I listened to his statement this morning, I couldn't handle it. I am an older mom and can't imagine losing my child to a murderer, especially a spoiled brat like this family

Judge gave no comments, no nonsense, “ok go serve your sentence, I’m moving on with my day”. I like it!

Wendi may not be in jail but she is hated and struggles in public. She also worries about being arrested every single day!

Charlie looks beat and beaten, and he has aged. I feel pity for him and his family because they had it made in the shade and actually thought they could get away with murder! They blew it! Wendy and Harvey are next. Donna's shaking in her boots and not coping that well in jail! This is what happens when you act above the law. I feel bad for Robert and the children, and my heart and prayers go out to the Markel family! This judge is definitely no nonsense. He wasn't going to waste his breath on this man, but his tone was commanding and to the point. This judge is not a cookie-cutter judge! I like him!

I don’t understand how people can behave this way-it is so sad for the kids and the victims family. Heartbreaking.

To me Charlie seems to have already aged 10 years and still claiming innocence is aggravating. Thank u once again Peter for your coverage and insight.

After the heartfelt statement and expressing how difficult it is to miss their grandsons, all this guy can say is he maintains his innocence. Then why keep grandparents and grandchildren apart. That shows no heart and that you have something to hide. This family is so sick. I cannot comprehend any of this. I hope and pray the grandparents can reestablish their relationship with their grandsons very soon.

This case is so sad. Loss of life. Loss of a father. Loss of a son. Then these people that did this…so many chose to ruin their lives. It’s crazy!

A life sentence PLUS 60 years, that certainly sends a heavy message.

From someone who hasn't seen or spoken to my grandchildren in over 3 years I can say the pain is almost unbearable.

Did I hear it right that the Adelsons changed the boys names and refused to allow the Markel family any access to the children? So they murdered Markel and basically stole the kids?!

The more you look at this case the more tragic it becomes. The despicable activist Adelson family is just horrendous and very wicked. This poor Markel family grieving their son and they barely get to see their grandchildren what an hour and a half two hours over maybe 3 hours over 2 years?

I used to have a neighbor who worked as a state prison guard. One day he was telling me about his job. He said all the prisoners will tell you that they're innocent. It doesn't matter what crime they committed, they all say they're innocent and wrongly imprisoned. Sounds like Charlie is no different and will have that in common with his soon to be prison mates.

The Adeleson family woefully underestimated just how very much Danny's murder, and the subsequent battle royale his devoted family would endure in their desperate determination to see justice served for their unfathomable loss, but even more importantly, they couldn't have possibly imagined just how his senseless death would sear the collective consciousness of the nation who also demanded justice for him, and just as loudly. Quite possibly for the first time in their priveleged lives, they came up against a force of love by the victims family that not even they, much less their vast wealth, could conceivably conquer, and as such, this became a battle far beyond that of merely seeking justice & balancing the scales of good and evil, and undoubtedly became a battle of wills, over inflated ego's, the staunch, all be it deluded belief, that not all (the Adeleson crime family) are held accountable for their actions , nor to the same standards that the vast majority of us are held to, and as has always happened prior to this, that their immense wealth could somehow, someway, buy them all out of all the serious trouble they had created for themselves, although for what appears to be the very first time in their lives, on this occasion at least, they couldn't have been more wrong. NOTHING, and I mean absolutely nothing, short of bringing Danny back to life, could even remotely heal the hearts of all affected by this terrible event, but seeing all responsible punished can certainly help to ease their pain 💔💔

The Markel’s pain must be unbearable. Wendi still gets to raise the boys. Even in prison, Donna and Charlie will still get to see pictures of the boys growing up. The Markels even got their family name stripped from them.

Do the Markels have a civil case at all against Wendi ? I feel like the only way they will get the children back in their lives is if she is found liable for Dan's death even if it doesn't reach the criminal level of proof. There is enough evidence that she was involved in his wrongful death. It's disgusting that it has been proven her brother hired hit men to get the children and they essentially win if Wendi doesn't face charges. No way they can have a functional relationship knowing Wendi ordered the murder of their only son

Ahh, that jail house suit is fitting. That family should not have custody of those kids. I really hate how kids many times are given to the family who took the other parent out. I think their only hope maybe when Wendi has her day (hopefully) in court.

Charlie, had allegedly asked Katie on Halloween night 2013 - if she knew someone who could harm someone… One year later, just prior to the murder, an intimate photo of Wendi and Katie at the beach had been taken. I would presume that Wendi had to meet Katie, and push her message of what a monster her ex-husband had been-in order for the murder plan to move forward. Why else would Wendi meet Katie, and forge a close friendship with one who would be part of the murder plot… Charlie, was just being himself with tuff-guy, grandiose talk-and with no follow thru… I will presume that Wendi and Katie had been covertly, communicating with each other-right up to the actual murder. And that Katie had been lying again-when she had indicated Charlie as the mastermind, and not Wendi. Moreover, the prosecutors knew this.. It was Wendi and Katie, who had motive, an orchestrated the murder, not Charlie… When Wendi told LaCasse about Charlie hiring a hitman, she had been then setting the stage for Charlie to take the blame-and for LaCasse to be the red herring… In a not so smart of a way-Charlie had been there for his family. And it’s a travesty of justice that Wendi had not been charged first, for 1st degree murder, and then charging Charlie for a lesser role…

Whereas Dan Markel was a dedicated good father and an honourable many of integrity who was respected by so many.. The same cannot be said of Charlie Adelson.

I think if Charlie showed even an ounce of compassion for Dan's death (without admitting guilt), I think the judge may have given concurrent years on counts 2 and 3. He was disgusted with Charlie.

If Charlie had one chance to display his humanity, this was it. It doesn't seem as if a single Adelson - with apologies to Rob - is capable of empathy at any level - even for the sons of his victim. May angels of comfort be with everyone Dan loved. They've seen a measure of justice, but nothing brings their son, father, brother and friend back to them. Rest in peace, Dan.

I know some people think Wendi won’t be charged, but I see the state (Georgia K) has been prosecuting in the exact order of their train theory… garcia & Rivera to Katie, to Charlie, to Donna who is now being prosecuted, then after Donna it will be Wendi . Georgia has this all laid out, as she gets one conviction the next case & link in the chain/train gets stronger and stronger! And after seeing Donna’s clear lack of control even just sitting court she’s NOT going to come off well to a jury and is only going to make the case against Wendi stronger! No doubt Wendi is next.

Peter, the Judge never said if the sentences were consecutive or concurrent.

I just don’t know if the children could accept the Markels. In their young minds, they may think the Markels destroyed their lives as they know it by accusing the ones they know and love and “taking” them from them. It may be years before the children can understand what happened here. So so sad. Xo

Charlie looks sad. Maybe he feels at least an ounce of regret for his family’s role in all of this. He may also be coming to terms with the fact that his own son will be raised without him.

I would love if you found out if it's typical for this judge NOT to make a statement and then update us in the future! I'm curious if this is typical or if he's biting his tongue specifically in this case for the reasons you hypothesized.

Q: in the custody matter for the grandkids, does this conviction (and maybe Donna's coming) increase odds the Markel family will gain access? If the adelson's have been found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt criminally, it would seem that the family court would be unlikely to have a higher standard and that should work in their favor
