pantelleria which also have... or at least used to have... an ingenuous system carved into the domed roofs to harvest rain water.
Oh, how marvelous! Thanks for taking time out of your holiday to show us this property. Now I have to go look for a fully restored trullo, so I can see possibilities, because my brain can't even imagine living in one of them. The stonework is awesome, especially in the last one, where the structure is so visible and the thought behind construction is more obvious. Beautiful!
I love stone so much that every time I see one along the road, I make my husband stop and get it to add to our wall by our pool! We visited Oria, a small village near Stressa and I wanted to live the rest of my days there! P.S. cactus!
Thank you for sharing this with me Nick. I never would have seen something like this in my life. You don't realize the history, the little bits that get over looked by books and other ways, that you give to your viewers. The building techniques, the unbelievable masonry, the little pass through on the one building where the priests gave food and money to the poor. You should sell a video of the little bits and pieces that otherwise go unnoticed. Thank you, thank you. Enjoy your vacation and bless you.
I adore Italy been going on holiday there for last 20yrs, but there’s so much to see & this beautiful town is on my bucket list when it’s safe to fly over from the UK. Before Covid we were actually started plans to move out there, but my dreams were crushed… Hopefully one day!
So interesting. I have to say your tours have been educational as well. I'm loving that. That's the part of your tours you don't find on others. You go into detail and point things out I wouldn't have thought to look at or consider. Especially the ruins. Those buildings would be a huge project! I would love to see them in the future if someone takes on that challenge of restoring them. Enjoy your holiday ; )
wooww, stunning place !!! This is an special project for an archeologist. Amaizing. Lovely property , plenty of posibilitys and ideas. By the way I think this look like the skull of a dog, not a cat. Anyway, another surprise by Nick. Thank you for show it Nick. Bravo. Excelent job. Nice week end and hollidays for you
Wonderful video ♥️ Ostuni il “paese bianco” i trulli are a fairytale and the town of Alberello is enchanting. My grandparents had a trulli summer house nella campagna di Monopoli which is located a bit north east of Ostuni.
Wonderful property of course and done up will make a fantastic holiday home in one of the many beautiful parts of Italy, very close to the splendid sea, opened up with good airports in Brindisi and Bari close to gorgeous towns on the sea like Polignano.I looked at Trulli about 20 years ago when there were more of the specialised Trullari but the kids education sent me to Rome instead. I wonder though if the restoration cost _could_ be lower; the 500k sounds like knock down & rebuild to the very highest standards. There is something of a mysticism around "i trullari" but I'm sure my general builder here in Lazio could manage it, the key skills being not too distant from dry-stone walling, the difficult part being choice and handling of large quantities of masonry in challenging temperatures. The good thing is that the material is all there for free and the template for construction is there in the existing buildings.
Hi ya Nick, Thank you for doing a one take on your holiday. This was fantastic, the architecture and history of these dwellings alone is enough to keep us glued to your vlog. It looked like a movie set. Im anxious these buildings need to be preserved and maintained. What a story they would tell. 😍 Prickly pears are delicious if I remember correctly. I Ate them when I was a kid. I hope you can identify your skull. I dont think its a cat. Enjoy the rest of your holiday. ❤🇦🇺
There are many rural trulli on sale in central Puglia, especially Martina Franca area. Many of them are under 100.000 euro, definitely a great opportunity to renovate a unique property😊
Omg! It is nice but there is no way it is worth that much money! Italy is crazy. How can a big land like that be allowed only 100m2 of additional construction. Italy would be ten times richer if these stupid restrictions were lifted.
Just as we were wondering how long your holiday would be and where you both travelled to for your holiday, a notification appears. Yeh, he's at it even during their holiday! Interesting architecturally as well as historically. Came across someone else's holiday coverage where they rented one during their holiday. Viewed the location on the map, however, it's the lack of water that concerns me. We viewed Ostuni Domus Immobiliare website, also interesting, thank you. Enjoy your family holiday and if you wouldn't mind doing a few laps and catch a fish on us. Cheers
Very amazing structures. So interesting the age, and they have not been vandalized ! I would think the Italian Government would want to preserve them. .? Possibly not new or scarce to them …..Right ! Thank you again Nick. 🇺🇸
This is an old dream of mine, to buy and restore trulli. I had NO idea they were running scarce and are valued these days! I've seen some modernized trulli and they really are something. I bet to the eldest generation these houses represent poverty and primitive lives of of the past. These houses are actually very efficient and studied by architect students and engineers interested in new ways of building sustainably with minimal carbon footprint and use of energy to stay in. Puglia i perfect climate for earthbuilds etc too! But a whopping price for only this property sans water, electric etc.
