This entire case is extremely frightening to a common person! From the policeman to the prosecutor, both those agencies are overreaching, and it happens all the time. A misunderstanding like this in my life would be a disaster! Average people don't have the money to just hire a lawyer, add additional flights and miss work.....

The Sheriffs Department in my home county filed charges against my son in 2017 for 3 felony counts of AWADWGO. It took 2 trials, 5 years and my entire retirement to finally get not guilty verdicts on all charges and the jurors deliberated for less than 15 minutes in the 2nd trial. Between the sheriffs department and DA’s office, they destroyed dash cam evidence, the CAD report, withheld discovery until the day before the trial and lied to the defense attorney and the media. The judicial system in this country is nothing but tyranny.

A family member is a golf journalist. Players were told to come on in the gate. Police were told players were in PGA marked cars and to let them through. Scottie was doing what he was told to do. This is absurd to charge this man with a felony.

the Prosecutor is as corrupt as the Police... the "Officer" committed false arrest, false imprisonment, aggravated assault, aggravated battery, mis-malfeasance, falsifying charges, falsifying government documents, deprivation of rights; the "Officer" is also the sole cause if 95% of his injuries (latching onto a moving automobile when he could have (being an accident scene recreation expert) instead pounded on the hood or trunk to get the driver's attention)... the Prosecutor is also REQUIRED to disclose exculpatory evidence, AND prosecute the "Officer" if there is evidence of the "Officers" wrong doing... If there is any true Justice the "Officer" should not be being treated as thought everything he did was lawful, and everything Scottie did was unlawful...🤔

Yes, that's how I see it also. I felt the prosecutor was grandstanding to draw attention from of a high profile individual to public attention. Basically exploiting Scotty's profile as the World's number 1 golfer to bring attention to them.

The DA even admitted his office was still gathering evidence in this case and were not ready to proceed at this time. So why argue about a continuance set for 2 weeks from now? Defence was not asking to drop the charges, change the venue or to allow Scottie to appear by video, he (the defence attorney) simply wanted the court date to be changed to accomodate his schedule since he was not asked at the bail hearing if today's date was suitable and workable for him to represent Scottie.

The Louisville Metro Police already look like a bunch of "Horse's Rear Ends" for making an arrest in this situation to begin with. It should have been handled by cooler heads at the scene. The bad thing is if this weren't a world famous athlete but just a "Regular Joe" driving down Shelbyville Rd. at the wrong time. That person would have a huge headache on their hands all because one Louisville Metro cop got his panties in a wad when he thought someone challenged his authority!

The DA and his elves wanted their 15 minutes knowing full well that’s all they will get (as far as appearing before the judge). Refusing to argue the actual issue at hand, moving it to June 3 made him appear an idiot and a disgrace to the legal profession. He’ll be getting plenty more time in the spotlight which will help explain why Louisville has been deemed uninsurable by actuaries so no company will carry the city any longer. They have paid out many millions in settlements and jury awards due to police and judicial misconduct. Now settlements are paid directly by the taxpayers. I certainly hope the PGA considers this the last tournament they will hold in Kentucky.

Interesting: the mayor and police chief just held a brief press conference where at one point the mayor stated that he knew Scottie Scheffler wanted to 'move forward' (his words) as did the City of Louisville. I'm pretty sure he didn't mean 'move forward with a felony conviction'. Also, the officer was cited for failure to activate his body cam. The body cam finding is important as it gives cover for dropping the charges.

The prosecutor is living in an alternate universe. Continuances are granted everyday in order to accommodate counsels' schedules. Scheffler's lawyer missed an opportunity to request a remote appearance for the arraignment, since prosecutor opened the door by citing law regarding "when appropriate" as it pertains to remote appearances. That the motion is only for a continuance, makes the prosecutor look like a jackass.

The judge Im sure wouldnt have a problem if Scottie zoomed in. If you caught his 2nd round, he was still in a daze he probably didnt know how to contact a lawyer and learn about the process. The county prosecutor displayed his true colors for everyone to see. He failed to apply the law properly, wasted everyone's time by his poor (intentional?) understanding, potentially compounding the error in an already bad situation. Fortunately the judge was fair and knowledgeable, she knew her role and made the proper decision. It appears to me that the entire Louisville law enforcement staff needs remedial training in how to execute their jobs. The arresting officer needlessly escalated the situation, effectively treating Mr. Scheffler as if he was a willful perpetrator, attempting to evade the law, instead of a PGA golfer complying with the directions he had previously been given. Additionally, based on what I have read from other patrons' accounts, it appears the manner in which pedestrians were directed to cross the road was poorly designed and marked, thus the tragic accident that occurred earlier that morning was not surprising. Poor communication, poor weather, and poor judgment by the police officer made a player's routine entrance into the golf club a disaster. Let's hope that the LMPD has the wisdom to not pursue this as a criminal action. In no manner could such treatment ever be considered justice.

Another example of tax dollars hard at work chasing down "real" criminals. The prosecutor is spending Kentucky's tax dollars on nailing Scottie for "assaulting" a peace officer and locking him up for 5-ish years. Such a conviction would end his career and end his status in the highest-paying tax bracket. Meanwhile, Texas will lose his tax income, which effectively weakens their social services. Why not just arrange a deal that slaps him with some misdemeanor tickets and move on? Buy the officer a new outfit and tell him not to hold onto moving cars next time. Some commenters are equating Scottie's *alleged* arrogance and entitlement with criminalization & intent. Arrogant/entitled or not, he is not a felon. I work with felons *every day*. This entire performance by the prosecution is abhorrent. As a tax payer, it's really upsetting. I worked 3 hours of unpaid OT today trying to get police & CPS to take seriously a tragic family case that's dragged on for 2+ years. I'm informed by both agencies they don't have the capacity to respond effectively, and they both tell me to call the other agency as a solution (ummm, ok & I did that??). Then I come home and watch this court circus because a person drove an extra 30 feet in a confusing traffic situation, and he stopped when he realized his mistake. His taxes alone probably pay my entire organization's salary 10x over. But the prosecutor wants me to pay my tax dollars to turn him into a convicted felon. Meanwhile, I am out begging an over-burdened criminal justice system to intervene in a family case where 2 children are severely neglected by a mom who has 30+ police calls & multiple arrests, and who meets the definition of felon on every level. And that's just an average day. This prosecutor has seriously lost his way.

Schefler is getting "heightened equality." You're right. Most courts don't even hold a hearing on this. As a current attorney and former cop of 20 years, I have frequently just gone to the clerk and reset the date with the prosecutor ambivalent. Prompt arraignment is the defendant's right, not the state's. The prosecutor wanted his 15 minutes of fame. Well, congratulations. In less than 15 minutes he demonstrated that he is misinformed, incompetent, and inarticulate. This prosecutor, if he had any sense, should have showed up and said that an initial review of the case reveals this was more a miscommunication or misunderstanding than a crime and announced that all charges were being dismissed. This would have saved the city and the state all of this negative publicity. Maybe instead of repeating "when appropriate" ad nauseum he should practice the phrase "the interests of justice will be serverd by dismissal." Detective Bryon should resign from the department for the embarrassment he has caused his colleagues.

The prosecution was so determined to NOT change the date. He was really showing his ignorance IMO. So glad the judge changed the date like it would happen for anyone else. Was he overcharged …IMO 100% YES !!!! It’s Cary they charged him with all those charges. I pray it gets thrown out. They talk about treating everyone equally…this proves to me they ARE NOT treating him equally 🙏🏻. Thanks Peter ❤😊

This should scare the daylights out of ordinary people.. the video shown of what happened with the officer and this prosecutor is just insane…Even the judge was like WTF with the prosecutor… I think the commonwealth is trying to save face because they know they were in the wrong and overcharged him..

If he is never arraigned, and the charges are dropped doesn’t that mean he will not even have an arrest record?? So often charges are dismissed, typically due to lack of evidence or the police overstepping or maybe a DA over charging ect…. But by then you end up having an arrest record & in the real world companies that run background checks whether or not people will admit it, people will judge you and often assume you committed a crime if you have been arrested even if it ends up being dismissed

You can erase an arrest, criminal charge, and conviction from public record by filing for and being granted an expungement. Every state is different. So I don't know how it will play out there.

This is silly! As a non-JD, married to a JD, this feels like a prosecutor flexing to protect an overreach by the police officer. I understand there was a pedestrian fatality earlier that morning, which would make the local officers more on edge, potentially but it still seems like the misunderstanding Scottie portrayed it to be!

I don't follow golf closely, but this case really pisses me off. The idea there was any criminal intent is ridiculous. Free Scottie. ✌

At 19:31 the prosecutor says "we have not had the opportunity obviously yet to review a lot of evidence that's out there". He's insisting that they do the arraignment and then they'll look at the evidence and decide whether they have a case. That's absurd. How does a prosecutor come out in open court and say that they want to charge someone with a felony before they look at the evidence and decide whether the evidence supports those charges?

Take a look at the record of the office that wrongfully arrested the golfer. It's real bad. Lots of bad. So bad.

The owner of Valhalla the golf club is a big shot there also the pga is a big entity they will influence this case going forward. This will get squashed no way they r going to try him. PGA might pull future tournaments out of there they have juice and a lot goes to charities.

I wonder if the police officer threw himself on Scheffler's car hoping to sprain an ankle and sue him.

All political grandstanding. The prosecutor can say "the judge allowed it" and can shift any blowback. Stupid, but required in our ridiculous media environment.

the new video that just came out, shows that the officer lied on the official police report and fits what Scheffler said.

Look I’m a lawyer, with much less experience I suspect, than that prosecutor. I can immediately say that his argument was TERRIBLE. The judge picked up on the distinction between what he was claiming was the stare decisis, and what the true position was, IMMEDIATELY. Yet, he continued flogging his dead horse of an argument for another quarter of an hour. I understand his wish to play the only card he had for what it’s worth, but this was just a terrible performance. The judge should have shut it down much, much sooner, but perhaps she didn’t want to be painted with the brush of supporting a famous rich guy.