I had to laugh when you said you were taking the skull home. I have the skull of a wild pig called a javelina from Arizona in my living room as we speak. I get a lot of "side-eye" when guests first see it !
We love Puglia and have had our fingers on the property pulse since 2007. Did you buy? Would love to hear. Ostuni was a peak life experience for us. If it weren’t for Covid we would be there now 🥰
I guess the price reflects the rarity of the buildings. The landscaping would cost too. Pity I have long pockets with not enough in them. I guess someone enterprising could organise a consortium to buy a few over time and then restore them all. Plumbing would need to be considered also costing $$$. It would be great to see the little village come to life in the holidays.
We've been looking at property in Puglia for a few months now, and some of the prices quoted are quite ridiculous. For this money you could buy a nice palazzo in need of some work, but nothing like €500k. Trulli bonkers if you ask me
Hi James, Thanks for your comment. I'm looking as well and I agree with you. I chose this Trulli complex because I love architecture and historical buildings. We are not the instructed real estate agency. Good luck with your search. Best wishes, Nick. PS: If you want to send me an overview via email (info@abodeitaly.com) I could ask a couple of agents for you.
Hey Nick--these homes look very similar to beehive homes and sheilings that are present in Scotland, especially the highlands and Outer Hebrides. They were used during summer months for tending livestock on the moors. As much as I love your videos, I think I will respectfully pass on this one. If they are renovated, won't the renovation process fundamentally alter the structure or ambience of the home and make it into something it isn't or wasn't intended to be? There are no windows in these homes; how did folks get light into them? You can't have the front door open all winter; too damn cold. What about weatherproofing? That one house had way too much space between the rocks to keep rain out (or vermin for that matter...). Now all that said, the views and grounds are beautiful. It would be almost worth the price to get the land and deconstruct the trulli, unless they are listed buildings and have convenants on them that they cannot be removed. Enjoy your holiday!
Thank you for taking the time to comment. I’m fascinated with architecture and history so I really wanted to video an unrestored Trulli. I absolutely agree with you, they're not for everyone, however, I have seen some exquisitely restored Trulli incorporating windows and 21st century amenities. I just adore the ingenuity of the construction. Best wishes, Nick.
Never seen anything like this before ...very interesting ! The scull is not a cat , it's to long and the front teeth look canine as far as I can see . Or a fox meaby ..
Ok, after reading the current comments this will go against the grain. When you said what the asking price was , i had to replay the video, as I could not believe the price. With all the truly amazing property available in every region of Italy, I refuse to believe that there is a market for one room houses without utilities, that need extensive renovations. I wish them luck if raising the price elicits bids from individuals with vast sums of disposable income i will be trulli astonished.
I suppose the asking price involves also a lot of land but I agree with you. For as much fascinating these structures are, it's crazy high considering you have to renovate AND probably there's no water/gas/electricity reaching there... For that money you can buy a luxury trullo already renovated.
Hi, Thanks for your comment. This is not my listing and to be honest I chose this Trulli complex for it's history and not the asking price from the vendor. Some vendors' just think up a number and wait for someone to come alone and make an offer. Best wishes, Nick.
@@italianproperty Nick , I know this is not your listing, and be assured 90% of your devoted viewership is solely based on your idiosyncratic unvarnished presentation. As to the listing price ,agents do their clients a disservice by picking a price “out of the thin blue air” sure some people win the lottery but most would be better served with truthful assessment based market analysis. On a funny note We had never heard of Umbertide until your videos, during our recent trip we passed by it numerous times.
Too bad they waited so long to sell them. If I could afford 1.5 - 2+ million, I would live in Positano....thanks anyways. Thanks for your great videos.
Why doesnt the Italian government make these houses safe, clean up surrounding area and make this a part of the education system where school children can visit and learn more about how their ancestors used to live. Just my thoughts.
Nick really, you even laughed when you mentioned the price ? Are you kidding me , All of you commenting ,,did you hear the price ? Close to $1m dollars …what’s everyone smoking? I’d like some .. Nick seriously man, have some self respect and stop the “ how marvelous “ it is and most of the stuff you post ..I guess you’re paid handsomely to market such horrible mess …price ought to be $1 …or give it away ..
Hi James, Thanks for your comment. Not my listing, just reporting on history. I really wanted to video a trulli. I just love the construction. Yes, I agree, I think the asking price is optimistic, however, I have seen some amazing restorations of these historical buildings. Have a great day, Nick.
